BackgroundOccupational e–mental health (OeMH) interventions significantly reduce the burden of mental health conditions. The successful implementation of OeMH interventions is influenced by many implementation strategies, barriers, and facilitators across contexts, which, however, are not systematically tracked. One of the reasons is that international consensus on documenting and reporting the implementation of OeMH interventions is lacking. There is a need for practical guidance on the key factors influencing the implementation of interventions that organizations should consider. Stakeholder consultations secure a valuable source of information about these key strategies, barriers, and facilitators that are relevant to successful implementation of OeMH interventions. ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to develop a brief checklist to guide the implementation of OeMH interventions. MethodsBased on the results of a recently published systematic review, we drafted a comprehensive checklist with a wide set of strategies, barriers, and facilitators that were identified as relevant for the implementation of OeMH interventions. We then used a 2-stage stakeholder consultation process to refine the draft checklist to a brief and practical checklist comprising key implementation factors. In the first stage, stakeholders evaluated the relevance and feasibility of items on the draft checklist using a web-based survey. The list of items comprised 12 facilitators presented as statements addressing “elements that positively affect implementation” and 17 barriers presented as statements addressing “concerns toward implementation.” If a strategy was deemed relevant, respondents were asked to rate it using a 4-point Likert scale ranging from “very difficult to implement” to “very easy to implement.” In the second stage, stakeholders were interviewed to elaborate on the most relevant barriers and facilitators shortlisted from the first stage. The interview mostly focused on the relevance and priority of strategies and factors affecting OeMH intervention implementation. In the interview, the stakeholders’ responses to the open survey’s questions were further explored. The final checklist included strategies ranked as relevant and feasible and the most relevant facilitators and barriers, which were endorsed during either the survey or the interviews. ResultsIn total, 26 stakeholders completed the web-based survey (response rate=24.8%) and 4 stakeholders participated in individual interviews. The OeMH intervention implementation checklist comprised 28 items, including 9 (32.1%) strategies, 8 (28.6%) barriers, and 11 (39.3%) facilitators. There was widespread agreement between findings from the survey and interviews, the most outstanding exception being the idea of proposing OeMH interventions as benefits for employees. ConclusionsThrough our 2-stage stakeholder consultation, we developed a brief checklist that provides organizations with a guide for the implementation of OeMH interventions. Future research should empirically validate the effectiveness and usefulness of the checklist.

Abstract Microphilypnus and Leptophilypnion are miniaturized genera within the family Eleotridae. The evolutionary relationships among these taxa are still poorly understood, and molecular analyses are restricted to mitochondrial genes, which have not been conclusive. We compiled both mitochondrial and nuclear genes to study the phylogenetic position of Microphilypnus and the evolutionary history and relationships of eleotrids. We propose that Microphilypnus and Leptophilypnus (a non-miniature genus) are not sister groups as suggested by previous studies, but rather separate lineages that arose in the early Eocene, with Leptophilypnus recovered as a sister group to the other analyzed eleotrids. In fact, Microphilypnus is currently associated with the Neotropical clade Guavina/Dormitator/Gobiomorus. We also identified a well-supported clade that indicated Gobiomorus and Hemieleotris as paraphyletic groups, besides a close relationship among Calumia godeffroyi, Bunaka gyrinoides, Eleotris and Erotelis species. This is the first comprehensive report about the evolutionary relationships in members of the family Eleotridae, including multiloci and multispecies approaches. Therefore, we provided new insights about the phylogenetic position of some taxa absent in previous studies, such as the miniature genus Microphilypnus and a recently described species of Eleotris from South America.

This study presents an innovative pedagogical approach aimed at enhancing the teaching of robotics within the broader context of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education across diverse academic levels. The integration of mobile robotics kits into a dynamic STEM-focused curriculum offers students an immersive and hands-on learning experience, fostering programming skills, advanced problem-solving, critical thinking, and spatial awareness. The motivation behind this research lies in improving the effectiveness of robotics education by addressing existing gaps in current strategies. It aims to better prepare students for this rapidly evolving field’s dynamic challenges and opportunities. To achieve this, detailed protocols were formulated that not only facilitate student learning but also cater to teacher training and involvement. These protocols encompass code documentation and examples, providing tangible representations of the practical outcomes of the course. In addition to the presented curriculum, this paper introduces the developed methodology that strategically leverages 3D-printing technology. The primary focus of this approach is to create captivating add-ons and establish a versatile workspace, actively promoting heightened engagement and facilitating the acquisition of knowledge among students. The research involves the development of tailored laboratory protocols suited to various academic levels, employing a systematic methodology aimed at deepening students’ comprehension of STEM concepts. Furthermore, an adaptable infrastructure for laboratory protocols and in-class testing was developed. The efficacy of this teaching/learning methodology is evaluated through student surveys, ensuring its continuous improvement. These protocols are to be integrated into both the robotics courses and teacher-training initiatives. This study aims to contribute to the field by using a dynamic STEM-driven approach based on mobile robotics. It outlines a strategic vision for better-preparing students and educators in the ever-evolving landscape of robotics education demanded by Industry 4.0 technologies.

This study investigates the high contents of cementitious materials in Portland cement concrete and assesses the required (f’cr) and actual (σ) compressive strength of concrete specimens. A linear optimization technique identifies the required binder content to reach f’cr. Standard specifications have required concrete overdesign (OD) for decades, but few studies have evaluated the actual magnitude of OD from field data. The compressive strength of 958 cylinders prepared in the field represented 8200 m3 of ready-mixed concrete with 300 and 450 kg/m3 of cementitious are analyzed. The actual OD appears to be 7 to 21% higher than required. The required 28-day compressive strength of concrete was achieved in less than seven days. Therefore, the content of the cementitious materials could be reduced by 6 and 17% so that concrete could reach f’cr without cementitious overconsumption. Reducing cementitious content is recommended to improve construction quality and optimize resource utilization. Among the main reasons for this recommendation are the estimated substantial long-term savings, increased concrete durability and more rational use of natural resources required to build the structures.

Objective: This article describes the EMPOWER study, a controlled trial aiming to determine the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of an eHealth intervention to prevent common health problems and reduce presenteeism and absenteeism in the workplace. Intervention: The EMPOWER intervention spans universal, secondary and tertiary prevention and consists of an eHealth platform delivered via a website and a smartphone app designed to guide employees throughout different modules according to their specific profiles. Design: A stepped-wedge cluster randomized trial will be implemented in four countries (Finland, Poland, Spain and UK) with employees from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and public agencies. Companies will be randomly allocated in one of three groups with different times at which the intervention is implemented. The intervention will last 7 weeks. Employees will answer several questionnaires at baseline, pre- and post-intervention and follow-up. Outcome measures: The main outcome is presenteeism. Secondary outcomes include depression, anxiety, insomnia, stress levels, wellbeing and absenteeism. Analyses will be conducted at the individual level using the intention-to-treat approach and mixed models. Additional analyses will evaluate the intervention effects according to gender, country or type of company. Cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analyses [based on the use of quality-adjusted life-years (QALYS)] will consider a societal, employers’ and employees’ perspective.

More cement does not necessarily make better concrete or expedite construction schedules. In contrast, concrete with lower cementitious content can reach sufficient strength on time to avoid construction delays and last longer. Standard specifications require concrete overdesign (OD) for decades, but studies assessing the actual OD magnitudes are rare. This experimental study aimed to identify the required cementitious materials content (RCC) to meet the OD based on 958 compressive strength tests (σ) representing 8200 m3 of ready-mixed concrete for threshold buildings. The actual OD in commercial concrete appears to be 7 to 21% higher than required. The cementitious materials content should be reduced between 6 and 17% so that concrete can reach the required compressive strength (f’cr) without cement overconsumption. The additional overdesign (AOD) increased significantly as the specified compressive strength (f’c) increased, indicating that concrete producers can be more cautious when the f’cr is higher. Further research is needed to expand the range of cementitious contents and applications.

Background Although the association between body mass index (BMI), physical activity (PA) and motor competence (MC) has been widely investigated, the influence of different environmental contexts is not well defined. Aim To analyse the relationship between BMI, PA and MC and the moderating role of the environmental context. Subjects and methods A cross-sectional study was performed with 668 children (318 boys) aged 5–7 years (north-eastern district – Brazil). MC (Körper koordination test fur Kinder; KTK), BMI and PA (parent reporting) were assessed. To classify three contexts of the environment a variable was created based on the presence of a sports court in school and/or environment for play or sports practice out of school. This study aims to evaluate factors associated with sleep quality (overall and by domains) in adolescents. A cross-sectional study. This study was conducted with 1,296 first-year high school students from public schools in the Northern Region of the State of Pernambuco, Brazil. Demographic, socioeconomic, and behavioral data were obtained with a questionnaire. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) Body mass index (BMI) was calculated based on the ratio of weight and height squared. Multilevel linear and logistic regressions evaluated factors associated with sleep quality. We observed 53% of adolescents reported poor sleep quality. Adolescents at higher risk of clinical depression were 3.45 times more likely to have poor sleep quality (95%CI: 2.04; 5.81), and each additional unit in the social anxiety score presented 1.03 (95%CI: 1.01; 1.05) higher odds of adolescents having poor sleep quality. Adolescents with depressive symptoms had higher sleep latency, greater sleep disturbance, and greater daytime sleep dysfunction. Social anxiety was associated with sleep latency, sleep disturbance, and daytime sleep dysfunction. Higher risk of clinical depression was associated with all domains related to sleep quality. Negative health perception was associated with sleep disturbance, and physical inactivity was associated with daytime sleep dysfunction. Social anxiety and especially higher risk of clinical depression were determinants of poor sleep quality. Changes in sleep latency, sleep disturbance and daytime sleep dysfunction seems to be relevant to poor sleep quality.

ABSTRACT Despite its importance in biogeographical, ecological, and commercial terms, the fish fauna of the northern Brazilian coast is still poorly known, representing the least sampled portion of the Brazilian Exclusive Economic Zone. We collected Tonkin weakfish, Cynoscion similis specimens during extensive surveys of the northern Brazilian coast and concluded that C. similis is common in this region. While the species had not previously been reported for the northern Brazilian state of Pará, it may have been recorded in studies of industrial fisheries, being identified only as Cynoscion sp. or by the common name pescada negra. This reinforces the need for the reliable taxonomical identification of species, to guarantee the collection of accurate data on ecology and fisheries, and ultimately, support the development of effective conservation strategies. Here we provide additional morphological and molecular data to distinguish Cynoscion similis from the closely related Cynoscion jamaicensis, and other congeners.

Objectives: To examine longitudinal (seven years) relationships among cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2peak), body fatness, and motor competence. Method: Data were collected as part of the Copenhagen School Child Intervention Study (CoSCIS). Body fatness was assessed by the sum of four skinfolds. VO2peak was measured directly in a continuous running protocol. Motor competence was assessed using the Körperkoordinationtest für Kinder. This study used multilevel linear mixed models to evaluate the reciprocal longitudinal association between body fatness, VO2peak, and motor competence. All regressions were stratified by sex and adjusted by intervention and pubertal status. All variable coefficients were standardized. Results: A reciprocal relationship was observed between children's motor competence with body fatness and VO2peak at the seven‐year follow‐up (6–13 years of age). Children with higher motor competence at baseline had a lower risk of having higher body fatness (βboys = −0.45, 95% CI: −0.52 to −0.38; βgirls = −0.35, 95% CI: −0.42 to −0.28) and higher VO2peak (βboys = 0.34, 95% CI: 0.27–0.40; βgirls = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.20–0.33) during childhood. Alternatively, higher body fatness or lower levels of VO2peak at baseline were associated with lower motor competence during childhood. Conclusions: These data suggest motor competence, body fatness, and VO2peak demonstrate reciprocal relationships across childhood (6–13 years of age). Interventions addressing motor competence, cardiorespiratory fitness, and body fatness in early childhood are recommended, as intervention effects are likely to be enhanced because of the mutual reciprocal associations between these three variables. Resumo: Objetivos: Examinar as relações longitudinais (sete anos) entre a aptidão cardiorrespiratória (VO2 pico), gordura corporal e coordenação motora. Método: Os dados foram coletados como parte do Copenhagen School Child Intervention Study (CoSCIS). A gordura corporal foi avaliada pela soma de quatro dobras cutâneas. O VO2 pico foi medido diretamente em um protocolo de corrida contínua. A coordenação motora foi avaliada com o teste de coordenação corporal para crianças (Körperkoordination für Kinder – KTK). Usamos modelos lineares mistos multiníveis para avaliar a associação longitudinal recíproca entre a gordura corporal, o VO2 pico e a coordenação motora. Todas as regressões foram estratificadas por sexo e ajustadas para intervenção e estado puberal. Todos os coeficientes das variáveis foram padronizados. Resultados: Observamos uma relação recíproca entre a coordenação motora e a gordura corporal. As crianças com maior coordenação motora no início do estudo apresentaram menor risco de ter maior nível de gordura corporal (βmeninos = ‐0,45, IC de 95%: ‐0,52: ‐0,38; βmeninas = ‐0,35, IC de 95%: ‐0,42: ‐0,28) e maior VO2 pico (βmeninos = 0,34, IC de 95%: 0,27: 0,40; βmeninas = 0,27, IC de 95%: 0,20: 0,33). Por outro lado, maior nível de gordura corporal ou menores níveis de VO2 pico no início do estudo foram associados a menor coordenação motora durante a infância. Conclusões: Esses dados sugerem que a coordenação motora, gordura corporal e VO2 pico demonstram relações recíprocas durante a infância (6‐13 anos). São recomendadas intervenções que abordem a coordenação motora, a aptidão cardiorrespiratória e a gordura corporal na primeira infância, pois os efeitos da intervenção são provavelmente maiores devido às associações recíprocas mútuas entre essas três variáveis. Abstract Objective To evaluate the role of social support in the association between physical activity (PA) in its various domains and depressive symptoms in older adults. Methods This was a cross-sectional study involving 399 older adults seen at basic health units in the municipality of Recife, state of Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil. Linear regression was implemented using the forward method to assess the association between PA and its domains and depressive symptoms, as well as to test the possible moderating component of social support in this association. Results Of the total sample, 17.6% reported not practicing PA; 6.7% presented depressive symptoms, with a mean score of 1.59 points. A total of 18.6% of the older adults assessed reported not having social support. Older adults who did not practice total, transportation or domestic PA showed increased scores of depressive symptoms when compared to older adults who practiced PA in these domains. Older adults with social support also had fewer depressive symptoms. Practicing domestic, leisure and total PA, and/or having social support, decreased depressive symptoms in older adults. Having social support or practicing PA decreased depressive symptoms in older adults in a similar way. Conclusions Older adults with social support and who practiced PA, especially domestic and total PA, presented the lowest scores of depressive symptoms. The data showed the importance of providing elements to strengthen social support and PA practice in older adults living in poor communities as a strategy to prevent and reduce depressive symptoms.

To investigate the prevalence of alcohol consumption and the factors associated with binge drinking behavior among adolescents in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. A cross-sectional study with a probabilistic sample of 6,002 adolescents composed of students from public high schools in Pernambuco, Brazil, aged 14 to 19 years. Binge drinking behavior was used as a dependent variable. The following were evaluated as possible risk factors: sociodemographic variables (gender, maternal education, marital status, work, religion); indicators of psychosocial stress (feelings of sadness; suicidal thoughts; feelings of loneliness; friends) and health risk behaviors (physical inactivity; number of sexual partners; drug use; and involvement in fights in the last year). Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (OR). A total of 6,002 adolescents participated, with 75% reporting having consumed alcoholic beverages at least once in their lives. The prevalence of binge drinking in the last month was 17%. Adolescents without a religion had 81% (95%CI: 1.51; 2.16) more chance of consuming alcohol in excess. Adolescents who felt sad were 29% more likely to binge drink (95%CI: 1.08; 1.54), and adolescents who had already thought about suicide had 41% (95%CI: 1.13; 1.76) more chance to drink excessively. Adolescents who used illicit drugs had 4.6 times the chance (95%CI: 3.51; 6.17) of excessive drinking. Adolescents who engaged in four or more fights during the year were twice as likely to binge drink as those who did not fight (95%CI: 1.36; 2.88). The prevalence of alcohol consumption and binge drinking behavior was high. Sociodemographic factors, psychosocial stress and health risk behaviors were associated with binge drinking.

Abstract Data on the deep sea fishes found off the northern Brazilian coast are restricted to the results of the surveys of the RV Oregon, a research vessel of the North American National Marine Fisheries Service, and the REVIZEE Program. The REVIZEE Score-Norte Program focused on commercial fish species and natural resources with potential for exploitation on the continental shelf and slope off the northern coast of Brazil. In this sense, the REVIZEE Score-Norte Program generated little information on species of no commercial value, did not catalog its inventory in zoological collections, and did not publish species lists. Given this considerable knowledge gap on the deep-sea fish found off the North coast of Brazil, we compiled all the available data on the deep-sea fish of this region and also retrieved photographic records from the REVIZEE Score-Norte Program, including the PRODEMERSAL and PROTUNA projects. Considering the published records, specimens deposited in zoological collections, and the interpretation of photographic records, we compiled a list of 63 species of deep-sea fish from the North coast of Brazil. An additional 30 species were found in the published records from the PRODEMERSAL and PROTUNA, but were considered to be doubtful or pending confirmation.

Abstract Three species described and currently included in the genus Gobius from the Brazilian coast are herein discussed. Gobius uranoscopus Sauvage is regarded as junior synonym of Bathygobius soporator based on information on holotype deposited in Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris; G. silveiraemartinsi Ihering, known only in Rio Grande do Sul was erected based on a short description, and type material is not available, but I considered that it is junior synonym of Ctenogobius shufeldti; Gobius boekeri Ahl, 1931, described from the coast of Pará, Brazil, is a junior synonym of Gobionellus oceanicus, as both taxa are virtually identical in meristic characters and presumable morphometric differences that Ahl used to substantiate the validity of his new species actually fall into the morphometric range observed in G. oceanicus specimens and may be attributable to individual variation and to the image quality by Ahl’s original description.

Monitoring of anthropometric and physical fitness parameters in primary school children is important for the prevention of future health problems. Many of the existing test batteries that are useful for monitoring require expensive test materials, specialized test administrators, and a lot of space. This limits the usefulness of such tests for widespread use. The aim of this pilot study was to design and evaluate monitoring tools for anthropometrics and physical fitness tests in primary schools, called AUT FIT. The test battery consists of height, weight, and waist circumference measurement and eight fitness tests (6 min run, V sit-and-reach, jumping sideways, standing long jump, medicine ball throw, 4 × 10 m shuttle run, ruler drop, single leg stand). Data of 821 children aged 7 to 10 years were gathered. Most AUT FIT tests showed excellent test–retest and interrater reliability and were easy to implement. Criterion-related validity was evident by a strong correlation between physical education teacher rankings and rank scores for motor fitness. Nationwide implementation in the Austrian school system could be an important component for monitoring and improving the health and fitness of primary school children.

O presente artigo busca estudar a influência dos signos sonoros e visuais da glitch art no desenvolvimento de signos verbais no processo de comunicação nas tecnologias contemporâneas. Devido aos recursos pelos quais o processo de glitch art acontece, a linguagem verbal muitas vezes é sublimada na análise perceptual. Portanto, a presente pesquisa tenta entender como o processo de glitch art influencia nos diferentes tipos de linguagens perante a comunicação nas tecnologias digitais comunicacionais atuais; iniciando uma vertente de estudos que entenda o processo de glitch art como pertinente a uma multiplicidade de linguagens possíveis nessas tecnologias citadas. Para isso o estudo tem base em um levantamento bibliográfico pautado em Rosa Menkan para a reflexão sobre a natureza, as etapas e os limites das imagens geradas pela degeneração digital e ainda uma reflexão feita a partir da obra Matrizes de linguagem e pensamento: sonora, visual, verbal: aplicações na hipermídia de Lucia Santaella para demonstrar que, a partir da teoria peirceana, é possível entender que a linguagem sonora na glitch art é pautada em uma esteticidade que é corporificada em signos visuais que também passam por um processo de ressignificação e incorporam a lógica da verbalidade. Due to the resources for which the process of glitch art happens, verbal language is often sublimated in the perceptual analysis. Therefore, this research tries to understand how the process of glitch art influences in different languages before the communication in the current communication digital technologies; starting a strand of studies to understand the process of glitch art as relevant to a multitude of possible languages in these technologies mentioned. For this, the study is based on a literature review guided by Rosa Menkan for reflection on the nature, the steps and the limits of the images generated by digital degeneration and also a reflection on the work Matrizes de linguagem e pensamento: sonora, visual, verbal: aplicações na hipermídia by Lucia Santaella to show that, from Peirce’s theory, it is possible to understand that the sound language in the glitch art is guided by an aesthetic that is embodied in visual signs that also undergo a process of resignification and incorporate the logic of verbality. ABSTRACT The sciaenid genus Bairdiella comprises a group of relatively small fishes found in inshore waters and estuaries of the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific. Despite recent analyses of the phylogenetic relationships of Bairdiella, there has been no comprehensive revision of the alpha taxonomy of the species of the genus. Bairdiella ronchus from the western Atlantic, has a complex taxonomic history, with four junior synonyms recognized. Based on morphological and molecular evidence, this study indicates that B. ronchus represents a species complex. The species is therefore redescribed and its geographic range is redefined. Bairdiella veraecrucis, which is currently recognized as a junior synonym of B. ronchus, is revalidated, and a new species of the genus is described from the Atlantic coast of Brazil. Finally, inferences are made on the diversity and biogeography of the B. ronchus species complex.

Based on the full-bodied scientific consensus that climate warming is occurring on Earth, significant environmental and economic benefits may be obtained from cement content reduction in concrete, naming reduction in CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and construction costs. In contrast, standard limestone aggregate may experience increase in mining rate. The objective of this study was to propose the reduction of cement content in concrete framed by aggregate optimization as a viable alternative to reduce environmental effects from the cement industry. It was concluded that the higher the concrete volume in construction, the more environmental benefit can be obtained by reducing cement content in concrete. A 25 % cement reduction in a concrete pavement led to a decrease of 80.000 tons in CO2 emission, while a seaport construction displayed a decrease of 17.000 tons of CO2. The higher the designed cement per volume of concrete, the more budget savings in case of reduction in cement content. Port construction presented a reduction of 20,10 USD per m3 of concrete in cement costs against 11,04 USD per m3 in pavements. A 11,5 % increase in aggregate mining is expected when concrete contains less cement in its composition, targeting South Florida (U.S.A.) quarries.

Embora os efeitos sejam pequenos, algumas intervenções para a redução do comportamento sedentário em jovens têm sido bem sucedidas. O objetivo do estudo foi verificar a efetividade de uma intervenção de base escolar para promoção da atividade física e hábitos alimentares saudáveis sobre indicadores de tempo de tela em escolares. Trata-se de um estudo de intervenção randomizado e controlado com estudantes (15 a 24 anos) do ensino médio do período noturno de escolas públicas de duas capitais brasileiras: Florianópolis e Recife. A coleta de dados foi realizada no início (março) e ao final (dezembro) do ano letivo de 2006, mediante aplicação de um questionário. Os estudantes que relataram despender duas ou mais horas por dia assistindo televisão ou jogando videogame/usando o computador em dias de semana ou em dias do fim de semana foram considerados expostos ao tempo de tela. Estas análises foram conduzidas mediante utilização de regressão logística. Dos 2.155 escolares incluídos na linha de base, 989 foram avaliados no período pós-intervenção. Observou-se que o grupo intervenção reduziu significativamente a exposição ao tempo de videogame / computador nos dias de fim de semana quando comparado ao grupo controle (29,8% vs 35,6%, respectivamente; p=0,004). Após ajustamento para potenciais fatores de confusão, verificou-se que a intervenção não teve efeito significativo na redução da exposição ao tempo de tela nos escolares investigados. O modelo de intervenção adotado no projeto Saúde na Boa não foi efetivo em reduzir o tempo de tela de estudantes do ensino médio.

A few studies have proposed the number of hours/day and the number of days of monitoring that should be completed to obtain good quality accelerometry data for preschool children. The aim of this study was to analyze how the estimates of physical activity levels and sample profiles (demographic and anthropometric data) vary according the use of different criteria to define valid monitoring periods. Children (n=180) aged three to five years were randomly selected among participants from a longitudinal study performed in Recife, Brazil. Children wore a GT1M Actigraph accelerometer on the right waist during a period of seven days, including the weekend days, using 15 s epochs. A total of 176 children were included in the study (52.8% boys; mean age of 4.3 years [s=0.8]). Using the criterion of 10+ hours/day of wearing time to define a valid monitoring day, 67.0% (n=118) and 36.9% (n=65) of the children showed 3+ and 5+ valid days, respectively. When the criterion of 5+ hours/day was used, the time spent in moderate activity was approximately 10 minutes shorter than when the criterion of 10+ hours/day was used. The criterion of 10+ hours/day for defining a valid monitoring day leads to a sample size reduction and the criterion of 5+ hours/day underestimates the moderate activity level.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a prevalência e a associação entre inatividade física no lazer e comportamento sedentário com a percepção negativa de estresse em industriários. Para tanto, 1910 trabalhadores foram selecionados mediante amostragem em dois estágios entre os industriários pernambucanos. Dados foram obtidos mediante uso de questionário previamente validado (Estilo de Vida e Hábitos de Lazer do Trabalhador da Indústria). Percepção negativa de estresse foi referida por 13,2% e 45,2% dos trabalhadores eram fisicamente inativos no lazer. A proporção de sujeitos que relatou despender > 2 horas/dia assistindo televisão foi de 31,8% e 57,4%, respectivamente, em dias da semana e no final de semana. Observou-se, entre os homens, uma associação positiva entre o tempo de assistência à televisão em dias de semana e a percepção negativa de estresse. Conclui-se que a exposição a comportamento sedentário nos homens está associada à maior chance de percepção negativa de estresse.

OBJETIVO: Traduzir e adaptar culturalmente o questionário Rowe para ser utilizado no Brasil. MÉTODOS: O processo de tradução e adaptação cultural envolveu inicialmente as etapas de tradução, síntese, retro-tradução e revisão pelo Grupo de Tradução. Foi então criada uma versão pré-final do questionário, sendo os domínios Estabilidade e Função aplicados a 20 pacientes que sofreram luxação anterior do ombro e o domínio Mobilidade aplicado a 20 profissionais da saúde. RESULTADOS: Foi observada dificuldade de entendimento de algumas expressões do questionário por parte dos pacientes, as quais foram substituídas por termos mais fáceis de serem compreendidos. Todos os profissionais da saúde compreenderam a tradução do domínio Mobilidade. Dessa forma, o questionário foi reaplicado a outros 20 pacientes, sendo compreendido por todos os sujeitos avaliados. CONCLUSÃO: Após um processo criterioso de tradução e adaptação cultural, foi possível obter a versão brasileira do questionário Rowe. METHODS: The translation and cross-cultural adaptation process initially involved the steps of translation, synthesis, back-translation and revision by the Translation Group. The pre-final version of the questionnaire was then created. The Stability and Function fields were applied to 20 patients with anterior shoulder luxation, and the Mobility field was applied to 20 health professionals. RESULTS: It was found that some of the patients had difficulty understanding some of the expressions of the questionnaire, so these were replaced with terms that were easier to understand. All health professionals understood the translation of the Mobility field. The altered questionnaire was then reapplied to another 20 patients, and this time it was understood by all the assessed subjects. CONCLUSION: After a careful process of translation and cultural adaptation, a definitive version of the Rowe questionnaire was obtained in Brazilian Portuguese. OBJETIVO: Avaliar o resultado funcional de pacientes com lesão do bíceps distal, operados pela técnica da minidupla via de Mayo, com seguimento mínimo de seis meses pós-cirurgia através de dinamometria digital isocinética, goniometria e escores subjetivos a fim de estabelecer padrões objetivos e subjetivos de melhora e discutir a efetividade do procedimento. MÉTODOS: Foram avaliados nove pacientes submetidos à cirurgia para tratamento de lesão do bíceps distal através de dinamometria digital com Cybex® utilizando velocidade angular de 30°/s, cinco repetições e 120°/s, 15 repetições, comparando com o lado não lesado. Foram utilizados também DASH (Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand), MayoElbow Score e goniometria convencional. RESULTADOS: A dinamometria digital mostrou que à velocidade angular de 30°/s com cinco repetições a flexão apresentou déficit médio de 9,6% e a supinação déficit médio de -28,97%. Com velocidade angular de 120°/s com 15 repetições, a flexão teve déficit médio de 4,43%; a supinação de -24,1%. CONCLUSÕES: A Perda de flexão segue o padrão já demonstrado na literatura; entretanto, em nossa série houve ganho de força para supinação, possivelmente devido ao protocolo rígido de reabilitação. A técnica empregada neste estudo mostrou-se segura, de baixo custo e com poucas complicações, apresentando bons resultados funcionais.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the functional outcome among patients with distal biceps injuries who were operated using the Mayo mini-double route technique, with a minimum follow-up of six months after surgery, through digital isokinetic dynamometry, goniometry and subjective scores in order to establish objective and subjective improvement patterns and discuss the effectiveness of the procedure. METHODS: Nine patients who underwent surgery to treat distal biceps injury were evaluated by means of Cybex digital dynamometry using an angular velocity of 30°/s with five repetitions and 120°/s with 15 repetitions, in comparison with the uninjured side. DASH (Disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand), Mayo elbow score and conventional goniometry were also used. RESULTS: Digital dynamometer showed that using the angular velocity of 30°/s with five repetitions, there was an average flexion deficit of 9.6% and an average supination deficit of -28.97%. Using an angular velocity of 120°/s with fifteen repetitions, the average flexion deficit was 4.43% and the average supination deficit was -24.1%. CONCLUSIONS: The loss of flexion followed the pattern already shown in the literature. However, in our series, there were supination strength gains, possibly due to the strict rehabilitation protocol. The technique used in this study was safe and low-cost, with few complications and good functional results.

OBJETIVO: Realizar a tradução e adaptação cultural do questionário Rowe modificado para atletas arremessadores. MÉTODOS: O processo de tradução e adaptação cultural envolveu as etapas de tradução, síntese, retrotradução e revisão pelo grupo de tradução. Foi então criada uma versão pré-final do questionário, sendo os domínios "função" e "dor" aplicados a 20 atletas que realizam movimentos de arremesso e que sofreram lesões do tipo SLAP no ombro dominante, e os domínios "teste de compressão ativa e teste de apreensão anterior" e "mobilidade" foram aplicados a 15 profissionais da saúde. RESULTADOS: Durante o processo de tradução foram realizadas pequenas alterações no questionário com o objetivo de adaptá-lo à cultura brasileira, sem alterar a semântica e o conceito idiomático originalmente descritos. CONCLUSÕES: O questionário foi facilmente compreendido pelos sujeitos do estudo, sendo possível obter a versão brasileira do questionário Rowe modificado para avaliar a capacidade funcional de atletas arremessadores que passaram por tratamento cirúrgico da lesão do tipo SLAP.OBJECTIVE: Study was to translate and culturally adapt the modified Rowe score for overhead athletes. METHODS: The translation and cultural adaptation process initially involved the stages of transla tion, synthesis, back-translation, and revision by the Translation Group. It was than created the pre-final version of the question naire, being the areas "function" and "pain" applied to 20 athletes that perform overhead movements and that suffered SLAP lesions in the dominant shoulder and the areas "active compression test and anterior apprehension test" and "motion" were applied to 15 health professionals. RESULTS: During the translation process there were made little modifications in the questionnaire in order to adapt it to Brazilian culture, without changing the semantics and the idiomatic concept originally described. CONCLUSIONS: The questionnaire was easily understood by the subjects of the study, being possible to obtain the Brazilian version of the modified Rowe score for over head athletes that underwent surgical treatment of the SLAP lesion.

O objetivo deste artigo foi analisar a associação entre condutas de risco à saúde (tabagismo, consumo de bebidas alcoólicas e uso de drogas) e indicadores de estresse psicossocial em adolescentes estudantes do ensino médio. A pesquisa foi realizada com amostra constituída por 4.210 adolescentes estudantes de escolas públicas do Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil. O Global School-based Student Health Survey foi usado para coletar dados pessoais (demográficos e socioeconômicos) e comportamentais, e para obter medidas dos indicadores de estresse psicossocial (variáveis desfecho). Foram observadas prevalências de tristeza, sentimento de solidão, pensamento de suicídio, dificuldade para dormir devido à preocupação e planos de suicídio. Tabagismo, consumo de bebidas alcoólicas e uso de drogas foi relatado, respectivamente, por 7,7%, 30,3% e 6,9%. As prevalências de indicadores de estresse psicossocial foram maiores entre as moças, e as prevalências de exposição a condutas de risco à saúde foram maiores entre os rapazes. Concluiu-se com o estudo que o uso de drogas está diretamente associado ao pensamento e plano de suicídio e, entre as moças, o consumo de bebidas alcoólicas foi um fator associado ao estresse psicossocial.The purpose of this article was to examine the association between health risk behaviors (tobacco, alcohol, and drug use) and psychosocial distress indicators among high school students. The sample consisted of 4,210 adolescent students from public schools in Pernambuco State, Brazil. The Global School-based Student Health Survey was used to collect personal (demographic and socioeconomic) and behavioral data and to obtain measures of psychosocial distress indicators (outcome variables). Prevalence rates were observed for sadness, loneliness, suicidal ideation, sleeplessness due to worries, and suicidal planning. Self-reported prevalence rates for tobacco, alcohol, and drug use were 7.7%, 30.3%, and 6.9%. Psychosocial distress was more prevalent among girls, while health risk behaviors were more common among boys. The study concludes that drug use is directly associated with suicidal ideation and planning, and that among girls, alcohol consumption was associated with psychosocial distress.

OBJETIVOS: identificar a prevalência e fatores associados a indicadores negativos de saúde mental em adolescentes. MÉTODOS: utilizou-se um questionário previamente validado para coletar dados de 4.207 adolescentes (14-19 anos) estudantes do ensino médio, selecionados através de amostragem por conglomerados em dois estágios. RESULTADOS: as prevalências de tristeza, sentimento de solidão, pensamento de suicídio, dificuldade para dormir devido à preocupação e planos de suicídio foram, respectivamente, 29,7%, 15,8%, 11,2%, 10,0% e 7,8%. A prevalência de todos os indicadores foi superior entre as moças, sendo a tristeza o indicador mais prevalente. Identificou-se que a cor da pele não foi um fator associado à ocorrência dos indicadores negativos de saúde mental, enquanto não morar com os pais apresentou associação significativa com sentimento de solidão e pensamento em suicídio. CONCLUSÕES: a prevalência de sentimento de solidão e de tristeza é alta e as moças representam um subgrupo de maior risco em relação a todos os indicadores negativos de saúde mental.OBJECTIVES: to identify the prevalence of and factors associated with negative mental health indicators among adolescents. METHODS: a previously validated questionnaire was used to gather data on 4,207 adolescents (aged between 14 and 19 years) attending high school, selected by way of conglomerate sampling in two stages. RESULTS: the prevalence of sadness, feelings of loneliness, thoughts of suicide, difficulty sleeping because of anxiety, and plans to commit suicide was 29.7%, 15.8%, 11.2%, 10.0% and 7.8% respectively. The prevalence for all indicators was higher among girls, with sadness being the most prevalent indicator. It was identified that skin-color was not a factor associated with the occurrence of negative mental health indicators, while not living with parents showed a significant degree of association with feeling of loneliness and thoughts of suicide. CONCLUSIONS: the prevalence of feelings of loneliness and sadness is high and girls are a subgroup that is more vulnerable to all the negative mental health indicators.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a força muscular de rotação interna, externa e elevação dos ombros sintomáticos comparado aos assintomáticos, associando a força muscular à função da articulação. MÉTODOS: Quarenta e oito indivíduos com diagnóstico de SIO unilateral foram avaliados quanto a força muscular isométrica do ombro sintomático e assintomático (utilizando um dinamômetro isométrico manual), além de serem avaliados quanto a função utilizando a escala de Constant-Murley. Os indivíduos foram distribuídos em 2 grupos: grupo 1 = 35 a 49 anos; grupo 2 = 50 a 65 anos. RESULTADOS: Foi encontrada redução da força de rotação interna, externa e elevação no ombro sintomático, comparado ao lado assintomáticos (p< 0,0001), mas não foi observada redução da força de rotação medial nos sujeitos do grupo 1. Também observamos que a força muscular é diretamente proporcional a função do ombro, onde indivíduos com pouca força do manguito rotador apresentam menor função. CONCLUSÃO: A SIO causa diminuição da força muscular de rotação interna, externa e elevação comparado ao lado assintomático, além de causar diminuição da função do ombro. A redução da função é proporcional a diminuição da força muscular do manguito rotador. Nível de Evidência III, Estudo analítico.

OBJETIVO: Analisar a confiabilidade e validade de um dinamômetro isométrico modificado (DIM) na avaliação dos déficits no desempenho muscular dos extensores e flexores do joelho em indivíduos normais e com reconstrução do LCA. MÉTODOS: Foram convidados 60 voluntários do sexo masculino a participar do estudo, divididos em três grupos de 20 indivíduos: grupo controle (GC), grupo com reconstrução do LCA com tendão patelar (GTP) e grupo com reconstrução do LCA com tendões flexores (GTF). Todos os indivíduos realizaram teste isométrico dos extensores e flexores do joelho no DIM; os déficits de força muscular coletados foram comparados posteriormente com os testes realizados no Biodex System 3 operando no modo isométrico e isocinético nas velocidades de 60º/s e 180º /s. Foram realizados cálculos de correlação intraclasse ICC para avaliar a confiabilidade do DIM, cálculos da especificidade, sensibilidade e coeficiente de concordância Kappa, respectivamente, para avaliar a validade do DIM em detectar déficits musculares e comparações intragrupos e intergrupos na realização dos quatro testes de força utilizando-se do método ANOVA. RESULTADOS: O DIM demonstrou excelente confiabilidade teste-reteste e validade na avaliação do desempenho muscular dos extensores e flexores do joelho. Na comparação intergrupos. o GTP demonstrou déficits significativamente maiores dos extensores comparados com os grupos GC e GTF. CONCLUSÃO: Dinamômetros isométricos conectados em equipamentos de mecanoterapia podem ser uma alternativa para coletar dados referentes a déficits no desempenho muscular dos extensores e flexores do joelho em indivíduos com reconstrução do LCA.OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of a modified isometric dynamometer (MID) in performance deficits of the knee extensor and flexor muscles in normal individuals and in those with ACL reconstructions. METHODS: Sixty male subjects were invited to participate of the study, being divided into three groups with 20 subjects each: control group (GC), group of individuals with ACL reconstruction with patellar tendon graft (GTP, and group of individuals with ACL reconstruction with hamstrings graft (GTF). All individuals performed isometric tests in the MID, muscular strength deficits collected were subsequently compared to the tests performed on the Biodex System 3 operating in the isometric and isokinetic mode at speeds of 60º/s and 180o/s. Intraclass ICC correlation calculations were done in order to assess MID reliability, specificity, sensitivity and Kappa's consistency coefficient calculations, respectively, for assessing the MID's validity in detecting muscular deficits and intra-and intergroup comparisons when performing the four strength tests using the ANOVA method. RESULTS: The modified isometric dynamometer (MID) showed excellent reliability and good validity in the assessment of the performance of the knee extensor and flexor muscles groups. In the comparison between groups, the GTP showed significantly greater deficits as compared to the GTF and GC groups. CONCLUSION: Isometric dynamometers connected to mechanotherapy equipments could be an alternative option to collect data concerning performance deficits of the extensor and flexor muscles groups of the knee in subjects with ACL reconstruction.

OBJETIVO: Analisar a correlação entre os déficits musculares dos extensores e flexores do joelho através do pico de torque isocinético com os testes de salto monopodal, frouxidão ligamentar pós-operatória e questionário de função em indivíduos normais e indivíduos submetidos à reconstrução do LCA com enxerto autólogo do tendão patelar e dos tendões flexores. MÉTODOS: Foram recrutados 60 indivíduos, formando três grupos: 20 indivíduos sem lesões no joelho (grupo GC) e dois grupos de 20 indivíduos submetidos à reconstrução do LCA com tendão patelar (grupo GTP) ou tendões flexores (grupo GTF). RESULTADOS: Os resultados demonstraram correlação significativa entre déficits no pico de torque e testes funcionais no torque extensor nos grupos GTF e GC. Não foram observadas correlações significativas entre frouxidão ligamentar pós-operatória e questionário de Lysholm com os testes de salto e déficits no pico de torque. Em relação à diferença entre os grupos, foi observado que o grupo GTP demonstrou maior déficit do torque extensor, menor pontuação no questionário de Lysholm e maior percentagem dos indivíduos com índice de simetria entre membros (ISM) < 90% em ambos os testes de salto monopodal quando comparado com os demais grupos. CONCLUSÃO: Na avaliação funcional de pacientes submetidos à reconstrução do LCA, não é aconselhável a utilização de apenas um instrumento de medida, porque a correlação significativa entre déficit no pico de torque, questionários de função, frouxidão ligamentar e testes de salto não é encontrada em todos os grupos testados.OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between deficits in the isokinetic peak torque of the knee extensors and flexors with hop tests, postoperative knee laxity and functional scores in normal and ACL- reconstructed subjects with patellar tendon and hamstring tendon autografts. METHODS: Sixty male subjects were enrolled and subdivided into three groups: Twenty subjects without knee injuries (GC group) and two groups of 20 subjects submitted to ACL reconstruction with patellar tendon (GTP group) and hamstrings autograft (GTF group). RESULTS: The results showed significant correlation between knee extensors peak torque and performance in the hop tests for GTF and GC groups. There are no significantly correlations between post op knee laxity and Lysholm score compared with the hop tests and peak torque deficits. Concerning the differences between groups, the GTP group showed greater peak torque deficits in knee extensors, worst Lysholm scores and higher percentage of individuals with lower limb symmetry index (ISM) < 90% in both hop tests when compared to the other two groups. CONCLUSION: It is not recommendable to use only one measurement instrument for the functional evaluation of ACL-reconstructed patients, because significant correlation between peak torque, subject's functional score, knee laxity and hop tests were not observed in all groups.

São apresentadas novas informações sobre a distribuição geográfica de algumas espécies de peixes teleósteos que ocorrem na costa brasileira, incluindo duas espécies que nunca haviam sido registradas em nossas águas. Os serranídeos Pseudogramma gregoryi (assinalado da Flórida à Venezuela) e Plectranthias garrupellus (registrado da Carolina do Norte ao Caribe) foram encontrados, respectivamente, na costa do Ceará e na costa sudeste-sul do Brasil. São aqui mencionados e discutidos os dois primeiros registros do gênero Caristius (Caristiidae) no Brasil, bem como os primeiros registros na costa sudeste-sul do Brasil das espécies Enchelycore carychroa (Muraenidae), e Chilomycterus antillarum (Diodontidae), e da espécie Neobythites brasiliensis(Bythitidae) no nordeste do Brasil. É também assinalada a ocorrência mais setentrional do pargo Calamus mu (Sparidae), uma espécie até então circunscrita à região entre o Espírito Santo e São Paulo, e são discutidos os registros adicionais de Bascanichthys paulensis (Ophichthidae), Nezumia aequalis (Macrouridae), Antigonia combatia (Caproidae) e Notolycodes schmidti (Zoarcidae) na costa brasileira.New data of the geographical distribution of several species of teleost fishes assigned to the Brazilian coast, including some species never previously recorded, are presented. The serranids Pseudogramma gregoryi (recorded from Florida to Venezuela), and Plectranthias garrupellus (recorded from North Carolina to Caribbean Sea) were found, respectively, in coast of Ceará and in southeastern and southern Brazilian coast. The two sole records the family Caristiidae in Brazilian coast are mentioned and discussed, and are given herein the first accounts of the species Enchelycore carychroa (Muraenidae) and Chilomycterus antillarum (Diodontidae) from southeastern Brazilian coast, and of Neobythites brasiliensis (Bythitidae) from northeastern Brazilian coast. We have also discussed the northernmost occurrence of Calamus mu (Sparidae), a species formerly circumscribed to the region between Espírito Santo and São Paulo, and additional records of Bascanichthys paulensis (Ophichthidae), Nezumia aequalis (Macrouridae), Antigonia combatia (Caproidae) and Notolycodes schmitti (Zoarcidae).

Os objetivos deste estudo foram avaliar a translação anterior da tíbia (TAT), pico de torque isométrico e atividade eletromiográfica de indivíduos com lesão do ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA) realizando contrações isométricas em cadeia cinética aberta no ângulo de 30º de flexão do joelho. Foram avaliados 20 voluntários do sexo masculino (31.1 ± 7.45 anos) com ruptura completa do LCA e 20 indivíduos controle (22.2 ± 3.15 anos). Eletromiografia de superfície, artrômetro KT 1000 e um Dinamômetro isocinético foram utilizados para avaliar a atividade EMG do Quadríceps e Isquiotibiais, TAT passiva e ativa e pico de torque isométrico respectivamente durante três contrações isométricas voluntária máxima a 30 º de flexão do joelho. Os resultados demonstraram que a TAT passiva e ativa é significativamente maior em joelhos com lesão do LCA comparado ao joelho contralateral, lado dominante e não dominante do grupo controle, porém os valores da TAT ativa foram menores do que a passiva. Não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os grupos na atividade EMG do quadríceps e isquiotibiais e no pico de torque isométrico produzido durante o tarefa motora requisitada. Os resultados deste estudo demonstram que indivíduos com lesão do LCA e indivíduos controle se comportam de maneira similar em relação a pico de torque isométrico e controle motor embora a artrocinemática da articulação tibiofemural mostrou-se diferente em joelhos lesados.The aim of this study was to evaluated the anterior tibial translation (ATT), isometric peak torque and EMG activity in individuals with acl rupture performing isometric contraction in open kinetic chain in angle that provoke substantial ATT. It was evaluated 20 male subjects (31.1± 7.45 years) with acl total rupture and 20 control subjects (22.2 ± 3.15 years). Electromyography, arthrometric kt 1000 and isokinetic dynamometry was used to evaluate the quadriceps and hamstrings EMG activity, passive and active ATT and isometric peak torque respectively during three maximum isometric voluntary contractions at 30 degrees of knee flexion. The results demonstrated that the passive and active ATT is significant greater in knees with acl rupture compared with the contralateral knees, dominant and non dominant knees of the control group. However the active ATT values were greater than the passive ATT. There is no statistic significant differences between groups concerning quadriceps and hamstring EMG activity and in the peak torque produced during the motor task requested. The results of this study demonstrated that individuals with acl rupture had similar behavior compared with normal knees in relation to isometric peak torque and motor control despite the different arthrokinematics of the tibiofemural joint observed in injured knees.

The presence of an endemic fauna in subtropical western Atlantic has been reported since the nineteenth century, but only in the last fifty years the processes that determined the distribution of organisms in this region have been studied. In this paper, hypothesis about the processes of diversification and the origin of this fauna between the coasts of Rio de Janeiro and Argentina, a region usually referred as Argentinean Province, are reviewed and discussed. Although previous authors have stated that speciation of this fauna was driven by relatively recent marine transgression/regression cycles, it was observed from more recent studies that the origin of endemic taxa in this province would have been older and in result of different processes, particularly dispersal from the eastern South Pacific. Problems in the recognition of endemic taxa and areas of endemism are presented and suggestions for future studies are provided.

Purpose: Previous literature has demonstrated the mediating role of adiposity in the association between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and cardiometabolic risk as well as the potential role of CRF in attenuating the adverse consequences associated with excess weight. This study aimed to evaluate the mediating role of CRF and adiposity in the possible association with cardiometabolic risk. Method: Observational 3-year longitudinal study that included 420 children and adolescents (10.50 [2.05] y of age at baseline; 56.2% girls). Body mass index (BMI) was calculated, and CRF was evaluated using field assessments. A clustered cardiometabolic risk score (cMetS) was calculated from glucose, systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio, and triglycerides z scores. Analyses evaluated the mediating role of BMI in the association between CRF and cMetS as well as whether CRF mediated the association between BMI and cMetS. Results: BMI at baseline was directly associated with the cMetS at follow-up (0.102; 95% confidence interval, 0.020 to 0.181), independently of CRF, whereas CRF was only indirectly associated with cMetS at follow-up through BMI (−0.036; 95% confidence interval, −0.070 to −0.009), meaning that the association between CRF and cMetS was explained via the mediation role of BMI. There is a lack of questionnaires specifically designed to assess social isolation in adolescents. We developed and validated a self‐report measure of social isolation in adolescents, the Social Isolation Questionnaire (QIS). A literature review on social isolation and mental health in adolescents indicated 20 questions to form QIS. Two cross‐sectional surveys with 48 and 1135 adolescents, respectively, evaluated the reproducibility and validity of QIS. The Bland–Altman plot did not indicate a systematic difference between measurements 15 days apart. Bartlett's sphericity test verified a correlation between the questions and the Kaiser‐Meyer‐Olkin test showed good adequacy (.896) to the factor analysis. Exploratory factor analysis suggested the exclusion of three questions (loading factors <0.3), and eigenvalues (4.9–0.8) indicated that the questionnaire should be composed of three factors (dimensions). The Cronbach's alpha indicated high internal consistency of the 17 questions (0.850 overall; Dimensions: 0.815 'feeling of loneliness'; 0.760 'friendship'; and, 0.680 'Family support'). The QIS score ranged from 0 to 131 (maximum social isolation score). The correlation between QIS and depressive symptoms (r =.543) indicated the construct validity of QIS. We evaluated QIS in the Portuguese version, thus translation and cultural adaptation are necessary to evaluate the questionnaire in other settings. We constructed and validated the QIS questionnaire, a self‐administered questionnaire to assess social isolation in adolescents, composed of three dimensions; feelings of loneliness, friendship and family support.
