This article presents several letters to the editor related to the aviation industry and space technology referencing articles published in the journal "Aviation Week & Space Technology." Norman R. Augustine's apt call for reversing the "losing path" of U.S. aerospace science and technology published in the journal, will likely fall on deaf ears in a nation beset with the mounting casualties and costs of a failed war policy and the uncertain prospect of American free enterprise in the globalized geopolitics and economy. Another reader was surprised to read Pierre Sparaco's column entitled "Judging the Judiciary," published in the journal, that basically said that one should forget about investigating and prosecuting potential criminal wrongdoing on the part of airlines, manufacturers or airports.

The author discusses a project that used signals from different sensors to provide input to an electronically controlled hydraulic system. An overview of the modification and use of existing signals to avoid cost and design constraints is provided. The requirements for safe operation of the hydraulic-control system are discussed. The author also discusses the problem with the system having detected the loss of a sensor signal for more than the minimum allowable time.
