Objetivo: Descrever o conhecimento e as práticas desenvolvidas por enfermeiras da atenção primária frente ao cuidado preventivo e curativo de úlceras em pés de pessoas diabéticas. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, realizado com 11 enfermeiras de um município do nordeste brasileiro. As entrevistas ocorreram em abril de 2022, guiadas por formulário semiestruturado. Para organização dos dados, foi seguido a análise de conteúdo temática. O estudo obedeceu aos aspectos éticos. Resultados: Emergiram quatro categorias: Conhecimento focado na úlcera em pé de pessoas diabéticas; compreendendo o risco para úlceras em pé de pessoas diabéticas; prática assistencial curativista da úlcera em pé de pessoas diabéticas; e, prática educativa permeada por dificuldades. Considerações Finais: O conhecimento das enfermeiras mostrou-se limitado e focado no acometimento da úlcera, sendo suas práticas pautadas na cura desta manifestação. Frente a isso, o estudo contribui para apontar a necessidade de ampliação do conhecimento e qualificação das práticas profissionais.

Mangiferin, a glucosyl xanthone, is a plant metabolite with promising nootropic and ergogenic properties. However, its poor and inconsistent systemic bioavailability limits its therapeutic potential. Additionally, the pharmacokinetics of mangiferin from mango leaf extract formulations remain uncharacterized in humans. This study validated a UHPLC-MS/MS method and conducted a human pharmacokinetic study approved by an ethics committee. The bioavailability of mangiferin and its monosodium salt was assessed from two standardized mango leaf extracts: MLE60, standardized to 60% mangiferin but practically insoluble in water, and MLES, the water-soluble monosodium salt form, also standardized to 60%. Twelve participants (six females) received oral doses of each extract in a crossover design with a 7-day washout period. Plasma analysis showed significantly higher AUC and Cmax values with MLES than MLE60, while Tmax and T1/2 were similar. MLES demonstrated a 2.44-fold increase in AUC0–24h compared to MLE60 (p = 0.0029 **), indicating improved bioavailability. This study highlights the salification method as a simple strategy to enhance mangiferin bioavailability, enabling broader applications in beverages and other products where solubility is a limitation. Macrobrachium acanthurus is an amphidromous palaemonid shrimp exploited by artisanal fishing in Brazil that presents limited published information on its population biology. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the spatial distribution and fecundity of M. acanthurus in the Jequitinhonha River (BA). Collections occurred at four points in the river downstream of the Itapebi Hydroelectric Powerplant (P1–P4). The abundance and size of the demographic categories analysed (male morphotypes, non-ovigerous females, and ovigerous females) and fecundity were compared among points. We also examined the relationship between female body size and fecundity. A total of 938 individuals were collected during the sampling period. The highest abundances were observed downstream (P3 and P4). The sizes of males and ovigerous females were greater at points farthest upstream. Three male morphotypes were identified, and their proportions varied among points. Fecundity was higher upstream, and there was a positive correlation between female size and number of eggs. All population parameters indicate a longitudinal gradient towards the estuary, with strong evidence of amphidromy. This is the first study with a polymorphic species to consider morphotypes as a population structure component. The results represent an important contribution to a better understanding of the amphidromous life cycle of palaemonid shrimp. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Inguinal lymph node dissection plays an important role in the management of melanoma, penile and vulval cancer. Inguinal lymph node dissection is associated with various intraoperative and postoperative complications with significant heterogeneity in classification and reporting. This lack of standardization challenges efforts to study and report inguinal lymph node dissection outcomes. The aim of this study was to devise a system to standardize the classification and reporting of inguinal lymph node dissection perioperative complications by creating a worldwide collaborative, the complications and adverse events in lymphadenectomy of the inguinal area (CALI) group. Methods A modified 3-round Delphi consensus approach surveyed a worldwide group of experts in inguinal lymph node dissection for melanoma, penile and vulval cancer. The group of experts included general surgeons, urologists and oncologists (gynaecological and surgical). The survey assessed expert agreement on inguinal lymph node dissection perioperative complications. Panel interrater agreement and consistency were assessed as the overall percentage agreement and Cronbach's α. Results Forty-seven experienced consultants were enrolled: 26 (55.3%) urologists, 11 (23.4%) surgical oncologists, 6 (12.8%) general surgeons and 4 (8.5%) gynaecology oncologists. Based on their expertise, 31 (66%), 10 (21.3%) and 22 (46.8%) of the participants treat penile cancer, vulval cancer and melanoma using inguinal lymph node dissection respectively; 89.4% (42 of 47) agreed with the definitions and inclusion as part of the inguinal lymph node dissection intraoperative complication group, while 93.6% (44 of 47) agreed that postoperative complications should be subclassified into five macrocategories. Unanimous agreement (100%, 37 of 37) was achieved with the final standardized classification system for reporting inguinal lymph node dissection complications in melanoma, vulval cancer and penile cancer. Conclusion The complications and adverse events in lymphadenectomy of the inguinal area classification system has been developed as a tool to standardize the assessment and reporting of complications during inguinal lymph node dissection for the treatment of melanoma, vulval and penile cancer. ABSTRACT Objective: to identify factors inherent in hospital care that favor urinary incontinence in the elderly. Method: an integrative review with Scopus, CINAHL and Pubmed searches. Includes original articles, no language restriction, published between 2008 and 2018. Rated level of recommendation and level of evidence were assessed using the Oxford Center for Evidence-Based Medicine classification. Exploited content through thematic analysis in light of the Donabedian model. Results: 13 articles constituted the sample. There were factors such as the unjustified and indiscriminate use of devices such as the geriatric diaper; hospital structure adversely affecting the needs of the elderly; and deficit in screening, risk identification and underreporting of the problem favor urinary incontinence in the hospitalized elderly. Conclusion: modifiable factors related to hospital structures and care processes favor both the onset and worsening of urinary incontinence in the elderly.

Objetivo: descrever a experiência exitosa do tratamento de uma lesão por pressão utilizando técnica de desbridamento instrumental conservador pela enfermeira da Atenção Primária à Saúde associado ao tratamento com coberturas especiais. Metodologia: trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, exploratória, qualitativa, do tipo estudo de caso de um paciente com ferida complexa. Realizado na USF Alto de Coutos 2, do Distrito Sanitário do Subúrbio Ferroviário no município de Salvador, Bahia. Os dados coletados por meio de observação, entrevista e análise de prontuário ao longo do tratamento. Foram respeitados os aspectos éticos do Conselho Nacional de Saúde e a pesquisa aprovada pelo comitê de Ética da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Resultados: A paciente apresentou lesão por pressão em região sacral, coberta por necrose de coagulação. Foi realizado desbridamento instrumental conservador do tecido necrótico, sem sangramentos ou outras intercorrências, associado ao tratamento com coberturas especiais. Após 72 dias de acompanhamento, mediante avaliações e intervenções da enfermagem, considerando aspectos da lesão, evidenciou-se crescimento do tecido de granulação e cicatrização quase que completa. Conclusão: o trabalho da enfermagem através do desbridamento instrumental aliado ao uso de coberturas especiais mostrou-se incisivo e decisivo para o processo de cicatrização.

Objetivo: Relatar a experiência do tratamento de úlcera de pé diabético realizado em domicílio na cidade de Salvador Bahia no Brasil e retratar a importância da assistência de enfermagem de forma sistematizada para um bom prognóstico da lesão. Métodos: Estudo descritivo, do tipo relato de experiência, que apresenta o tratamento de úlcera de pé diabético realizado em domicílio na cidade de Salvador Bahia no período de 26 semanas. Resultados: Inicialmente foi realizada a inspeção do membro inferior e avaliação da lesão para identificar as suas características e para seleção da cobertura. Foi utilizado como cobertura primária: compressa de polihexametileno biguanida (PHBM) 0,2% com troca a cada 48 horas e Hidrogel com alginato com troca a cada 48h. A epitelização completa da lesão aconteceu em 26 semanas de acompanhamento de enfermagem. Conclusão: A importância do cuidado integral durante a assistência hospitalar, bem como, do acompanhamento da usuária e da ferida no âmbito domiciliar pela equipe de enfermagem, assim como a educação continuada oferecida a esta paciente, colaboraram para a eficácia do tratamento e a qualidade da assistência prestada.
