Abstract Medium to large rainforest mammals are key conservation flagship groups that offer non‐redundant ecosystem functions, but anthropic pressures, such as illegal hunting, may strongly affect their occupancy in Amazonia. We combined camera traps and occupancy models to assess the influence of distance from human settlements, the number of families per settlement and the synergetic effect of the average weight of 27 species on the occupancy probability of mammals. Specifically, we classified mammal species according to the game preferences of hunters (i.e. a group of species depleted for bushmeat, a group of species hunted for retaliation and a group of non‐hunted species). We also accounted for the influence on the detection probability of each group of both the number of days each camera operated and the body weight of mammals. The occupancy probability of the bushmeat group (i.e. deer, peccaries, agoutis, pacas and armadillos) was lower at locations closer to human settlements. Still, the number of families correlated positively with occupancy, with the occupancy probability of the group being slightly higher at sites with more families. This difference was probably due to larger and more abundant crops and fruiting trees attracting wildlife at such sites. Conversely, the occupancy probability of the retaliation group (i.e. carnivores) and the non‐hunted group (i.e. opossums, spiny rats, squirrels and anteaters) were indifferent to anthropogenic stressors. The detection probability of the non‐hunted and particularly the most depleted species correlated negatively with body weight. This may suggest that larger species, especially those from the bushmeat group, are rarer or less abundant in the system, possibly because they are the preferable target of hunters. In the long term, locals will likely need to travel long distances to find harvest meat. Poaching also threatens food security since game bushmeat is an essential source of protein for isolated rural Amazonians.

Abstract This article presents the Brazilian private insurance market’s actuarial life tables, BR- EMS 2021. Using Bayesian inference on the parameters of the Heligman- Pollard law of mortality and data from 23 insurance groups over 15 years, totaling 3.5 billion registers, the data were corrected through a two hidden-layer neural network. The resulting tables show that the insured population exhibits lower mortality rates than the general Brazilian population, even lower than the national populations of well-developed countries such as the USA. Moreover, besides the expected gender gap in mortality rates, there is a clear distance between the death and survivorship insurance coverage groups. Likewise, the insured population characteristics mitigate well-known regional structural discrepancies in the Brazilian population, indicating that being part of the selected population of insured individuals is thus associated with a more effective protection against death than other outstanding factors such as geographic region of residence.

Introdução: A criança submetida ao transplante de medula óssea (TMO) pode se sentir fora do controle de sua rotina, pois seus vínculos sociais e afetivos foram interrompidos pela internação prolongada. Objetivo: Compreender os sentimentos experimentados pelo familiar acompanhante em relação ao cuidado à criança/adolescente após o TMO no hospital. Método: Estudo descritivo-exploratório, qualitativo, desenvolvido em uma instituição privada da cidade de São Paulo, Brasil, com seis familiares de crianças submetidas ao TMO. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevista semiestruturada após aprovação do estudo pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da instituição (no: 3.955.196). Utilizou-se a análise qualitativa dos dados, segundo o modelo de categorias temáticas de Minayo. Após a transcrição literal das entrevistas, realizou-se leitura abrangente para se obter uma percepção inicial dos relatos. Leituras sucessivas permitiram destacar trechos significativos, agrupados inicialmente a partir das diferenças temáticas no processo de categorização e, posteriormente, agregados por semelhança de conteúdo. A síntese dos discursos deu-se pela aproximação dos pressupostos teóricos aos dados empíricos. Resultados: A partir dos relatos, emergiram cinco categorias que evidenciam a mudança no cotidiano familiar em função do transplante e o seu impacto nas expectativas futuras do acompanhante em relação à saúde da criança, a importância do suporte da equipe multidisciplinar no hospital, o papel fundamental de rede de apoio social e o turbilhão de sentimentos vivenciados pelo acompanhante nesse momento difícil em sua vida. Considerações finais: Conhecer as experiências de familiares acompanhantes da criança hospitalizada submetida ao TMO revela a necessidade de adaptações de todos os envolvidos à nova rotina e do fortalecimento do vínculo com a equipe multiprofissional, que deve se sensibilizar às preocupações da família. Os resultados evidenciam o mérito da abordagem qualitativa para investigações em que situações envolvendo vivências e sentimentos de crianças e familiares sejam contemplados no contexto da saúde.

A Diabetes mellitus é uma doença com incidência moderada nos cães, caracterizada como um distúrbio no pâncreas endócrino com diminuição nos níveis séricos de insulina. Os principais sintomas poliúria, polidipsia, polifagia e glicosúria. Este relato aborda o atendimento de uma cadela sem raça definida, castrada, com dez anos de idade, pesando 16,7 kg. No animal, foram coletados os exames de hemograma e perfil bioquímico sérico, que foram solicitados para realização de um procedimento cirúrgico e evidenciaram alterações em glicemia total, fosfatase alcalina, alanina aminotransferase e plaquetas totais, revelando um quadro clínico de Diabetes mellitus. Para confirmação do diagnóstico, realizou-se exames complementares, como coleta de sumário de urina e dosagem da glicemia em jejum. Na ultrassonografia foi identificada piometra de coto e optou-se por intervenção cirúrgica. Após o tratamento cirúrgico e medicamentoso com uso de insulina, a paciente apresentou melhora e permanece estável até o momento. Contudo, tornou-se insulino-dependente dispondo de uma cegueira definitiva decorrente de catarata diabética.

As neoplasias gástricas são menos prevalentes em cães e gatos e se manifestam como perda de apetite, perda de peso, vômitos (com ou sem sangue), poliúria, polidipsia e fezes com sangue, levando à anemia. Helicobacter spp. é uma bactéria Gram-negativa, em forma de espiral, flagelada, que infecta a mucosa gástrica de humanos e animais como cães e gatos. Helicobacter spp é a causa de diversas doenças de gravidade variável. Estudos demonstraram a relação dessa bactéria com gastrite humana, úlceras gástricas e duodenais e tumores gástricos. Apesar de ocorrer em humanos, a relação entre esses tumores e cães é considerada inconclusiva, principalmente, pela falta de pesquisas. O presente relato descreve a avaliação clínica de um paciente diagnosticado com sarcoma indiferenciado por provável infiltrado de Helicobacter spp na região antro pilórica, sendo considerada uma forma rara de apresentação em cães. Destaca-se que a complexidade diagnóstica desses casos esteja relacionada à inespecificidade dos sinais clínicos e da necessidade de biopsia para comprovação diagnóstica.

A ruptura diafragmática é uma condição em que ocorre o rompimento do diafragma, resultando no deslocamento das vísceras abdominais para a cavidade torácica. Pode ser de origem congênita ou traumática e seu diagnóstico geralmente é realizado através da radiografia, onde a intervenção cirúrgica é o tratamento mais adequado. O caso descreve um cão, SRD, macho, levado à clínica veterinária após acidente automobilístico. O animal foi internado e liberado com prescrição de medicamentos, visto que, os exames de imagem não apresentaram alterações. Após a manifestação de diversos sintomas e com uma nova radiografia, foi diagnosticada a ruptura diafragmática. Submetido à cirurgia, a recuperação de excelência tornou o prognóstico favorável.

Resumo: Na passagem do quadragésimo aniversário do livro Relações sociais e Serviço Social no Brasil, este artigo tem por objetivo socializar uma estratégia de articulação acadêmica. Por meio do Programa de Pós-graduação em Serviço Social e Desenvolvimento Regional e do curso de graduação da UFF, houve uma mobilização de assistentes sociais e da comunidade universitária com o objetivo de celebrar o livro, homenagear Marilda Iamamoto e demonstrar a atualidade de sua obra na formação em Serviço Social.

O artigo apresenta uma tradução do poema matemático de autoria atribuída a Arquimedes, o Problema Bovino. A tradução foi feita a partir da edição de Charles Mugler, de 1971. Acompanha a tradução uma introdução ao problema e comentários sobre resoluções do problema, apresentadas com simbologia e recursos da matemática contemporânea, com explicações sobre os objetos e procedimentos de cálculo necessários.

Factors impacting technology adoption encompass technical, organizational, and human issues. This paper shows two projects that aim to develop students’ digital aptitude by promoting a culture change from a game prejudiced environment into a habitat of technology-prone users. The first project, Ti-Games Maricá, took place three years ago, encompassing 50 schools in Maricá, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, and consisted of a school versus school game tournament, a series of workshops, talks, and other activities involving games. The research’s main goal was to observe the impact of games in schools on increasing students’ self-esteem and professional perspectives in technological fields. Another goal was to improve the use of technology in schools beyond administrative tools, attending to one of BNCC’s recommendations. Based on the massive popularity of electronic games as a hobby for young Brazilians perceived in this previous project, the EducaTech-RJ project, on the other hand, consists of workshops that involve students on the theme “culture and digital literacy with a focus on computer games.” The target audience is all the secondary schools of Rio de Janeiro State, engaging 1231 schools. The project aims to increase student's awareness of the possibilities of adopting, manipulating, and creating technology. The workshops are also an opportunity to collect data about technology adoption and envision technology as an educational tool in schools.

A eutanásia constitui-se de parte integrante do cotidiano médico veterinário, tendo como característica induzir a morte do animal sem dor e ou sofrimento. O Conselho Federal de Medicina Veterinária estabelece regras para esse procedimento visando o cumprimento do objetivo primordial da prática, a cessação da vida do indivíduo de maneira indolor, possibilitando ao executor usufruir de diferentes métodos para essa indução. Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar qualitativamente por meio de questionário, a consonância ou não, das condutas médico veterinárias dos profissionais autônomos e de clínicas do ramo nos municípios de Barreiras e Luis Eduardo Magalhães, cidades integrantes da região oeste do estado da Bahia, com o que preconiza o “Guia brasileiro de boas práticas para eutanásia em animais” do Conselho Federal de Medicina Veterinária.

Abstract Background Phylogenetic studies indicate bats as original hosts of SARS-CoV-2. However, it remains unclear whether other animals, including pets, are crucial in the spread and maintenance of COVID-19 worldwide. Methods In this study, we analyzed the first fatal case of a SARS-CoV-2 and FeLV co-infection in an eight-year-old male cat. We carried out a clinical evaluation and several laboratory analyses. Results As main results, we observed an animal presenting severe acute respiratory syndrome and lesions in several organs, which led to the animal’s death. RT-qPCR analysis showed a SARS-CoV-2 as the causative agent. The virus was detected in several organs, indicating a multisystemic infection. The virus was found in a high load in the trachea, suggesting that the animal may have contribute to the transmission of the virus. The whole-genome sequencing revealed an infection by SARS-CoV-2 Gamma VOC (P.1), and any mutations indicating host adaptation were observed. Conclusion Our data show that FeLV-positive cats are susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection and raise questions about the potential of immunocompromised FeLV-positive cats to act as a reservoir for SARS-CoV-2 new variants.

The overlap of visual items in data visualization techniques is a known problem aggravated by data volume and available visual space issues. Several methods have been applied to mitigate occlusion in data visualizations, such as random jitter, transparency, layout reconfiguration, focus+context techniques, etc. This paper aims to present a comparative study of the reading of visual variables values with partial overlap. The study focuses on categorical data representations varying the percentage limits of partial overlap and the number of distinct values for each visual variable: hue, lightness, saturation, shape, text, orientation, and texture. A computational application generated random scenarios for a unique visual pattern target to perform location tasks. Each scenario involved presentation of the visual items in a grid layout with 160 elements (10 × 16), each visual variable had from three to five distinct values encoded, and the partial overlap percentages applied, represented by a gray square in the center of each grid element, were 0% (control), 50%, 60%, and 70%. Similar to the preliminary tests, the tests conducted in this study involved 48 participants organized into four groups, with 126 tasks per participant, and the application captured the response and time for each task performed. The results analysis indicated that the hue, lightness, and shape visual variables were robust to high percentages of occlusion and gradual increase in encoded visual values. The text visual variable showed promising results for accuracy, and the resolution time was a little higher than for the last visual variables mentioned. In contrast, the texture visual variable presented lower accuracy to high levels of occlusion and more different visual encoding values. Finally, the orientation and saturation visual variables exhibited the highest error and worst perfomance rates during the tests.

O objetivo desse estudo foi determinar o valor de VHS em cães de raças braquicefálicas clinicamente normais com objetivo de determinar parâmetros de normalidades para raças com essa característica. O método Vertebral Heart Size (VHS) efetua a mensuração do tamanho cardíaco comparando as vertebras torácicas afim de auxiliar em diagnostico de insuficiência cardíacas e cardiomegalias. A radiografia de tórax possui uma importância na clínica medica de pequenos animais, trazendo informações para avaliações de órgãos intratorácicos, assim como a capacidade de efetuar avaliação da silhueta cardíaca. As radiografias foram avaliadas de acordo o proposto por Buchanan & Bücheler (1995), mensurando a silhueta cardíaca e profundidade, e largura do tórax. Os valores médios obtidos para VHS foram de 9,57±059v, sendo o menor valor mensurado de 8,5v e maior 10,5v. A especificação averiguou valores divergentes quando comparado com o estudo dos autores. Confirmando assim, a necessidade de determinação de valores de VHS específicos para raças com características de braquicefalia.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar e analisar o peso de carbono orgânico fixado na biomassa aérea de árvores de Pinus taeda L. em diferentes espaçamentos de plantio, aos nove anos de idade, na região de Irati-PR. Em cada tratamento foram selecionadas e marcadas em campo nove árvores, ou seja, uma árvore em cada classe diamétrica, visando determinações de biomassa aérea e carbono, totalizando 81 árvores distribuídas na área do ensaio. Cada árvore foi segmentada em: fuste, galhos verdes, galhos secos, acículas e casca. O efeito do espaço vital nos pesos de carbono fixados na biomassa, bem como os valores de carbono total por árvore foram submetidos a análises de estatística descritiva e experimental (homogeneidade de variâncias, análise de variância e teste de comparação de médias de Tukey), no delineamento inteiramente casualizado. O acúmulo de biomassa e peso de carbono fixado ocorreu prioritariamente no fuste, seguido pelos galhos verdes, casca, acículas e galhos secos. O peso de carbono fixado na biomassa de Pinus taeda foi afetado pelo espaço vital de crescimento.

Abstract Ocelots (Leopardus pardalis) are widely distributed throughout the Americas, being dependent on forested areas to survive. Although ocelot ecology is broadly studied throughout the species range distribution, studies concerning factors that may affect ocelot occupancy in the Atlantic Forest are still scarce. We used camera traps to evaluate factors influencing the probabilities of detection and occupancy of ocelots in a protected area of the Atlantic Forest, the Rio Doce State Park (RDSP), southeastern Brazil. To assess ocelot occupancy and detection probabilities, we measured the distances between sampling stations and rivers, lakes, cities, pasture, and Eucalyptus plantations. In addition, we recorded the mean rainfall levels for each sampling occasion, and native grassland areas within a 500 m‐buffer around each sampling station. We found a strong and positive association between ocelot detection and the dry season, which might be due to a higher number of individuals moving through the Park during this season. Moreover, we found a strong and positive association of ocelot detection with native grassland areas around lakes, which may be related to the ocelot behavior of searching for prey in these areas. Conversely, the ocelot occupancy probability was intermediate (Ψ^ = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.36–0.69) and was not strongly associated with the evaluated covariates, which may be explained by the high‐quality of forest habitats and water resources that are homogeneously distributed within the Park. Our study indicates that the RDSP still provides a structurally suitable forest habitat for ocelots, but because of the current worrying scenario of over fragmentation, reduction of forest cover, and weakness of the protective legislation of this biome, the long‐term persistence of the species in RDSP is uncertain.

Abstract We describe the design and fabrication of miniaturized origami structures based on thin-film shape memory alloys. These devices are attractive for medical implants, as they overcome the opposing requirements of crimping the implant for insertion into an artery while keeping sensitive parts of the implant nearly stress-free. The designs are based on a group theory approach in which compatibility at a few creases implies the foldability of the whole structure. Importantly, this approach is versatile and thus provides a pathway for patient-specific treatment of brain aneurysms of differing shapes and sizes. The wafer-based monolithic fabrication method demonstrated here, which comprises thin-film deposition, lithography, and etching using sacrificial layers, is a prerequisite for any integrated self-folding mechanism or sensors and will revolutionize the availability of miniaturized implants, allowing for new and safer medical treatments.

New ways of interacting with computers is driving research, which is motivated mainly by the different types of user profiles. Referred to as non-conventional interactions, these are found with the use of hands, voice, head, mouth, and feet, etc. and these interactions occur in scenarios where the use of mouse and keyboard would be difficult. A constant challenge in the adoption of new forms of interaction, based on the movement of pointers and the selection of interface components, is the Midas Touch (MT) problem, defined as the involuntary action of selection by the user when interacting with the computer system, causing unwanted actions and harming the user experience during the usage process. Thus, this article aims to mitigate the TM problem in interaction with web pages using a solution centered on the Head Tracking (HT) technique. For this purpose, a component in the form of a Bar was developed and inserted on the left side of the web page, called the Pactolo Bar (PB), in order to enable or disable the clicking event during the interaction process. As a way of analyzing the effectiveness of PB in relation to TM, two stages of tests were carried out based on the collaboration of voluntary participants. The first step aims to find the data that would lead to the best configuration of the BP, while the second step aims to carry out a comparative analysis between the PB solution and the eViacam software, whose use is also focused on the HT technique. The results obtained from the use of PB were considered promising, since the analysis of quantitative data points to a significant prevention of involuntary clicks in the iteration interface and the analysis of qualitative data showed the development of a better user experience due to the ease of use, which can be noticed in elements such as the PB size, the triggering mechanism, and its positioning in the graphical interface. This study benefits in the context of the user experience, because, when using non-conventional interactions, basic items such as aspects of the graphic elements, and interaction events raise new studies that seek to mitigate the problem of the Midas Touch.

Abstract The jaguar (Panthera onca) plays an important role in maintaining biodiversity and ecological processes. We evaluated the status of a jaguar population in one of the last stronghold habitats for its conservation in the Atlantic Forest, the Rio Doce State Park (RDSP). We used a random survey design from 2016/17 to estimate jaguar abundance and density as well as its occupancy and detection probabilities in the entire Park's area. To monitor for temporal fluctuations in density and abundance, we used a systematic survey design in the southern portion of the Park where jaguars were more recorded when using the random approach. We then conducted two surveys in 2017/18 and 2020. Our 2016/17 random survey revealed that jaguar density (0.11 ± SE 0.28 individuals/100 km2) was the lowest obtained for the species across the Atlantic Forest. We noticed that jaguar density increased three times from 2017/18 (0.55 ± SE 0.45 individuals/100 km2) to 2020 (1.61 ± SE 0.6 individuals/100 km2). Jaguar occupancy and detection probability were 0.40 and 0.08, respectively. The low jaguar occupancy probability was positively associated with smaller distances from lakes and records of potential prey. The detection probability was positively associated with prey detection, the rainy season, and smaller distances from lakes. Our work contributes to a growing awareness of the potential conservation value of a protected area in a human‐dominated landscape as one of the last strongholds for jaguars across the Atlantic Forest.

A agenesia da veia cava caudal é uma malformação que ocorre ainda no período da embriogênese, tendo como característica a ausência parcial ou total do órgão. Por se tratar de uma anormalidade às vezes assintomática, são achados raros encontrados em exames de imagem, podendo ser desde uma simples ultrassonografia, a uma tomografia computadorizada, sendo os mesmos os principais métodos para a detecção e fechamento do diagnóstico. Este trabalho tem como objetivo relatar um caso de um cão da raça Scott Terrier, de 8 anos e 4 meses, atendido em um hospital veterinário na cidade de Salvador-BA, que após a realização de ultrassom e tomografia, confirmou-se a agenesia da veia cava caudal.

O presente trabalho se propõe abordar a temática da educação popular em perspectiva de “longa duração”, procurando captar as mudanças de sentido ocorridas no conceito ao longo da história brasileira. Para tanto, procuramos articular o fenômeno ao conceito, de modo a relacionar as modificações mencionadas com a realidade histórica em que as ideias e as práticas em educação popular foram pensadas e executadas. Buscamos salientar que aquelas mudanças, via de regra, estiveram conectadas às transformações manifestas na relação entre a sociedade e o Estado: nessa articulação, localizam-se as mutações de sentido na educação popular, que surge com um ideal de escola pública estatal e acaba por se tornar quase um sinônimo de educação não formal ou formalizada fora da institucionalidade do aparelho de Estado. Contemporaneamente, o conceito de educação popular basicamente se restringe a projetos pedagógicos realizados por movimentos da sociedade civil. Assim sendo, nosso objetivo é tratar do processo histórico que gerou tais transformações e refletir sobre as possibilidades e os limites para a prática da educação popular nos dias de hoje.

Este artigo tematiza o trabalho como categoria essencial no processo ontológico humano utilizando como elemento figurativo deste tema o filme “Eu, Daniel Blake”, que é analisado à luz da teoria materialista histórico dialética. Ao longo do texto abordamos a relação entre os aspectos biológicos e culturais na formação e desenvolvimento humano; o papel do trabalho como essencial no processo teleológico de construção de algo não dado de imediato pela natureza; o caráter libertador dessa atividade que ao contrário dos animais, presas da necessidade, nos potencializa a evoluir para além do imediato; as condições do trabalho alienado como ameaça produzida a essa liberdade e os impactos dessa forma de expropriação à subjetividade. Discutimos a atual precarização das condições de vida das classes que vivem do trabalho. O estranhamento enquanto elemento causador de conflito e o sofrimento. O filme “Eu Daniel Blake” demonstra de modo artístico a situação de conflito e sofrimento vivido por muitos trabalhadores na atualidade.

ABSTRACT Objective: to evidence the clinical outcomes of navigation performed by nurses in cancer patients. Methods: this is an integrative literature review with collection in MEDLINE via PUBMED, LILACS, Web of Science, Scopus, and CINAHL databases. The final sample consisted of seven studies. The data were analyzed and presented descriptively. Data related to clinical outcomes were compiled and described in full. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality categorization was used to assess the level of evidence. Results: the clinical outcomes demonstrated were decreased distress, anxiety and depression, improved control and management of symptoms, improved physical conditioning, improved quality and continuity of care, improved quality of life, reduced time to start treatment. Final considerations: there is research that shows better clinical outcomes in cancer patients through navigation by nurses across the continuum of health care.

Along with the wide dissemination of geographic information through online Geographic Information Systems (GIS), it is possible to do several spatial analyzes in a quick and interactive way. Although this possibility appears fundamental for the improvement of geography teaching, these platforms have still been little explored in the classroom. In this paper, we present the LAPIG Maps platform as a tool for the development of interactive activities for the teaching of Geography. We discuss its potential as an important auxiliary tool in the theoretical-practical development of the contents, associated with the geographic categories of analysis

Este artigo propõe uma leitura crítico-sociológica de questões histórico-sociais abordadas nas american graphic novel´s X-Men. Publicada inicialmente em 1963, nos Estados Unidos, essa História em Quadrinhos (HQs) tem apresentado diferentes personagens, histórias e temáticas bastante pertinentes aos atuais problemas da contemporaneidade, tais como: os conflitos étnicos, a violência urbana e a desigualdade social. Para além dessas temáticas, as HQs dos X-Men, em um discurso metafórico, possibilitam-nos também pensar em outras questões sociais – como as práticas de racismo e de homofobia. Desse modo, analisando trechos de revistas e filmes, em paralelo à realidade social de negros e de pessoas lésbicas, gays, bissexuais, trans e intersexos (LGBTI) no Brasil e no mundo, propomos estabelecer uma relação entre o discurso da mutação dos quadrinhos com o discurso da diferença, isto é, de respeito à alteridade. Como recurso teórico para empreender tal análise, estão articuladas, nesse texto, as reflexões do filósofo Giles Deleuze, quanto à “reversão ao simulacro”, bem como à lógica da diférrance do filósofo Jacques Derrida. Assim, a partir disso, verificamos que essa literatura nos possibilita flagrar intersecções entre as práticas discriminatórias sofridas pelos mutantes nas HQs e as práticas racistas e homofóbicas sofridas pelos negros e pelas pessoas LGBTI.

Wearable sensors have increasingly been applied in healthcare to generate data and monitor patients unobtrusively. Their application for Brain–Computer Interfaces (BCI) allows for unobtrusively monitoring one’s cognitive state over time. A particular state relevant in multiple domains is cognitive fatigue, which may impact performance and attention, among other capabilities. The monitoring of this state will be applied in real learning settings to detect and advise on effective break periods. In this study, two functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) wearable devices were employed to build a BCI to automatically detect the state of cognitive fatigue using machine learning algorithms. An experimental procedure was developed to effectively induce cognitive fatigue that included a close-to-real digital lesson and two standard cognitive tasks: Corsi-Block task and a concentration task. Machine learning models were user-tuned to account for the individual dynamics of each participant, reaching classification accuracy scores of around 70.91 ± 13.67 %. We concluded that, although effective for some subjects, the methodology needs to be individually validated before being applied. Moreover, time on task was not a particularly determining factor for classification, i.e., to induce cognitive fatigue. Further research will include other physiological signals and human–computer interaction variables.

O presente artigo objetiva refletir sobre o fenômeno da violência, sobretudo sua manifestação no interior da escola, identificando suas características, no sentido de reconhecer esse fenômeno nas suas múltiplas e complexas determinações, enfatizando o trabalho educativo do professor numa perspectiva humanizadora como possibilidade de seu enfrentamento e superação. Utilizamos como base para tal reflexão e análise o método materialista histórico e dialético, a partir de pesquisas interventivas-formativas realizadas pelo GEIPEEthc e, também, trabalhos de autores que estudam este fenômeno no contexto escolar. Sabemos o quanto o fenômeno da violência se apresenta de maneira generalizada e preponderante na sociedade atual e que tal situação pode ser entendido como consequência das relações alienadas e alienantes calcadas no bojo do metabolismo capitalista. Tal realidade levam os indivíduos a não desenvolver outra possibilidade de resolver seus conflitos senão a partir de atos violentos, sendo que, na maioria dos casos, estes atos violentos são compreendidos de forma imediata, aparente, simplista e naturalizante, análise esta que precisa ser superada a partir de uma visão histórico-cultural de desenvolvimento humano e por uma práxis científica educativa. Assim, acreditamos que seja possível educar e orientar as novas gerações para encontrarem caminhos racionais e conscientes para sua vida em sociedade, de forma a não optarem pelo uso da violência nas suas relações, pois a violência inviabiliza as relações sociais humanizadoras e compromete sobremaneira o processo de desenvolvimento das potencialidades humanas em direção ao sujeito humano-genérico livre e universal.

Introduction: Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is considered a gold standard for assessment of arterial stiffness [1]; neck circumference (NC) is a good anthropometrical indicator of fat accumulation in the upper body region [2]. Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study representative of a neighborhood of Salvador-BA, Brazil, distributed in 12 census tracts according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The overall sample is randomized in adults from the assigned area, from December 2016 to May 2019 comprise 145 people. Individual and household records are filled out PWV was the measuring velocity between the carotid and right femoral wave, coupled to the electrocardiogram. The committee for research on human subjects of the FTC approved the protocol (No1827621). The measurement equipment was the flattening tonometer SphygmoCor® apparatus (XCEL, AtCor Medical, Sydney, Australia). The NC was obtained by using an inelastic fiberglass tape measure based on the height of the cricothyroid cartilage. The values ≥37 cm for men or ≥34 cm for women were used for their classification [3]. The frequency and descriptive measures, Spearman’s linear correlation coefficient between the laboratory tests and adjusted PWV. STATA v.12 software was used for treatment and generation of results. The level of statistical significance was set at 5%. Results: There was a predominance of women (70.3%). The correlation is the same for both sexes (r = 0.30), a weak positive, however it was statistically significant for women (p = 0.0031). Conclusion: The NC and PWV measurements showed a weakly positive. There was a statistically significant correlation for women.

As dermatopatias autoimunes são aquelas nos quais anticorpos próprios são direcionados contra algum componente da pele. No caso do complexo pênfigo, esses anticorpos são direcionados contra proteínas responsáveis pela adesão celular da epiderme, formando pústulas. O complexo pênfigo está classificado em pênfigo eritematoso, panepidermal, foliáceo, paraneoplásico, vulgar e vegetante, destes o pênfigo foliáceo tem sido mais observado na rotina clínica e a principal alteração observada é a presença de vesículas, pústulas e crostas encontradas bilateralmente nas regiões dorsal, abdominal ventral, axilar e membros. O diagnóstico dessa enfermidade ocorre através de histórico, anamnese, exames complementares como citologia de pele e histopatológico. O tratamento é longo e consiste basicamente em suprimir a resposta imunológica do paciente. Para isso, o principal fármaco utilizado é a Prednisolona. O prognóstico é reservado, devido às complicações inevitáveis do uso prolongado de corticosteróide. O presente artigo teve como objetivo relatar um caso de Pênfigo Foliáceo, em um paciente da espécie canina, macho, com um ano de idade, sem raça definida (SRD) atendido no Hospital Veterinário da UNIME - Lauro de Freitas, BA. A resposta rápida do paciente ao tratamento com uso de corticóide mostrou-se eficaz para a remissão dos sinais clínicos.

O presente artigo tem o objetivo de, a partir da trajetória intelectual de Paulo Freire, localizar o contexto e os fundamentos de seu método de alfabetização de adultos, identificando os desdobramentos de suas experiências pedagógicas e o impacto que tiveram na educação popular. Para tal, apresentamos algumas ideias-chave do autor durante o período de 1958 a 1967, correspondentes ao momento de amadurecimento das reflexões do autor, de seu engajamento no movimento de cultura popular, da elaboração de sua proposta metodológica e das meditações a respeito do sentido político-pedagógico de seu método. Em seguida, apresentamos algumas críticas de autores progressistas e conservadores em relação às consequências simbólicas e práticas da proposta freiriana e do conjunto da educação popular do início da década de 1960, no Brasil, reconhecendo a validade de algumas considerações e os limites e imprecisões de algumas de suas críticas. Aim: to know the perceptions of nurses about transvestites and the technicalscientific preparation to assist them. Method: a descriptive and qualitative field study, carried out in Family Health Strategies, in western Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil, during the second semester of 2014. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with nurses and analyzed based on the thematic analysis. Results: it was identified that the nurses do not know the meaning of being a transvestite, which limits their view to the figure of a man dressed as a woman. Significant gaps in the academic training of these professionals regarding the specificities of transvestite care was perceived. In relation to the professional performance, it was evidenced the lack of knowledge about the public policies and legislation directed to the transvestite population. Conclusion: this research revealed that there is no knowledge of the gender identity of transvestites and that there are limitations regarding the assistential care directed to this public

This paper evaluated the effects of the ratio of nitrous oxide to oxygen (50% of each) on cardiovascular parameters in pigs anesthetized with propofol and maintained in ventilation with intermittent positive pressure. Sixteen Large White pigs, weighing between 15 and 20 kg, were divided into two groups of eight animals, and designated as follows: GPN (propofol/nitrous oxide) and GPA (propofol/compressed air). In order to allow endotracheal intubation, the animals received azaperone (2 mg kg-1, IM) followed, after 20 minutes, by intravenous propofol. After successful intubation, continuous infusion of propofol was initiated at a dose of 0.4 mg kg-1minute-1. From this point, the GPN group received N2O (diluted in 50% oxygen), while the GPA group received compressed air (diluted in 50% oxygen). Rocuronium was then administered by continuous intravenous infusion at 0.6 mg kg-1h-1. Pressure-controlled ventilation (PCV) was started and adjusted to 15 cmH2O, and the respiratory rate was set to reach capnometry readings between 35-45 mmHg. The measurement of parameters (heart rate, mean arterial pressure, cardiac index, systemic vascular resistance index, stroke index) begun 15 minutes after the administration of rocuronium, and was repeated in 15-minute intervals for 60 minutes. Data were statistically analyzed by ANOVA followed by Bonferroni test. The results showed that the 1:1 ratio combination of nitrous oxide to oxygen (50% each) did not alter the mentioned parameters in pigs anesthetized with propofol and maintained at pressure-controlled ventilation, indicating that it is a safe protocol for the cardiovascular system.

Este trabalho ressalta aspectos importantes do processo formativo da cidade de Imperatriz, considerada a segunda maior cidade do estado do Maranhão, situada na região nordeste brasileira. Como objetivo central elege-se a discussão e a análise do processo de ocupação da cidade, na elaboração de um modelo teórico que permita aglutinar esse entendimento. Assim, propõe-se que tal processo seja entendido mediante a abordagem das frentes de ocupação, dos estágios evolutivos e da sucessão das atividades econômicas. Como resultado, a abordagem permitiu identificar que, no histórico de formação da cidade, houve três estágios importantes e distintos, respectivamente pelas características: “exploratória”, “desenvolvimentista” e, atualmente, a “consolidação”, todos compostos por atividades comerciais distintas, configuradoras dos estágios econômicos.

Introduction: Central Pressure (PC) has shown to be more reliable in cardiovascular (CV) mortality (1); Salt intake and excretion seems to lead to an increase in this pulsatile component of the arterial flow (2, 3). C entral Pulse Pressure (PPc) data is very few. Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study representative of a poor and mixed-race neighborhood of Salvador-B A, Brazil, distributed in 12 census tracts according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The overall sample is randomized in adults from the assigned area, from December 2016 to May 2018 comprise 110 people. Individual and household records are filled out. The central pressure, measured in the radial artery, obtained through aplanation tonometry, using the SphygmoCor® (XCEL, AtCor Medical, Sydney, Australia (2), with operation index ≥85%. PP c measured by systolic central pressure minus diastolic central pressure. 24-hour urine samples were collected. Urinary sodium (US) measured by the selective ion electrode, ADVIA1800® (SiemensHealthcare Japan/Canada). The committee for research on human subjects of the FTC approved the protocol (No1827621). Median, interquartile range, Spearman’s linear correlation coefficient between PPc and sodium stratified by sex, using STATA v.12 software for data base management and statistical analysis. The level of statistical significance was set at 5%. Results: 71,8% female, mean age 49,7 ± 16y. Median excretion rate of sodium was, in male,133,2 ± 82 mEq/l (In general 126,4 ± 84). In male was a significance negative correlation (r = −0,43;p = 0,01)between PPC and US excretion. Conclusion: There was a correlation between the values of PPc and UR in men (fig.1). These results need future best understanding.

We show the use of nickel-titanium (NiTi) metal thin films as functional substrates of magnetoelectric composites allowing the composites’ mechanical resonance to be tuned towards the frequency range of interest by employing the gradual change of the Young’s modulus during the martensite-austenite phase transformation. Such composites are successfully fabricated by layering functional piezoelectric aluminum nitride and highly magnetostrictive FeCoSiB on sputtered NiTi-films. Subsequent characterizations reveal high magnetoelectric response. Applied as magnetic field sensors a high sensitivity (with a magnetoelectric coefficient αME=290 V/cm Oe) and low limit of detection of approximately 110 pT/Hz1/2 is observed for AC magnetic fields matching the mechanical resonance frequency. This mechanical resonance of the sensor can be altered with a Δf of 12% in the temperature interval between room temperature and 130 °C. This offers the possibility to adjust the sensor’s mechanical resonance frequency featuring the highest sensitivity to the magnetic field frequency to be measured.

O sensoriamento remoto e a cartografia são campos do conhecimento geográfico e, como tais, não se devem dissociá-los ou negligenciar a sua existência, como comumente se observa em escolas de nível fundamental. O aluno do século XXI é por excelência um dominador nato da tecnologia. O objetivo deste artigo é demonstrar como pode ser utilizado o sensoriamento remoto e a cartografia enquanto instrumentos para melhoria da qualidade do componente curricular geografia no nível fundamental. Dentre os procedimentos metodológicos, foram feitos levantamentos bibliográficos, escolha do campo de aplicação e nível de ensino, bem como a preparação das propostas de trabalho. Durante a realização da pesquisa percebeu-se o interesse e a facilidade com que os alunos têm de aprender a cartografia (modos de implantação: pontual, linear e zonal), quando feita uma abordagem através de imagens de sensoriamento remoto (padrões de interpretação), conseguindo obter uma melhor percepção do espaço geográfico. Concluiu-se que aliar os conhecimentos do sensoriamento remoto e da cartografia, no contexto do ensino, permite aos alunos, conhecer melhor seu lugar, familiarizar-se com a visão vertical, fazer inter-relações entre problemáticas, bem como desenvolver o domínio da linguagem cartográfica. THE REMOTE SENSING AND CARTOGRAPHY AS EDUCATIONAL TOOLS IN GEOGRAPHY TEACHING ABSTRACT Remote sensing and mapping are fields of geographical knowledge and as such, it should not dissociate them or neglect their existence, as commonly observed in elementary schools. The student of the XXI century is par excellence a born domineering technology. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how you can use the remote sensing and cartography as a tool for improving the quality of curricular geography component at the fundamental level. Among the methodological procedures, literature surveys were made, choose the scope and level of education as well as the preparation of work proposals. During the research it is noticed the interest and the ease with which students have to learn to cartography (deployment modes: punctual, linear and zonal) when made an approach through remote sensing images (interpretation patterns), managing to get a better understanding of the geographical space. We conclude that combining the knowledge of remote sensing and mapping in the context of teaching allows students better know their place, become familiar with the vertical view, do interrelations between issues and to develop the field of cartographic language. El estudiante del siglo XXI es por excelencia una tecnología dominante nacido. El propósito de este artículo es demostrar cómo se puede utilizar la teledetección y la cartografía como herramienta para mejorar la calidad de la geografía componente curricular en el nivel fundamental. Entre los procedimientos metodológicos, se realizaron exámenes de la bibliografía, seleccionar el alcance y el nivel de educación, y la preparación de propuestas de trabajo. Durante la investigación es evidente el interés y la facilidad con la que los estudiantes tienen que aprender a la cartografía (modos de implementación: puntual, lineal y zonal), cuando se hace una aproximación a través de imágenes de teledetección (patrones de interpretación) la gestión para obtener una mejor comprensión del espacio geográfico. Se concluye que la combinación de los conocimientos de la teledetección y la cartografía en el contexto de la educación permite a los estudiantes conocer mejor su lugar, se familiaricen con la visión vertical, hacen interrelaciones entre los problemas y desarrollar el dominio del lenguaje cartográfica. This article aims to present the development of the concept rule of law, indicating its origin and evolution of the original model to the present day worldwide, analyzing how the phenomenon occurred before the Brazilian peculiarities, where the current democratic state model of law is taken from the perspective of ensuring respect for civil liberties, human rights and fundamental guarantees, despite the general lack of inclusion in the legal system. The comprehension of these transformation is important for a better understanding of the state dynamics in countries that suffers from a vulnerable democratic basis and with chronic disregard for guarantees and individual freedoms.

Pinus taeda L. é uma das espécies do gênero Pinus mais plantadas na região Sul do Brasil por apresentar excelente crescimento e ótima adaptação às condições climáticas e de solo. Essa espécie é utilizada em larga escala, principalmente para a produção de celulose, construção civil, laminação, produção de móveis, particulados e serraria. Objetivou-se avaliar a produção volumétrica de Pinus taeda L. em diferentes espaços vitais de crescimento (entre 1 m2 e 16 m2 por planta) propiciados por nove diferentes espaçamentos entre árvores de um ensaio em cinco blocos ao acaso. O trabalho baseou-se nas medidas de altura e DAP em 25 árvores internas da parcela, aos sete anos após plantio das mudas oriundas de pomar de sementes clonal. Valores estimados de volume por hectare foram inversamente proporcionais ao aumento do espaço vital, alcançando entre 74,2 e 274,8 m3 /ha. Os incrementos médios em volume atingiram entre 10,60 e 39,25 m3 /ha/ano. Concluiu-se que, se o objetivo é a produção volumétrica mesmo com diâmetros pequenos, deve-se optar por espaços vitais menores. Quando se deseja maiores diâmetros, a opção é por espaços maiores. No presente caso, o melhor compromisso entre produção volumétrica e diâmetros grandes pode estar nos espaços vitais intermediários, entre 5 e 8 m2 para cada árvore. Pinus taeda L. is one of the most Pinus species planted in southern Brazil, because it presents excellent growth and optimum adaptation to climatic and soil condition. The species is used in large scale, mainly for cellulose production, construction, laminating, production of furniture, particulates and sawmill. It was aimed to evaluate the Pinus taeda L. volumetric production at different growth vital spaces (ranging 1 m² and 16 m² per plant) provided by nine different spacings between plants, the trial was installed in a randomized blocks with five replications. The study was based on height and DBH measurements of 25 internal trees in the plot at seven years after seedlings planting from seeds of clonal orchard. The estimated volume per hectare was inversely proportional to increase of vital spaces, ranging from 74.2 to 274.8 m³/ha. The increases in average volume reached between 10.60 and 39.25 m3 /ha/year. It follows that, if the aim is the volumetric production despite of a small diameter, small vital spacing should be chosen. If the larger diameter is desired, larger vital spacing should be the option. In the present case, the best compromise between volume production and large diameters may be in the vital intermediate spaces, between 5 and 8 m2 for each tree.

Abstract AIMS In recent years, recognition of the pedagogical nature of coaching has gained increasing traction. However, within this line of inquiry, only limited attention has been given to the work of Lev Vygotsky. The aim of this article is to construct a more comprehensive case about how Vygotsky’s principal ideas can aid our understanding of both the act and process of sports coaching. METHODS The method involves constructing a case from Vygotsky’s original work, and how it has been interpreted by others, related to the applicability of using some of his concepts to further our understanding of sports coaching practice. The case presented represents an interpretive and considered approach to the question and task at hand. DISCUSSION The discussion is centred on the utility of Vygotsky’s theorising to sports coaching practice. In particular his advocacy of (1) the cultural-historical perspective; (2) the claim of language as the greatest mediator in learning; (3) how perezhivane contributes to such knowledge generation; (4) the zone of proximal development and the role of the ‘more capable other’ within it; and (5) the dialectical approach, focussing on the dynamic relationship between everyday and scientific concepts, are given primacy. CONCLUSION Finally, a reflective conclusion summarises the main points made and suggests possible future courses of action.

BACKGROUND: The surgical treatment of advanced megaesophagus has no consensus, being esophagectomy the more commonly used method. Since it has high morbimortality - inconvenient for benign disease -, in recent years an alternative has been introduced: the esophageal mucosal resection. AIM: To compare early and late results of the two techniques evaluating the operative time, length of ICU stay; postoperative hospitalization; total hospitalization; intra- and postoperative complication rates; mortality; and long-term results. METHODS: Were evaluated retrospectively 40 charts, 23 esophagectomies and 17 mucosectomies. In assessing postoperative results, interviews were conducted by using a specific questionnaire. RESULTS: Comparing the means of esophagectomy and mucosal resection, respectively, the data were: 1) surgical time - 310.2 min and 279.7 min (p> 0.05); 2) length of stay in ICU - 5 days and 2.53 days (p 0.05); 4) length of hospital stay after surgery - 19.05 days and 14.94 days (p> 0.05); 5) presence of intraoperative complications - 65% and 18% (p 0.05). In the assessment of late postoperative score (range 0-10) esophagectomy (n = 5) obtained 8.8 points and 8.8 points also got mucosal resection (n = 5). CONCLUSIONS: Esophageal mucosal resection proved to be good alternative for surgical treatment of megaesophagus. It was advantageous in the immediate postoperative period by presenting a lower average time in operation, the total hospitalization, ICU staying and complications rate. In the late postoperative period, the result was excellent and good in both operations.

Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar os efeitos da associação de óxido nitroso (N2O) ao oxigênio, na proporção de 50% cada, sobre os parâmetros cardiovasculares em suínos anestesiados com propofol e mantidos em ventilação com pressão positiva intermitente. Para isso, foram utilizados 16 suínos da raça Large White com pesos entre 15 e 20 kg, distribuídos em dois grupos de oito animais cada, assim nomeados: GPN (GrupoPropofol/Óxidonitroso) e GPA (GrupoPropofol/Arcomprimido). Os animais receberam azaperona (2mgkg-1,IM) e após 20 minutos, administrou-se propofol por via intravenosa, em doses suficientes para permitir a intubação traqueal. Após intubação, iniciou-se a infusão contínua de propofol na dose de 0,4mgkg-1minuto-1. A partir deste momento, os animais do GPN receberam N2O diluído em 50% de oxigênio e os do GPA, ar comprimido diluído em 50% de oxigênio. Ato contínuo, administrou-se, por infusão intravenosa contínua, rocurônio a 0,6mgkg-1h-1. A ventilação controlada a pressão (VCP) foi iniciada e ajustada a 15cmH2O e a freqüência respiratória foi regulada para alcançar valores de capnometria entre 35-45mmHg. A medição dos parâmetros (freqüência cardíaca, pressão arterial média, índice cardíaco, índice da resistência periférica total, índice sistólico) iniciou-se após 15 minutos da administração de rocurônio, repetindo-se a cada 15 minutos, durante um intervalo de 60 minutos. Os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística pela ANOVA seguida pelo teste de Bonferroni. Os resultados mostraram que a associação do óxido nitroso ao oxigênio na proporção de 50% cada em suíno anestesiado com propofol e mantido em ventilação controlada à pressão não provoca alterações cardiovasculares clinicamente relevantes.

Con el objetivo de evaluar las variaciones de la glucemia en caninos sometidos a hipotermia moderada se utilizaron ocho canes adultos, anestesiados con etomidato e isofluorano y sometidos a tres franjas de temperatura: 32-33 °C, 34-35 °C y normotermia 38,5 ± 1 °C, durante 150 min. La glucosa sérica de estos animales fue evaluada en el periodo basal y cada 30 min durante el periodo experimental. La glucemia fue mayor durante los 60, 90 y 120 min, comparada con las concentraciones basales; fue similar en las franjas de temperatura estudiadas y se mantuvo siempre dentro de los rangos para la especie. La aplicación de hipotermia moderada no altera las concentraciones de glucosa, lo que se constituye en un aspecto relevante en la neuroprotección.

Odontogenics tumors are uncommon in the dog. Ameloblastoma is considered a benign, aggressive and non-inductive odontogenic neoplasia commonly located in the incisor teeth. Its conclusive diagnosis is obtained by histopathological examination. Due to the expansive nature of this neoplasia, its resection needs to have an adequate surgical margin so it will have excellent prognostics. A canine, male, Pekingese, 8 years old had an increased volume in the rostral region of the mandible, adhered, consistency moderately firm. Radiography revealed extensive mandibular bone lysis caused by the neoplasia. Biopsy identified the tumor as ameloblastoma. Combining data from the clinical, radiographic and histopatological study and after explain to the owner regarding the postoperative esthetic it was held a bilateral rostral mandibulectomy. The fragment removed was assessed radiographically and histopathologically for evidence of tumor at its edges. The patient is active and healthy without evidence of metastasis or recurrence. The radiographic and histopathologic evaluation of edges of the fragment showed no tumor evidence. The patient is active and healthy without evidence of metastasis or recurrence since January 2010 when mandibulectomy was performed.Os tumores odontogênicos são alterações incomuns no cão. O ameloblastoma é considerado uma neoplasia odontogênica benigna, agressiva e não indutiva, comumente localizada na região dos dentes incisivos. Seu diagnóstico conclusivo é obtido através do histopatológico. Devido ao caráter expansivo desta neoplasia uma ressecção com margem cirúrgica adequada é necessária para que se tenha um excelente prognóstico. Um canino, macho, Pequinês de oito anos apresentou um aumento de volume na região rostral da mandíbula, aderido e de consistência moderadamente firme. A radiografia mandibular demonstrou a extensão da lise óssea causada pela neoplasia. O estudo histopatológico identificou a alteração como ameloblastoma. Conciliando dados do exame clínico, estudo radiográfico e histopatológico e após o esclarecimento do proprietário a respeito da estética pós-operatória, foi realizada uma mandibulectomia rostral bilateral. A avaliação radiografica e histopatológica das bordas do fragmento não demonstraram indícios tumorais. O paciente se encontra ativo e saudável sem indícios de metástase ou recidiva desde janeiro de 2010, quando foi realizada a mandibulectomia.

Constitui-se o processo de aprendizagem pelo desejo de esclarecer dúvidas para a construção do conhecimento e também pelo envolvimento, participação e interpretação, por parte do estudante, de uma série de situações que se mostram e são vivenciadas. Em razão da limitação curricular de tempo despendido para as aulas práticas, o estudante de medicina veterinária necessita realizar estágios para complementar e aperfeiçoar suas habilidades. O Projeto intitulado "Assistência Médico Veterinária no Setor de Cirurgia do HOSPMEV - UFBA" proporciona ao estudante o desenvolvimento do seu potencial relacionado à clínica e cirurgia de pequenos animais. Este trabalho trata-se de um relato de experiência no referido setor.
