This research study adds to the existing body of literature by focusing on leisure airlines and identifying their specific enablers, drivers, and best practices contributing to successfully driving digital transformation in their sector. Furthermore, it identifies potential scope for action to continue to promote digital transformation within a leisure airline, using Edelweiss Air AG as an example in comparison with similar airlines.

Aus vordigitaler Zeit wissen wir: Transformationsprozesse sollten als Programme aufgesetzt werden, die aus kleinen fokussierten Projekten bestehen. Dabei gibt das Programm die strategische Richtung vor, welche die Projekte taktisch umsetzen. Die Gestaltung des Transformationsprogramms und die Gestaltung der Umsetzungsprojekte stellen sehr unterschiedliche Herausforderungen dar, die unterschiedliche Herangehensweisen erfordern.

Kann KI Kunst? Diese Frage wird immer wichtiger. Allerdings ist an diesem Satz nur das Fragezeichen klar. Keines der drei verwendeten Worte ist exakt definiert. Korrekter müsste man fragen: Gibt es Formen von KI, die Kunstwerke schaffen können oder Aufführungen von Kunst zustande bringen, welche von Expert*innen als künstlerisch bedeutend angesehen werden? Denn was KI genau ist, traut sich selbst die EU-Kommission nicht zu definieren (normieren). Und für Kunst gibt es keine Definitionen. Das Verständnis, was sie ausmacht, hat sich im Laufe der Zeit immer wieder verändert. Ich selbst habe mit 14 mir die Drei-Eigenschaften-Definition der Antike angeeignet: Integritas, Consonantia und Claritas. Aber wahrscheinlich stehe ich heute mit dieser Definition ziemlich einsam da.

Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) kann Daten analysieren und verstehen – und das immer besser und schneller. Die Entwicklung der KI begann bereits in den 50er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts. Doch erst in den letzten Jahren entfaltet und verbessert die KI ihre Performance wirklich. Grund dafür sind verbesserte Rechenleistungen, Zugang zu grossen Datenmengen, hohe Speicherkapazität sowie weiterentwickelte statistische Analysemethoden.

In the paper we present experiences from the organisation and running of a Business Information Systems course for undergraduate students at the Berner Fachhochschule. Aspects related to the teaching style, the content and the process that have been defined for use are presented and discussed, while the rationale for our decisions is also outlined. An experiential approach is fostered that allows students to capitalise on their individual preferences and learning paths, combined with the idea of supporting the acquisition of digital skills that will allow better use in their current or future working environments.

We present experiences from the establishment of the Digital Lab in our school as a means to help our students build the digital skills and capacities to conceptualize, design, implement and lead digital transformation projects. We conceived the Digital Lab as an internal soft-infrastructures building project at the Business Department of the Berner Fachhochschule. In this respect we envisioned it as a place where interesting things would take place and where people would bring their own ideas and have the opportunity to communicate or share them with others. The application area relates to the acquisition of basic skills by the students to understand the rules and the limits in sharing and trading data, acquire some sufficient level of familiarization regarding how data privacy issues affect the partnership between companies, and how existing or newly appearing business constellations can create value for data-based solutions.

We present a set of hypothetical scenarios and cases where the need for access, sharing and processing of sensitive personal information increases the transparency of the customer to buyer relationship, although it may irreversibly damage the customer’s sphere of privacy. Highly personalised early risk prediction models for use by insurance companies to estimate the probability that a specific event (heart infarct) or a disease (diabetes) occurs in a given individual over a predefined time can enable earlier and better intervention, prevent negative consequences on a person’s quality of life and thus result in improved individual health outcomes. The challenge is to design, develop and validate new generations of comprehensive models that will be the result of a consensual process with the customers and will be based on artificial intelligence and other state-of-the-art technologies using multiple available data resources and will integrate them in personalised insurance policy pathways that empower the customers to actively contribute to their own individual health-risk mitigation and prevention.

In der digitalen Transformation steht und fällt Führung mit dem, was bei Mitarbeitenden und Kunden ankommt. Das sind die Nutzererfahrung und die Geschichten, die den digitalen Wandel erklären. Für beides ist die richtige Digitalisierungslogik entscheidend.
