Rolling stock manufacturers are finding innovative structural solutions to improve the quality and reliability of railway vehicle components. Structural optimization processes represent an effective strategy for reducing manufacturing costs, resulting in geometries that are easier to design and produce combined with innovative materials. In this framework, the present paper proposes the development of a design methodology to innovate a railway bolster beam using topological optimization techniques, assessing the effect of different manufacturing constraints oriented to the casting process. A comprehensive numerical testing campaign was conducted to establish an effective testing procedure. Two different designs were obtained and compared, statically and dynamically, evaluating the difference in terms of mass, mechanical performance and manufacturability. Reductions in stress values up to 70% were observed, along with an 8% increase in the first natural frequency of the component, leading to beneficial effects in terms of stiffness. The methodology shows encouraging results to streamline the design of complex casting components, moving to a new generation of structural railway components.

This paper reports the preliminary experimental studies carried out on an innovative sliding bearing made of polycrystalline diamond, a material with excellent mechanical and chemical characteristics, used mainly in the drilling industry. Bearings crafted from this material do not necessitate lubrication due to their extremely low coefficient of friction and high resistance to wear. For this reason, they are prime candidates for replacing traditional oil bearings, eliminating the need for auxiliary systems and thereby reducing environmental risks. In this regard, an innovative test rig was designed, capable of reaching speeds up to 6000 rpm both in vertical and horizontal configurations thanks to a novel tilting frame. Moreover, with a high modularity it was possible to test three different kinds of radial PCD bearings. Dynamic data were acquired and elaborated to evaluate orbits, acceleration and absorbed torque, to finally compare these different configurations to better understand how dynamic behavior is influenced by bearings’ geometrical characteristics.

Energy is one of the most important components of human life. In the livestock industry, problems occur when there is a power outage so that the incubator cannot function. Solar energy is one of the renewable energy sources that convert solar radiation into electricity based on the photovoltaic effect and can be a solution to the above problems. In addition, another problem is that the egg incubator used by farmers still uses a manual system, the solution to the problem by utilizing IoT technology for monitoring and control systems for temperature, humidity, and egg rotation. the purpose of the research is to develop a smart incubator system to automate IoT-based temperature, humidity, and egg rotation systems so that they can be monitored more effectively using solar power as a power source. This research uses observational and quantitative methods with data collection techniques carried out through observation. The result of this research is the design of an IoT-based automatic incubator system using 30 WP solar panels as an energy source. In the measurement of the temperature monitoring IoT system in real-time, an error value of 0.93 was obtained with a temperature accuracy value of 99.07 which was declared very good, in the blynk test with a thermometer an error value of 2.92 was obtained with an accuracy value of 97.08 which was declared very good, in the humidity test an error value of 6.9 was obtained with an accuracy value of 93.1 which was declared quite good.

Solar photovoltaic is a renewable energy that has great potential and is quite cheap. However, solar cells are sensitive to temperature through the parameters of their semiconductor materials. The optimal solar photovoltaic temperature range is 25◦C- 40◦C. Based on the study, the optimal temperature of the solar photovoltaic system is 41◦C. The problem is that solar photovoltaics do not produce power optimally when the surface temperature reaches 41◦C so the power produced decreases. The cooling system is one solution to overcome temperature problems in solar photovoltaics. The purpose is to design an automatic cooling system based on water and air spray using Arduino Uno which operates only at solar photovoltaic surface temperatures above 41◦C and compare the working effectiveness of the cooling system using water spray and air when the surface of the solar photovoltaic reaches maximum heat and does not work optimally. Methods. Design and develop a water and air-spray-based cooling system using an experimental process. Results. The automatic cooling system has been designed using a water spray cooling method and a DC fan-based air cooling method. The water spray cooling method can reduce the temperature optimally with an average temperature of 38.67◦C and the air cooling method can reduce the temperature optimally with an average temperature of 39.5◦C. The water spray cooling method had an efficiency value of 36% and the DC fan-based water cooling method had an efficiency value of 16%.

The fabrication of transparent conducting electrodes (TCEs) is dominated by indium tin oxide (ITO). Some efforts are being made to find alternative materials as a substitute for ITO. Cu nanowire (CuNWs) is an equivalent candidate as a replacement for ITO but has a weakness that is easily oxidized. In this contribution, we report an increase in the performance of CuNWs, which can reduce the effect of oxidation. In this study, we provide a coating of CuNWs using PVP, PVA, and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The morphology, formation structure, and conductivity of CuNWs have been investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and IV meter. The average length and diameter of the CuNWs were 5.5 μm and 120 nm, respectively. The transparent conducting has a stable conductivity after coating with PVP, PVA and AgNPs. The application of transparent conducting electrodes are sensors, electronic devices, solar cells, and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).

ABSTRACT: Objectives: The main aim of this study was to evaluate the antibiofilm activity of cefiderocol alone and in combination with imipenem vs. sessile cells of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, assessing a potential synergistic bactericidal effect. Methods: Ten P. aeruginosa clinical isolates from infected implants and bloodstream were included in the study. Cefiderocol was tested alone and in combination with imipenem on 24-h-old P. aeruginosa biofilm formed on porous glass beads. For each antibiotic formulation, minimum bactericidal biofilm concentration (MBBC), defined as the lowest concentration that determined a reduction of at least 3 log10 CFU/mL compared with the untreated control, was evaluated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the biofilm of P. aeruginosa treated with cefiderocol, imipenem, or their combination. Results: Cefiderocol and imipenem were tested alone on P. aeruginosa biofilm and a reasonable reduction in the number of viable cells was observed, especially at high drug concentrations tested. The synergistic effect of cefiderocol in combination with imipenem was evaluated for five selected isolates. Cotreatment with the two drugs led to a remarkable reduction of cell viability by resulting in synergistic bactericidal activity in all tested strains and in synergistic eradicating activity in only one isolate. SEM analysis revealed that, in cefiderocol-treated biofilm, bacterial cells became more elongated than in the untreated control, forming filaments in which bacterial division seems to be inhibited. Conclusions: Cefiderocol exhibited an encouraging antibiofilm activity against tested strains, representing a valid option for the treatment of P. aeruginosa biofilm-associated infections, especially when administered in combination with imipenem.

Melalui pelatihan yang melibatkan 24 guru dan staf, peserta diperkenalkan pada fitur-fitur Canva, diikuti dengan demonstrasi, diskusi, dan praktek langsung. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan keterampilan guru dalam membuat materi ajar yang lebih menarik dan efektif. Dengan didukung oleh buku panduan, pelatihan ini berhasil mendorong penggunaan Canva secara berkelanjutan dalam proses pembelajaran, sehingga meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran di sekolah tersebut.

Structural optimization processes represent an effective strategy for reducing manufacturing costs, resulting in geometries easier to design and produce. In this framework, the present paper proposes a new methodology to design a railway metro bogie frame, combining structural–topological optimization methods and sensitivity analysis. In addition, manufacturing constraints were included to make the component design suitable for production through sand-casting. A robust sensitivity analysis has highlighted the most critical load conditions acting on the bogie frame. Its effectiveness was verified by carrying out two different structural optimizations based on different loadings. Two equivalent designs were obtained. Computational times were positively reduced by about 57%. The maximum value of stress was reduced about 23%. This new methodology has shown encouraging results to streamline the design process of this complex mechanical system, allowing researchers to also include manufacturing requirements.

Health literacy plays a pivotal role in shaping an individual's adoption of a healthy lifestyle, particularly among students transitioning into adolescence and adulthood. Hence, integrating health literacy into educational curricula is imperative. For instance, the study of the human kidney excretory system, which necessitates the use of measuring instruments, can serve as a platform to enhance students' health literacy skills within the realm of biology education. This study was conducted to develop and determine the feasibility of human kidney health literacy instruments. The research method used in this study is ADDIE development research which consists of 5 stages, including (1) preliminary needs analysis (2) product design (3) Development (4) Implementation, and (5) evaluation. The trial results stated that the instrument was feasible to use with a linguist assessment of 9.8% very feasible category, and a material expert of 91% very feasible category. The empirical validity test was conducted with a limited trial to 47 students of Al-Azhar 9 Yogyakarta High School and the results showed that 92% of the items were declared valid with a high reliability value of 0.7. This study produced 16 statement items on the attitude aspect, 6 items on the knowledge aspect, and items on the skill aspect. The total question items produced in this study were 24 question items that were valid and feasible to use as a tool to improve the quality of education.

The performance of solar panels is greatly affected by high temperatures, so a cooling system is required to improve their efficiency. Various cooling methods have been explored, including passive cooling, active cooling, and hybrid cooling systems. This research applies the passive cooling method by designing a solar panel cooling system based on natural circulation using ground source energy. This method relies solely on natural cycles so that the system can operate sustainably. The design of this system uses the experimental method. Analysis was conducted to compare the power output generated by solar panels with a cooling system using ground source energy and solar panels without a cooling system. The test results show that the system is able to reduce the surface temperature of the solar panel with an average temperature of 41,80% compared to the solar panel without a cooling system with an average temperature of 43,08%. In addition, the solar panel cooling system using ground source energy is able to obtain a power efficiency of 8,24% with maximum power reaching 72Watt / Day.

Body health is essential for supporting various aspects of human life. In making a diagnosis, anamnesis (communication to obtain information about the disease) is followed by a physical examination, which includes general assessments. Key parameters for determining health conditions are heart rate, oxygen saturation, and body temperature. This paper presents the design of a Smart Bracelet Heart Health Monitoring System based on the Internet of Things (IoT) using Telegram for remote health monitoring. A quantitative experimental method was employed for system design and data analysis. The system's performance was compared with data from a Pulse Oximeter and a Thermogun. The Smart Bracelet Heart Health Monitoring System achieved heart rate measurements with an error margin of 3.8%, oxygen saturation with an error of 2.9%, and body temperature with an error of 2.7%. The measurement results are displayed on an OLED LCD and transmitted to Telegram. The system classifies patient status into three categories: Normal (heart rate > 80 BPM), Abnormal (heart rate 70-80 BPM), and Emergency (heart rate < 70 BPM). In case of an emergency or abnormal condition, data is automatically sent. Additionally, data can be manually sent by pressing a push button on the smart bracelet or sending the text "INFO" to the Telegram bot. The data transmission speed ranges from 2 to 22 seconds. The device also features GPS functionality with high positional accuracy.

Introduction Medical readiness is of paramount concern for active-duty military providers. Low volumes of complex trauma in military treatment facilities has driven the armed forces to embed surgeons in high-volume civilian centers to maintain clinical readiness. It is unclear what impact this strategy may have on patient outcomes in these centers. We sought to compare emergent trauma laparotomy (ETL) outcomes between active-duty Air Force Special Operations Surgical Team (SOST) general surgeons and civilian faculty at an American College of Surgeons verified level 1 trauma center with a well-established military-civilian partnership.Methods Retrospective review of a prospectively maintained, single-center database of ETL from 2019 to 2022 was performed. ETL was defined as laparotomy from trauma bay within 90 min of patient arrival. The primary outcome was to assess for all-cause mortality differences at multiple time points.Results 514 ETL were performed during the study period. 22% (113 of 514) of patients were hypotensive (systolic blood pressure ≤90 mm Hg) on arrival. Six SOST surgeons performed 43 ETL compared with 471 ETL by civilian faculty. There were no differences in median ED length of stay (27 min vs 22 min; p=0.21), but operative duration was significantly longer for SOST surgeons (129 min vs 110 min; p=0.01). There were no differences in intraoperative (5% vs 2%; p=0.30), 6-hour (3% vs 5%; p=0.64), 24-hour (5% vs 5%; p=1.0), or in-hospital mortality rates (5% vs 8%; p=0.56) between SOST and civilian surgeons. SOST surgeons did not significantly impact the odds of 24-hour mortality on multivariable analysis (OR 0.78; 95% CI 0.10, 6.09).Conclusion Trauma-related mortality for patients undergoing ETL was not impacted by SOST surgeons when compared with their civilian counterparts. Military surgeons may benefit from the valuable clinical experience and mentorship of experienced civilian trauma surgeons at high volume trauma centers without creating a deficit in the quality of care provided.Level of evidence Level IV, therapeutic/care management.

Abstract Background Actinomyces turicensis is rarely responsible of clinically relevant infections in human. Infection is often misdiagnosed as malignancy, tuberculosis, or nocardiosis, therefore delaying the correct identification and treatment. Here we report a case of a 55-year-old immunocompetent adult with brain abscess caused by A. turicensis. A systematic review of A. turicensis infections was performed. Methods A systematic review of the literature was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The databases MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, Clinicaltrials.gov and Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health (CADTH) were searched for all relevant literature. Results Search identified 47 eligible records, for a total of 67 patients. A. turicensis infection was most frequently reported in the anogenital area (n = 21), causing acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) including Fournier’s gangrene (n = 12), pulmonary infections (n = 8), gynecological infections (n = 6), cervicofacial district infections (n = 5), intrabdominal or breast infections (n = 8), urinary tract infections (n = 3), vertebral column infections (n = 2) central nervous system infections (n = 2), endocarditis (n = 1). Infections were mostly presenting as abscesses (n = 36), with or without concomitant bacteremia (n = 7). Fever and local signs of inflammation were present in over 60% of the cases. Treatment usually involved surgical drainage followed by antibiotic therapy (n = 51). Antimicrobial treatments most frequently included amoxicillin (+clavulanate), ampicillin/sulbactam, metronidazole or cephalosporins. Eighty-nine percent of the patients underwent a full recovery. Two fatal cases were reported. Conclusions To the best of our knowledge, we hereby present the first case of a brain abscess caused by A. turicensis and P. mirabilis. Brain involvement by A. turicensis is rare and may result from hematogenous spread or by dissemination of a contiguous infection. The infection might be difficult to diagnose and therefore treatment may be delayed. Nevertheless, the pathogen is often readily treatable. Diagnosis of actinomycosis is challenging and requires prompt microbiological identification. Surgical excision and drainage and antibiotic treatment usually allow for full recovery.

Stevia rebaudiana is a high-value crop because of its metabolites, such as steviol glycosides. However, it only produces a few seeds, resulting in low productivity. Therefore, an appropriate propagation method is required to enhance its productivity. This study aimed to assess stevia’s morphological and physiological characteristics upon treatment with three doses of Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) [mg/L] through stem-cutting propagation. The cuttings were treated with IAA at 0, 20, 40 and 60 mg/L by dipping them in the IAA solution for 1 minute, then planting in growth media (garden soil, organic compost and coco peat with a ratio of 2:1:1) and keeping them in the greenhouse. The survival percentage, root length and number, plant height, leaf number, total chlorophylls, and stomata length and number were assessed in the 3rd week. The application of 40 mg/L IAA resulted in a significant improvement in all parameters. However, IAA treatment also causes stomata abnormalities. This result suggested that stem cutting and IAA treatment significantly contribute to stevia propagation.

Mycobacterial infections caused by tuberculous and non-tuberculous strains pose significant treatment challenges, especially among immunocompromised patients. Conventional antibiotic therapies often fail due to bacterial resistance, highlighting the need for alternative therapeutic strategies. Mycobacteriophages are emerging as promising candidates for the treatment of mycobacteria. This review comprehensively explores phage isolation, characterization, and clinical applications. Despite the need for more extensive in vitro and in vivo studies, existing evidence shows their efficacy against both sensitive and antibiotic-resistant mycobacterial strains, even under disease-mimicking conditions, particularly when used in cocktails to minimize resistance development. Mycobacteriophages can be engineered and evolved to overcome limitations associated with lysogeny and narrow host range. Furthermore, they exhibit activity in ex vivo and in vivo infection models, successfully targeting mycobacteria residing within macrophages. Delivery methods such as bacterial and liposomal vectors facilitate their entry into human cells. Considering the potential for phage-treatment-induced bacterial resistance, as described in this review, the combination of mycobacteriophages with antibiotics shows efficacy in countering mycobacterial growth, both in the laboratory setting and in animal models. Interestingly, phage-encoded products can potentiate the activity of relevant antibiotics. Finally, the application of phages in different compassionate cases is reported. The positive outcomes indicate that phage therapy represents a promising solution for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant mycobacteria.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between entrepreneurship education and students' intentions and tests for moderating effects of students' perceived experience and family entrepreneurial orientation, which may strengthen or weaken the effect of entrepreneurship education on intention. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected through a questionnaire from 584 students in the vocational program at an Indonesian public university. Entrepreneurship education was measured using instruments by Walter and Block (2016) that evaluated the entrepreneurship education provided by faculty. Entrepreneurial intention used a measurement by Vamvaka (2020), which measured students' choice of intention, entrepreneurial career commitment and nascent entrepreneurship. Findings: Entrepreneurship education has a positive association with students' entrepreneurial intentions. The results also evidence higher entrepreneurial intention levels in students from families oriented toward and experienced in entrepreneurship. The results also reveal that student experience and having friends who become entrepreneurs reduce entrepreneurial intention, but the difference is not statistically significant. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of this survey is that it was drawn from a single university in Indonesia with only domestic students, whilst the study was also designed cross-sectional. Therefore, the generalisability of the results is still limited. This study uses a single item for measuring friends and own influences, which only measure personal experiences. A more multidimensional measure of family, friends and own influence can be further developed to gain more robust results supporting these findings. Practical implications: The study contributes to understanding the role of family-related variables, particularly family entrepreneurial orientation and experiences, on the development of entrepreneurship education and intention in emerging global market forces. Through family engagement in entrepreneurship education, a family can boost students' entrepreneurial intention by delivering various capitals (e.g. business value, financial and social capital) and providing practical learning. The results imply the necessity to conduct new subjects, courses or university programmes that can include family-related business in entrepreneurship education. Originality/value: Despite the expansion of research related to entrepreneurship education and intention, the relationships between perceived experience, family entrepreneurial orientation and students' entrepreneurial intentions have not been adequately studied, particularly in Indonesia. This work contributes to the existing knowledge of entrepreneurship education by providing two moderator variables that may boost entrepreneurial intention: perceived experience and family entrepreneurial orientation. This work demonstrated how perceived experience and family orientation interact with entrepreneurship education and intention.

Today's technological advancements in the financial sector have given rise to several new ideas; among them, online loans are fintech-based. Online lending is a public financial solution that facilitates the provision of cheap, transparent, and efficient financial services. The purpose of this study is to examine the many elements that have an impact on the willingness of Muslim students in Soloraya who use online loan applications. The research method used is the quantitative method. Primary data was used in this study. The questionnaire was given to 96 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling using Lemeshow's algorithm. With data analysis using SPSS V.26 statistical assistance. The results of this study indicate that the variables of security, hedonic motivation, and loan disbursement speed have a significant effect, while the ease of use variable has no significant effect on the attractiveness of Muslim students in using online loan applications in Soloraya. Therefore, to decide to use online loan application services, fundamental factors are needed. However, ease of use is not fully a fundamental factor in attracting Muslim students to use online loan application services in Soloraya.
