La Línea de Investigación I+D en Informática Educativa de la Universidad EAFIT, diseñó, estructuró y puso en marcha un conjunto de soluciones para la incorporación de tecnologías en la educación que fueron formalizadas en el Modelo UbiTAG, propuesta de aprendizaje ubicuo que aporta en el proceso de interacción entre la tecnología, el aprendizaje y la gestión educativa de forma coordinada para facilitar la formulación de propuestas educativas exitosas.

— Este artículo presenta el diseño de un nuevo robot para cirugía endoscópica transluminal. Este tipo de cirugía, evolución tecnológica de la cirugía laparoscópica, pretende ingresar al abdomen del paciente por los orifi cios naturales (boca, uretra, ano o vagina), y desde allí acceder al sitio donde se hace necesaria la intervención, procedimiento que conlleva muchas más ventajas respecto a la cirugía laparoscópica. El robot diseñado consta de diecinueve grados de libertad y es movido por un joystick utilizando un controlador por par calculado. La simulación muestra bajos errores cartesianos y movimientos muy precisos del órgano terminal This article presents the design of a new robot for translumenal endoscopic surgery. This type of surgery, evolved from laparoscopic surgery, allows the access into the abdominal cavity of the patient through natural orifi ces such as the mouth, urethra, anus or vagina, and from there reaches the area of the surgical intervention. This procedure has many advantages over laparoscopic surgery. The designed robot has nineteen degrees of freedom and is moved with a joystick device and controlled by a computer torque control. Simulation shows low cartesian errors as well as accurate movements at the end effector.

The Botryosphaeriaceae cause endophytic infections of leaves and bark of various trees, including Eucalyptus, and they apparently persist in this state for extended periods of time. Under conditions of stress, these fungi cause many different disease symptoms on Eucalyptus, of which stem and branch cankers and die-back are the most prominent. Given their cryptic, endophytic nature, the Botryosphaeriaceae are easily overlooked when moving seeds and plants around the world. It is, therefore, not surprising to see a growing number of examples of introductions of Botryosphaeriaceae into new environments. In the past, three species were commonly reported from Eucalyptus, namely Botryosphaeria dothidea, Neofusicoccum ribis (reported as B. ribis) and Lasiodiplodia theobromae. It is now known that B. dothidea and N. ribis are generally rare on Eucalyptus, and that Aplosporella yalgorensis, B. mamane, N. parvum, N. eucalyptorum, N. eucalypticola, N. australe, N. macroclavatum, N. andinum, N. mangiferum, Dichomera eucalypti, Dichomera versiformis, Fusicoccum ramosum, Pseudofusicoccum stromaticum, P. adansoniae, P. ardesiarum, P. kimberleyense, Lasiodiplodia crassispora, L. gonubiensis, L. pseudotheobromae and L. rubropurpurea also infect this host. Interestingly, different species dominate on Eucalyptus in different regions of the world, irrespective of whether other species occur in that environment or not. As examples, in parts of eastern Australia, N. eucalyptorum and N. eucalypticola dominate, although N. australe is common on Acacia spp. in this area, while in Western Australia N. australe dominates. In South Africa and Chile N. parvum, N eucalyptorum and N. eucalypticola are common, despite the presence of N. ribis and N. australe on related hosts such as Syzygium. In Venezuela, there are five other species not common on Eucalyptus elsewhere, but L. theobromae dominates. In Colombia, B. dothidea and N. ribis, and in Uganda and Ethiopia, L. theobromae and N. parvum, are most common. These fascinating patterns of distribution are explored, while their pathogenicity and potential influence on Eucalyptus plantations and surrounding native plant communities are considered. Among a cohort of 237 sexually active females aged 14–19 recruited from community venues in a predominantly Latino neighborhood in San Francisco we examined the relationship between gang exposure and pregnancy incidence over two years of follow-up. Using discrete-time survival analysis we investigated whether individual and partner gang membership were associated with pregnancy incidence and determined whether partnership characteristics, contraceptive behaviors and pregnancy intentions mediated the relationship between gang membership and pregnancy. Pregnancy incidence was determined by urine-based testing and self-report. Seventy-seven percent of participants were Latinas, with one in five born outside the U.S. One-quarter (27.4%) became pregnant over follow-up. Participants’ gang membership had no significant effect on pregnancy incidence (Hazard Ratio (HR)=1.25; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.54, 3.45); however, having partners who were in gangs was associated with pregnancy (HR=1.90; 95% CI: 1.09, 3.32). Perceived male partner’s pregnancy intentions and having a partner in detention each mediated the effect of partner’s gang membership on pregnancy risk. Increased pregnancy incidence among young women with gang-involved partners highlights the importance of integrating reproductive health prevention into programs for gang-involved youth. In addition, high pregnancy rates indicate a heightened risk for sexually transmitted infections.
