Abstract

Aim: To examine the psychometric properties of a short form version of the Numinous Motivation Inventory (NMI) for use with healthcare providers in measuring their existential engagement with life and to assess its relationship with spiritual coping and emotional dysphoria. Design: Correlational and psychometric study. Method: Data were collected from June to December 2022. Participants included 102 physicians, recruited from across the United States. Qualtrics was utilized to collect data, and they were evaluated with the NMI short form, Spiritual Coping Questionnaire and Depression, Anxiety, and Stress scale (DASS‐21). Results: Obtained fit statistics from structural equation modelling analysis indicated close fit of the NMI short form with the original model. Multiple regression analyses demonstrated the value of the NMI as a predictor of negative affect independent of spiritual coping. The NMI did not interact with Spiritual Coping, which was independent of negative affect. Conclusions: The Numinous represents an important aspect of physicians' coping. The constructs can be utilized in training and clinical settings as a valuable and easy‐to‐use metric for promoting and assessing wellness. The implications of these findings and the value of the NMI were discussed. Impact: An understanding of existential drivers can equip one to cope with the stressors of healthcare. 27. Seize the Data: An Analysis of Guardianship Annual Reports.

Abstract

Courts have a legal and ethical duty to monitor adult guardianship cases to protect the rights of individuals with guardians. Aging and disability advocates have been recommending improvements to adult guardianship monitoring for decades. The aim of this study is to examine annual guardianship reporting procedures in each state. Using the National Guardianship Association’s (NGA) Standards of Practice as a guide, we summarize what is missing from adult guardianship annual report forms in each state. Since 2000, the NGA Standards have been the benchmark for guiding guardianship best practices, making it a valuable tool for guardianship reporting and monitoring. Results show that most states are not collecting thorough data on adults with guardians, their guardians, or the guardian-client relationship. Additionally, many existing annual report forms may be difficult to complete due to confusing question structure and reading levels that are above the national average, especially since most adult guardians are nonprofessional guardians. Improved reporting procedures would help courts monitor guardianships more effectively, ensure that the rights of individuals with guardians are being protected, and provide meaningful data on the overall state of guardianship. Abstract

Manatee County, Florida Government is making strides with new technologies and sustainability efforts. The International Institute for Sustainable Development says one of the key concepts in defining sustainability is "the idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and social organization on the environment's ability to meet present and future needs." This paper is about the process to implement the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems, better known as drones, within the County for this very purpose. The Cunty is fortunate to have an experienced videographer on staff. The videographers' creative eye for photography has truly enhanced publicity for the County's parks and preserves. The videographer is also knowledgable in drones. Using a DJI Phantom 3 drone, multiple videos have been created for viewers to appreciate aerial shots of Manatee County's beautiful scenery as well as events such as the annual County Fair. The Energy and Sustainability division initiated the idea of implementing a policy for drones and certifying pilots in addition to exploring hiring outside service contractors as part of a Request for Proposal process to meet the increasing demand for drone flights. ESRI's Drone2Map application will assist with County efforts for interior modeling. Parks and grounds maintenance will benefit by using the drone to track and map occurrences and aftermaths of rainfall such as drainage and flood patterns. Drone flight video will identify problem areas in the parks such as grades, tree growth, planting areas, neglected areas, growth problems and vacant space for potential growth or additional amenities. 30. Double Dehydro-Diels-Alder Reactions of 1,5-Dien-3-ynes

Abstract

A study was conducted to demonstrate double dehydro-diels-alder reactions of 1,5-dien-3-ynes. It was demonstrated that the reaction proceeded through two concerted cycloadditions, the first of which was proposed to be reversible. Detailed analysis revealed some of general features of the unique double diels-alder reaction. The reaction proceeded at only at high temperature, the dienophile needed to be highly activated, and yields were always low. N-Methylmaleimide (NMM) and 1,2-dicyclohexenyl acetylene 1 were selected as representative reaction partners to conduct the optimization investigations. Some of the parameters that were varied during the course of the reaction, included temperature, method of heating, and reaction stoichiometry. The effects of various radical inhibitors, solvents, and treated glassware were also investigated under the study.
