Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, can result in persistent loss of taste and smell. This study was performed to assess acoustic reflex threshold (ART) in patients with taste disorders caused by SARS-CoV-2. Material and Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 11 patients (9 men, 2 women; average age = 22.3 years) with a history of COVID-19 and had complaints of taste disorder and sensitivity to loud sounds. The control group consisted of 13 healthy participants (10 men, 3 women; average age = 23.4 years). Anamnesis, neuro-otological, ear, nose and throat, and eye examinations, as well as a taste test, pure tone audiometry, speech discrimination test, and impedance audiometry were performed in all participants. Results: All participants in the study group had a negative taste test result. In addition, ART values were significantly higher in the study group than the control group at all frequencies. Objective: The Covid-19 pandemic continues to threaten the whole world. Early diagnosis of patients is very important to prevent the spread of the virus. Sudden loss of taste and smell is a common early symptom in patients. Therefore, it is thought that revealing the pathogenesis of the symptom will help both in early diagnosis and in predicting the prognosis. Materials and Methods: The age, gender, predominant symptoms during Covid, length of stay at home/hospital, and smoking status of patients who had Covid and had loss of taste and smell between July 2020 and December 2020 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Patients with loss of taste and smell were significantly younger than those who did not. The majority were female patients, non-smokers, and patients needing significantly less hospitalization and receiving treatment at home. Among the accompanying symptoms, GIS symptoms were also significantly more common in this group. Conclusion: Loss of taste and smell is an important symptom in Covid-19 infection. Revealing the demographic and clinical characteristics associated with this symptom is valuable in terms of early diagnosis of the disease, predicting the prognosis and reducing the contagiousness. Background: Transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) has become the preferred and standardized method for the early treatment of many laryngeal carcinomas, due to the good treatment results, together with the scarcity of local complications. Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the advantages of TLM(diode laser) in the treatment of patients with early-stage (T1-2) glottic laryngeal cancer (GLC). Methods: In the present study, 228 patients, who were diagnosed with early-stage GLC between 2007 and 2013 and treated with diode TLMin our clinic, were analyzed retrospectively. Results: During the 5-year follow-up period of the patients, it was found that 5.2% of the patients had therapeutic neck dissection and 2.6% had a tracheostomy. The mean hospitalization period was 24 hours and their speech and swallowing functions were satisfactory. Eight percent of the patients developed local relapse. In addition, the 5-year disease survival 100%, disease-free survival was 92%, and laryngeal preservation was 98.7%. Conclusions: The TLM method is a minimally invasive treatment for early-stage GLCs and gives treatment results similar to radio- therapy and open surgery methods. However, it is more advantageous than other methods in terms of reducing hospitalization period, low complication rate, preserving speech-swallowing functions, and its re-application in cases of relapse. TLM is a safe and reliable surgical technique with less morbidity that can be repeated in selected tumor recurrence. Anterior commissure monitoring must be important in the treatment of TLM. Especially in anterior commissure, tumors with a tendency to spread in the vertical plane should be monitored for local recurrence. Diode (gallium-arsenide) 980-nm laser has advantages over the standard CO2 laser, and TLM treatment stands out in early-stage GLCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adult-onset Still’s disease (ASOD) is rare in adults. We herein report a 21-year-old female patient with swelling on right cheek, fever, sore throat, and myalgia for two months. The radiologic, pathologic, laboratory and serologic investigations led to no specific diagnosis. Our case fulfilled 3 major (fever, arthralgia, and leukocytosis) and 4 minor (pharyngitis, lymphadenopathy in the neck and parotid gland, abnormal liver function test and negative for Rheumatoid arthritis) criteria for the diagnosis of ASOD according to Yamaguchi et al. This was a rare case presenting with intraparotid lymph nodes and diagnosed with ASOD. After corticosteroid treatment, all symptoms, liver function tests and inflammatory parameters regressed to normal ranges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
