La endometriosis es una condición médica que padecen entre el 6-11% de las mujeres. Esta condición afecta a muchas áreas de la vida de las personas que la padecen, lo que hace que su calidad de vida disminuya. En el presente trabajo, se propone una intervención para mejorar la calidad de vida de estas mujeres basada en estudios con resultados positivos llevados a cabo previamente, incluyendo también otras técnicas eficaces para conseguir una intervención más completa. Dentro de esta intervención, tienen un papel importante la intervención en Aceptación y Compromiso, la psicoeducación en diversas áreas, el trabajo en autoestima o la intervención en el duelo por la posible infertilidad asociada, entre otros. Esta propuesta tiene una duración de 14 sesiones repartidas en 7 semanas., Endometriosis is a medical condition that impact to a 6 and 11% of the female population. This condition affects to several areas of the life, what results in a deterioration of the quality of life of those who suffer it. In this work, it´s proposed an intervention with the aim of improving the areas of quality of life that are affected based on previous studies that have shown favourable results, adding other techniques that have shown efficacy in order to achieve a more complete intervention. The techniques used in this intervention that have an important role are such as Acceptance and Compromise Therapy, psychoeducation in different areas, the improvement of self-esteem or the intervention of the mourning due to the possibility of infertility among others. The vast ocean holds many unexplored organisms with unique adaptive features that enable them to thrive in their environment. The secretion of fluorescent proteins is one of them, with reports on the presence of such compounds in marine annelids being scarce. The intertidal Eulalia sp. is an example. The worm secretes copious amounts of mucus, that when purified and concentrated extracts, yield strong fluorescence under UV light. Emission has two main maxima, at 400 nm and at 500 nm, with the latter responsible for the blue–greenish fluorescence. Combining proteomics and transcriptomics techniques, we identified ubiquitin, peroxiredoxin, and 14-3-3 protein as key elements in the mucus. Fluorescence was found to be mainly modulated by redox status and pH, being consistently upheld in extracts prepared in Tris-HCl buffer with reducing agent at pH 7 and excited at 330 nm. One of the proteins associated with the fluorescent signal was localized in secretory cells in the pharynx. The results indicate that the secretion of fluorescent proteinaceous complexes can be an important defense against UV for this dweller. Additionally, the internalization of fluorescent complexes by ovarian cancer cells and modulation of fluorescence of redox status bears important considerations for biotechnological application of mucus components as markers. publishersversion published

This paper reports the use of a self-assembling hydrogel as a delivery vehicle for the Parkinson’s disease drug L-DOPA. Based on a two-component combination of an L-glutamine amide derivative and benzaldehyde, this gel has very soft rheological properties and self-healing characteristics. It is demonstrated that the gel can be formulated to encapsulate L-DOPA. These drug-loaded gels are characterized, and rapid release of the drug is obtained from the gel network. This drug-loaded hydrogel has appropriate rheological characteristics to be amenable for injection. We therefore tested this system as a vehicle for nasal delivery of neurologically-active drugs – a drug delivery strategy that can potentially avoid first pass liver metabolism and bypass the blood-brain barrier, hence enhancing brain uptake. In vitro tests indicated that the gel has biocompatibility with respect to nasal epithelial cells. Furthermore, animal studies demonstrated that the nasal delivery of a gel loaded with 3H-labelled L-DOPA out-performed a simple intranasal L-DOPA solution. This was attributed to longer residence times of the gel in the nasal cavity resulting in increased blood and brain concentrations. It was demonstrated that the likely routes of brain penetration of intranasally-delivered L-DOPA gel involve the trigeminal and olfactory nerves connecting to other brain regions.

The ocean’s vastness holds still many unexplored organisms with unique adaptive features that enable them to thrive in their environment. Eulalia viridis is one of them. This uncanny bright green worm is a predatory marine Polychaeta of the rocky intertidal that lacks jaws, but it is equipped with a toxin-containing mucus that enables predating larger invertebrates from which soft tissue is extracted through suction. Motivated by the high-value of toxins as bioreactives and by the European Union’s ambitions of leading the Blue Growth Strategy, for which Portugal’s vast EEZ offers high perspectives; a case-study to explore the biotechnological potential of this species was undertaken. The worm’s microanatomy revealed key adaptations for feeding such as special sensorial papillae and cells responsible for the secretion of mucus and toxins. Whole-transcriptome sequencing and toxicity assays yielded a complex pattern of proteinaceous toxins and enzymes with several functions: tissue permeabilization, coagulation impairment and blocking of neuromuscular activity. The main neurotoxins, “phyllotoxins”, found to be cysteine-rich proteins, act as immobilising agents against mussels and other invertebrate prey and are delivered by contact with mucus. In turn, higher toxicity towards ovarian cancer cell line (A2780) than normal cells, involved cytotoxic and cytostatic properties through cell cycle arrest and extrinsic programmed cell death. Several proteins involved in these effects were identified by combining transcriptomics and proteomics. The worm’s mucosecretions also hold internalisable proteinaceous complexes that display fluorescent properties and whose emission is reversibly switched by redox status. Altogether, the features found in the secretions of a single species disclose the immense biotechnological potential of marine annelids, and invertebrates in general, as source of valuable bio-reactives, even in temperate waters. The methodological pipeline, combining ecology, toxicology and molecular biology, circumvented many difficulties of marine bioprospecting and is an important contribution for the sustainable exploitation of novel marine bioresources. O oceano contém muitos organismos por explorar com características adaptativas que os permitem prosperar no seu meio ambiente. Eulalia viridis é um desses organismos. Esta poliqueta verde clara é predador do intertidal rochoso sem mandibulas, equipado dum muco tóxico, permitindo assim predar invertebrados maiores extraindo pedaços de tecido através da sucção. Motivado pelo valor das toxinas como substâncias bioreactivas e pela ambição da UE de conduzir a Estratégia para o Crescimento Azul, à qual a vasta ZEE portuguesa oferece grandes perspetivas, o potencial biotecnológico desta espécie foi analisado. A análise microanatómica desta minhoca revelou adaptações cruciais na alimentação: existência de papilas sensoriais e células responsáveis pela secreção de muco e toxinas. A sequenciação completa do transcritoma e ensaios toxicológicos revelaram um complexo padrão de toxinas proteicas e enzimas com diversas funções: permeabilização de tecidos, anti-coagulação e bloqueio da atividade neuromuscular. As principais neurotoxinas da Eulalia, “filotoxinas”, são proteínas ricas em cisteínas, que atuam como agentes imobilizadores em mexilhões e outros invertebrados, que são administradas por contacto através do muco. Por sua vez, uma maior toxicidade para com a linha celular do cancro do ovário (A2780) do que células normais, demonstraram propriedades citotóxicas e citoestáticas através da paragem do ciclo celular e indução de morte celular programada pela via extrínseca. As proteínas responsáveis por estes efeitos foram identificadas, através de transcritómica e proteómica. As secreções mucosas da minhoca contêm também complexos proteicos internalizáveis que apresentam fluorescência, cuja emissão é reversivelmente regulada pelo estado redox. Resumindo, as características encontradas nas secreções de uma espécie demonstram o vasto potencial biotecnológico de anelídeos marinhos, como uma fonte valiosa de bioreactivos, mesmo em águas temperadas. O percurso metodológico utilizado, a combinação da ecologia, toxicologia e biologia molecular, permitiu contornar dificuldades da bioprospecção marinha, revelando ser um importante contributo para exploração sustentável de novos biorecursos marinhos.

However, the importance attached to the oral expression skill has traditionally been downplayed in favor of other more mechanical teaching methods. In contrast, current pedagogical models advocate a teaching based on communication principles and, therefore, on a type of social learning. Bearing in mind this new paradigm, in this paper we purport to carry out a study on the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language in Norway and, more particularly, how the oral expression skill is approached. For this purpose, a mixed research study has been conducted with a view to knowing this reality. The findings point to the need to boost oral practice in L2 Spanish in the Norwegian context.

Treball Final de Màster Universitari en Rehabilitació Psicosocial en Salut Mental Comunitària. Codi: SAX014. Curs: 2017/2018 Mindfulness es un constructo complejo que, a través de dirigir nuestra atención hacia el momento presente y favorecido por una serie de actitudes y acciones (como la mente del principiante y la repercepción) parece ser beneficiosos a la hora de tratar distintas patologías. A su vez, la esquizofrenia se caracteriza por la presencia de síntomas positivos y negativos. El tratamiento más habitual está basado en la aplicación de terapias tradicionales, entre ellas, el entrenamiento metacognitivo desarrollado por Moritz y cuyo propósito es aumentar la conciencia del enfermo sobre los sesgos y errores cognitivos más comunes que dan lugar a los síntomas. Sin embargo, a lo largo de las últimas décadas se ha desarrollado con fuerza otro tipo de abordaje para esta patología, las terapias de tercera generación, las cuales han introducido aspectos del mindfulness que pueden ser valiosos a la hora de tratar ciertos síntomas de la esquizofrenia, principalmente los delirios. Así pues, se plantea una intervención simultánea de entrenamiento metacognitivo y programa de mindfulness sobre población psicótica con el objetivo de determinar su efecto sobre la sintomatología psicótica.

Se describe la distribución estratigráfica de las especies de rinconélidos del Jurásico Inferior de España (excluidos los Pirineos). En el Sinemuriense y el Pliensbachiense se aprecia una clara diferenciación paleobiogeográfica entre, por un lado, las cuencas del norte (Asturias y la Cuenca Vasco-Cantábrica) y del este (cordilleras Ibérica y Costero-Catalana) y por el otro las Cordilleras Béticas. En el Toarciense Inferior esa diferencia se difumina como consecuencia del importante evento de extinción de la base de la Zona Serpentinum. En el Toarciense Superior se aprecia de nuevo una diferencia en las faunas, esta vez entre las cuencas del norte y las del este. Se identifican los elementos de posible correlación entre las cuencas en dos momentos: el Pliensbachiense Inferior y el Toarciense Inferior. The stratigraphic distribution of the species of rhynchonellida recorded in the Lower Jurassic of Spain (excluded the Pyrenees) is described. In the Sinemurian and the Pliensbachian a clear paleobiogeographic differentiation is observed between, on the one hand, the basins of the north (Asturias and the Basque-Cantabrian basin) and the east (Iberian and Coastal–Catalan Ranges) and on the other one the Betics Chains. In the Lower Toarcian this difference fades out as consequence of the important event of extinction on the base of the Serpentinum Zone. In the Upper Toarcian there is again a difference in the faunas, this time between the basins of the north and of the east. The elements of possible correlation between the basins are identified in two moments: the Early Pliensbachian and the Early Toarcian. La instalación del bacilo de Calmette-Guérin es un tratamiento seguro y eficaz para el cáncer superficial de vejiga. La aparición de artritis tras su administración es un raro efecto secundario. Presentamos el caso clínico de un varón de 65 años que desarrolló oligoartritis asimétrica después de la sexta instalación del bacilo de Calmette-Guérin, que fue resuelta tras el cese del tratamiento y la administración de antiinflamatorios no esteroideos. Intravesical instillation of Calmette-Guérin bacillus (BCG) is an effective and safe treatment for superficial bladder cancer. The reactive arthritis is a rare osteoarticular side-effect following intravesical BCG immunotherapy. The case is presented of a 65-year-old male, who developed reactive asymmetric oligoarthritis after the sixth BCG instillation, which was resolved with administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and discontinuation of intravesical instillation.
