We study the $S = 1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the Lieb lattice accompanied by additional interactions that create frustration. The system exhibits a ferrimagnetic ground state in the absence of frustration. Further, we successfully observe a novel type of collapsing behavior of the ferrimagnetism via numerical diagonalization. The ferrimagnetic state is observed to collapse in a discontinuous manner. Furthermore, different ground states with small spontaneous magnetizations are obtained before the spontaneous magnetization finally disappears., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, to be published in J. Smart-city services are typically developed as closed systems within each city's vertical, communicating and interacting with cloud services while remaining isolated within each provider's domain. With the emergence of 5G private domains and the introduction of new M2M services focusing on autonomous systems, there is a shift from the cloud-based approach to a distributed edge computing paradigm, in a \textit{continuum} orchestration. However, an essential component is missing. Current orchestration tools, designed for cloud-based deployments, lack robust workload isolation, fail to meet timing constraints, and are not tailored to the resource-constrained nature of edge devices. Therefore, new orchestration methods are needed to support MEC environments. The work presented in this paper addresses this gap. Based on the real needs of a smart-city testbed - the Aveiro Living Lab-, we developed a set of orchestration components to facilitate the seamless orchestration of both cloud and edge-based services, encompassing both critical and non-critical services. This work extends the current Kubernetes orchestration platform to include a novel location-specific resource definition, a custom scheduler to accommodate real-time and legacy services, continuous service monitoring to detect sub-optimal states, and a refined load balancing mechanism that prioritizes the fastest response times.

Microservice architectures have gained popularity as one of the preferred architectural approaches to develop large-scale systems, replacing the monolith architecture approach. Similarly, strategic Domain-Driven Design (DDD) gained traction as the preferred architectural design approach for the development of microservices. However, DDD and its strategic patterns are open-ended by design, leading to a gap between the concepts of DDD and the design of microservices. This gap is especially evident in migration tools that identify microservices from monoliths, where candidate decompositions into microservices provide little in terms of DDD refactoring and visualization. This paper proposes a solution to this problem by extending the operational pipeline of a multi-strategy microservice identification tool, called Mono2Micro, with a DDD modeling tool that provides a language, called Context Mapper DSL (CML), for formalizing the most relevant DDD concepts. The extension maps the content of the candidate decompositions, which include clusters, entities, and functionalities, to CML constructs that represent DDD concepts such as Bounded Context, Aggregate, Entity, and Service, among others. As many public transportation systems around the world transition to electric buses, the planning and operation of fleets can be improved via tailored decision-support tools. In this work, we study the impact of jointly locating charging facilities, assigning electric buses to trips, and determining when and where to charge the buses. We propose a mixed integer linear program that co-optimizes planning and operational decisions jointly and an iterated local search heuristic to solve large-scale instances. Herein, we use a concurrent scheduler algorithm to generate an initial feasible solution, which serves as a starting point for our iterated local search algorithm. In the sequential case, we first optimize trip assignments and charging locations. Charging schedules are then determined after fixing the optimal decisions from the first level. The joint model, on the other hand, integrates charge scheduling within the local search procedure. The solution quality of the joint and sequential iterated local search models are compared for multiple real-world bus transit networks. Our results demonstrate that joint models can help further improve operating costs by 14.1% and lower total costs by about 4.1% on average compared with sequential models. In addition, energy consumption costs and contracted power capacity costs have been reduced significantly due to our integrated planning approach.

We investigate the S=1 antiferromagnetic quantum spin chain with the exchange and single-ion anisotropies in a magnetic field, using the numerical exact diagonalization of finite-size clusters, the level spectroscopy analysis, and the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. It is found that a translational symmetry broken magnetization plateau possibly appears at the half of the saturation magnetization, when the anisotropies compete with each other. The level spectroscopy analysis gives the phase diagram at half the saturation magnetization. The DMRG calculation presents the magnetization curves for some typical parameters and clarifies the spin structure in the plateau phase., Comment: 7 pages, 12 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. B

Microservices architecture has been widely adopted to develop software systems, but some of its trade-offs are often ignored. In particular, the introduction of eventual consistency has a huge impact on the complexity of the application business logic design. Recent proposals to use transactional causal consistency in serverless computing seems promising, because it reduces the number of possible concurrent execution anomalies that can occur due to the lack of isolation. We propose an extension of the aggregate concept, the basic building block of microservices design, that is transactional causal consistent compliant. A simulator for the enriched aggregates is developed to allow the experimentation of this approach with a business logic rich system. The experiment results shown a reduction of the implementation complexity. Migrating a monolith application into a microservices architecture can benefit from automation methods, which speed up the migration and improve the decomposition results. One of the current approaches that guide software architects on the migration is to group monolith domain entities into microservices, using the sequences of accesses of the monolith functionalities to the domain entities. In this paper, we enrich the sequence of accesses solution by applying code vectorization to the monolith, using the \textit{Code2Vec} neural network model. We apply \textit{Code2Vec} to vectorize the monolith functionalities. We propose two strategies to represent a functionality, one by aggregating its call graph methods vectors, and the other by extending the sequence of accesses approach with vectorization of the accessed entities. To evaluate these strategies, we compare the proposed strategies with the sequence of accesses strategy and an existing approach that uses class vectorization. We run all these strategies over a large set of codebases, and then compare the results of their decompositions in terms of cohesion, coupling, and complexity., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures

Recent research has proposed different approaches on the automated identification of candidate microservices on monolith systems, which vary on the monolith representation, similarity criteria, and quality metrics used. On the other hand, they are generally limited in the number of codebases and decompositions evaluated, and few comparisons between approaches exist. Considering the emerging trend in software engineering in techniques based on the analysis of codebases' evolution, we compare a representation based on the monolith code structure, in particular the sequences of accesses to domain entities, with representations based on the monolith development history (file changes and changes authorship). From the analysis on a total of 468k decompositions of 28 codebases, using five quality metrics that evaluate modularity, minimization of the number of transactions per functionality, and reduction of teams and communication, we conclude that the best decompositions on each metric were made by combining data from the sequences of accesses and the development history representations. We also found that the changes authorship representation of codebases with many authors achieves comparable or better results than the sequence of accesses representation of codebases with few authors with respect to minimization of the number of transactions per functionality and the reduction of teams., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures

The $S=1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the floret-pentagonal lattice with two kinds of interaction strength is studied by the numerical-diagonalization method. It is known that, near the five-ninth of the saturation magnetization, this system shows a magnetization jump that is not accompanied by magnetization plateaux. The $S=1/2$ ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic bond-alternating spin chain with the anisotropy on the ferromagnetic exchange interaction in magnetic field is investigated using the numerical diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group analyses. It is found that the nematic-spin-dominant Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid phase is induced by the external magnetic field for sufficiently large anisotropy. The $S=1/2$ quantum spin ladder system with the anisotropic ferromagnetic exchange interaction on the rung under magnetic field is investigated using the numerical diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) analyses. It is found that the nematic-spin-correlation-dominant Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) appears in some high magnetic field. It is included in the TLL phase where the two-magnon bound state is realized. For some suitable parameters, after the field-induced phase transition from this two-magnon-bound TLL phase to the single-magnon TLL one, the re-entrant transition to the two-magnon-bound TLL phase occurs, which is confirmed by the magnetization curves by the DMRG. Several phase diagrams on the plane of the coupling anisotropy versus the magnetization and the magnetic field are presented. The present result is a proposal of the candidate system which exhibits the spin nematic phase without the biquadratic interaction or the frustration., Comment: to be published in Phys. Rev. B

The magnetization plateau of the $S=2$ antiferromagnetic chain with interaction and single-ion anisotropies is investigated using the numerical diagonalization of finite-size clusters and some size scaling analyses. The previous level spectroscopy analysis indicated that two different magnetization plateau phases appear at half of the saturation magnetization. One is due to the large-$D$ mechanism and the other is due to the Haldane one. In the present study the phase diagram is extended to wider region of the anisotropies. This article presents the deployment and experimentation architecture of the Aveiro Tech City Living Lab (ATCLL) in Aveiro, Portugal. This platform comprises a large number of Internet-of-Things devices with communication, sensing and computing capabilities. The communication infrastructure, built on fiber and Millimeter-wave (mmWave) links, integrates a communication network with radio terminals (WiFi, ITS-G5, C-V2X, 5G and LoRa(WAN)), multiprotocol, spread throughout 44 connected points of access in the city. Additionally, public transportation has also been equipped with communication and sensing units. All these points combine and interconnect a set of sensors, such as mobility (Radars, Lidars, video cameras) and environmental sensors. Combining edge computing and cloud management to deploy the services and manage the platform, and a data platform to gather and process the data, the living lab supports a wide range of services and applications: IoT, intelligent transportation systems and assisted driving, environmental monitoring, emergency and safety, among others. This article describes the architecture, implementation and deployment to make the overall platform to work and integrate researchers and citizens. Moreover, it showcases some examples of the performance metrics achieved in the city infrastructure, the data that can be collected, visualized and used to build services and applications to the cities, and, finally, different use cases in the mobility and safety scenarios.
