We developed, implemented, and evaluated a participatory arts-based storytelling initiative called the Reflection Room project. Our aim was to investigate if visiting a Reflection Room, (1) creates opportunities for disclosing emotions and processing thoughts, (2) increases comfort discussing dying and death, and (3) supports advance care planning (ACP), conversations. In the pilot phase of the Reflection Room project, a Reflection Room was installed in 25 sites across Canada from 2016-2017. Data collection included reflection cards ( n = 463), and surveys completed by visitors upon exiting a room ( n = 271) and 3 months later ( n = 50). Analysis involved theoretically driven coding, inductive content analysis, and descriptive statistics. We found reflections contained both emotional disclosures and reflective processing. Survey data indicated visiting a Reflection Room increased comfort in thinking and talking about dying and death as well as the likelihood of engaging in ACP. Background: Falls are among the leading causes of occupational injuries for workers exposed to outdoor winter conditions such as Personal Support Workers (PSWs). Slip resistant footwear is known to reduce the risk of falls, however, it is difficult to predict how well a particular boot will perform prior to purchasing them. Our recently developed Maximum Achievable Angle (MAA) test can be used to rate footwear objectively to address this gap., Objective: To rate the slip resistance of a selection of winter footwear that meets the needs and preferences of PSWs., Methods: We selected 40 representative types of footwear based on survey results from 677 PSWs and applied our MAA test to rate slip resistance., Results: Comfort and slip resistance were rated the most important features for selecting winter footwear. Of the 40 types of footwear tested, six were found to have a good slip resistance on ice., Conclusion: The vast majority of winter footwear that meet the needs and preferences of PSWs, perform poorly on ice. Therefore, PSWs should consult our website (ratemytreads.com) for selecting appropriate footwear that will keep them safe in the winter.

Objective: To determine what organizational level indicators exist that could be used by local Ontario public health agencies to monitor and guide their progress in addressing health equity., Method: This scoping review employed Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) six-stage framework. Multiple online databases and grey literature sources were searched using a comprehensive strategy. Studies were included if they described or used indicators to assess an organization's health equity activity. Abstracted indicator descriptions were classified using the roles for public health action identified by the Canadian National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health (NCCDH). Health equity experts participated in a consultation phase to examine items extracted from the literature., Synthesis: Eighteen peer-reviewed studies and 30 grey literature reports were included. Abstracted indicators were considered for 1) relevance for organizational assessment, 2) ability to highlight equity-seeking populations, and 3) potential feasibility for application. Twenty-eight items formed the basis for consultation with 13 selected health equity experts. Items considered for retention were all noted to require significant clarification, definition and development. Those eliminated were often redundant or not an organizational level indicator., Conclusion: Few evidence-based, validated indicators to monitor and guide progress to address health inequities at the level of the local public health organization were identified. There is a need for continued development of identified indicator items, including careful operationalization of concepts and establishing clear definitions for key terms.

Drug reactions in pharmaceutical industry workers represent a quiet different problem in terms of evaluation and job ability, if related to hospitalized patients with adverse reaction to drug administration. The modern approach of GRADE (Grading Recommendation Assessment Development and Evaluation) was applied to 8 workers who had suspected occupational drug reactions, and were clinically examined in order to exclude any possible adverse event. Such a method allows to draw the relationship between adverse reaction to drugs, aetiology, risk evaluation and clinical events. Therefore, the adverse events are classified in type A (incongruous exposure), type B (hypersensitivity reactions) and not A not B (not work related). Both medical history/clinical evaluation and GRADE seem to give a correct view of the single case. Moreover, a high score suggests an occupational pathology, whilst low scores for evidence of drug reaction and occupational risk can avoid the use of diagnostic procedures.
