For centuries, translation has been a means of cross-cultural communication and has played a significant role in facilitating interaction between people who speak different languages and belong to other cultures. This difference in culture often poses problems for translators. Therefore, researchers have been developing strategies such as domestication and foreignisation to overcome cultural obstacles to translation. This study explored the use of these strategies in the audio-visual translation of documentaries from the National Geographic channel translated into Arabic. It also sought to reveal to what extent these strategies were used and which strategy was applied more, using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from various documentaries and analysed manually. Findings concluded that translators in National Geographic Abu Dhabi tended to mingle domestication and foreignisation strategies and shift from one to another on purpose. The choice of the appropriate strategy depended on whether the translator defended his cultural and social identity against all that was foreign and strange through domestication or whether he accepted the other and welcomed his foreignness. This study is limited in terms of samples and thus recommends expanding the number of documentaries selected for analysis in future works. Article visualizations

Racism, in all its forms, has always been a prevailing theme in many works over the decades. This study aimed to compare and analyse aspects of religious discrimination in the Qur'anic story of Ashab Al-Kahf and in Shakespeare's comedy The Merchant of Venice. In addition, this study examines the psychological effects on characters due to this phenomenon and the ways they either coped with or resisted it. The approach employed here was qualitative, and the study was conducted from Bhabha's postcolonial perspective. The findings showed that both Ashab Al-Kahf and Shylock experienced identity crises related to religious discrimination, which they resisted through hybridisation and withdrawal subsequently. Not only would this study be beneficial to researchers in literature, but it would also be so to others in sociology, psychology, and forensic studies. However, this study is limited to one theory of analysis, and the sample was insufficient, especially on the part of the story of Ashab Al-Kahf. This study recommends a reading of the story of Ashab Al-Kahf and Shakespeare's comedy The Merchant of Venice from psychoanalytic perspectives. Article visualizations

Colonialism has been a destructive force that has affected colonized peoples at different levels. The inevitable interaction between the colonizer and the colonized produced a conflict of ideologies and a clash of cultures. Literature has been a reflection of this dark part of human history, among which short stories reveal almost exactly what larger literary genres maintain in terms of ideology and culture. This paper aimed to analyze Grace Ogot's collection of short stories, entitled Land Without Thunder, from postcolonial perspectives. The approach used was descriptive qualitative, according to which most stories were thoroughly analyzed. This analysis showed that Land Without Thunder had presented ideologically conflicted discourse. Moreover, Ogot intended to use much of her native language and dialect to identify her people's indigenous culture. This paper may be limited in theory as the collection of these stories also tackles gender-oriented issues and psychological conflicts, which require different theories other than the postcolonial. In future papers, it is suggested that Land Without Thunder be read from both feminist and psychoanalytic perspectives. Article visualizations

Literature has always been read in a variety of ways, some of which struggle to uncover the latent ideologies behind its aesthetics. Postcolonial theory is, by definition, the best in this regard. This study aimed to approach Ama Ata Aidoo's Anowa and Maishe Maponya's The Hungry Earth, and establish a comparison between them in the light of postcolonial perspectives. The method used in this study is qualitative, and the texts are taken from Gilbert's Postcolonial plays, which include a collection of contemporary plays considered by critics as masterpieces of postcolonial literature. This analysis showed that Anowa and The Hungry Earth are anti-colonial plays par excellence. They both mirror the cruelty and oppression of Western colonialism in Africa and reveal some of its colonial discourse and ideologies. They condemn and document the horrible aspects of discrimination and exploitation. Moreover, they both imply different strategies to resist colonialism, among which mimicry, hybridity, and armed fighting are the most highlighted. This study could be beneficial to students of postcolonial literature to build on it in their future studies. This study recommends the application of other literary theories in the analysis of these two plays, amongst them Feminism and Marxism. In addition to the postcolonial-oriented themes covered in this article, a sense of patriarchy, social inequality, and class distinction is also developed. Article visualizations
