Since May 2022, multiple human Monkeypox cases were identified in nonendemic countries, mainly among men who have sex with men. We aimed to report the features, clinical course, management, and outcome of the Monkeypox cases diagnosed in the Dermatology and Infectious Disease Units of the San Martino Hospital, Genoa, Italy. We performed an observational study of the Monkeypox cases diagnosed from July 1 until August 31, 2022, collecting clinical, laboratory, and histological data. We studied 16 Monkeypox-infected men (14 homosexual, 2 bisexual) with a median age of 37 years. Three were HIV-infected. All patients reported multiple sexual partners and/or unprotected sex in the 2 weeks before the diagnosis. Most patients had prodromal signs/symptoms before the appearance of the skin/mucosal eruption, consisting of erythematous papules/vesicles/pustules in the anogenital area, which tended to erode evolving into crusts and ulcers. Lesions were often associated with local and/or systemic symptoms. Histopathology showed overlapping features in all cases: epidermal ulceration and dermal inflammatory infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes and neutrophils with an interstitial and perivascular/peri-adnexal pattern and endothelial swelling. Concomitant sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (gonococcal/nongonococcal proctitis and anal high-risk human papillomavirus [HR-HPV] infection) were frequent. Four patients were hospitalized, and one received specific treatment. The overall outcome was good. At the follow-up visit, three patients presented skin scars. Our series confirms the features of the current Monkeypox outbreak; however, different from other studies, we found a considerable rate of concomitant STIs, such as anal HR-HPV infection, that should be kept in mind because this persistent infection is the main cause of anal cancers., (© 2023 The Authors. Objective: To assess the content and face validity of a model of an obstructed feline ureter as a tool for teaching ureteral microsurgery., Study Design: Prospective, experimental study., Sample Population: Seven expert and 11 novice microsurgeons., Methods: The model was created from latex rubber with an inner diameter of 0.8 mm and an outer diameter of 5 mm. The "ureter" was created with an inner compartment, a thin wall, and a soft, outer layer mimicking periureteral fat. A "ureterolith" 0.8-1.2 mm in diameter was placed inside the inner compartment by using a blunt-tipped cannula. A standardized "ureterotomy" was performed by 7 expert and 11 novice microsurgeons. Both groups completed questionnaires evaluating the content and face validity of the model using subjective measures and a 5-point Likert scale. Reliability was analysed by calculation of Cronbach's α for all questions to ensure α ≥ .7. The median responses to each question were compared between groups with a nonparametric independent samples median test. P < .05 was considered significant., Results: The Cronbach's α for the experts and the novices for content validity questions was .7 and .9, respectively, and for the face validity questions it was .7 and .8, respectively. The model was rated to have excellent content validity and very good face validity., Conclusion and Impact: The model elicited positive responses from expert and novice microsurgeons and can be recommended as a tool for teaching ureteral microsurgery. Background: Macroscopic clinical evidence of tissue damaging following bariatric surgery pushed plastic surgeons to presume microscopic alterations as well., Methods: Five preliminary cases studied randomly, and compared with healthy tissues, confirmed these initial suspects. A deeper and wider study has then been structured., Results: Preliminary results are so evident to encourage us to carry on an estimated 2-3 years multidisciplinary study., Conclusions: What we want to study is if histological post-bariatric alterations are confirmed, and if these can be considered responsible for higher complication rate in body contouring following bariatric surgery.

The medial collateral ligament of one stifle in 20 adult dogs was excised and replaced with polypropylene mesh or a polyester suture. After 26 weeks, the fibrous tissue-prosthesis composites were evaluated clinically, morphologically, and biomechanically. Clinical lameness was not significantly different after 10 days. The polypropylene mesh reconstructions consistently had more fibrous tissue and greater collagenous ingrowth than the polyester suture reconstructions. There were four complications related to fixation of the polypropylene mesh prosthesis and one to the polyester suture. The polypropylene mesh reconstructions had greater stability and were biomechanically more similar to the natural ligaments than the polyester suture reconstructions. Although the results with polypropylene mesh were favorable, more challenging biomechanical testing and alternative anchoring techniques are required before polypropylene mesh can be recommended as a collateral ligament replacement in dogs.

Failures in bone healing can result from technical problems, biologic failures, or a combination of the two. Inadequate stabilization of bone fragments against the effects of rotational forces is a common cause of nonunion. Early identification of a pseudoarthrosis can be difficult; the diagnosis is usually delayed, thus the morbidity associated with this disorder is significant. Often, the nonunion is complicated by atrophy of surrounding soft tissues, muscle contracture, and stiff joints. The goals in the treatment of the nonunion are to identify and correct the underlying causes, with the primary objective being the return of function. The type of treatment depends on the classification of the pseudarthrosis, including the condition of the surrounding soft tissues, blood supply, and viability of the nonunion, location, and presence or absence of infection.
