This paper addresses the influence of the primary and secondary resistances on the behavior of minor hysteresis loops when the electromagnetic device is fed by three-level PWM (pulse width modulation) voltage. To study the device transferring energy to a load, the experimental approaches are different of traditional procedures to material characterization, where problems inherent to the process are added. Analytical, FEM and experimental analysis are performed on a toroidal transformer equipped with a flux sensing coil. The leakage fluxes related to the primary and secondary currents are shown to cause errors in the measurement of the core magnetization current. A solution to mitigate this problem is employed, consisting in twisting and winding together primary and secondary conductors. Experimental methodologies for obtaining the value of the iron losses when the device is transferring energy to a load are also performed. The study shown showed that supply voltage with three-level PWM waveform causes minor hysteresis loops and the greater the resistance value of the excitation winding, the larger the areas of the minor hysteresis loops. On the other hand, by increasing the energy transferring to a load the minor loops areas tend to decrease.

This work presents the study and development of soft magnetic composites of iron coated with alumina nanoparticles dispersed in sodium silicate, also known as liquid glass. It is proposed that the nanoparticles dispersion increases the thermal resistance of the glassy coating, allowing a heat treatment with higher temperatures, reducing the internal stresses generated during the pressing and reducing core losses. Thermogravimetric analysis under an oxidative atmosphere of the powder samples and Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction of fractured compacted samples are shown to discuss the coating thermal behavior. Also, electrical resistivity, relative permeability and magnetic losses of samples with and without nanoparticles dispersed in sodium silicate are shown discussing their loss separation.

In this paper we propose an original system for replacing batteries or feeding cables used to feed monitoring equipments exposed to stray magnetic fields. The main elements of this system are a coil intended to capture the energy from magnetic field and an electronic circuit for voltage controlling. Two voltage control systems are presented: a DC–DC converter yielding a regulated voltage and a voltage tripler circuit carrying a load capacitor. This system furnishes approximately 10 mW depending on the field magnitude and the coil core material. It is shown that the low consumption feeding circuit is effective and the use of core material may increase the furnished power to up to 25 %.

The single phase equivalent circuit is largely used to model the three-phase induction motors in steady-state operation and under sinusoidal balanced voltages. Depending on the desired application, the circuit may or may not represent core losses, a double cage or even the variation of parameters due to skin effect and saturation. However, the determination of the circuit parameters through standard methods, such as those described in IEEE Standard 112, may not be possible in many situations given the lack of the necessary resources. This paper presents initially a survey on the determination of circuit parameters from alternative methods, i.e., non-standard tests. Special focus is given to methods which employ only data usually provided by manufacturers on catalogs and nameplates. Six analytical methodologies used in the context of efficiency estimation at steady-state operation are assessed, compared and then combined in order to improve results. The assessment is based on the closeness of the resulting parameter values to reference values and on the inexistence of absurd results, such as negative electrical resistances. The combination of methods has improved the accuracy of calculations for the studied motors.
