Abstract

Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a very rare subtype of malignant lymphoma that is difficult to diagnose. Cases of myocardial infarction caused by IVLBCL are even rarer. Herein, we report a case presenting with heart failure and delayed enhancement in the hypokinetic cardiac septum on contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. Myocardial biopsy showed large B-cell lymphoma cells in the microvessels within the myocardium. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of imaging findings of cardiac involvement in IVLBCL.

Data presented in this article are related to our article entitled “Unilateral posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome: A case report” [1]. Cases of Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) involving unilateral lesions are very rare. We searched the PubMed database using keywords such as PRES, unilateral, and asymmetric and found a small number of cases to include in our review. We summarized the characteristics of these reported cases of unilateral PRES, including our case. Abstract

Abstract

Malignant peritoneal mesotheliomas (MPMs) are rare and progressive tumors, which may present similarly to primary peritoneal carcinoma or ovarian carcinoma (OC). The current study reports two cases of MPM that initially presented with the features of OC, for which paired box 8 (PAX8) immunostaining was found to be useful for diagnosis. The two patients were women, aged 58 and 56 years, respectively. The primary presenting symptoms and clinical findings included prolonged abdominal pain, abdominal swelling and cough. The two cases were initially diagnosed as OC and were treated with primary debulking surgery. The patient in case 1 had no history of asbestos exposure, while the patient in case 2 did. Final diagnoses were determined based on histological and immunohistochemical results, which included negative PAX8 immunostaining, and which were consistent with MPM. The present cases demonstrated that PAX8 negativity may be a useful diagnostic biomarker for differentiating MPM from OC.
