Asthma Control Test (ACT) results, demographic and clinical characteristics, and GEMA indicators of quality asthma care were obtained from each participating patient.Results: Two hundred and eighty-eight patients (64.2% woman, mean age 48.6 years) were included in the study. The evaluation of the level of compliance with the GEMA quality indicators showed that in 20.8% of the patients the diagnosis of asthma was confirmed by spirometry and bronchodilator test, and 52.5% of the patients with suspicion of allergic asthma performed a sensitization test. Among the smoker patients, 76.3% were recommended to stop smoking; 14.2% of the patients received a paper-based educational plan. Regarding asthma treatment, 92.3% of patients with persistent asthma received inhaled glucocorticoids (IGC). IGC and LABA were the most common treatments for asthma, used in combination (ICG + LABA) in 139 (48.3%) patients; 32.6% discontinued SABA treatment during the study period. Asthma was well controlled in 54.9% of the patients (ACT score ≥ 20), and 13.9% of the patients registered exacerbations during the previous year with a mean (SD) of 1.38 (0.74) events.Conclusion: Most of the GEMA quality indicators of asthma care are not followed in real-world clinical practice. Specialists select the best option among the available treatments but there is an unmet need for training plans in other relevant aspects, such as diagnosis and/or disease monitoring.Keywords: asthma, asthma control, indicators of quality care, clinical guidelines, asthma management, compliance with guidelines

Abstract

IC 417 is in the Galactic Plane, and likely part of the Aur OB2 association; it is ~2 kpc away. Stock 8 is one of the densest cluster constituents; off of it to the East, there is a 'Nebulous Stream' (NS) that is dramatic in the infrared (IR). We have assembled a list of literature-identified young stellar objects (YSOs), new candidate YSOs from the NS, and new candidate YSOs from IR excesses. We vetted this list via inspection of the images, spectral energy distributions (SEDs), and color-color/color-magnitude diagrams. We placed the 710 surviving YSOs and candidate YSOs in ranked bins, nearly two-thirds of which have more than 20 points defining their SEDs. The lowest-ranked bins include stars that are confused, or likely carbon stars. There are 503 in the higher-ranked bins; half are SED Class III, and $\sim$40\% are SED Class II. Our results agree with the literature in that we find that the NS and Stock 8 are at about the same distance as each other (and as the rest of the YSOs), and that the NS is the youngest region, with Stock 8 a little older. We do not find any evidence for an age spread within the NS, consistent with the idea that the star formation trigger came from the north. We do not find that the other literature-identified clusters here are as young as either the NS or Stock 8; at best they are older than Stock 8, and they may not all be legitimate clusters., Comment: Accepted by AAS Journals

Abstract

Levrier Bay, located in the western part of Mauritanian Cost, has a strategic position in Mauritania’s fish economy and reproduction environment. Recently, fishmeal factories have multiplied in the bay. This study was carried out in Levrier Bay. It is the first one in this area which is interested in assessing the environmental impact of fishmeal factory discharges by measuring several parameters such as suspended matter, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD), conductivity, turbidity, and salinity. A total of 27 samples were collected at 9 sites distributed on the link between effluents from factories and the Atlantic Ocean (discharge site). Results show that some parameters are over permissible values, like suspended matter content (SS), which reached 2020 mg. L.-1 level. The turbidity measure shows excessively high values (50 to 961 mg.L.-1); impacted by effluents at the reject point, the seawater conductivity and salinity are particularly low (4.53 to 188.2 and 13 to 56.4, respectively). The total organic carbon (TOC) values ranged from 200 to 780 mg/L, whereas the highest measured level of chemical oxygen demand was 4010 mg.L.-1 Biochemical oxygen demand content ranged from 685 to 961 mg/L. The biodegradability index (COD/BOD) shows that these effluents are not easily biodegradable because the index > 3.

22. Local Classical Strategies vs Geometrical Quantum Constraints

Abstract

We use an alternative approach to show that quantum entanglement-like correlations cannot be reproduced for any classical protocol. In our proposal, quantum geometric restrictions are impose over the physical system related to the existence of entanglement and we demonstrate that there is no classical local strategy that can reproduce them completely. Typically, the implementations of Bell inequalities have as a starting point the expectation of classical behavior and as conclusion the violation due to the quantum character of the system. We go the other way around. For this purpose, we build a computational simulation based on the scheme of non-communicating students. In this scheme, the students cannot manipulate the quantum systems but they may set up in advance a common strategy and share some common classical data in order to try to reproduce the given quantum correlations of such systems. By thoroughly searching in the whole space of classical strategies we conclude that local operations and classical communications does not satisfy the geometrical constraints imposed by quantum entanglement.

Abstract

In this work, we present a multiple-scale perturbation technique suitable for the study of open quantum systems, which is easy to implement and in few iterative steps allows us to find excellent approximate solutions. For any time-local quantum master equation, whether markovian or non-markovian, in Lindblad form or not, we give a general procedure to construct analytical approximations to the corresponding dynamical map and, consequently, to the temporal evolution of the density matrix. As a simple illustrative example of the implementation of the method, we study an atom-cavity system described by a dissipative Jaynes-Cummings model. Performing a multiple-scale analysis we obtain approximate analytical expressions for the strong and weak coupling regimes that allow us to identify characteristic time scales in the state of the physical system., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

We describe studies on the nanoscale transport dynamics of carriers in strained AlN/GaN/AlN quantum wells: an electron-hole bilayer charge system with large difference in transport properties between the two charge layers. From electronic band diagram analysis, the presence of spatially separated two-dimensional electron and hole charge layers is predicted at opposite interfaces. Since these charge layers exhibit distinct spectral signatures at terahertz frequencies, a combination of terahertz and far-infrared spectroscopy enables us to extract (a) individual contributions to the total conductivity, as well as (b) effective scattering rates for charge-carriers in each layer. Furthermore, by comparing direct-current and terahertz extracted conductivity levels, we are able to determine the extent to which structural defects affect charge transport. Our results evidence that (i) a non-unity Hall-factor and (ii) the considerable contribution of holes to the overall conductivity, lead to a lower apparent mobility in Hall-effect measurements. Overall, our work demonstrates that terahertz spectroscopy is a suitable technique for the study of bilayer charge systems with large differences in transport properties between layers, such as quantum wells in III-Nitride semiconductors., Comment: Applied Physics Letters

Abstract

Dipolaritons are quasiparticles that arise in coupled quantum wells embedded in a microcavity, they are a superposition of a photon, a direct exciton and an indirect exciton. We propose the existence of dipolaritons in a system of two coupled quantum dots inside a microcavity in direct analogy with the quantum well case and find that, despite some similarities, dipolaritons in quantum dots have different properties and can lead to true dark polariton states. We use a finite system theory to study the effects of the magnetic field on the system, including the emission, and find that it can be used as a control parameter of the properties of excitons and dipolaritons, and the overall magnetic behaviour of the structure., Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures

Ortega-Ferrusola: Conceptualization, conceived the study, Supervision, Formal analysis, and roles, Writing e original draft., This study aimed to assess if Ecotext, a new software for evaluation of testicular echotexture, is a good method for diagnosis of stallions with testicular dysfunction (TD). Relationships between Ecotext parameters and sperm motility and production, testicular volume, and testicular blood flow were also studied. Ecotext provides a total of six echotexture parameters: Ecotext 1 (black pixels), 2 (white pixels) and 3 (grey pixels), and another 3 parameters related to hypoechogenic areas: Ecotext tubular density (ETD), Ecotext tubular diameter (ETd), and Ecotext tubular area (ETA). Stallions (n = 33) were assessed using proven diagnostic techniques (spermiogram, B-mode and Pulse Doppler ultrasound), and subsequent analysis with Ecotext. Animals were classified as “control stallions” (n:21, acceptable semen quality), and “stallions with TD” (n:12, poor semen quality (TM < 60%, PM < 45% and total nº of sperm with PM < 2000 × 106 spz), that were subdivided into “induced TD group” (immunized, anti-GnRH vaccine) and “acquired TD group”. The acquired TD group showed differences in all Ecotext parameters in relation to controls (Ecotext 1:0.11 ± 0.17 vs 2.82 ± 2.52, Ecotext 2:1584.0 ± 575.8 vs 388 ± 368.2, Ecotext 3:134.2 ± 9.26; ETA: 2.14 ± 0.59 vs 5.40 ± 1.90; ETd: 65.66 ± 6.27 vs 86.93 ± 10.65 and ETD: 92.35 ± 11.24 vs 132.10 ± 16.35, p ≤ 0.001). Results suggest acquired TD stallions were suffering testicular degeneration with loss of architecture and function as all Ecotext parameters were altered in relation to controls. Induced TD horses only showed a reduction in ETD (116.2 ± 8.59 vs 132.10 ± 16.35, p ≤ 0.001), despite all sperm parameters being worse. These findings suggested immunized stallions probably only experience an acute loss of testicular functionality and parenchyma architecture is likely not affected since differences in Ecotext parameters with control stallions were not detected. En este trabajo, se obtiene una expresi\'on num\'erica para calcular el espectro de emisi\'on de un sistema microcavidad-punto cu\'antico usando una teor\'ia de campo medio en el formalismo de la matriz densidad. El sistema modelado es un micropilar semiconductor que contiene un \'unico punto cu\'antico en el interior de la microcavidad, este sistema presenta p\'erdida de fotones a trav\'es de los espejos de la cavidad y bombeo de excitones al punto cu\'antico. Obtenemos una ecuaci\'on maestra de campo medio no lineal que nos permite calcular el espectro de emisi\'on. In this work, we deduce a numerical expression to calculate the emission spectrum for a quantum dot-microcavity system, using a mean field theory in the density matrix formalism. The open system modeled, is a typical semiconductor micropillar that contains a single quantum dot inside a microcavity, this system presents leakage of photons through cavity mirrors and pumping of excitons to the quantum dot.
