Introduction High erosion and sediment yield rates continue to pose a significant threat to the environment globally. Information on erosion and sediment rates is key for supporting effective and sustainable mitigation measures. Models that estimate sediment yield are vital in providing information about erosion and sediment yield rates, as empirical studies are prohibitive over large spatial and temporal scales. Methods In this study, we simulate daily sediment transport using the WQSED model and assess the effectiveness of the tool in providing crucial estimations of sediment yield. The model structure links the Modified Universal Soil Loss Equation (MUSLE) to a simple sediment storage component. The model was applied to the Odzi River catchment in Zimbabwe and The Rio Tanama River catchment in Puerto Rico, where daily observations of sediment yield exceeding a decade were available for calibration and validation. Results In both catchments, we achieved a coefficient of efficiency and R2 and NSE of > 0.7 during model calibration and > 0.6 during model validation. The percentage bias remained below 45% for both calibration and validation periods. Conclusion These results indicate that the WQSED model can be applied to provide estimates of sediment yield that are reliable for erosion, sediment yield and water quality management. An effective and relatively simple sediment yield model incorporating sediment storage is essential for catchment management in erosion-prone areas.

The assumption of stationarity in water resources no longer holds, particularly within the context of future climate change. Plausible scenarios of flows that fluctuate outside the envelope of variability of the gauging data are required to assess the robustness of water resources systems to future conditions. This study presents a novel method of generating weekly-time-step flows based on tree-ring chronology data. Specifically, this method addresses two long-standing challenges with paleo-reconstruction: (1) the typically limited predictive power of tree-ring data at the annual and sub-annual scale, and (2) the inflated short-term persistence in tree-ring time series and improper use of prewhitening. Unlike the conventional approach, this method establishes relationships between tree-ring chronologies and naturalised flow at a biennial scale to preserve persistence properties and variability of hydrological time series. Biennial flow reconstructions are further disaggregated to weekly, according to the weekly flow distribution of reference two-year instrumental periods, identified as periods with broadly similar tree-ring properties to that of every two-year paleo-period. The Saskatchewan River Basin (SaskRB), a major river in Western Canada, is selected as a study area, and weekly flows in its four major tributaries are extended back to the year 1600. The study shows that the reconstructed flows properly preserve the statistical properties of the reference flows, particularly, short- to long-term persistence and the structure of variability across time scales. An ensemble approach is presented to represent the uncertainty inherent in the statistical relationships and disaggregation method. This work intends to develop an intelligent, four-dimensional (namely X-Y-Z plus somatosensory), partial control, and virtual-reality-enabled Tai-Chi System (VTCS). Tai-Chi is a traditional mind-body wellness and healing art, and its clinical benefits have been well documented. VTCS integrates Tai-Chi with a series of cutting-edge computer technologies including 4D sensor technology, big-data, signal processing and analysis, human body kinematics, deep learning, virtual reality, and 4D-reconstruction, etc. The aforementioned system will generate a controllable and consistent 4D experience to help, push and coach (HPC) people to get involved in sports activities. In particular, VTCS makes Tai-Chi movements suitable to individuals who suffer from mobility disabilities due to diseases or injuries as an accessible rehabilitation and fitness modality. VTCS consists of the following modules: acquisition, transmission and reconstruction of user׳s 4D data, data preprocessing, identification of user׳s kinetic movement, and individualized movement choreography. Under the support of collaborative hospitals, the physiological and psychological benefits brought about by VTCS will be critically assessed.

Paraneoplastic vasculitic neuropathy has been recently described. We report the first case of this disorder which responded both clinically and electrophysiologically to cyclophosphamide treatment. A 54hyphen;year-old women with a history of metastatic endometrial carcinoma in remission had asymmetrical polyneuropathy, electrophysiological findings consistent with a diffuse axonal neuropathy, high sedimentation rate and spinal fluid protein, and microvasculitis with axonal degeneration on nerve biopsy. The patient was treated with 150 mg of cyclophosphamide daily with gradual clinical and electrophysiological improvement.

This paper outlines a number of research projects that are currently underway at EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ to investigate the potential for antimatter rocketry. This paper outlines a test to measure the impulse bit produced from electronpositron annihilations. Past research is also described along with Monte Carlo analysis to support the development of positron annihilation thermal rocketry and the flrst ever proof of concept test for a beamed core antimatter rocket engine.
