This study aims to determine the effect of adding duck egg yolk to skim milk-fructose extender on the motility and viability of Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata) spermatozoa at 5°C storage. Muscovy duck ejaculate was divided into four equal portions. The first portion was for the control group, which was extended in skim milk-fructose, while the second, third, and fourth portions were for treatment groups T1, T2, and T3, which were extended in skim milk-fructose with the addition of 2.5, 5.0, and 7.5% (v/v) duck egg yolk. Sperm motility and viability were evaluated every two hours until the motility percentage reached 40%. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan’s test. The results showed that spermatozoa motility and viability were higher (p <0.05) in groups T1, T2, and T3 compared to those of group T0 after 10 hours storage at 5°C. The highest percentage of spermatozoa motility and viability was in the T2 group compared to other groups (p <0.05). It could be concluded that the Muscovy duck semen extended in skim milk-fructose containing 2.5 to 7.5% (v/v) duck egg yolk met the requirements for artificial insemination when stored for up to 10 hours at 5°C. Reproductive disorders are the main cause of economic losses in beef herds. This study aimed to determine the type of reproductive disorder in beef cows in Kedamean district, Gresik regency, related to feeding, age, and parity. The method used for this study was a survey. Primary data was obtained from field surveys by interviewing farmers, animal health officials, inseminators, and direct inspection of cows and pens. Secondary data was obtained from the Gresik Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Service. The data obtained was then compiled and performed descriptively. The results showed that the number of productive cows in this study area was 935, of which 340 (36.36%) had reproductive disorders. The highest type of reproductive disorder was ovarian hypofunction (OHF) (14.55%, 136/935) and the smallest was cystic ovaries (0.11%, 1/935). Cows aged two and three years (heifers and first parity) have a percentage of reproductive disorders of more than 60% compared to cows of other ages, most of them (13.82% and 12.65%) were OHF. The cows fed straw have a greater percentage of reproductive disorders than cows fed field grass. Cases of OHF engaged the first position followed by cases of silent estrus and persistent corpus luteum. It could be concluded that reproductive disorders in the form of OHF, persistent corpus luteum, and silent estrus in several villages in Kedamean district, Gresik regency, East Java, Indonesia in 2023 mostly occured at the age of two to three years on heifers or first parity, fed straw. The purpose of this study was to determine the motility and viability of kampung rooster (Gallus gallus domesticus) spermatozoa in 0.9% Sodium chloride (NaCl) solution as an extender with the addition of egg yolk at different concentrations at cool temperature (5°C). This study was performed using two 1.5 years old healthy local roosters. Semen was collected through massage in the morning. The pooled semen sample was divided into four treatment groups. In the T0 group the semen was diluted in 0.9% NaCl, while in the T1, T2 and T3 groups the semen was diluted in 0.9% NaCl added with 5, 10 and 15% egg yolk. The results showed that the motility and viability of spermatozoa decreased when stored at cool temperatures for ten hours (p <0.05). Semen of roosters stored at 5°C in saline solution without the addition of egg yolks showed the lowest motility and viability of spermatozoa (p <0.05). The addition of egg yolk into the saline extender increased the motility and viability of spermatozoa. Concentration of 15% egg yolk in saline solution resulted in the highest spermatozoa motility and viability when stored for up to 8 hours (p <0.05). However, motility and viability of spermatozoa at 10 hours of storage were not significantly different (p >0.05) with the addition of 10% and 15% egg yolks. Therefore, it could be concluded that the addition of 15% egg yolk into a saline solution as an extender could maintain the motility and viability of kampung rooster spermatozoa when stored at 5°C for 10 hours. Preservation of ram semen has an impact on the exposure of artificial conditions to the spermatozoa which was followed by overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and resulted in functional damages of spermatozoa. This study aimed to determine the effect of the combination of chicken, quail, and duck egg yolks with green tea extract (GTE) on the quality of Sapudi ram spermatozoa at 5°C storage. Ejaculates of Sapudi ram with more than 70% spermatozoa motility were divided into four groups. Semen were extended 1: 10 in citrated-chicken egg yolk extender (control group, T0), and citrated yolk of chicken (T1), quail (T2), and duck (T3) egg added with 0.05 mg GTE per 100 mL of extender. Extended semen was kept in a tube, which was put in a beaker containing distilled water and stored in a refrigerator (5°C). Spermatozoa motility, viability, and plasma membrane integrity (PMI) were evaluated daily for five days. The results showed that GTE in duck egg yolk citrate extender could maintain the highest spermatozoa motility, viability, and PMI for five days (p <0.05). It could be concluded that the duck egg yolk citrate extender with the addition of GTE (Camellia sinensis) was beneficial for maintaining the semen of Sapudi ram spermatozoa at chilled temperatures. Aim: This study aimed to develop equations to predict daily milk production (DMP) based on linear body and udder morphometry of Holstein Friesian (HF) dairy cows., Materials and Methods: The experiment was conducted on 174 lactating HF dairy cows reared by farmers at different locations under similar conditions. The age, parity, and body condition score of experimental animals were limited to 0.25 of the standard deviation value above or below the average. The average DMP was based on farmers' records. Morphometry components, i.e., body length (BL); chest circumference (CC); front udder height (FUH), rear udder height (RUH); and udder circumference (UC) were directly measured using a tape; meanwhile, body weight (BW) was estimated using the Indonesia Winter formula. The relationship variables of morphometry components (body and udder morphometry) and BW on DMP were analyzed by regression., Results: The result showed no correlation (p>0.05) between CC and BW on DMP. Meanwhile, DMP obtained linear regression (p<0.05) with the mathematical equation: 1.30+0.11*BL; 13.90+0.41*FUH; 11.02+0.18*RUH; and 3.87+0.16*UC., Conclusion: This study shows that the DMP of dairy cows could be predicted based on their BL and udder morphometry., (Copyright: © Soeharsono, et al.)
