INTRODUCTION: PHACE syndrome comprises posterior fossa malformations, haemangioma, arterial anomalies, cardiac defects, eye anomalies and less commonly, sternal cleft or supraumbilical raphe. It is a neurocutaneous condition in which extensive or segmental Infantile haemangioma, usually on the face, scalp, or cervical region, can be associated with posterior fossa malformations, arterial abnormalities. PHACE syndrome can rarely cause oral manifestations also. AIM: To assess the knowledge and awareness on PHACE syndrome among the dental students. MATERIALS AND METHOD: This is an online study setting with a sample size of 100 dental practitioners. The sampling method used is non-probability convenience sampling with minimal sampling bias. The questionnaire comprised 20 questions and the method of representing each output variable was pie chart and bar graph. The results were analyzed using SPSS statistical software. Chi square test and pearson correlation was done to check the association, and a p-value of less than 0.05 was said to be statistically significant. RESULTS: From the present study, third year students comparatively have more awareness and knowledge about PHACE syndrome, 36% were aware that PHACE syndrome can cause dental root abnormalities(p= 0.059, p>0.05), 34% were aware that PHACE syndrome can cause enamel hypoplasia(p=0.098, p>0.05), 24% were aware about the teeth that are most likely to get affected by PHACE syndrome(p=0.018, p<0.05), 36% were aware that PHACE syndrome can cause localized upper lip infantile hemangioma(p=0.026, p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Within the limits of the study it can be concluded that third year students had a high level of awareness and knowledge about the syndrome when compared to the other study year students. Aim: The aim was to study the morphometry of stylomastoid foramen and its location with respect to nearby anatomical landmarks. Introduction: The stylomastoid foramen is a rounded opening on the inferior surface of the temporal bone, between the base of styloid and the mastoid process of the temporal bone, which transmits the facial nerve. Hence, this study is to determine the precise location of stylomastoid foramen. Materials and Methods: A total of 40 dry human skulls were studied to locate the position of the center of stylomastoid foramen with respect to tip and anterior border of the mastoid process, jugular foramen, and styloid process. Results and Discussion: The position of stylomastoid foramen with respect to XY axis for the left side and right side is 50% along and 65% anterior for skulls, respectively. However, the previous study shows anteriorly for 83.15% of skulls. Moreover, the distance for the left side was higher than that of the right side, respectively, for all parameters. Moreover, the results were not significant at P < 0.05. Conclusion: This study makes possible the identification of the exact position of stylomastoid foramen and its applications. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the heart rate (HR) and respiratory rate (RR) differences between the age group of 45-55 years and correlate it with the age. Introduction: HR is the number of contractions (beats) of the heart/min (bpm). It is usually equal or close to the pulse measured at any peripheral point. The normal resting adult human HR is 60-100 bpm. Tachycardia is a fast HR, defined as above 100 bpm at rest. Bradycardia is a slow HR, defined as below 60 bpm at rest. When the heart is not beating in a regular pattern, this is referred to as arrhythmia. The RR is the number of breaths/min. The typical RR for a healthy adult at rest is 12-18 breaths/min. Abnormal RRs - apnea, dyspnea, hyperpnea, tachypnea, hypopnea, bradypnea, orthopnea, platypnea, Biot's respiration, Cheyne-Stokes respiration, and Kussmaul breathing. Materials and Methods: A sample size of 100 healthy individuals was considered for this study between the age group of 45 and 55 years were selected randomly. Their HR and RR were measured at rest manually and were statistically analyzed. Results and Discussion: According to the regression analysis, 52% of the RR has a correlation to age, whereas only 32% of the HR has a correlation to the age. Conclusion: From the graph, it is evident that as the age increases, HR and RR decreases. Moreover, RR is more relevant according to the regression analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In order to achieve uneventful and rapid healing of the tissues, a suture material should be biocompatible, easy to handle, sterile, and have good and uniform tensile strength. Hence, in the present study, characterization of the suture materials was done through a novel green chemistry approach using Punica granatum seed extract., Materials and Methods: Ethanolic extract of P. granatum seed was prepared by dissolving 25 g of P. granatum seed powder with 100 mL of ethanol. The obtained extract was coated in silk and Vicryl suture material and was tested for its surface morphology (SEM), tensile strength, anti-microbial activity, biocompatibility, and wound healing potential., Results: Silk and Vicryl sutures coated with P. granatum seed extract showed the uniform coating and deposition of extract with sustaining integrity. Vicryl suture coated with the extract had good tensile strength and antimicrobial activity. The in vitro scratch assay and biocompatibility test showed that the P. granatum seed extract had excellent wound healing potential and can be used without any effect on the viability of the normal cells., Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study it can be concluded that P. granatum seed extract coated Vicryl sutures had good tensile strength and anti-microbial activity.
