Different network technologies have been deployed to link the backbone infrastructure to the access network. The investigation of the performance of such combined communication systems can provide improvement to the network design procedures. More specifically, the interconnection of PLC (Power Line Communication) and Satellite is a current and emergent practice that allows communication access to be available in remote locations or for even those that were not still contemplated. In this paper, our main objective is to analyze the performance of a joint PLC and Satellite system according to some parameters of communication networks such as latency, file transfer rate, etc. We conducted all the experiments at CELG, the electricity company of the state of Goias (Brazil), demonstrating the feasibility and the advantages of the considered telecommunication system.

A malignant myoepithelioma arising in the submucosal glands of the larynx of a 71-year-old man is reported. The patient presented with a neck mass and massive metastatic involvement of the liver. Light microscopy of a liver biopsy specimen and fine-needle aspiration sample of the neck mass revealed a poorly differentiated carcinoma. Electron microscopic study of a second liver biopsy specimen demonstrated unequivocal features of myoepithelial differentiation; this was further confirmed by the strong cytokeratin and S-100 protein positivity and carcinoembryonic antigen negativity of the tumor cells. Myoepitheliomas are rare tumors, and most reported cases have been benign or of low-grade malignancy. The present case is unique because of its mode of presentation and fulminant course. It also underscores the usefulness of electron microscopy as a diagnostic modality in the work-up of metastatic lesions.

Previous reports have emphasized the association of primary hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with idiopathic hemochromatosis with cirrhosis. In contrast, patients with idiopathic hemochromatosis without cirrhosis have no increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. Phlebotomy therapy, by preventing the accumulation of parenchymal iron and subsequent cirrhosis, is believed to prevent hepatocellular carcinoma in the precirrhotic stage of the disease. We report the case of a 67-yr-old man with a 32-yr history of idiopathic hemochromatosis complicated by cirrhosis, who had reversal of cirrhosis with phlebotomy therapy, yet developed hepatocellular carcinoma. There was no serologic or tissue evidence of hepatitis B infection.
