Core-collapse supernovae are among the most magnificent events in the observable universe. They produce many of the chemical elements necessary for life to exist and their remnants -- neutron stars and black holes -- are interesting astrophysical objects in their own right. However, despite millennia of observations and almost a century of astrophysical study, the explosion mechanism of core-collapse supernovae is not yet well understood. Hyper-Kamiokande is a next-generation neutrino detector that will be able to observe the neutrino flux from the next galactic core-collapse supernova in unprecedented detail. We focus on the first 500 ms of the neutrino burst, corresponding to the accretion phase, and use a newly-developed, high-precision supernova event generator to simulate Hyper-Kamiokande's response to five different supernova models. We show that Hyper-Kamiokande will be able to distinguish between these models with high accuracy for a supernova at a distance of up to 100 kpc. Once the next galactic supernova happens, this ability will be a powerful tool for guiding simulations towards a precise reproduction of the explosion mechanism observed in nature., Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures. Astrophysics - Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics - Abstract
Bolometric interferometry is a novel technique that has the ability to perform spectral imaging. A bolometric interferometer observes the sky in a wide frequency band and can reconstruct sky maps in several sub-bands within the physical band in post-processing of the data. This provides a powerful spectral method to discriminate between the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and astrophysical foregrounds. In this paper, the methodology is illustrated with examples based on the Q \& U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QUBIC) which is a ground-based instrument designed to measure the B-mode polarization of the sky at millimeter wavelengths. We consider the specific cases of point source reconstruction and Galactic dust mapping and we characterize the point spread function as a function of frequency. We study the noise properties of spectral imaging, especially the correlations between sub-bands, using end-to-end simulations together with a fast noise simulator. We conclude showing that spectral imaging performance are nearly optimal up to five sub-bands in the case of QUBIC., Comment: 27 pages, 18 figures. Accepted by JCAP on July 6, 2021. Physics - Instrumentation and Detectors ,High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
Hyper-Kamiokande is the next generation underground water Cherenkov detector that builds on the highly successful Super-Kamiokande experiment. The detector which has an 8.4~times larger effective volume than its predecessor will be located along the T2K neutrino beamline and utilize an upgraded J-PARC beam with 2.6~times beam power. Hyper-K's low energy threshold combined with the very large fiducial volume make the detector unique, that is expected to acquire an unprecedented exposure of 3.8~Mton$\cdot$year over a period of 20~years of operation. Hyper-Kamiokande combines an extremely diverse science program including nucleon decays, long-baseline neutrino oscillations, atmospheric neutrinos, and neutrinos from astrophysical origins. The scientific scope of this program is highly complementary to liquid-argon detectors for example in sensitivity to nucleon decay channels or supernova detection modes. Hyper-Kamiokande construction has started in early 2020 and the experiment is expected to start operations in 2027. The Hyper-Kamiokande collaboration is presently being formed amongst groups from 19 countries including the United States, whose community has a long history of making significant contributions to the neutrino physics program in Japan. US physicists have played leading roles in the Kamiokande, Super-Kamiokande, EGADS, K2K, and T2K programs., Comment: 6 pages, prepared as Snowmass2021 LOI

The Belle II detector will provide a major step forward in precision heavy flavor physics, quarkonium and exotic states, searches for dark sectors, and many other areas. The sensitivity to a large number of key observables can be improved by about an order of magnitude compared to the current measurements, and up to two orders in very clean search measurements. This increase in statistical precision arises not only due to the increased luminosity, but also from improved detector efficiency and precision for many channels. Many of the most interesting observables tend to have very small theoretical uncertainties that will therefore not limit the physics reach. This book has presented many new ideas for measurements, both to elucidate the nature of current anomalies seen in flavor, and to search for new phenomena in a plethora of observables that will become accessible with the Belle II dataset. The simulation used for the studiesinthis book was state ofthe artat the time, though weare learning a lot more about the experiment during the commissioning period. The detector is in operation, and working spectacularly well.

We present the physics program of the Belle II experiment, located on the intensity frontier SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Belle II collected its first collisions in 2018, and is expected to operate for the next decade. It is anticipated to collect 50/ab of collision data over its lifetime. This book is the outcome of a joint effort of Belle II collaborators and theorists through the Belle II theory interface platform (B2TiP), an effort that commenced in 2014. The aim of B2TiP was to elucidate the potential impacts of the Belle II program, which includes a wide scope of physics topics: B physics, charm, tau, quarkonium, electroweak precision measurements and dark sector searches. It is composed of nine working groups (WGs), which are coordinated by teams of theorist and experimentalists conveners: Semileptonic and leptonic B decays, Radiative and Electroweak penguins, phi_1 and phi_2 (time-dependent CP violation) measurements, phi_3 measurements, Charmless hadronic B decay, Charm, Quarkonium(like), tau and low-multiplicity processes, new physics and global fit analyses. This book highlights "golden- and silver-channels", i.e. those that would have the highest potential impact in the field. Theorists scrutinised the role of those measurements and estimated the respective theoretical uncertainties, achievable now as well as prospects for the future. Experimentalists investigated the expected improvements with the large dataset expected from Belle II, taking into account improved performance from the upgraded detector., Comment: 689 pages

We highlight the progress, current status, and open challenges of QCD-driven physics, in theory and in experiment. We discuss how the strong interaction is intimately connected to a broad sweep of physical problems, in settings ranging from astrophysics and cosmology to strongly-coupled, complex systems in particle and condensed-matter physics, as well as to searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. We also discuss how success in describing the strong interaction impacts other fields, and, in turn, how such subjects can impact studies of the strong interaction. In the course of the work we offer a perspective on the many research streams which flow into and out of QCD, as well as a vision for future developments., Comment: 246 pp, around 128 figures; v2 adds material, references, and corrections suggested by readers of v1 -- to be submitted to EPJC

This report describes the scientific aims and potentials as well as the preliminary technical design of IRIDE, an innovative tool for multi-disciplinary investigations in a wide field of scientific, technological and industrial applications. IRIDE will be a high intensity 'particle factory', based on a combination of a high duty cycle radio-frequency superconducting electron linac and of high energy lasers. Conceived to provide unique research possibilities for particle physics, for condensed matter physics, chemistry and material science, for structural biology and industrial applications, IRIDE will open completely new research possibilities and advance our knowledge in many branches of science and technology. IRIDE will contribute to open new avenues of discoveries and to address most important riddles: What does matter consist of? What is the structure of proteins that have a fundamental role in life processes? What can we learn from protein structure to improve the treatment of diseases and to design more efficient drugs? But also how does an electronic chip behave under the effect of radiations? How can the heat flow in a large heat exchanger be optimized? The scientific potential of IRIDE is far reaching and justifies the construction of such a large facility in Italy in synergy with the national research institutes and companies and in the framework of the European and international research. It will impact also on R&D work for ILC, FEL, and will be complementarity to other large scale accelerator projects. IRIDE is also intended to be realized in subsequent stages of development depending on the assigned priorities., Comment: 270 pages

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
It has been realized for a long time that knowing the \eta and \eta' wave functions in terms of quark and gluon components probes our understanding of non-perturbative QCD dynamics. Great effort has been given to this challenge -- yet no clear picture has emerged even with the most recent KLOE data. We point out which measurements would be most helpful in arriving at a more definite conclusion. A better knowledge of these wave functions will significantly help to disentangle the weight of different decay subprocesses in semi-leptonic decays of D^+, D_s^+ and B^+ mesons. The resulting insights will be instrumental in treating even non-leptonic B transitions involving $\eta$ and $\eta^{\prime}$ and their CP asymmetries; thus they can sharpen the case for or against New Physics intervening there., Comment: Prepared for HADRON 2011

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
We present the spectrum of the lightest pentaquark states of both parities and compare it with the present experimental evidence for these states. We have assumed that the main role for their mass splittings is played by the chromo-magnetic interaction. We have also kept into account the $SU(3)_F$ breaking for their contribution and for the spin orbit term. The resulting pattern is in good agreement with experiment., Comment: 39 pages, 8 figures

Assuming a Zee-like matrix for the right-handed neutrino Majorana masses in the see-saw mechanism, one gets maximal mixing for vacuum solar oscillations, a very small value for $U_{e3}$ and an approximate degeneracy for the two lower neutrino masses. The scale of right-handed neutrino Majorana masses is in good agreement with the value expected in a SO(10) model with Pati-Salam $SU(4)\ts SU(2)\ts SU(2)$ intermediate symmetry., Comment: 11 pages, no figures. High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
The shape function f(k_+) describes Fermi motion effects in inclusive semi-leptonic decays such as B -> X_u+e+nu near the end-point of the lepton spectrum. We compute the leading one-loop corrections to the shape function f(k_+) in the effective theory with a hard cut-off regularization. The matching constant onto full QCD is infrared safe, i.e. the leading infrared singularity represented by the term log^2(k_+) cancels in the difference of integrals. We compare the hard cut-off result with the result in dimensional regularization, the latter containing an additional factor of two in the coefficient of the log^2(k_+) term, and consequently requiring an oversubtraction., Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure added, minor changes in the text

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
In this work we compute the leading logarithmic corrections to the b -> s gamma decay in a dimensional scheme which does not require any definition of the gamma5 matrix. The scheme does not exhibit unconsistencies and it is therefore a viable alternative to the t'Hooft Veltman scheme, particularly in view of the next-to-leading computation. We confirm the recent results of Ciuchini et al., Comment: 11 pages RevTeX + 2 EPSF figures, report IFUP-TH 2/94, HUTP-93/A038. PostScript file or hardcopy available from the authors upon request

- Abstract
Bolometric interferometry is a novel technique that has the ability to perform spectral imaging. A bolometric interferometer observes the sky in a wide frequency band and can reconstruct sky maps in several sub-bands within the physical band in post-processing of the data. This provides a powerful spectral method to discriminate between the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and astrophysical foregrounds. In this paper, the methodology is illustrated with examples based on the Q & U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QUBIC) which is a ground-based instrument designed to measure the B-mode polarization of the sky at millimeter wavelengths. We consider the specific cases of point source reconstruction and Galactic dust mapping and we characterize the point spread function as a function of frequency. We study the noise properties of spectral imaging, especially the correlations between sub-bands, using end-to-end simulations together with a fast noise simulator. We conclude showing that spectral imaging performance are nearly optimal up to five sub-bands in the case of QUBIC.

We compute the next to leading QCD corrections to weak four fermion interactions introducing a scheme that does not require an explicit definition of $\gamma_5$ in $d$ dimensions. This scheme reduces greatly the difficulties in calculating the two loop anomalous dimensions; we recover the results obtained in the previous literature., Comment: 20 pages, latex file, 3 figures (not included)

- Abstract
Introduction: Standard treatment of newly diagnosed, advanced ovarian carcinoma (OC) consists of cytoreductive surgery followed by platinum-based chemotherapy with or without bevacizumab. Maintenance therapy with PARP inhibitors and olaparib-bevacizumab has recently shown to significantly improve progression-free survival in the first-line setting. Some practical aspects of maintenance therapy, however, are still poorly defined. Aim of the study: To provide guidance to clinicians in the selection of maintenance therapy for newly diagnosed, advanced ovarian carcinoma. Methods: A board of six gynecologic oncologists with expertise in the treatment of OC in Italy convened to address issues related to the new options for maintenance treatment. Based on scientific evidences, the board produced practice-oriented statements. Consensus was reached via a modified Delphi study that involved a panel of 22 experts from across Italy. Results: Twenty-seven evidence- and consensus-based statements are presented, covering the following areas of interest: use of biomarkers (BRCA mutations and presence of homologous recombination deficiency); timing and outcomes of surgery; selection of patients eligible for bevacizumab; definition of response to treatment; toxicity and contraindications; evidence of synergy of bevacizumab plus PARP inhibitor. Two treatment algorithms are also included, for selecting maintenance therapy based on timing and outcomes of surgery, response to platinum-based chemotherapy and biomarker status. A score for the assessment of response to chemotherapy is proposed, but its validation is ongoing. Conclusions: We provide here consensus statements and treatment algorithms to guide clinicians in the selection of appropriate and personalized maintenance therapy in the first-line setting of advanced OC management.

- Abstract
On December 18th 2008 the Council Regulation (EC) No 4/2009 of 18 December 2008 on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement of decisions and cooperation in matters relating to maintenance obligations was adopted. The Maintenance Regulation is an ambitious and comprehensive legal instrument since it covers all the areas of civil judicial cooperation in the context of family maintenance obligations. The Maintenance Regulation aims at simplifying and accelerating the cross-border recovery of maintenance obligations in particular by abolishing the exequatur procedure for all decisions adopted by Member States bound by the applicable law provisions of the 2007 Hague Protocol. This work begins with the adoption of the Maintenance Regulation and continues by studying the few (and sometimes unclear) provisions on the relationship with existing instruments. Particular attention is paid to the interaction of the Maintenance Regulation with the 2007 Hague Convention, the 2007 Hague Protocol - both adopted within the framework of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) - and the 2007 Lugano Convention, as these legal instruments also regulate certain aspects of the cross-border recovery of maintenance. This is followed by a detailed analysis of the provisions on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement, and cooperation. The above analysis aims at identifying the difficulties encountered by national courts, in particular the Italian and German ones, in the practical operation of the provisions of both the Maintenance Regulation and the Protocol. In assessing some areas of improvement with a view to a future recast of the Maintenance Regulation, special attention is paid to the indications provided by the Court of Justice and to the Conclusions and Recommendations adopted by the Special Commission of the HCCH, which guide the States in the practical application of the Convention and the Protocol.

- Abstract
Abstract: Purpose: The detection and classification of hepatic vessels in diagnostic images are essential for hepatic pre-surgery planning. Our team has developed a tool for classification, analysis, and 3D reconstruction of the hepatic and portal systems. Methods: Our software first extracts a graphic representation of a set of connected voxels, representing both systems. It then calculates two binary volumes representing the main part of the two venous systems. Finally, it combines these results to obtain the correct vessel classification. Results: Segmentation steps are semi-automatic and require about 40 min to complete. Schematization and classification steps are automatic and require about 17 min for results. Conclusion: The software provides a correct and detailed reconstruction even where pathologies have caused morphological and geometrical variations in the vessels. The time required for the entire procedure is compatible with clinical requirements, providing an efficient tool for diagnosis and surgical planning.
