Abstract

We investigate the transmission properties of quasiperiodic or aperiodic structures based on graphene arranged according to the Cantor sequence. In particular, we have found self-similar behaviour in the transmission spectra, and most importantly, we have calculated the scalability of the spectra. To do this, we implement and propose scaling rules for each one of the fundamental parameters: generation number, height of the barriers and length of the system. With this in mind we have been able to reproduce the reference transmission spectrum, applying the appropriate scaling rule, by means of the scaled transmission spectrum. These scaling rules are valid for both normal and oblique incidence, and as far as we can see the basic ingredients to obtain self-similar characteristics are: relativistic Dirac electrons, a self-similar structure and the non-conservation of the pseudo-spin. This constitutes a reduction of the number of conditions needed to observe self-similarity in graphene-based structures, see D\'iaz-Guerrero et al. [D. S. D\'iaz-Guerrero, L. M. Gaggero-Sager, I. Abstract

Aperiodic order is ubiquitous in nature and quite relevant in science and technology. There are extensive works in aperiodic structures studying fundamental characteristics in physical properties, such as fractality, self-similarity, and fragmentation. However, there are fewer reports in which aperiodicity signifies an improvement in physical quantities with practical applications. Here, we show that the aperiodicity of fractal or self-similar type optimizes the tunneling magnetoresistance and spin-valley polarization of magnetic silicene structures, raising the prospects of spin-valleytronics. We reach this conclusion by studying the spin-valley-dependent transport properties of complex (Cantor-like) magnetic silicene structures within the lines of the transfer matrix method and the Landauer–Büttiker formalism. We find that the self-similar arrangement of magnetic barriers in conjunction with structural asymmetry reduces the conductance oscillations typical of periodic magnetic silicene superlattices and more importantly makes the K ′ -spin-down conductance component dominant, resulting in nearly perfect positive and negative spin-valley polarization states accessible by simply reversing the magnetization direction. The tunneling magnetoresistance is not as prominent as in periodic magnetic silicene superlattices; however, it is better than in single magnetic junctions. Furthermore, the optimization of the spin-valley-dependent transport properties caused by the complex structure is superior than the corresponding one reported in typical aperiodic structures, such as Fibonacci and Thue–Morse magnetic silicene superlattices. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Activated prothrombin complex concentrate (aPCC) is a bypassing agent indicated to treat bleeds in patients with acquired hemophilia A (AHA). Nevertheless, its efficacy and safety in the real-world setting have not often been addressed. METHODS: We report the experience of Spanish reference centers for coagulation disorders and from acquired hemophilia Spanish Registry (AHASR) from August 2012 to February 2021. Follow-up period of 30 days after aPCC withdrawal. RESULTS: Thirty patients with a median age of 70 years old, suffering from 51 bleeds treated with aPCC were finally evaluated. As first-line treatment, aPCC stopped bleeding in 13 of 14 (92.9%) cases. aPCC as the second line after recombinant factor VIIa failure, stopped bleeding in all cases. In 17 patients, aPCC was used far from initial bleed control as prophylaxis of rebleeding with 94% effectiveness. No thromboembolic episodes were communicated. One patient developed hypofibrinogenemia, which did not prevent aPCC from halting bleeding. No other serious adverse events possibly or probably associated with aPCC were reported. CONCLUSIONS: This data support aPCC as hemostatic treatment in AHA with high effectiveness and excellent safety profile in acute bleeds and as extended use to prevent rebleedings, even in aging people with high cardiovascular risk.

Abstract

Magnetic field effects have been instrumental to unveil several exotic phenomena in two-dimensional (2D) materials. Here, we show that graphene exhibits self-similar transport once the material is nanostructured with a magnetic field in complex fashion. In specific, when magnetic barriers are arranged according to the Cantor set rules. In this study, the charge carriers are described as quantum relativistic particles through an effective low-energy Hamiltonian. The transmission, transport and thermoelectric properties are computed with the transfer matrix method, the Landauer–Büttiker formalism and the Cutler–Mott formula, respectively. Self-similarity is reflected in the conductance spectra and Seebeck coefficient for different structural parameters such as generation number, the intensity of the magnetic field, the height of the barrier and the total length of the system. Moreover, well-defined scaling rules, which described fairly good the scalability between self-similar patterns, are obtained. We also compare the self-similar patterns of magnetic complex structures with the corresponding ones to magnetic-electric complex structures, finding better scalability for the former. It is worth mentioning that as far as we have corroborated the breaking symmetry associated to the magnetic field is paramount for the self-similar transport. So, magnetic complex structures constitute an excellent option to corroborate the peculiar phenomenon of self-similar transport. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this work we use the transfer matrix method to study the tunneling of Dirac electrons through aperiodic monolayer graphene superlattices. We consider a graphene sheet deposited on top of slabs of Silicon-Oxide (SiO2) and Silicon-Carbide (SiC) substrates, in which we applied the Cantor's series. We calculate the transmittance for different fundamental parameters such as: starting width, incident energy, incident angle and generation number of the Cantor's series. In this case, the transmittance as function of energy presents self-similar features as a function of the generation number. We also compute the angular distribution of the transmittance for fixed energies finding a self-similar patterns between generations. Finally, we calculate the scaling factor for some transmittance spectra, which effectively show scalability., En este trabajo usamos el método de la matriz de transferencia para estudiar el tunelamiento de los electrones de Dirac a través de superredes aperiodicas en grafeno. Consideramos una hoja de grafeno depositada encima de bloques de sustratos de Óxido de Silicio (SiO2) y Carburo de Silicio (SiC), en los cuales aplicamos la serie de Cantor. Calculamos la transmitancia para diferentes parámetros fundamentales tales como: ancho de partida, energía de incidencia, ángulo de incidencia y número de generación de la serie de Cantor. En este caso, la transmitancia como función de la energía presenta rasgos autosimilares al variar el número de generación. También computamos la distribución angular de la transmitancia para energías fijas econtrando un patrón autosimilar entre generaciones. Por último, calculamos los factores de escala para algunos espectros de la transmitancia, los cuales efectivamente muestran escalabilidad.

Abstract

Proteomic is a set of tools that allows the separation and identification of proteins expressed by a cell, tissue or organism. Two-dimensional electrophoresis is the central tool that allows qualitative and quantitative comparisons of protein patterns between samples. Differential analysis of protein expression patterns in different neurological diseases (stroke, Alzheimer, Parkinson, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Hungtington, epilepsy) allows the identification of diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarkers. Subsequently, validation of these markers may help to identify new diagnostic and therapeutic targets.

Abstract

La industria textil y de la confección ha experimentado en Galicia un muy notable proceso de expansión en las últimas décadas. Esta actividad se localiza de modo específico en determinadas localidades y espacios, donde se configuran sistemas productivos locales, mientras en el resto su presencia es más débil. Otra de las características del sector es el contraste existente entre dos modelos empresariales: el vinculado al grupo multinacional Inditex y aquel asociado a un grupo de empresas de menor entidad, pero de gran capacidad competitiva en los segmentos de calidad asociados al diseño. El presente análisis presenta como objetivos: presentar las estrategias empresariales de los dos modelos productivos existentes, individualizar aquellos factores de carácter socioeconómico y territorial que han favorecido el desarrollo de la actividad e identificar las principales implicaciones territoriales que el sector ha generado en aquellas localidades donde su presencia es más significativa Textile and clothing industries have seen in Galicia a very important growth process during the last decades. This activity is located in a specific way in certain places and spaces, where local productive systems are configurated, while in the other ones their presence is weaker. Another characteristic of the sector is the contrast between two manegerial models: one linked to the multinational group Inditex, and the other one associated to a group of smaller companies, but showing great competitive ability in the quality segments linked to design. Both have decentralized a significative part of their productive process to a wide net of co-operatives and little workrooms, mainly located in rural areas. The current analysis presents as objectives: to present the managerial strategies of both existing productive models, to individualize those socioeconomic and territorial factors which have contributed to the development of the activity, to identify the main territorial implications that the sector has caused in those places where their presence is more significant.

We calculate the transmittance as a function of energy for different incident angles and different generations of the Cantor's series. Comparing the transmittance, we found three types of self-similarity: (a) local - into generations, (b) between incident angles and (c) between generations. We also compute the angular distribution of the transmittance for fixed energies finding a self-similar pattern between generations. Aim: To apply quality criteria of computerized tomography (CT) of the lumbar spine as defined in the European Guidelines, in four hospitals of the Community of Madrid, using spiral CT (SCT) in the clinical indication of disc hernia. Materials and Methods: There were selected 20 lumbar spine studies from each center. These were evaluated by five independent radiologists in order to determine the degree of adherence to criteria quality of the European Guidelines for such studies. Dosimetric measurements were performed in parallel in order to estimate values of CT dose index (CTDIw), dose length product (DLP) and effective dose for each patient. Results: The results showed a high degree of adherence to image quality criteria in four centers (97-100)%. Median CTDIw values per center were (34-60) mGy; those of DLP were (242-499) mGy·cm, and those of effective dose between 4 and 7 mSv. Conclusion: There has been a good adherence to the quality criteria. Abstract

We have applied criteria for CT quality defined in the European Guidelines to a sample of thoracic CT examinations - for the indication of pulmonary carcinoma - of 5 institutions of the Community of Madrid that have spiral CT equipment. The selected examinations have been evaluated independently by five radiologists to determine the degree of adherence to the quality criteria for image defined in the Guideliness for examinations of general thorax. Dosimetric measurements carried out in parallel have served to estimate the values of CT (CTDIw) dose indices, dose-length product (DLP) and effective dose for every patient. The results show a high global adherence to the quality criteria (96%), with averages per institution being between 94% (in two institutions) and 98% (in three institutions). There are 10 of 16 criteria that are adhered to in all examinations of the sample; those which are not adhered to systematically are: two of visualization (1.1 and 1.4), with 92-96% fulfillment, and four of critical reproduction (2.6; 2.8; 2.9 and 2.10), with percentages of adherence between 91% and 96%. The average CTDIw values per institution are in the interval 12.9-19.1 mGy; those of DLP between 263 and 577 mGy cm and those of effective dose between 4.2 and 9.2 mSv. The DLP-image quality correlation in institutions with the best image quality was null in two of them and direct and moderate in the third. In both institutions with the poorest image quality, the correlation was inverse and moderate in one and direct and weak in the other. In the case that the category [image omitted]  is considered, if σ≤τ are [image omitted] -compatible idempotent kernel functors or with support it is possible to construct an exact sequence of sheaves of Brauer and Picard relative groups.
