Nowadays universities are rethinking their teaching methodologies not only in order to adapt to the use of new technologies, such as the ICT (information and communication technologies) or the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) but also in order to advance the international students towards a multidisciplinary approach. Thus, this article is the result of a multidisciplinary approach gathering scholars from Portugal and Romania, presenting a set of several teaching methodologies used on the domains of civil engineering. It is based on the experience of the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Portugal and the Faculty of Constructions, Cadastre and Architecture of the University of Oradea (UO) in Romania. Among other descriptions, the conclusions show that there are several different and common aspects in between the Portuguese and the Romanian experiences. Regarding the common aspects there is the need of finding new teaching methodologies in order to consider the different backgrounds of the international students coming from several countries and continents, having diverse high educational systems. Thus, the international students are encouraged to work together and to actively participate in the development, presentation and discussion of their scientific findings.

The Fock quantization of free fields propagating in cosmological backgrounds is in general not unambiguously defined due to the non-stationarity of the spacetime. For the case of a scalar field in cosmological scenarios it is known that the criterion of unitary implementation of the dynamics serves to remove the ambiguity in the choice of Fock representation (up to unitary equivalence). Here, applying the same type of arguments and methods previously used for the scalar field case, we discuss the issue of the uniqueness of the Fock quantization of the Dirac field in the closed FRW spacetime proposed by D'Eath and Halliwell., 11 pages

This article aims to present an interdisciplinary approach about the research methodologies used at the civil engineering research field, in the domains of urban planning and mathematics. Actually, there are some similarities in between the research process features of urban planning and mathematics. In fact, these both scientific subjects follow analogous tasks in their research process, which have the same starting point with the definition of the research problem and the final phase, based on the proposed solution. It joins scholars from the department of civil engineering and architecture, experts in spatial analysis and scholars form the department of mathematics of the University of Beira Interior. Two case studies will be presented as examples of the application of these methodological approaches, both of them focused on the urban planning researches, associated with postgraduate teachings, one is related to a PhD thesis and the other one relates to a master degree dissertation.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a complication of diabetes, condition responsible for causing endothelial dysfunction (EDys) and hampering repair mechanisms. However, scarce information is available linking vasculogenesis mediated by Endothelial Progenitor Cells (EPCs) and diabetes-associated ED. Furthermore, it remains to be elucidated if glycemic control plays a role on EPCs functions, EPCs modulators, and penile vascular health. We evaluated the effects of diabetes and insulin therapy on bone marrow (BM) and circulating EPCs, testosterone, and systemic/penile Stromal Derived Factor-1 alpha (SDF-1) expression. Male Wistar rats were divided into groups: age-matched controls, 8-weeks streptozotocin-induced type 1 diabetics, and insulin-treated 8-weeks diabetics. EPCs were identified by flow cytometry for CD34/CD133/VEGFR2/CXCR4 antigens. Systemic SDF-1 and testosterone levels were evaluated by ELISA. Penile SDF-1 protein expression was assessed, in experimental and human diabetic cavernosal samples, by immunohistochemical techniques. Diabetic animals presented a reduction of BM-derived EPCs and an increase in putative circulating endothelial cells (CECs) sloughed from vessels wall. These alterations were rescued by insulin therapy. In addition, glycemic control promoted an increase in systemic testosterone and SDF-1 levels, which were significantly decreased in animals with diabetes. SDF-1 protein expression was reduced in experimental and human cavernosal diabetic samples, an effect prevented by insulin in treated animals. Insulin administration rescued the effects of diabetes on BM function, CECs levels, testosterone, and plasmatic/penile SDF-1 protein expression. Dissertação de mest., Ciências da Educação, Faculdade de Ciências Humanas e Sociais, Univ. do Algarve, 2009 A presente dissertação enuncia o percurso de uma pesquisa empírica realizada com três educadoras de infância que desenvolvem a sua actividade profissional no contexto educativo, creche. Tenciona este trabalho compreender / interpretar o grau de concordância entre aquilo que as educadoras mencionam sobre as suas concepções de criança, de educação e de intervenção educativa, segundo os princípios teóricos que dizem adoptar, e as práticas educativas desenvolvidas com crianças da primeira infância. Pretende-se assim ter acesso ao grau de consistência existente entre o pensamento e a acção das educadoras, entre os discursos e as práticas. Elege-se como objecto de estudo a repercussão da inter-relação entre os saberes de referência e o saber-fazer do educador de infância, quer nas suas práticas profissionais quotidianas construídas e desenvolvidas no contexto educativo de creche, quer nos discursos produzidos em situação de entrevista relativamente a essas mesmas práticas. A presente investigação, tem as características de um estudo multicasos, inserindo-se num paradigma interpretativo, recorrendo a procedimentos de observação participante e a uma análise qualitativa de inspiração fenomenográfica, conducentes a uma narrativa dos «dizeres e dos fazeres» dos educadores de infância, ou seja, de diversas modalidades dos fenómenos educativos. Esta opção visa uma aproximação à realidade social, que possibilite compreender e interpretar o comportamento humano inserido no seu quadro referencial e interactivo, para que se possa apreender os sentidos expressos e ocultos dos seus comportamentos. Através destas opções metodológicas, visando a compreensão e interpretação do que significa Ser Educador de Infância na Creche constatámos globalmente uma sintonia entre os discursos e as práticas das educadoras participantes.

Doutoramento em Matemática Esta tese dedica-se ao estudo de hipermapas regulares bicontactuais, hipermapas com a propriedade que cada hiperface contacta só com outras duas hiperfaces. Nos anos 70, S. Wilson classificou os mapas bicontactuais e, em 2003, Wilson e Breda d’Azevedo classificaram os hipermapas bicontactuais no caso não-orientável. Quando esta propriedade é transferida para hipermapas origina três tipos de bicontactualidade, atendendo ao modo como as duas hiperfaces aparecem à volta de uma hiperface fixa: edge-twin, vertextwin and alternate (dois deles são o dual um do outro). Um hipermapa topológico é um mergulho celular de um grafo conexo trivalente numa superfície compacta e conexa tal que as células são 3-coloridas. Ou de maneira mais simples, um hipermapa pode ser visto como um mapa bipartido. Um hipermapa orientado regular é um triplo ordenado consistindo num conjunto finito e dois geradores, que são permutações (involuções) do conjunto tal que o grupo gerado por eles, chamado o grupo de monodromia, actua regularmente no conjunto. Nesta tese, damos uma classificação de todos os hipermapas orientados regulares bicontactuais e, para completar, reclassificamos, usando o nosso método algébrico, os hipermapas não-orientáveis bicontactuais. This thesis is devoted to the study of bicontactual regular hypermaps, hypermaps with the property that each hyperface meets only two others. In the seventies, S. Wilson classified the bicontactual maps and, in 2003, Wilson and Breda d’Azevedo classified the bicontactual non-orientable hypermaps. When this property is transferred for hypermaps it gives rise to three types of bicontactuality, according as the two hyperfaces appear around a fixed hyperface: edge-twin, vertex-twin and alternate (two of which are dual of each other). A topological hypermap is a cellular embedding of a connected trivalent graph into a compact and connected surface such that the cells are 3-colored. Or simply, a hypermap can be seen as a bipartite map. A regular oriented-hypermap is an ordered triple, consisting of a finite set and two generators, which are permutations of the set, such that the group generate by them, called monodromy group, acts regularly on the set. In this thesis, we give a classification of all bicontactual regular orientedhypermaps and, for completion, we reclassify, using our algebraic method, the bicontactual non-orientable hypermaps.

O presente Relatório do Projeto de Investigação apresenta um estudo transversal aos contextos de estudo nos quais foram desenvolvidos os estágios em Creche e em Jardim de Infância, no âmbito do Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar, tendo como participantes as Educadoras de Infância Cooperantes e as crianças de cada uma das salas. A temática em estudo é o Brincar [Social] Espontâneo e a metodologia considerada mais adequada ao estudo empírico posiciona-se na abordagem da investigação-ação. O método de recolha de informação baseia-se nas entrevistas às Educadoras, sendo complementado pela observação participante, pelas notas de campo e pela análise documental. A este corpus articulam-se as situações vivenciadas nos contextos e os sentimentos experienciados. Serão interpretados, a partir dos conceitos estudados, da intervenção nos contextos e das situações observadas, alguns aspetos do brincar [social] espontâneo das crianças. O objetivo é dar visibilidade às suas manifestações expressivas, conhecer os seus saberes e os seus modos de viver a infância, nos contextos educativos. Este Projeto de Investigação tem como intencionalidade primordial não só ter acesso às conceções pedagógicas das Educadoras de Infância acerca do brincar, como também conduzir a uma reflexão acerca da relação entre estas conceções e as práticas desenvolvidas e, ainda, implementar melhorias, nas salas dos contextos de estudo, no que se refere à promoção do brincar das crianças. Através deste estudo, é possível inferir que o brincar [social] espontâneo é, de facto, valorizado nas conceções e nas práticas das Educadoras participantes no estudo como recurso inigualável no processo de desenvolvimento/aprendizagem na infância. The current Research Project Report presents a cross-sectional study to educational contexts in which the internships were developed in Nursery and Kindergarten, within the Masters in Pre-School Education, whose the participants are the Cooperating Kindergarten Teachers and the children of each room. The issue in question is the Spontaneous [Social] Play and the methodology considered most appropriate to the empirical study is positioned in the action-research approach. The data collection method is based on interviews with Cooperating Teachers, complemented by participant observation, by field notes and by the document analysis. At this corpus are articulated the situations experienced in the contexts and experienced feelings. It will be interpreted, from the studied concepts, from the intervention in contexts and from the observed situations, some aspects of the spontaneous [social] play. The goal is to give visibility to its expressive manifestations, know their knowledge and their ways of living childhood, in educational contexts. This research project has the primary intention not only have access to pedagogical conceptions of Kindergarten Teachers about the act of play, but also lead to a reflection about the relationship between these conceptions and developed practices and, also, make improvements, as regards the promotion of play of the children. Through this study, we can infer that the spontaneous [social] play is, in fact, valued in conceptions and practices in the participants Educators in the study as unequaled resource in the development/learning process in childhood. O presente projeto de investigação que intitulei “Organização do espaço e dos recursos educativos em contexto de infância: Conceções e práticas das educadoras de infância” remete, como o seu título indica, para a temática da organização do espaço e dos recursos educativos. O objetivo principal que orientou o desenvolvimento do projeto foi compreender e interpretar as conceções e o sentido pedagógico que as educadoras atribuem à organização do espaço e dos materiais, enquanto recursos educativos. A um mesmo tempo, este estudo tem também como intencionalidade, melhorar os espaços existentes nas salas de creche e jardim de infância de forma a criar maiores desafios e experiências nas aprendizagens realizadas pelas crianças. Do ponto de vista metodológico, este projeto de investigação foi pensado no âmbito do paradigma interpretativo, através da metodologia qualitativa em educação, sendo por isso induzido e foi desenvolvido numa abordagem da Investigação-Ação. Foi necessário fazer opções metodológicas de recolha e análise de informação, mas também de intervenção e por sua vez, da sua interpretação. As fontes de recolha de informação consideradas mais adequadas para este estudo foram a observação participante e inquérito por entrevista. A análise da informação foi realizada através da análise de conteúdo e da interpretação. Os contextos de estudo foram as salas das instituições onde decorreram os dois estágios, no âmbito do curso Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e as participantes do estudo foram as educadoras cooperantes que acompanharam o meu estágio. Pretendi que as educadoras cooperantes/participantes estivessem presentes, ou seja, sempre atualizadas, durantes as diferentes fases do estudo. Concluída a elaboração deste projeto de investigação posso inferir que as conceções e práticas das educadoras no que se refere à organização do espaço e dos recursos educativos, estão associadas aos modelos pedagógicos, perfilhados pelas educadoras, bem como às conceções que têm sobre a criança. This investigation project which I have titled “Organization of space and educational resources in childhood context: conceptions and kindergarten teacher practice” refers, as its title indicates, to the thematic of the organization of space and educational resources. The main objective that guided the development of the project was to understand and interpret the conceptions and the pedagogical sense that the kindergarten teachers attribute to the organization of space and materials, as educational resources. At the same time, this study also has the intention to improve existing spaces in the nursery and garden-care rooms in order to create greater challenges and experiences in the learning achieved by the children. From a methodological point of view, this investigation project was thought under the interpretive paradigm, through the qualitative methodology in education and is therefore induced and was developed in a research-action approach. It was necessary to make methodological choices of collection and analysis of information, but also intervention and in turn, their interpretation. The sources of information collection considered most appropriate for this study were participant observation and interview survey. The analysis of the information was done through content analysis and interpretation. The contexts of study were the rooms of the institutions where the two internships took place within the Masters in Preschool Education, and the study participants were cooperating teachers who followed my internship. I intended that the cooperating teachers / participants were present, i.e., always updated, during the different phases of the study. Concluded the elaboration of this investigation project I can infer that the conceptions and practices of the teachers in relation to the organization of space and educational resources are associated with the pedagogical models adopted by the educators as well as with the conceptions that they have on the child. Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar O objetivo deste Relatório do Projeto de Investigação é refletir e, de algum modo, contribuir para aprofundar o conhecimento sobre a construção do currículo com base na valorização do trabalho em equipa. Neste sentido, a sua orientação metodológica insere-se numa abordagem qualitativa/interpretativa dos fenómenos educativos, que perfilha a investigação-ação. Uma vez que o tema é transversal aos dois contextos (creche e jardim-de-infância) o trabalho empírico foi realizado durante os dois momentos de estágio,e pretende compreender e interpretar os processos das relações entre os elementos da equipa e consequentemente visa a reconstrução do currículo em equipa. Para a realização deste trabalho foi necessário proceder à elaboração de um quadro teórico de referência onde apresento perspetivas teóricas de vários autores em torno do tema em estudo, com o intuito de compreender e aprofundar conhecimentos e perceber e para posteriormente interpretar as conceções educativas das educadoras cooperantes. Este estudo permitiu-me refletir e desenvolver competências profissionais no âmbito do trabalho em equipa, nomeadamente sobre a construção do currículo em equipa em prol de um bom desenvolvimento global da criança. The purpose of this Investigation Project Report is to reflect, and somehow, to contribute to deepen the knowledge about the curriculum construction based on the valorization of teamwork. In this sense, is methodological guidance is part of a qualitative / interpretive approach of educational phenomena, which embraces the investigation-action. Once the theme is transverse to both contexts the empirical work was accomplished during the two periods of probation (nursery and kindergarten) and intends to understand and interpret the relationship’s process between team members and consequently the reconstruction of the curriculum as a team. For this work was necessary to draw up a theoretical framework where the theoretical perspectives of various authors around the topic under study are presented, with the intuited to understand and deepen the knowledge, perceive and to posteriorly interpret the educational conceptions of cooperating teachers. This study allowed me to reflect and to develop teamwork professional skills, in particular on the construction of the curriculum as a team towards a good overall development of the child.

Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar O presente projeto de investigação tem como principal intencionalidade compreender e interpretar de que forma as conceções e ideias pedagógicas das educadoras acerca do brincar espontâneo assumem repercussões na construção do seu currículo com crianças da primeira e segunda infância. Este trabalho é baseado na abordagem de investigação-ação e visa dar a conhecer o processo de interpretação das informações recolhidas em dois contextos educativos, o contexto de creche e jardim-de-infância, assim como a intervenção realizada pela estudante no sentido de valorizar e enriquecer o brincar das crianças. As principais fontes de recolha de informação são a observação participante, as entrevistas às educadoras e a análise documental dos projetos pedagógicos de sala. Os contextos de estudo estão enquadrados nas instituições onde foram desenvolvidos os estágios no âmbito do curso Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e as participantes do estudo são as educadoras cooperantes que acompanharam a estudante no processo de aprendizagem. Podemos inferir com este estudo que, efetivamente o brincar espontâneo é valorizado nas práticas da equipa pedagógica, enquanto atividade fundamental para o processo de desenvolvimento/aprendizagem da criança. The present research project has the main purpose of understand and interpret how the concepts and the pedagogic ideas of spontaneous play defended by the kindergarten teachers have repercussions in their curriculum construction with early and second childhood. This task is based on action research approach and pretends to demonstrate the process of interpretation of information collected in two educational contexts, nursery context and kindergarten context, as well as the student’s intervention in an effort to valorize/enrich children play. The main information sources are participant observation, participant’s interviews and pedagogic projects review. The study contexts are framed in the institutions where the stages were developed during the course. The study participants are the kindergarten teachers who guided and supported the student’s learning process. With this investigation, we can infer that in fact, spontaneous play is valued by pedagogical team in their practices, as a central activity to the process of child development/learning.
