Purpose: In this work, we aim to shed light on how co-resourcing and actors' practices impact the agricultural innovation process. Design/Methodology/Approach: In a first step, we conceptualized agricultural innovation as the process during which actors exchange solutions that enable innovation to emerge. To provide these solutions, actors integrate operand and operant resources while simultaneously changing the context within which the innovation process takes place through their practices. By using three case studies, we present how co-resourcing and actors' practices catalyze agricultural innovation. Findings: Actors participate in solution networks having different aims. After setting forth value propositions, they engage in co-resourcing processes, using a wide array of practices (even 'dark' ones) to extract value from the innovation. Practical Implications: This study suggests the need for both research and policy to pay close attention to the process of co-resourcing and the practices used by actors involved in agricultural innovation networks. Theoretical Implications: The present work reveals that actors who have access to or own key resources take dominant positions in innovation networks, thus having the potential to form institutions in a way that serves their individual interests. Originality/value: This study uncovers that actors' practices during co-resourcing catalyze the agricultural innovation process.

Purpose: Considering current debates on ecosystem services' effectiveness and the AIS/AKIS functioning, in this study we suggest a new, systemic way to evaluate extension systems (ESs). Using this model, we compared the effectiveness of ESs in three countries with essential differences but also characteristic similarities in their agricultural sectors: Greece, Italy and Slovenia.Design/methodology/approach: Initially, we defined 'extension system' as a wide range of actors integrating resources with the aim of co-producing value (not for but with) farmers. To capture the value flow within this constellation of actors we distinguished between the notion of 'value in production' -- i.e. the value embodied in service offerings -- and the value emanating when service content is used in real settings or 'value in use.'Findings: Our approach revealed that, despite their structural and organizational differences, the ES in the three countries share common problems arising from a limited focus on the issue of value in use. Practical implications: The application of a systemic approach -- seeing farmers as co-creators and not as end-users of extension services -- in the evaluation of ESs contributes to better understand the complexity of value flow within the system and can strengthen extension systems' effectiveness.Theoretical implications: The present study, by reconsidering traditional evaluation approaches and by focusing on value co-production, offers an alternative value-centric framework for the conceptualization of extension services and points out to the need for refining the evaluation criteria of ESs.Originality/value: Our work, by emphasizing the reciprocal creation of value within ESs, and by adding the concept of value in use, offers a new systems approach worth considering when evaluating ESs within different organizational and sociocultural contexts.

Dendritic cells (DCs) play a pivotal role in immune surveillance, acting as sentinels that coordinate immune responses within tissues. Although differences in the identity and functional states of DC subpopulations have been identified through multiparametric flow cytometry and single‐cell RNA sequencing, these methods do not provide information about the spatial context in which the cells are located. This knowledge is crucial for understanding tissue organisation and cellular cross‐talk. Recent developments in multiplex imaging techniques can now offer insights into this complex spatial and functional landscape. This review provides a concise overview of these imaging methodologies, emphasising their application in identifying DCs to delineate their tissue‐specific functions and aiding newcomers in navigating this field. Background/Objectives: Lumbar disc herniation, a complex challenge in spinal health, significantly impacts individuals across diverse age groups. This article delves into the intricacies of this condition, emphasising the pivotal role of anatomical considerations in its understanding and management. Additionally, lumbar discectomy might be considered an "easy" surgery; nevertheless, it carries significant risks. The aim of the study was to present a groundbreaking "three-step approach" with some anatomical insight derived from our comprehensive clinical experiences, designed to systematise the surgical approach and optimise the outcomes, especially for young spine surgeons. We highlighted the purpose of the study and introduced our research question(s) and the context surrounding them. Methods: This retrospective study involved patients treated for lumbar disc herniation at a single institution. The patient demographics, surgical details, and postoperative assessments were meticulously recorded. All surgeries were performed by a consistent surgical team. Results: A total of 847 patients of the 998 patients initially included completed the follow-up period. A three-step approach was performed for every patient. The recurrence rate was 1.89%. Furthermore, the incidence of lumbar instability and the need for reoperation were carefully examined, presenting a holistic view of the outcomes. Conclusions: The three-step approach emerged as a robust and effective strategy for addressing lumbar disc herniation. Simple Summary: Meningiomas are the most common primary benign tumor of the central nervous system, and, despite their prevalent benign nature, they exhibit variable tendency to recur during the lifetime, even after multiple reoperations, adjuvant radiation treatment and several years, posing a significant challenge of management. While well-defined risk factors of recurrence have been identified, the topographic pattern after surgery has scarcely been investigated. Nevertheless, the possibility of theoretically predicting the site of recurrence provides a significant advantage for a multidisciplinary team during the decision-making process regarding the strategy of treatment at the first surgery. The authors performed a comprehensive and detailed systematic literature review on the topographic pattern of recurrence after surgical treatment for intracranial meningiomas. Background: While several risk factors for recurrences have been defined, the topographic pattern of meningioma recurrences after surgical resection has been scarcely investigated. The possibility of theoretically predicting the site of recurrence not only allows us to better understand the pathogenetic bases of the disease and consequently to drive the development of new targeted therapies, but also guides the decision-making process for treatment strategies and tailored follow-ups to decrease/prevent recurrence. Methods: The authors performed a comprehensive and detailed systematic literature review of the EMBASE and MEDLINE electronic online databases regarding the topographic pattern of recurrence after surgical treatment for intracranial meningiomas. Demographics and histopathological, neuroradiological and treatment data, pertinent to the topography of recurrences, as well as time to recurrences, were extracted and analyzed. Results: Four studies, including 164 cases of recurrences according to the inclusion criteria, were identified. All studies consider the possibility of recurrence at the previous dural site; three out of four, which are the most recent, consider 1 cm outside the previous dural margin to be the main limit to distinguish recurrences closer to the previous site from those more distant. Recurrences mainly occur within or close to the surgical bed; higher values of proliferation index are associated with recurrences close to the original site rather than within it. Conclusions: Further studies, including genomic characterization of different patterns of recurrence, will better clarify the main features affecting the topography of recurrences. A comparison between topographic classifications of intracranial meningioma recurrences after surgery and after radiation treatment could provide further interesting information. One of the greatest neuro-oncological concern remains the lack of knowledge about the etiopathogenesis and physiopathology of gliomas. Several studies reported a strict correlation between radiological features and biological behaviour of gliomas; in this way the velocity of diametric expansion (VDE) correlate with lower grade glioma aggressiveness. However, there are no the same strong evidences for high grade gliomas (HGG) because of the lack of several preoperative MRI.

The digitalization of agriculture generates a new environment for the actors involved in agrifood production. In such a context, Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKISs) face the challenge of reconsidering their operational paradigms, redefining priorities, and designing strategies to achieve new aims. To do so, the actors participating in AKISs should develop and exploit a set of competencies known as dynamic capabilities, including the aptitude to sense the change in the external environment, the capacity to seize the opportunities that this change creates, and an ability to transform and adapt themselves to the new conditions that digitalization generates. In this study, using as examples the AKISs operating in Greece and Italy, we aimed to uncover if and how actors participating in these systems attempt and manage to deploy such capabilities. Based on a qualitative approach and drawing on data from two workshops, we discovered that seizing the opportunities sensed is a challenging task for AKIS actors. Our results also indicate that knowledge is a pivotal resource for AKISs, allowing actors to enhance their transformative capacity. However, to create a "collective" knowledge base, AKISs should ensure a functional connection between stakeholders and strengthen the roles of actors not actively engaged with the system, like public advisory organizations, universities, and technology providers.
