Il grado di maturazione dei frutti è tradizionalmente individuato con metodi analitici che prevedono la distruzione del campione, lunghi tempi di analisi, così come l’impiego di reagenti chimici, costosi ed inquinanti. Pertanto, la ricerca sta cercando di superare questi limiti attraverso l’impiego di tecniche non distruttive finalizzate alla riduzione dei tempi di lavoro ed all’ottimizzazione delle risorse durante la fase analitica. L’obiettivo di questo studio è quello di predire il momento ottimale di raccolta di frutti di actinidia a polpa verde (cv Hayward), sia mediante l’utilizzo di strumenti di acquisizione d’immagine nello spettro del visibile, che attraverso l’impiego di tecnologie iperspettrali. A tal fine, frutti di due aziende raccolti in tre epoche distinte, forniti da APOFRUIT Italia soc. coop, sono stati sottoposti ad analisi di immagine nei laboratori del CNR-ISPA e ad analisi iperspettrale dall’azienda FOS S.p.A., presso il NOI Techpark, mediante l’utilizzo di uno spettroradiometro ad alta risoluzione, caratterizzato da un range spettrale compreso tra 350 e 2500 nm. I dati radiometrici raccolti da ogni frutto sono stati convertiti in riflettanza mentre, in parallelo, i frutti sono stati analizzati per la misura dei seguenti parametri chimico-fisici: pH, acidità titolabile, sostanza secca, solidi solubili totali, zuccheri semplici (glucosio, fruttosio, saccarosio), attività antiossidante e contenuto in fenoli totali. Sul dataset dei parametri distruttivi è stata condotta l’analisi della varianza, dalla quale è risultata una correlazione tra il tenore in zuccheri e le diverse epoche di raccolta. Pertanto, questi dati sono stati elaborati utilizzando un approccio regressivo multivariato di tipo PLS (Partial Least Squares Regression), per ricercare una correlazione tra le misure spettrali ed il contenuto in zuccheri. Sono stati ottenuti modelli PLS validati, in grado di predire il contenuto dei singoli zuccheri a partire dagli spettri in riflettanza, evidenziando una prevalente correlazione nella regione spettrale del rosso e nella porzione appena iniziale del vicino infrarosso, con un range compreso tra 650 ed 800 nm. I modelli di predizione sono risultati significativamente attendibili per la predizione del contenuto in fruttosio; potranno essere ulteriormente migliorati attraverso l’implementazione del numero di osservazioni. Nessuna correlazione è stata osservata tra i dati colorimetrici ottenuti dall’acquisizione d’immagine ed i parametri analitici.

The knowledge of the fungal mycobiota of arthropods, including the vectors of human and animal diseases, is still limited. Here, we investigated the mycobiota associated with the sand fly Phlebotomus perniciosus, the main vector of leishmaniasis in the western Mediterranean area, by a culture-dependent approach (microbiological analyses and sequencing of the 26S rRNA gene), internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rRNA amplicon-based next-generation sequencing, fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH), and genome sequencing of the dominant yeast species. The dominant species was Meyerozyma guilliermondii, known for its biotechnological applications. We focused the attention on this yeast and we investigated its prevalence in adults, pupae and larvae of reared sand flies (overall prevalence: 57.5%) and of field-collected individuals (overall prevalence: 9%). Using whole-mount FISH and microscopic examination, we further showed that M. guilliermondii colonizes the midgut of females, males and larvae and the distal part of Malpighian tubules of female sand flies, suggesting a possible role in urate degradation. Finally, the sequencing and analysis of the genome of M. guilliermondii allowed to predict the complete uric acid degradation pathway, suggesting that the yeast could contribute to the removal of the excess of nitrogenous wastes after the blood meal of the insect host.

Two experiments showed that, when processing consonant clusters of their native language, the speakers are sensitive to the presence of a morphemic boundary at some point of the cluster. In the first experiment, words with tri-consonantal final cluster had to be produced by inserting an /i/ in the cluster; the clusters containing a morpheme boundary were more frequently split according to the position of the boundary while the corresponding clusters included in a mono-morphemic word were split according to different options. In the second experiment, the subjects had to detect tri-consonantal clusters while a series of German words was auditorily presented; clusters included in monomorphemic words were easier to detect than homophonous clusters which spanned a morpheme boundary. The impact of morphonotactics on cluster processing was stronger on adolescents than on adults in Experiment 1. The results thus indicated that in offline and online processing of phonotactic structures, morphological information can be available and impact on the recognition and manipulation of clusters.

Sommario: L'ayoreo (famiglia zamuco) è parlato in un territorio che sta a cavallo fra Bolivia e Paraguay. Alla stessa famiglia appartiene il chamacoco. Entrambe le lingue esibiscono una serie di consonanti nasali sorde. Fonemi affini sono segnalati anche in altre lingue geneticamente non relate e talvolta molto distanti geograficamente. Benché tali suoni siano interpretabili, fonologicamente, come nasali sorde, foneticamente potrebbero differire in maniera anche piuttosto marcata. In questo studio vengono analizzate le realizzazioni di quattro locutori ayoreo. Le nasali sorde dell‟ayoreo presentano una forte variabilità articolatoria. Il fono risulta spesso suddiviso in due (in qualche caso addirittura tre) fasi, variamente combinate fra di loro, qui catalogate come: desonorizzazione graduale, totale desonorizzazione, piena nasalità. Le analisi hanno messo in risalto l‟importanza di alcuni fattori portanti. Il luogo di articolazione (bilabiale, dentale, palatale) evidenzia diversi gradi di malleabilità, con le nasali dentali di gran lunga più disponibili al manifestarsi di variabili strategie di produzione. Lo stile di elocuzione (parola isolata vs. in contesto) influisce in maniera marcata, data la diversa velocità di elocuzione e di conseguenza il diverso agio con cui il locutore può focalizzarsi sul bersaglio articolatorio ideale. L‟identità del locutore, in rapporto all‟età ed al dialetto parlato dall‟individuo, potrebbe svolgere a sua volta un ruolo importante, anche se non è possibile al momento definirne con esattezza l‟entità.

Structural systems composed of cast in place sandwich squat concrete walls, which make use of a lightweight material (for example polystyrene) as a support for the concrete, are widely used for construction in non seismic areas or in areas of low seismicity, and appreciated for their limited constructions costs, limited installation times, great constructions flexibility and high energy and acoustic efficiency. If these cast-in-place squat concrete walls are assembled with appropriate connections, a cellular/box behavior of the structural system is obtained which leads to high strength resources (which allows not to use the post-elastic behavior and the ductility resources) and high torsional stiffness. In recent years, from an exhaustive experimental campaign it has been possible to obtain the structural performances of single panels composed of cast-in-place sandwich squat concrete walls. A series of shaking table tests have been carried out at the EUCENTRE in Pavia. The structural specimen which has been tested is a full-scale 3- storey structural system composed of cast-in-place squat sandwich concrete walls characterized by 5.50 × 4.10 meters in plan and 8.25meters in height. Shaking table tests have been developed to validate the theoretically and partially-experimentally anticipated (through cyclic tests under horizontal loads) good seismic behavior of cellular structures composed of cast in place squat sandwich concrete walls.

In this paper the idea of the “shock-absorbing soft story concept”, originally proposed at the end of ‘60s by Fintel and Khan, is reviewed and developed within the framework of Performance Based Seismic Design. The purpose is to conceive a first-storey isolated building capable of satisfying selected seismic performance objectives. Among all the possible solutions, in this study the seismic story isolation is obtained through the insertion (only at the bottom level of the building) of special hysteretic devices, which are specifically designed in order to satisfy the prefixed seismic performance objectives. Without loss of generality, this design approach is fully detailed with reference to the specific case study of a five-storey steel frame building. The performances of the building under multiple earthquake design levels are finally verified through non-linear time-history analyses whose results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
