El estudio se centra en el CEIP Tierno Galván de Molina de Segura, Murcia. El centro tiene una trayectoria de implantación del Programa Bilingüe que ha culminado con la adhesión al Programa British Council. El propósito es demostrar que los alumnos que desarrollan los estudios en un segundo idioma, que no es el materno, no ven afectado su rendimiento académico, sino todo lo contrario, aprenden mejor y mejoran sus resultados. El método utilizado fue la observación de la trayectoria del centro en la implantación del bilingüe, las pruebas externas regionales aplicadas a los alumnos de sexto y el conteo de centros que participaban en el Programa Bilingüe Avanzado. Se ha descubierto que los alumnos que vienen desarrollando el Programa Bilingüe Avanzado obtienen mejores resultados en las pruebas externas aplicadas a nivel regional y que miden las competencias básicas que desarrollan esas áreas analizadas. Destaca el área de Ciencias Naturales, en la que los alumnos realizan la prueba en español, aunque la aprenden en Inglés, demostrando que los contenidos objeto del área, han sido adquiridos. Las conclusiones muestran en lo que muchos autores coinciden: las personas que aprenden un idioma mejoran las funciones ejecutivas y como consecuencia mejoran los resultados académicos This research is focused on CEIP Tierno Galván in Molina de Segura, Murcia. The school has an extensive background in the implementation of the Bilingual Program which has given as a result the approval to join the British Council Program. The main aim is to prove that students who course studies in a second language, which is different to the mother tongue, do not experience any alterations in their academic performance, but quite the contrary, they learn better and improve their results. The method used is the observation of the school´s performance in the implementation of the bilingual program, based on the regional external tests carried out with 6th Grade students and the count of other schools participating in the Advanced Bilingual Program. It has been deduced that students who have participated in the Advanced Bilingual Program obtain better results in the external tests applied at regional scale, by measuring the basic competences that develop these analysed areas. The area of Natural Sciences stands out, in which the students take the test in Spanish language even though they studied that in English language, proving that the core contents of the area have been acquired. The conclusions show what many authors agree on: students who learn a second language improve their executive functions and consequently enhance their academic performance.
