Knee arthroplasty, commonly performed to treat osteoarthritis, necessitates precise surgical techniques for optimal outcomes. The introduction of systems such as the Persona Knee System (Zimmer Biomet, Warsaw, IN, USA) has revolutionized knee arthroplasty, promising enhanced precision and better patient outcomes. This study investigates the application of robotic planning specifically in knee prosthetic surgeries, with a focus on Persona Knee System prostheses. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 300 patients who underwent knee arthroplasty using the Persona Knee System between January 2020 and November 2023, including demographic data, surgical parameters, and preoperative imaging. Robotic planning was employed to simulate surgical procedures. The planning process integrated preoperative imaging data from a specific program adopted for conducting digital preoperative planning, and statistical analyses were conducted to assess correlations between patient characteristics and surgical outcomes. Out of 300 patients, 85% presented with minor deformities, validating the feasibility of robotic planning. Robotic planning demonstrated precise prediction of optimal arthroplasty sizes and alignment, closely aligning with preoperative imaging data. This study highlights the potential benefits of robotic planning in knee arthroplasty surgeries, particularly in cases with minor deformities. By leveraging preoperative imaging data and integrating advanced robotic technologies, surgeons can improve precision and efficacy in knee arthroplasty. Moreover, robotic technology allows for a reduced level of constraint in the intraoperative choice between Posterior-Stabilized and Constrained Posterior-Stabilized liners compared with an imageless navigated procedure. Introduction: The use of cementation in total hip arthroplasty (THA) has evolved over the years, with a notable shift toward cementless and hybrid techniques. The aim of this study is to evaluate data from an Italian registry on the type of fixation used in THA implants and their corresponding survival rates in a large patient cohort with long-term follow-up, and to compare these data with the most recent literature. Methods: From January 2000 to December 2020, a total of 137,256 primary THA procedures were performed, of which 10.4% were fixed with stem cementation. There were 4857 revision implants, of which 11.4% were implanted with stem cementation. Results: The trend showing a significant shift toward cementless fixation methods is particularly pronounced in younger patients, with cementless implants comprising 99.5% of procedures in patients under 40 years of age. As patient age increases, the use of cemented or hybrid fixation methods becomes more common. This trend aligns with existing literature, in which cementation is often preferred for elderly patients due to concerns about bone quality and the potential for better immediate fixation provided by cemented stems. At 10 years, the implant that showed the highest survival rate was the fully cemented implant, with a rate of 94.8%. This study also reports the causes of failure based on the different fixation techniques. Conclusions: The development of standardized guidelines that consider patient-specific factors such as age, bone quality, and comorbidities in the choice of fixation type could help reduce variability in practice and improve overall outcomes in hip arthroplasty. Ecoacoustics investigates natural and anthropogenic sounds and their relationship with the environment. It is a powerful tool for biodiversity monitoring, management and conservation and also with regards to the global climate change issue. This study, based on data collected in 2017, describes for the first time the soundscape of the Sasso Fratino Integral Nature Reserve (INR) in Italy, an area characterised by the almost absence of anthropogenic noise, where we selected three recording sites within and adjacent the reserve. We adopted a double approach: one qualitative, based on visual screening of compact daily spectrograms; the other quantitative, by generating acoustic indices. In general, all sites are characterised by quiet nights and very acoustically dense daylight hours, with a composite biophony occupying the range 1500–9000 Hz. Moreover, the principal component analysis shows that the sites inside and outside the reserve are well differentiated and distinctly clustered, which could be due to their spatial heterogeneity and to the biophony's different contributions. In this case, our results agree with the recognition of sonic patterns, or sonotopes, related to the different overlapping of biotic and abiotic sonic agents. The long-term acoustic data collection allows a reference repository to be built for monitoring the INR's biophony status and evolution: as any human presence or intervention is currently prohibited, only external global changes could be considered as possible factors influencing any shift in the species' presence and distribution inside the reserve. The decline of the mongoose lemur Eulemur mongoz has resulted in a change of its conservation status from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered. Assessing the current threats to the species and the attitudes of the people coexisting with it is fundamental to understanding whether and how human impacts may affect populations. A questionnaire-based analysis was used to study the impact of agriculture and other subsistence activities, and local educational initiatives, on lemur abundance, group size and composition in the Comoros. On the islands of Mohéli and Anjouan we recorded 214 lemurs in 63 groups, the size and composition of which depended both on environmental parameters and the magnitude and type of anthropogenic pressure. There was no evidence of an impact of anthropogenic disturbance on abundance. In contrast, group size and composition were sensitive to human impacts. The most important threats were conflicts related to crop raiding, as well as illegal capture and hunting. The promotion of educational activities reduced the negative impact of hunting and illegal activities. These results highlight a need for urgent conservation measures to protect the species.
