Various crystallite size estimation methods were used to analyze X-ray diffractograms of spherical cerium dioxide and donut-like titanium dioxide anatase nanoparticles aiming to evaluate their reliability and limitations. The microstructural parameters were estimated from Scherrer, Monshi, Williamson-Hall, and their variants: i) uniform deformation model, ii) uniform strain deformation model, and iii) uniform deformation energy density model, and also size-strain plot, and Halder-Wagner method. For that, and improved systematic Matlab code was developed to estimate the crystallite sizes and strain, and the linear regression analysis was used to compare all the models based on the coefficient of determination, where the Halder Wagner method gave the highest value (close to 1). Therefore, being the best candidate to fit the X-ray Diffraction data of metal-oxide nanoparticles. Advanced Rietveld was introduced for comparison purposes. Refined microstructural parameters were obtained from a nanostructured 40.5 nm Lanthanum hexaboride nanoparticles and correlated with the above estimation methods and transmission electron microscopy images. In addition, electron density modelling was also studied for final refined nanostructures, and μ-Raman spectra were recorded for each material estimating the mean crystallite size and comparing by means of a phonon confinement model.

Here we propose a strategy allowing implementing efficient and practicable large-scale seroepidemiological studies for Zika Virus (ZIKV). It combines screening by a commercial NS1 protein-based Zika IgG ELISA, and confirmation by a cytopathic effect-based virus neutralization test (CPE-based VNT). In post-epidemic samples from Martinique Island blood donors (a population with a dengue seroprevalence above 90%), this strategy allowed reaching specificity and sensitivity values over 98%. The CPE-based VNT consists of recording CPE directly under the optical microscope, which is easy to identify with ZIKV strain H/PF/2013 at day 5 pi. Overall, considered that CPE-based VNT is cost effective and widely automatable, the NS1 protein-based Zika IgG ELISA+CPE-based VNT combination strategy represents a convenient tool to expedite ZIKV seroprevalence studies.

A D-band subharmonically-pumped resistive mixer has been designed, processed, and experimentally tested. The circuit is based on a 180° power divider structure consisting of a Lange coupler followed by a lambda/4 transmission line (at local oscillator (LO) frequency). This monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) has been realized in coplanar waveguide technology by using an InAlAs/InGaAs-based metamorphic high electron mobility transistor process with 100-nm gate length. The MMIC achieves a measured conversion loss between 12.5 dB and 16 dB in the radio frequency bandwidth from 120 GHz to 150 GHz with 4-dBm LO drive and an intermediate frequency of 100 MHz. The input 1-dB compression point and IIP3 were simulated to be 2 dBm and 13 dBm, respectively.

Se realizó un análisis retrospectivo de las fichas clínico-epidemiológicas y de los resultados serológicos de los casos de dengue de la ciudad de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, durante el período de enero 2003 a octubre 2007. El objetivo es de analizar la evolución temporal espacial de los casos de dengue entre 2003-2007 y determinar los factores de riesgos de tipo demográficos. Se observó que desde el año 2003 el dengue se instaló en la ciudad de Santa Cruz y circuló cada año durante todo el año, incluso en temperada seca. Del 2003 al 2007 la infección viral sube y la precisión del diagnóstico mejora, el porcentaje de muestras positivas pasa de un 25,5% a un 49,4%.
