In this paper, the definition, connotation, and internal relationship of mountains rivers, forests, farmlands lakes, and grasslands in China are elaborated, and the current situation of ecological restoration projects for mountains rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and gruslands was introduced. Moreover r the problems that have arisen in the specific implementation process of pilot projects were analyzed, such as unclear target positioning inaccurate analysis of ecological problems, insufficient engineering design systematicness, weak operability of evaluation standards and weak coordination in engineering management. The development direction and major needs for the protection and restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands lakes; and gruslands in the future have been proposed from four aspects; theoretical research, engineering design, effect evaluation, and monitoring and supervision. In 1975, with the debate on the re-use of historic city centers still very much alive, Palazzo Lascaris di Ventimiglia, famous aristocratic palace of Baroque Turin, was acquired by the Piedmont Region to house the Regional Council, in response to instances of the reuse of monumental buildings «for some socially useful purpose». The adaptation of the building to its new function, entrusted to the studio led by architects Franco Albini and Franca Helg, represents a significant experience of intervention on a building marked by numerous modifications. Since the 1990s, however, the project has progressively lost its identity in favour of a series of disorganic interventions, in the context of the gradual fading of the debate that had characterised the world of architectural restoration in the decades immediately following the Venice Charter and in which the project itself had its premises. The oriental-style Sultanate Gate of Çırağan Palace in Istanbul is one of the most majestic monumental marble entrance gates from the Ottoman period. Designed by Nikagos Balyan, Çırağan Palace was built between 1863 and 1871 during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz. For more than 70 years, Ciragan Palace and its marble gates remained neglected until they were restored in 1986. A comprehensive conservation-restoration concept based on in-depth historical research, material analyses, damage and condition assessments, structural analyses, and mapping was developed for the Sultanate Gate in 2022 and was subsequently implemented in 2023 under the supervision of national and international experts. This paper provides an overview of the conservation and restoration process of the Sultanate Gate in practice, from planning and sampling to execution. Various human activities can damage the structure of rural rivers ecosystems and reduce their self-purification capacity. In Northeast China, the cold climate also poses serious challenges to river restoration. What types of restoration technology should be adopted and what impacts the restoration project will bring, in terms of river ecological function improvements, should be further discussed. To investigate the effects of ecological restoration projects and different restoration measures on water quality and benthic macroinvertebrates of rural rivers in cold regions in Northeast China, benthic macroinvertebrates and 10 indicators of water quality including ammonium (NH4+-N), nitrate (NO3–-N), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), chemical oxygen demand (COD), dissolved oxygen (DO), water temperature (Tem), pH (pH), electrical conductivity (EC) and chlorophyll-a (Chla) were monitored. We analyzed the temporal and spatial changes of benthic macroinvertebrates and 6 typical water quality indicators including NH4+-N, NO3–-N, TN, TP, COD and DO, which were collected in 4 seasons at 7 typical river sections. The Water Quality Index (WQI) was used to evaluate the seasonal and spatial variation of water quality during monitoring period, and a new WQImin model consisting of six crucial parameters, i.e., pH, DO, NH4+-N, TN, TP and COD, was established by principal component analysis. The results showed that the ecological restoration project enhanced the self-purification capacity of the river, and increased diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates. The maximum removal rates of the main pollution indicators NH4+-N, NO3–-N, TN, TP and COD were 96.49 %, 43.92 %, 49.69 %, 8.3 % and 25.95 %, respectively. The maximum increase rates of DO and benthic macroinvertebrates diversity were 77.96 % and 310.9 %, respectively. The operation effect of the restoration project had an obvious seasonal effect, with the best effect during the spring and summer. The project still has good repair effect in winter. In terms of water purification, the effect of the overflow weir combined with aquatic organisms was better than that of the single overflow weir in the river channel. There was the best effect of the engineering measures in summer. The ecological restoration project can improve the river water quality and the benthic macroinvertebrates conditions. Compared to before the restoration, WQImin values increased 168.81 % and 44.21 % in winter and summer, respectively, and Shannon index increased 6.57 % and 41.67 % in summer and autumn, respectively.

The hydrodynamic conditions of rivers affect fish habitats by influencing parameters such as river bottom topography. Ecological restoration projects change the water morphological characteristics of rivers. Here, water flow characteristics of the upper Yangtze River before and after the construction of a restoration project were analyzed using the computational fluid dynamics simulation method. The longitudinal diversion dam could divide the river into two flow velocity zones, and the outer flow is similar to the original river with a flow velocity of 0.75 m/s. However, flow velocity on the inner side of the river was about 0.25 m/s, forming a larger buffer area. The eddy became more diversified and stable, with a high eddy viscosity coefficient and less fluctuations, at 9 Pa·s; this was conducive to fish aggregation and spawning. At different depths, large gradient differences were observed between the inner and outer sides of the longitudinal diversion dam, and the turbulent current and upward flow of the inner side were obvious; this was more favorable to the aggregation of different fish species. The longitudinal dam body was under a pressure of about 200.2 Pa at the same flow rate; this was significantly lower than the pressure on the transverse dam body. The field flow test and fish survey data showed that the error rate of the simulation using the RNG turbulent model was less than 10% compared with actual mapping. After the restoration of fish habitats by the longitudinal diversion dam, the number of fish species in the area increased from 40 to 49; The density of fish in the water increased from 71.40 fish per 1,000 m² before the project to 315.70 fish per 1,000 m² after the project. While the policy momentum behind ecosystem restoration has never been stronger, restoration finance remains insufficient. A crucial information gap to unlock finance is the lack of robust and consistent data on the costs and benefits of restoration. This is due in part to the wide variety of contexts, interventions, and objectives of restoration projects, and to the absence of well‐defined standards and protocols for cost and benefit data collection. To fill this gap, we developed a standard framework to assess the costs and benefits of restoration projects and specific restoration interventions. The associated template for data collection, which was tested for usability during a piloting phase, is the first output of The Economics of Ecosystem Restoration (TEER), a multi‐partner initiative under the aegis of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. It is the first attempt ever to improve the robustness and comparability of data on the economics of ecosystem restoration collected from the field at a global scale. Widespread adoption of this framework and associated template by a wide range of organizations implementing or financing restoration would allow for standardized data to be fed into a jointly owned database of restoration costs and benefits and serve as a basis for the further investigation of the economics of ecosystem restoration, including cost‐benefits analysis. Better information on costs and benefits will help to inform accurate budgeting access to finance for restoration projects, and make them more likely to achieve their set goals and desired quantitative outcomes (e.g. area restored). This study aims to determine the sediment changes and the trends in TOC, BC and TN before and after restoration of the mangrove wetland in the Jinjiang Estuary and to determine the effect of the wetland restoration process on the biogeochemical cycle of carbon and nitrogen. The results suggest that the sediments were mainly silt-sized. The tidal asymmetry-induced siltation below tidal barriers is a worldwide problem that restricts regional socio-economic and environmental development. The hydrodynamic processes of the small mud estuary also feature a high uncertainty after estuary restoration measures. In this study, a hydrodynamic model based on the MIKE21 is used to quantify the responses of tidal asymmetry to a two-phase restoration project in Shuanglong Estuary, Bohai Bay, China. According to the numerical modeling results, the tidal flat removal in the upper estuary (first-phase restoration) induces the flood asymmetry switching to the ebb asymmetry in unrestored reach but enhances flood asymmetry in widening restored reach. Although the tidal asymmetry reverts to flood-dominated pattern after full restoration over the estuary, the imbalance between flood and ebb velocities is relieved. A possible net sediment transport pattern based on a comparison of dominant asymmetric current and actual sediment transport period shows net sediments in the upper estuary and inlet transport seaward and landward, respectively, in the first-phase restoration, whereas landward net sediment transport occurs in the whole estuary under the second-phase restoration scenario. Given these results, we assume that a switch from the flood-dominated estuary to ebb-dominated estuary can be caused by redesigning the cross-sectional profile. The quantitative comparison of Lagrangian residual currents also implies that a channel–shoal structure rather than a flat bathymetry can promote the mass transport. Therefore, reshaping the channel–tidal flat system in restoration projects can prevent the sedimentation of the estuary and improve the water environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Detailed and accurate measurements can be done by using laser scanning technology compared to conventional methods in documentation of cultural heritage. Accuracy of measured data directly affects the protection of historical buildings and decision-making process. By processing laser scanning data, multipurpose 3d models can be obtained and all work and results can be shared via internet. Moreover, a detailed analysis of the building can be made with this data and it can be transferred to all related engineering and archeological fields. Despite the advantages of this technology, it has not been used widely yet in production of architectural projects. High cost of equipment and data processing software have been seen as main obstacles for widespread using of this technology. As well as, lack of integration of this topic into architectural education and less number of researcher studying in this field restrict the use of laser scanner. In this paper, evaluations were made in order to define the possibilities by using laser scanner technologies in process of restoration projects of which number is getting increased in last decades in Turkey. Positive and negative aspects of technology observed in survey process were given with a case study, a small traditional house in province of Aksaray and some reviews related to potential use of laser scanner technologies were made in Turkey.
