Abstract

In manufacturing processes, surface inspection is a key requirement for quality assessment and damage localization. Due to this, automated surface anomaly detection has become a promising area of research in various industrial inspection systems. A particular challenge in industries with large-scale components, like aircraft and heavy machinery, is inspecting large parts with very small defect dimensions. Moreover, these parts can be of curved shapes. To address this challenge, we present a 2-stage multi-modal inspection pipeline with visual and tactile sensing. Our approach combines the best of both visual and tactile sensing by identifying and localizing defects using a global view (vision) and using the localized area for tactile scanning for identifying remaining defects. To benchmark our approach, we propose a novel real-world dataset with multiple metallic defect types per image, collected in the production environments on real aerospace manufacturing parts, as well as online robot experiments in two environments. Our approach is able to identify 85% defects using Stage I and identify 100% defects after Stage II. Abstract

Background and Objectives: The aim of the following cross-sectional study is to determine the association between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles and outcomes in patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods and Materials: Genotyping was made using the Axiom Human Genotyping SARS-CoV-2 Research Array. Statistical analysis was made with Fisher's exact test and multivariable logistic regression, adjusted for sex, age and clinical variables. Results: Of 190 patients, 11.1% were discharged from the ED; 57.9% were admitted to the COVID-19 ward, without intensive care unit (ICU) admission; 15.3% survived an ICU admission; and 15.8% died. After multivariable analysis, two HLA alleles protected against hospital admission (HLA-C*05:01, adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 0.2, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.055–0.731; and HLA-DQB1*02:02, aOR 0.046, CI 0.002–0.871) and one was associated with higher risk for ICU admission or death (HLA-DQA1*05:01, aOR 2.517, CI 1.086–5.833). Conclusions: In this population, HLA-C*05:01 and HLA-DQB1*02:02 are associated with a protective effect against hospital admission and HLA-DQA1*05:01 is associated with higher risk of ICU admission or death in the multivariable analysis. Abstract

We prove the following asymptotic behavior for solutions to the generalized Becker-D\"oring system for general initial data: under a detailed balance assumption and in situations where density is conserved in time, there is a critical density $\rho_s$ such that solutions with an initial density $\rho_0 \leq \rho_s$ converge strongly to the equilibrium with density $\rho_0$, and solutions with initial density $\rho_0 > \rho_s$ converge (in a weak sense) to the equilibrium with density $\rho_s$. This extends the previous knowledge that this behavior happens under more restrictive conditions on the initial data. The main tool is a new estimate on the tail of solutions with density below the critical density.
