Objective: To review published evidences about using information technology interventions in diabetes care and determine their effects on managing diabetes. Design: Systematic review of information technology based interventions. Research design and methods: MEDLINE®/PubMed were electronically searched for articles published between 2004/07/01 and 2014/07/01. A comprehensive, electronic search strategy was used to identify eligible articles. Inclusion criteria were defined based on type of study and effect of information technology based intervention in relation to glucose control and other clinical outcomes in diabetic patients. Studies must have used a controlled design to evaluate an information technology based intervention. A total of 3613 articles were identified based on the searches conducted in MEDLINE from PubMed. After excluding duplicates (n = 6), we screened titles and abstracts of 3607 articles based on inclusion criteria. The remaining articles matched with inclusion criteria (n = 277) were reviewed in full text, and 210 articles were excluded based on exclusion criteria. Finally, 67 articles complied with our eligibility criteria and were included in this study. Results: In this study, the effect of various information technology based interventions on clinical outcomes in diabetic patients extracted and measured from selected articles is described and compared to each other. Conclusion: Information technology based interventions combined with the usual care are associated with improved glycemic control with different efficacy on various clinical outcomes in diabetic patients. The lack of adequate numbers of hospital beds to accommodate the injured is a main problem in public hospitals. For control of occupancy of bed, we design a dynamic system that announces status of bed when it change with admission or discharge of a patient. Synthetic jet actuators have shown good promise in delivering flow control for several applications. However, in order to achieve the full potential benefits of synthetic jets, the development of synthetic jet actuators with higher momentum delivering capability is essential. Unsteady three dimensional incompressible laminar numerical simulations was performed in order to explore the benefits of four circular orifice synthetic jets over a single one for higher circulation production. Flow features of synthetic jets and the circulation of the vortex rings from with single, two and four orifices are examined and compared in this paper. The present study demonstrates that it is possible to increase circulation by more than 3 times with as a result of having four orifices with smaller diameters but higher dimensionless stroke lengths using four orifice actuators. Background: The majority of patients presenting with periampullary neoplasms are operative candidates and are treated surgically. Aim of the study: To assess the complications, morbidity, mortality and 2-year survival rates, and safety of pancreaticoduodenectomy for periampullary carcinomas in a non-oncology surgical set-up. Patients and methods: Records of 23 patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy for periampullary cancers between July 1995 and April 2001 in Guilan, Iran, were reviewed. Results: Among 23 consecutive patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy, 16 were men and 7 were women, and the mean age was 58 +/-10.2years. All the patients had a malignant neoplasm. Mean operative time was 7.3 hours. The surgical procedure was pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) in 65%. The median intraoperative blood loss was 625 ml and no transfusion was required. There was no intraoperative mortality, and the overall 30-day postoperative mortality rate was 4.5%. Delayed gastric emptying was the most common postoperative complication. The 2-year survival rates for periampullary cancers were 93% in PPPD and 62.5% in classic Whipple procedure. Conclusion: Pancreaticoduodenectomy for periampullary tumors remains a formidable procedure in our set-up. It can be performed safely with low mortality and morbidity rates

Background: Burns are among the most common traumas in developing countries, which consume large amounts of medical resources. It is important to find an appropriate material for dressing of burn wounds that improves healing and is readily available, easily applicable, and economical. Methods: In a single-blind randomized controlled clinical trial from March to October 2006, 211 patients with less than 20% burn were enrolled into two groups. The first group contained 104 patients with average burn of 11.90±3.80% of total body surface area (TBSA) for whom amnion dressing was used. The second group composed of 107 patients with average burn of 12.30±4.14% of TBSA treated with routine silver sulfadiazine dressing. Results: Amniotic membrane usage was accompanied by acceleration in wound healing, less need for skin graft, and less pain. The mean healing time in superficial parts of burn wounds in the amnion group was significantly shorter than the control group (9.50±2.13 v 14.30±2.60 days; P value < 0.01). The extent of the wound with granulation tissue which needed skin graft was less in the amnion group (2.10 ±2.21% v 4.2 0±1.44%; P value < 0.01). Conclusion: Widespread use of amniotic membrane dressing is recommended for limited burn wound management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: women post-menopause, are faced with various physical, emotional, and relational challenges. One such aspect that tends to be overlooked is the impact of menopause on sexual well-being. This study aimed to elucidate the concept of enriching the sexual life of women post-menopause., Methods: A qualitative research strategy was adopted using a conventional content analysis approach. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 24 participants (17 women post-menopause and 7 experts), using purposive sampling., Results: The data analysis resulted in the extraction of 341 codes, 24 subcategories, and 8 categories. Ultimately, the following three themes emerged: "maintaining and enhancing the position of sexual relationships," "deepening sexual relationships and expanding intimacy," and "improving communication skills with the spouse "., Conclusion: Enriching the sexual life of women post-menopause, as suggested by the themes, involves nurturing their relationships, keeping these connections strong and valued, deepening intimacy, and promoting effective communication to ensure a fulfilling and enjoyable experience during this phase of life. This paper explores the security, privacy, and ethical implications of e-health data in Iran's healthcare network. A framework is proposed to ensure security and privacy in electronic health information processing across various institutions. The framework addresses aspects such as software/hardware, communication networks, patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, online health service regulations, commercial and judicial exploitation, and education/research. The study categorizes these requirements into seven main categories to safeguard health-oriented service recipients' security and privacy.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of intranasal air-puffing on cognitive impairments and brain cortical activity following one night of partial sleep deprivation (PSD) in adults. A total of 26 healthy adults underwent the numerical Stroop test (NST) and electroencephalography (EEG) before and after one night of PSD. Following PSD, subjects in the treatment group ( n = 13) received nasal air-puffs (5 Hz, 3 min) before beginning the NST and EEG recording. Administration of nasal air-puffs in the treatment group restored the PSD-induced increase in error rate and decrease in reaction time and missing rate in the NST. Intranasal air-puffs recovered the PSD-induced augmentation of delta and theta power and the reduction of beta and gamma power in the EEG, particularly in the frontal lobes. Intranasal air-puffing also almost reversed the PSD-induced decrease in EEG signal complexity. Furthermore, it had a restorative effect on PSD-induced alteration in intra-default mode network functional connectivity in the beta and gamma frequency bands. Rhythmic nasal air-puffing can mitigate acute PSD-induced impairments in cognitive functions. It exerts part of its ameliorating effect by restoring neuronal activity in cortical brain areas involved in cognitive processing.

Several edible plants contain flavonoids, including myricetin (Myr), which perform a wide range of biological activities. Myr has antitumor properties against various tumor cells. In this study Myr-loaded PEGylated niosomes (Myr-PN) were prepared and their anti-cancer activities were evaluated in vitro. Myr-PNs were prepared as a tool for drug delivery to the tumor site. Myr-PN was characterized in terms of size, zeta potential, and functional groups using dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The Myr-PN size was 241 nm with a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.20, and zeta potential -32.7±6.6 mV. Apoptotic properties of Myr-PN against normal and cancer cell lines were determined by flow cytometry and real-time quantitative PCR. Cancer cells showed higher cytotoxicity when treated with Myr-PN compared with normal cells, indicating that the synthesized nanoparticles pose no adverse effects. Apoptosis was induced in cells treated with 250 μg/mL of Myr-PN, in which 45.2 % of cells were arrested in subG1, suggesting that Myr-PN can induce apoptosis. In vitro, the synthesized Myr-PN demonstrated potent anticancer properties. Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted diseases worldwide. The present review was conducted to accumulate evidence on the relationship between cervicovaginal human papillomavirus infection and serum vitamin D status., Methods: Electronic databases including Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, and PubMed were searched by different combinations of keywords related to "human papillomavirus" and "vitamin D", obtained from Mesh and Emtree with AND, and OR operators without any time restriction until December 24, 2022. Selection of articles was based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used for quality assessment. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist was applied for reporting., Results: In total, 276 citations were retrieved. After removing duplicates, and non-related articles, the full texts of 7 articles were reviewed including 11168 participants. Three studies reported that there was a positive relationship between vitamin D deficiency and cervicovaginal human papillomavirus while three studies did not. One study showed a significant positive association between higher vitamin D stores and short-term high-risk human papillomavirus persistence., Conclusions: The findings showed no firm evidence for any association between serum vitamin D level and cervicovaginal human papillomavirus infection, although the possible association could not be discarded. Background and Objective: School-based sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education is often reported as being inadequate and/or inconsistent. This study aimed to investigate the educational interventions for promoting SRH in school counselors and compare the results in three groups: lecturing, buzz group and role-play., Materials and Methods: An intervention quasi-experimental design was employed to evaluate the usefulness of educating SRH topics by using interactive teaching methods for 120 school counselors. Changes in the participants' knowledge, attitudes and self-efficacy toward SRH education were evaluated by each group using a pretest and a posttest., Results: The results of this study revealed that 75% of counselors deemed SRH training vital and felt that the best SRH educators are health care providers and the reason might be their lack of educational skills. They also stated that the most significant barriers to education in schools include concerns about parental feedback and lack of appropriate abilities., Conclusion: The present study showed that the use of all three methods (lecturing, buzz groups and role-play) in SRH training improves the level of knowledge, attitude and self-efficacy; although role-play could have been more effective than lecturing in improving counselors' knowledge., Competing Interests: Declaration of conflicting interestsThe authors have no conflicts of interest to declare.

Background: A bibliometric review of the biomedical literature could be essential in synthesizing evidence if thoroughly conducted and documented. Although very similar to review papers in nature, it slightly differs in synthesizing the data when it comes to providing a pile of evidence from different studies into a single document. This paper provides a preliminary guideline for reporting bibliometric reviews of the biomedical literature (BIBLIO)., Methods: The BIBLIO was developed through two major processes: literature review and the consensus process. The BIBLIO started with a comprehensive review of publications on the conduct and reporting of bibliometric studies. The databases searched included PubMed, Scopus, Web of Sciences, and Cochrane Library. The process followed the general recommendations of the EQUATOR Network on how to develop a reporting guideline, of which one fundamental part is a consensus process. A panel of experts was invited to identify additional items and was asked to choose preferred options or suggest another item that should be included in the checklist. Finally, the checklist was completed based on the comments and responses of the panel members in four rounds., Results: The BIBLIO includes 20 items as follows: title (2 items), abstract (1 item), introduction/background (2 items), methods (7 items), results (4 items), discussion (4 items). These should be described as a minimum requirements in reporting a bibliometric review., Conclusions: The BIBLIO for the first time provides a preliminary guideline of its own kind. Janus structures have unique properties due to their distinct functionalities on opposing faces, but have yet to be realized with flowing liquids. We demonstrate such Janus liquids with a customizable distribution of nanoparticles (NPs) throughout their structures by joining two aqueous streams of NP dispersions in an apolar liquid. Using this anisotropic integration platform, different magnetic, conductive, or non-responsive NPs can be spatially confined to opposite sides of the original interface using magnetic graphene oxide (mGO)/GO, Ti 3 C 2 T x /GO, or GO suspensions. The resultant Janus liquids can be used as templates for versatile, responsive, and mechanically robust aerogels suitable for piezoresistive sensing, human motion monitoring, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding with a tuned absorption mechanism. The EMI shields outperform their current counterparts in terms of wave absorption, i.e., SE T  ≈ 51 dB, SE R  ≈ 0.4 dB, and A = 0.91, due to their high porosity ranging from micro- to macro-scales along with non-interfering magnetic and conductive networks imparted by the Janus architecture., (© 2023. Background: Patients with infrainguinal venous bypass grafts are at risk of graft stenosis leading to thrombosis and failure of the graft conduit. When primary assisted reintervention is needed, a common first choice of treatment is percutaneous angioplasty using fluoroscopy and digital subtraction angiography (DSA). We investigated whether percutaneous ultrasound-guided intervention (PUSGI) is feasible for such endovascular reinterventions., Methods: In this retrospective observational study (feasibility study), we included patients with ultrasound evidence of significant stenosis in below-the-knee vein grafts in the lower extremities. Inclusion period was 18 months. Reinterventions were disrupted by performing PUSGI in between traditional DSA. Perioperative success was defined as no sign of residual stenosis, stenosis at the access point in the vein, or need for further fluoroscopy guided intervention. Patient follow-up was conducted 6 weeks after the intervention. Patency of the procedure was defined as no disease recurrence or signs of ultrasonographic restenosis at follow-up., Results: PUSGI was performed in 17 patients referred for reintervention with imminent failing grafts (12 men, 5 women, age range 52-82 years). PUSGI alone was performed successfully in 10 out of 17 patients (59%). The remaining 7 patients underwent successful revascularization with PUSGI in combination with DSA-guided angioplasty. Periprocedural complications occurred in 4 patients. Two of 17 patients had occluded grafts at 6 weeks of follow-up. No PUSGI access site stenoses in grafts were observed., Conclusions: Percutaneous ultrasound-guided reintervention in peripheral vein bypass disease is feasible for selected patients. Exposure to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) news pandemic is inevitable. This study aimed to explore the association between exposure to COVID-19 news on social media and feeling of anxiety, fear, and potential opportunities for behavioral change among Iranians. A telephone-based survey was carried out in 2020. Adults aged 18 years and above were randomly selected. A self-designed questionnaire was administered to collect information on demographic variables and questions to address exposure to news and psychological and behavioral responses regarding COVID-19. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the relationship between anxiety, fear, behavioral responses, and independent variables, including exposure to news. In all, 1563 adults participated in the study. The mean age of respondents was 39.17 ± 13.5 years. Almost 55% of participants reported moderate to high-level anxiety, while fear of being affected by COVID-19 was reported 54.1%. Overall 88% reported that they had changed their behaviors to some extent. Exposure to the COVID-19 news on social media was the most influencing variable on anxiety (OR 2.21, 95% CI 1.62-3.04; P < 0.0001), fear (OR 1.95, 95% CI 1.49-2.56; P < 0.0001), and change in health behaviors (OR 2.02, 95% CI 1.28-3.19; P = 0.003) in the regression model. The fear of being infected by the COVID19 was associated with the female gender and some socioeconomic characteristics. Although exposure to the COVID-19 news on social media seemed to be associated with excess anxiety and fear, it also, to some extent, had positively changed people's health behaviors towards preventive measures., (© 2023. Background: There are reports of sexual dysfunction in postmenopausal women, and several treatment recommendations are available., Aim: To investigate the effect of folic acid on postmenopausal women's sexual function., Methods: This triple-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted in Tehran, Iran, in 2020. A sample of 100 postmenopausal women was recruited from comprehensive health centers affiliated with the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. Eligible women were randomly assigned to receive folic acid (5 mg) or placebo on an empty stomach every day for 8 weeks. Women were assessed at 3 time points: baseline and 4 and 8 weeks after the intervention., Outcome: Sexual function was the main outcome, as measured by the Female Sexual Function Index., Results: The mean ± SD age of participants in the folic acid and placebo groups was 53.2 ± 3.84 and 54.4 ± 4.05 years, respectively (P = .609). The results obtained from mixed effects analysis of variance revealed a statistically significant difference between baseline and posttreatment scores and the interaction between time and group for desire, orgasm, satisfaction, arousal, pain, and total sexual function score, with the folic acid group improving more than control group. Lubrication was the only domain that showed no significant difference for the interaction between time and group., Clinical Implications: Folic acid may beneficially affect sexual function in postmenopausal women., Strengths and Limitations: Strengths include the novelty of the subject, the triple-blind design, the block randomization, the administration of a standard scale for sexual function (Female Sexual Function Index), and the affordability and availability of folic acid. This study was conducted with a small sample size and short follow-up time; therefore, interpretation of the results requires great caution., Conclusion: The findings suggest that folic acid possibly improves sexual function in postmenopausal women. Background: Multiple sclerosis profoundly affects the sexual aspects of patients' life, especially in women. Various coping strategies are used by women with multiple sclerosis to overcome, tolerate, or minimize these sexual effects. The present study aimed to assess the relationship between sexual satisfaction, sexual intimacy, and coping strategies in women with multiple sclerosis., Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on a sample of 122 married women who were members of Iran's MS society in Tehran, Iran. The study was conducted from December 2018 to September 2019. Data were collected using the Index of Sexual Satisfaction (ISS), the Sexual Intimacy Questionnaire (SIQ), and the Folkman and Lazarus Coping Strategies Questionnaire. Frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used to explore the observations. Independent t-test and logistic regression were applied to analyze the data using the SPSS-23., Results: The majority (n = 71, 58.2%) used an emotion-focused coping strategy with the highest score for the escape-avoidance subscale [mean (SD): 13.29 (5.40)]. However, 41.8% of the patients (n = 51) used a problem-focused coping strategy with the highest score for the positive reappraisal strategy subscale [mean (SD): 10.50 (4.96)]. The sexual satisfaction in women with problem-focused coping strategies was significantly higher than women who used emotion-focused coping strategies (95.6 vs. 84.71, P-value = 0.001). There was a negative association between sexual intimacy and higher emotion-focused coping strategy (OR = 0.919, 95% CI 0.872-0.968, P = 0.001)., Conclusions: Problem-focused coping strategy in women with multiple sclerosis increases sexual satisfaction, while the emotion-focused coping strategy has a significant negative relationship with sexual intimacy., (© 2023. Background: Postpartum weight retention (PPWR) causes obesity, chronic diseases, and occurring adverse maternal-fetal and neonatal outcomes. Given the social factors' effect on health and disease and considering the lack of information on social determinants of health (SDH) effects on PPWR, this study was conducted to survey the relationship between SDH and PPWR based on the World Health Organization (WHO) model., Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on 400 women six months after delivery in 2020. Twelve health centers were randomly selected from the three universities of Medical Sciences in the city of Tehran, Iran. Participants were selected by convenience method and based on eligibility. Questionnaires used included: Lifestyle Profile Health Promoting II, Short Form Postpartum Quality of Life Questionnaire, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Postpartum Social Support, Depression Anxiety Stress Scales, and questionnaires designed by reviewing the literature about breastfeeding, sleep, contraceptive, child health, unhealthy behaviors, postpartum nutritional awareness/beliefs, body satisfaction, access to postpartum care, socioeconomic status, demographic, and obstetric questionnaire. Data analysis was performed in SPSS-23, and the relationship model was examined using the path analysis method in LISREL-8.8., Results: Path analysis indicated the direct effect of six intermediate factors on PPWR including: gestational weight gain (β = 0.42), access to postpartum care (β = 0.11), postpartum nutritional awareness/beliefs (β=-0.17), anxiety (β = 0.09), sleep duration (β=-0.09), pre-pregnancy body mass index (β = 0.09). Among the structural factors, woman's education and socioeconomic status had an indirect negative effect on PPWR. The model fit indices showed good fit (RMSE = 0/05, GFI = 0.92, CFI = 0.92, χ 2 /df = 2.17)., Conclusion: The results indicate the effect of structural and intermediate determinants of health on PPWR. Objectives: Substance-dependency is a significant health problem that might affect couples' relationships and lead to several complications such as burnout. This study aimed to assess and compare couple burnout in women with and without substance-dependent partners., Methods: In this cross-sectional study samples of women with and without substance-dependent partners were studied. Couple burnout was assessed using the Couple Burnout Measure (CBM). The data then were compared between the study groups by performing descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and chi-square. Logistic regression analysis was carried out to examine the association between couple burnout and independent variables., Results: In all 264 women with (n = 121) and without (n = 143) substance-dependent partners were studied. Couple burnout was assessed using the Couple Burnout Measure (CBM). There were significant differences between both groups in most characteristics. The mean score of couple burnout in women with and without substance-dependent partners were 3.8 ± 1.2 and 2.6 ± 0.85 respectively (p < 0.001). In logistic regression analysis, the probability of couple burnout in women with substance-dependent partners was 4.5 times more than those without substance-dependent partners (OR = 4.50, CI = 2.48-8.17, p < 0.001)., Conclusion: The findings showed that women with substance-dependent partners might suffer from higher couple burnout. Indeed, implementing appropriate interventions such as educational and counseling programs in health centers and substance abuse treatment centers is recommended. Background: Sexual health is one of the most important aspects of health. In Iran, most services associated with reproductive and sexual health are provided by midwives at health centers. As different factors are effective in providing care services associated with sexual health, the present study aims to investigate the factors affecting the provision of sexual health services by midwives., Materials and Methods: In this qualitative content analysis study, data were collected by conducting in-depth interviews with 16 midwives, 7 key informants, and 6 stakeholders. Background: Sexual dysfunction is potential abnormality in the ability of a person to sexual respond or enjoy sexual experience. During pregnancy, sexual function is at risk and disorder due to physical, hormonal and psychological changes. The prevalence of female sexual dysfunction is very variable during pregnancy., Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in pregnant women in the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office Countries (EMRO) by meta-analysis and systematic methods., Materials and Methods: This study was reported based on the PRISMA checklist for systematic review and meta-analysis. This study investigated all articles with full English text in the EMRO region, from the international databases from 2000 to January 2019, which examined the prevalence of the sexual dysfunction in pregnant women. Statistical analysis was performed by using STATA12.1software., Results: The results reveal that the prevalence of the sexual dysfunction in pregnant women is65% (95% CI: 54-75%). The mean of total sexual dysfunction in women was 22.71 (95% CI: 18.52-28.51%) and for the first, second and third trimester of pregnancy were obtained as 23.77 (95% CI: 28.56-28.96%), 23.80 (95% CI: 23.78-23.82%) and 22.60 (95% CI: 22.58-22.62%), respectively., Conclusion: The prevalence rate of sexual dysfunction is high in pregnant women in the EMRO region. The high rate of sexual dysfunction can be due to the difference in sexual performance scoring using the female sexual function questionnaire and on the other hand, pregnant women may be due to incorrect beliefs about sexual activity and cultural, religious and social restrictions and taboos, they have been avoiding to express their sexual function correctly.
