The power required for hybrid vehicle traction must be well distributed between the different power sources to improve the parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) performance. Energy management is carried out by applying a control strategy in the vehicle's traction chain. Energy management control strategies (EMCS) have different performance and can be classified into different categories. The objective of this article is to compare the fuel consumption and the polluting emissions of a PHEV controlled by two types of EMCS, the electric assistance control strategy (EACS) and the fuzzy logic control strategy (FLCS), in urban and highway driving cycles. The EMCS must, in all cases and at all times, ensure an efficient distribution of power between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the electric motor (EM), to meet energy needs and improve vehicle performance by minimizing gas emissions and fuel consumption.

Hybrid electric vehicles have investigated as an alternative form of transportation to minimize environment problems. They offer multiple advantages over conventional vehicles including, among others, decreased fuel consumption and reduced emissions of harmful greenhouse gasses. The objective of the present study is to compare fuel consumption and gas emissions of both parallel and series hybrid electric vehicles by means of an advanced vehicle simulator. These two chosen vehicle types share the same dimensions and have the same mass. The simulation results in city and highway driving cycles were reported and compared and discussed. Finally, some conclusions were drawn and some perspectives of future work were outlined.

In order to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption, automakers are working to build new eco-friendly vehicles, such as hybrid vehicles. Hybrid electric vehicles have significant advantages over conventional cars, especially in terms of ecology. This article focuses on series hybrid electric vehicle (SHEV) as a means of transportation with promising potential for reducing environmental problems. The purpose of this paper is to compare fuel consumption and gas emissions for a SHEV controlled by two different types of control strategies, the thermostat control strategy (TCS) and the power follower control strategy (PFCS), in urban and highway driving cycles. The control strategy must determine, at all times, the power distribution between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the battery, so as to meet energy needs and other constraints, as well as the fuel consumption and harmful emissions are minimized. Simulation of SHEV was performed using the ADVISOR software.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are exceptionally promising thanks to their many advantages compared with other types of electrical machines. Indeed, PMSMs are characterized by their important torque density, light weight, high air gap flux density, high acceleration, high efficiency and strong power-to-weight ratio. A surface-mounted PMSM (SPMSM) is used in this work. The SPMSM is built using a 2D finite element method (FEM). Cogging torque, torque ripples and back-EMF are examined during the design process in order to obtain sinusoidal back-EMF and to minimise torque ripples which are one of the major problems with PMSMs. Two procedures are used to reduce the cogging torque of SPMSM: the effect of slot opening and the influence of skewing the stator laminations. Cogging torque factor tc and the torque ripples factor tr have been calculated to compare the two configurations (open slots and closed slots). Then, the configuration with closed slots is utilised with skewing the stator laminations for different angle 0°, 10° and 15°.
