Objective: to analyze the psychometric properties of the Incivility in Nursing Education - Revised Survey - Brazilian version with undergraduate nursing students., Method: methodological study conducted in a nursing school in São Paulo state. It is the analysis of the psychometric properties (reliability and construct validity) of the items in the INE-R survey - Brazilian version. Construct validity was performed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and reliability by test-retest in order to verify the instrument's stability, as calculated by the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and the Internal Consistency of the items according to Cronbach's alpha, ordinal alpha and McDonalds's omega coefficients., Results: Confirmatory Factor Analysis fitted the proposed model with two factors (low and high incivility), with a suggestion to exclude one of student items. Most of the fitting values for the student items and all of the faculty-member items complied with the references established in the literature; the values for Internal Consistency Coefficients were greater than 0.80, and Intraclasss Correlation Coefficients were greater than 0.75., Conclusion: the Brazilian version of the Incivility in Nursing Education - Revised Survey is validated for the studied context, as it has shown satisfactory reliability and validity by means of factor analysis, which has confirmed the original two-factor model, with 23 items addressing student behaviors and 24 items applied to faculty behaviors., Highlights: (1) Incivility is a global and growing phenomenon in higher education.(2) An uncivil environment interferes with learning and health indicators.(3) A validated survey to measure incivility in nursing education is presented.

We report the detection of IgG, IgG1, IgG4 and IgE anti-Strongyloides stercoralis as complementary tool for screening in patients with diabetes in hyperendemic areas for strongyloidiasis. A panel of 119 serum samples were analyzed: 76 from patients with DM2 and 43 patients with other endocrine diseases and a positive correlation for total IgG levels with IgG4 (rs = 0.559; P = 0.024; n = 16) and IgG and IgE (rs = 0.585; P < 0.0001; n = 76) was found in the diabetes group., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare no competing interests., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc. Objective: to create, validate and evaluate an educational video on nurse-patient communication strategies for undergraduate Nursing students., Method: this is a methodological study with a longitudinal design and quantitative analysis. The following stages were conducted: pre-production, production, post-production and evaluation of the video by the target population., Results: five female nurses evaluated the video storyboard and indicated understanding of the subject matter, the topics addressed and the language used as adequate and pertinent to the theme. Another five female nurses considered the following as present and desirable elements: quality of the audiovisual technique employed, simulated environment, characterization of the characters, and development of the nurse-patient communication strategies The final version of the video was evaluated by nine Nursing students that presented a level of item understanding of at least 96%. The video presents the following strategies: General communication strategies, Intercultural Communication, NURSE, Tell me more, Ask-Tell-Ask, Therapeutic Communication and Communicating Bad News., Conclusion: this study portrays the creation of a video, its validation by experts and its evaluation by the target population, which indicated it as a relevant educational resource for the teaching-learning process regarding communication strategies. Both the evaluators and the target population considered that the video is a valid instrument to teach content about the nurse-patient communication strategies.

Objective: to evaluate evidence on risk factors for the development of surgical site infection in bariatric surgery., Method: integrative review. The search for primary studies was performed in four databases. The sample consisted of 11 surveys. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using tools proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Data analysis and synthesis were performed in a descriptive manner., Results: surgical site infection rates ranged from 0.4% to 7.6%, considering the results of primary studies, in which patients underwent laparoscopic surgery. In surveys of participants undergoing surgical procedures with different approaches (open, laparoscopic or robotic), infection rates ranged from 0.9% to 12%. Regarding the risk factors for the development of this type of infection, antibiotic prophylaxis, female sex, high Body Mass Index and perioperative hyperglycemia are highlighted., Conclusion: conducting the integrative review generated a body of evidence that reinforces the importance of implementing effective measures for the prevention and control of surgical site infection, by health professionals, after bariatric surgery, promoting improved care and patient safety in the perioperative period.

Purpose: The aim was to evaluate the effect of a topical formulation containing chitosan-coated Chamomilla recutita (L.) rauschert microparticles regarding the incidence, grade, and days for the appearance of radiodermatitis (RD) in women with breast cancer., Methods: A double-blinded, controlled, randomized, phase II clinical trial developed with women diagnosed with breast cancer who will receive radiation therapy. The participants were randomly divided into 2 groups: control and treatment. They were followed up until the end of the treatment or the appearance of grade III RD., Results: Fifty-four women were included in the study. There is no significant difference between the groups in the incidence (88.9% vs. 88.9%, P=1.0) or time to develop any grade of RD (3 days of difference, P=0.300). A significant reduction was observed in the incidence (P=0.03) and in the time to appearance (7 d of difference, P=0.01) grade 2 or >RD. In the follow-up evaluation (15 d after the end of treatment), the Chamomile group presented a superior skin recovery than the control group (P=0.0343). High-intensity local symptoms as pain, and pruritus were significantly reduced in the Chamomile group., Conclusions: Although no effect was observed with chamomile to reduce any grade of RD, it was effective to reduce grade 2 or >toxicity, to improve skin recovery and to diminish high-intensity local symptoms., Trial Registration: Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (ReBEC): RBR-9hnftg, April 29, 2019., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflicts of interest., (Copyright © 2022 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. Objective: To report the frequency of Lynch syndrome (LS) in a cohort of patients from Southeast Brazil bearing endometrial cancer (EC), using a tumor screening universal approach., Methods: A total of 242 endometrial carcinomas were screened by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and microsatellite instability (MSI) for detection of DNA mismatch repair deficiency (dMMR). MLH1 methylation was assessed to identify sporadic cases. Patients with dMMR tumors were recruited for germline variant analysis by next-generation sequencing of the MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and EPCAM genes., Results: Ninety-three out of 242 tumors (38.5%) were classified as dMMR based on MSI and IHC results. Of these, 54 cases were selected for germline analysis, and 37/54 (68.5%) were available for sequencing. Ten patients (10/37, 27%) harbored germline pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants, most of them in the MSH6 gene (4/10, 40%). Seven variants of uncertain significance were found. Eight novel germline variants were identified. The LS prevalence in our cohort was of at least 4.1%. LS patients presented lower mean age at cancer diagnosis compared with patients diagnosed with sporadic EC. Individuals with dMMR tumors, without germline pathogenic variants detected in LS-genes ("Lynch-like" syndrome), had an intermediate mean age at cancer diagnosis between LS and sporadic cases., Conclusion: This is the first report of the LS prevalence in EC screened by a universal approach in Brazil. Human cysticercosis is a public health problem caused by Taenia solium metacestodes; thus, eradication of T. solium transmission by vaccination is an urgent requirement. The Cc48 mimotope from T. solium cysticerci was tested expressed in phage particles (mCc48) and chemically synthesized (sCc48) as a vaccine candidate in experimental murine cysticercosis. For this, BALB/c mice were immunized with mCc48 (G1; n = 40), sCc48 (G2; n = 40) and phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) (G3; n = 40, positive control) and challenged with Taenia crassiceps metacestodes. Another PBS group without parasite challenge was used as a negative control (G4; n = 40). Mice were sacrificed 15, 30, 45 and 60 days post-infection for cysticerci and serum collection. Immunization efficacy was determined by cysticerci counting. Serum samples were tested by ELISA to verify antibody (IgM, IgG, IgA and IgE) and cytokine (IFNγ and IL-4) levels. The sCc48 achieved the highest rates of protection and efficacy (90 and 98%, respectively). The group immunized with mCc48 presented the highest reactivity for IgM, IgG and IgE. All groups presented IL-4, but IFNγ was quite variable among groups. The protection induced by sCc48 synthetic peptide supports further studies of this mimotope as a potential vaccine candidate against cysticercosis.

Definitive diagnosis of hookworm infection is usually based on the microscopic detection of eggs in a stool sample; however, several cases display a low or irregular egg output. Serodiagnosis can be a useful tool to identify these cases, but conventional tests do not differentiate past from active infections. The aim of this study was to obtain and apply egg yolk polyclonal immunoglobulin (IgY) antibodies to detect immune complexes (ICs) in serum samples from patients infected with hookworm. Hens were immunized with Ancylostoma ceylanicum saline extract, their eggs were collected and then IgY antibodies were extracted and purified. Antibody purity was tested by 12% sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and specificity was assessed by immunoblotting and immunofluorescence. IgY production was evaluated by kinetics enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Sandwich ELISA tested the ability of IgY to detect ICs in serum samples, from which diagnostic parameters were calculated. Antibody responses increased steadily from day 7 to 42. In the immunoblotting assay, IgY recognized two protein complexes. The immunofluorescence assay showed no staining in control samples. The sandwich ELISA presented a very high diagnostic value, with a sensitivity of 90% and a specificity of 86.7%. Our pioneer strategy highlights the potential use of egg yolk IgY as a diagnostic test to detect active hookworm infection.

Herein, we evaluate a mimotope-based synthetic peptidenamed NC 4 1 to diagnose neurocysticercosis (NC), a neglected parasitic disease and a major cause of epilepsy worldwide. NC 4 1 synthetic peptide was evaluated to diagnose NC, and total saline extract from Taenia solium metacestodes (SE) was used as control. Serum samples from patients with NC (n = 40), other parasitic diseases (n = 43), and healthy individuals (n = 40) were tested. Diagnostic parameters such as sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), likelihood ratio (LR), and area under curve (AUC) were calculated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The sequence from T. solium phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) was used for epitope prediction, resulting in one high-scoring patch centered at residue L247. NC 4 1 synthetic peptide reached high diagnostic performance (Se 97.5% and Sp 97.5%, LR+ 39 and AUC 0.997). Data from diagnostic parameters and in silico analyses proved the usefulness of NC 4 1 synthetic peptide as a diagnostic marker for human NC.

Strongyloidiasis is an important helminthiasis affecting million people worldwide. The aim of this study was to use sodium metaperiodate (MP) treatment to immunochemically characterize Strongyloides venezuelensis filariform larvae and use MP-treated heterologous antigen to detect IgG and subclasses in serum. Samples from individuals with definitive diagnosis of strongyloidiasis (n = 50), other parasitic diseases (n = 60) and negative endemic (n = 50) were tested. TG-ROC and two-way ANOVA were applied. MP-treatment resulted on differential localization of carbohydrates at larval structure and no carbohydrate content in saline extract (SE). Electrophoretic profiles were similar before and after treatment. ELISA sensitivity and specificity were: 90%; 88.2% for SE and 92.0%; 94.6% for MP, respectively. When using MP treated antigen we observed reduction in IgG1 and IgG3 detection in strongyloidiasis group and decrease of cross reactions in control groups.
