Disrupted-in-schizophrenia-1 (DISC1) is a scaffold protein that plays a pivotal role in orchestrating signaling pathways involved in neurodevelopment, neural migration, and synaptogenesis. Among those, it has recently been reported that the role DISC1 in the Akt/mTOR pathway can shift from a global translational repressor to a translational activator in response to oxidative stress induced by arsenic. In this study we are providing evidence that DISC1 can directly bind arsenic via a C-terminal cysteine motif (C-X-C-X-C). A series of fluorescence-based binding assays were conducted with a truncated C-terminal domain construct of DISC1 and a of series of single, double, and triple cysteine mutants. We found that arsenous acid, a trivalent arsenic derivative, specifically binds to the C-terminal cysteine motif of DISC1 with low micromolar affinity. All three cysteines of the motif are required for high-affinity binding. Electron microscopy experiments combined with in silico structural predictions revealed that that the C-terminal of DISC1 forms an elongated tetrameric complex. The cysteine motif is consistently predicted to be located within a loop, fully exposed to solvent, providing a simple molecular framework to explain the high-affinity of DISC1 toward arsenous acid. This study sheds light on a novel functional facet of DISC1 as an arsenic binding protein and highlights its potential role as both a sensor and translational modulator within the Akt/mTOR pathway.

LIBER new strategy 2023-2027. With this strategy plan LIBER has chosen to work on an actionable strategy for the coming five-year period, as this will be a crucial period in transforming the digital environment for research and scholarly communications in an Open Science setting. The actions proposed by this strategy plan will ensure that research libraries have a crucial role in this transformation

France is engaged since a few years in a national planning of its actions in favour of Open Science, which reaches a certain maturity in 2022. The first plan was announced in 2018 at the annual LIBER conference. In 2021, a second plan was published. Libraries have taken up the issue from the beginning and their role in Open Science has been decisive. At a local level, institutions regularly integrate library services into their strategies and often entrust them with the preparation and management of strategic issues. At a national level, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research is working closely with libraries on the development of open science and on the determination of (open) public research funding criteria. Supporters of Open Science, first-rate partners and leaders in their field of expertise, libraries have participated in 2018 and 2021 in setting up a national policy that responds to critical issues of openness and sharing of publicly funded research results, then in federating and animating active academic and research communities around these issues. This paper aims to show why research libraries in France are participating in the development of this policy, and how they are contributing to the implementation of actions that ensure its growing success. The French government has based its Open Science strategy on complementary approaches that guarantee a coherent vision : publications, data, codes, open educational resources, evaluation of research, sovereignty issues, taking into account the European and international dimension of Open Science. Libraries have found their place in this ecosystem. Committed to the most concrete actions in the short term, characterized by a reflexive hindsight, endowed with a long term vision, libraries are key players regarding issues related to the dissemination, transmission and preservation of knowledge : they have built their role as strategic advisors to public authorities and ensured their recognition and representativeness within the decision-making bodies. As vectors of innovation and keepers of a structured scientific memory, libraries have shown their capacity to federate and manage academic communities around the challenges of opening up research results, data and publications, showcasing their role as key partners for researchers. This paper shall present national achievements made possible by, with and through libraries: texts, documents, practical guides, examples of researchers, engineers and librarians communities; it shall also give some examples of implementation of these policies within higher education institutions. It will explain through practical cases why and how libraries have played an essential role in the launch of French national policies and are now playing a decisive role in its evolution. It will present the main French policy and strategic directions on Open Science and detail the specific aspects related to the action of research libraries. Il will as a result illustrate how libraries, through their expertise but also thanks to their European and cross-professional vision, have been and are working successfully towards the implementation of Open Science strategies in higher education and research institutions, where the national policy finds support and relays

Les tests immunochromatographiques font partie des tests POC les plus utilisés pour le diagnostic rapide des maladies infectieuses. Ces tests sont utilisés depuis de très nombreuses années mais ils ont pris aujourd’hui une place importante dans le diagnostic et l’auto diagnostic à l’officine comme à l’hôpital. Leur place parmi les DMDIV et les nouvelles contraintes réglementaires liées à leur mise sur le marché fait partie des challenges à relever pour les années à venir. Les technologies innovantes ont permis aux tests immunochromatographiques de se développer à grande échelle et de plus en plus de laboratoires s’intéressent à ces tests afin d’obtenir de nouveaux marchés. Durant la pandémie de Covid-19, les tests immunochromatographiques ont été massivement utilisés sous différentes formes : antigéniques, sérologiques et autotests. Ces tests présentent de nombreux atouts mais aussi certains inconvénients notamment leur fiabilité. Ce travail a pour but d’exposer les différents aspects des tests immunochromatographiques et les perspectives de développement pour le futur.

Session description: The classical model of the library was both an archive and a temple. The library was a defense against decay and destruction, an institution that preserved not only a system of values but also certain rituals of using knowledge: the book as a physical object and, consequently, a model of text that is final and unchangeable. But electronic textuality has changed all that. We are not in Kansas anymore, and some rather pesky people among us -- generally referred to as digital humanists -- have developed a craving for digital collections in which a text or an image is not only an object but a service; not a static entity but an interactive method. Can libraries keep up with the instability and fluidity of infinitely enrichable digital objects? And should they? &nbsp

Horizon EU commit firmly to the practices of "Open Science" and "Responsible Research & Innovation", but the level of awareness among the average grant applicant lags significantly behind. Average applicant tends to address these new requirements as a "check list", while making them essential philosophy of the research method design can add a competitive edge at proposal evaluation. The presentation will showcase two parallel experiment at Un. Lille (France) and Technical University Denmark (DTU), targeting different national and EU grant calls, and research cultures. At both sites, the approach was to pro-actively integrate Open Science in national and EU grant proposals, in order to test if going above and beyond funder requirements on Open Science could give applicants a competitive edge. Strategies and advocacy was developed to integrate Open Science in all proposal sections: from adding excellence to a reproducible research methodology, to enhancing impact & exploitation in synergy with intellectual property (IP) practices, and broadening dissemination and communication with Citizen Scientists. Approaches included designing specific Open Science actions and deliverables, as part of the research process, accompanied by appropriate budget that matches ambition, and capitalizes on institutional capacity to implement Open Science. Evidence from multi-annual reiterations clearly demonstrates that Open Science, when credibly coupled to pro-active knowledge transfer strategies and Citizen Science/Science Literacy outreach activities, clearly adds a competitive advantage to research grant proposals. The lessons learned are generic, discipline-agnostic to a large degree and potentially easily transferable to any national funding research grant instrument (or research support team). As European Commission steps up the discourse on societal challenges relevance of access to publicly-funded research (e.g. Manifesto for EU COVID-19 Research https://ec.europa.eu/info/research-and-innovation/research-area/health-research-and-innovation/coronavirus-research-and-innovation/covid-research-manifesto_en), research support staff can be a key multiplier in Open Science uptake across all research disciplines. Learning Outcomes: Attendees will: - appreciate that Open Science is much broader than the prevalent "Open Access to publications" debate; - learn how Open Science provokes positive proposal evaluations in all sections of a proposal; - learn how to support applicants to integrate Open Science in every proposal., The presentation showcased evidence from two universities and several funding instruments, that Open Science can make grant proposals more competitive. The presentation was given to EU Research Managers Association Conference, EARMA 2021.

Les beaux-livres sur les bibliothèques sont nombreux, tant ces lieux se prêtent aisément à des images spectaculaires et inspirantes. Tel n’est pas l’ambition de cet ouvrage, qui prend un parti résolument différent. Sans nier la puissance évocatrice des bâtiments construits hier comme d’aujourd’hui, il s’attache plutôt à présenter un ensemble de bibliothèques remarquables, insérées dans leur environnement, leur territoire, leur communauté et leurs réseaux, et jouissant d’une visibilité, d’une reconnaissance, d’une influence et d’un rayonnement particulièrement importants, qui vont souvent bien au-delà des écrins qui les abritent. A travers une quarantaine de monographies originales, agrémentées de photos souvent inédites, ce livre invite à un cheminement libre à travers la sélection opérée, organisée par continent. Tous les types de bibliothèques du monde y sont représentées, publiques, universitaires, nationales, spécialisées, y compris de prestigieuses bibliothèques de statut privé. Certaines sont de créations plutôt récentes, d’autres sont pluriséculaires voire millénaires. Mais toutes participent à l’histoire des bibliothèques, voire à l’Histoire tout court.

These are the slides from the LIBER 2020 Opening Address -Reflections on the impact of Covid-19 on Open Science. Session Description: Welcome to LIBER ONLINE 2020! LIBER President Jeannette Frey is looking forward to welcoming you to LIBER’s 49th Annual Conference. LIBER’s Vice President Julien Roche will, subsequently, present an introduction to the programme, after which he will chair the opening address. This year’s opening address is a collective presentation by our three Steering Committee Chairs, who will reflect on the impact of Covid-19 on Open Science. Dr. Bertil F. Dorch will use his research at the University of Southern Denmark to illustrate the managerial challenges during the covid-19 pandemic. Following, Dr. Birgit Schmidt will summarize the developments in the research field, from the perspective of open science and research data management. Finally, Dr. Giannis Tsakonas will conclude by discussing the current obstacles research library communities face regarding Open Access and copyright challenges.

C’est en septembre 2014 que la nouvelle Bibliothèque et Learning center des sciences et technologies a ouvert ses portes. Reconfigurée en un lieu multiple d’accès aux ressources documentaires, aux services d’aide aux apprentissages et d’appui à la recherche, et aux espaces diversifiés propres à favoriser l’étude, le travail en groupe, les évènements et la convivialité, la nouvelle BST tire désormais le bilan de ces 5 années d’expérience des usagers. A cette occasion, la journée d'étude organisée ce 24 septembre 2019 permettra de confronter 4 projets de bibliothèque et learning center encore en développement (ULB/VUB, Lumen Paris-Saclay, UCLouvain/SSH, ULiège) et 5 réalisations abouties et fonctionnelles depuis quelques années (UCLouvain/BST, Rolex LC Lausanne, Lilliad Lille, Luxembourg LC, Agora Leuven). Entre rêves et réalités, les idées et expériences sur les learning center en bibliothèques sont échangées.
