The GBAR experiment will use one of the low energy antiproton beam lines from the ELENA ring that is being prepared and scheduled to start operating in 2017. The apparatus is broadly divided into four sections: antiproton deceleration and focussing, positron production and accumulation, antihydrogen cooling and preparation, and detection. In the following, we give updates on the different parts and the status of preparation for installation in the AD hall, referring to the previous report that was submitted in April of 2014

Particle-size distribution (PSD) is a fundamental soil physical property. The PSD is commonly reported in terms of the mass percentages of sand, silt and clay present.

Finite element analysis of the 4-T, 12.5-m long, 6-m-bore diameter superconducting solenoid for the CMS experiment at LHC shows that the insulation system is subjected mainly to shear forces during magnet operation at 4.5 K. This paper describes the development of a test procedure to evaluate shear properties of the glass reinforced composite material at 4.2 K. The calculation supporting the new specimen shape and the relation between coil and specimen Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are presented. As an application, this-test procedure is used to compare three different surface treatments of the conductor: solvent cleaning, sand blasting and anodic oxidation. Results from these tests are reported. Values up to 110 MPa at 4.2 K have been obtained for the CMS foreseen insulation material, the conductor being treated by anodic oxidation. (5 refs).

A status report is given on the preparations and tests in view of the AD-7 / GBAR experiment at the future ELENA facility to be constructed at the CERN Antiproton Decelerator.

Meteor spectroscopy provides valuable data about the composition of meteoroids striking the atmosphere [1, 2, 3]. The results obtained from the analysis of meteor spectra can also be used to infer information about the chemical nature of the parent bodies of these particles of interplanetary matter. With this aim, we have employed since 2006 high-sensitivity CCD video cameras with attached holographic diffraction gratings (500-1000 lines/mm) to record the emission spectra produced during the ablation of meteoroids in the atmosphere [4, 5]. These devices allow for a precise recording of the evolution of the intensity of emission lines with time and, for multi-station events, with height also [6]. During August 2012 we made an additional effort in the framework of this continuous spectroscopic campaign by setting up two new automated spectrographs, although these are based on slow-scan high-resolution CCD devices. These new systems are described here and the first results obtained so far are presented.

This report is the deliverable report 7.4.1 “A HTS dipole insert coil constructed“. The report has three parts: “Design report for the HTS dipole insert”, “One insert pancake prototype coil constructed with the setup for a high field test”, and “All insert components ordered”. The three report parts show that, although the insert construction will be only completed by end 2013, all elements are present for a successful completion and that, given the important investments done by the participants, there is a full commitment of all of them to finish the project

INTRODUCTION: Vertical osteogenic alveolar distraction (VOAD) allows for the augmentation of the alveolar ridge for the placement of dental implants in atrophic alveolar ridges. The goal of this paper is to assess long-term peri-implant bone resorption in implants placed on bones subjected to VOAD, comparing it with a group of patients who had implants placed directly on the alveolar bone without previous bone regeneration. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a follow-up study on 32 patients who were divided into two groups: The Distraction Group (14 patients), and the Distraction-Free Group (18 patients), who received a total of 100 implants. Peri-implant bone loss was measured by means of panoramic X-rays, at the time of loading and one year later, and in 35 implants of each group after 3 years of functional loading. RESULTS: The peri-implant bone resorption (PBR) average observed in the Distraction Group at the time of prosthetic placement is higher (0.50 +/- 0.09 mm) than in the Distraction-Free Group (0.25 +/- 0.06 mm), showing statistically significant results (p=0.047). PBR levels 1 year after loading were the same for both groups (0.66 mm). At 3 years, they were higher in the Distraction Group (1.03 +/- 0.22 mm vs. 0.68 +/- 0.08 mm).

We propose an experiment to measure the free fall acceleration of neutral antihydrogen atoms in order to test the Weak Equivalence Principle. The originality of this path is to first produce the antihydrogen ion Hbar+ (or anti H-). The ion is formed through two charge exchange processes involving the interaction of an antiproton with positronium to produce antihydrogen, followed by the interaction of this atom with positronium. The ion is then sympathetically cooled with laser cooled Be+ ions down to μK temperatures (i.e. m/s velocities). The excess positron can then be laser detached in order to recover the neutral antihydrogen atom. The laser pulse will give the start time for the antihydrogen free fall measurement. The stop will be determined by the detection of the charged pions coming from the annihilation of the antiprotons on a plate placed at a known distance from the initial position of the atoms. From the free fall time and distance one will can extract the value of g. Our goal is a measurement at the level of 1%.
