Emerging evidence suggests that zooplankton production is affected by physiological and nutritional constraints due to climate change and eutrophication, which in turn could have broad implications for food-web dynamics and fisheries production. In this study, we developed a resource-based zooplankton production dynamics model that causally links freshwater cladoceran and copepod daily production-to-biomass (P/B) ratios with water temperature, phytoplankton biomass and community composition, and zooplankton feeding selectivity. This model was used to evaluate constraints on zooplankton growth under four hypothetical scenarios: involving natural plankton community seasonal succession; lake fertilization to enhance fisheries production; eutrophication; and climatic warming. Our novel modeling approach predicts zooplankton production is strongly dependent on seasonal variation in resource availability and quality, which results in more complex zooplankton dynamics than predicted by simpler temperature-dependent models. For mesotrophic and hypereutrophic lakes, our study suggests that the ultimate control over zooplankton P/B ratios shifts from physiological control during colder periods to strong resource control during warmer periods. Our resource-based model provides important insights into the nature of biophysical control of zooplankton under a changing climate that has crucial implications for food web energy transfer and fisheries production.

Does the growth of non-polluting exports lead to better environmental performance? The answer depends on how these exports rest on local comparative advantages. The more exports rely on polluting inputs, the worse their environmental performance would be. In practice, it is difficult to directly measure the polluting inputs for exporting products at the local level. This study proposes an approach to measure the reliance of exports on local polluting inputs, based on the product relatedness theories and the resource-based view of firms. This approach applies the locational quotient to indicate local resource advantages. Then, it uses the co-occurrence probability to measure the product relatedness of one export to local resource advantages. Finally, it distinguishes the product relatedness to polluting resource advantages from non-polluting ones. A higher level of polluting product relatedness is expected to depress the environmental performance of exports. Using 30 sectors in 281 Chinese cities as a case, this study applies the fixed effect model and the threshold regression model to examine the effects of product relatedness on environmental performance. Empirical results support the efficiency of using product relatedness to predict the environmental performance of exports. A higher level of polluting product relatedness leads to poorer environmental performance and more adverse effects of export growth on the environment.

Purpose of work — analysis of modern scientific literature on the resource approach to the definition of personnel policy in medical organizations, analysis of personnel management system, personnel policy in a particular medical organization, justification of definition: "Personnel policy is personnel management, which is carried out taking into account the levels of organizational and economic, socio-psychological (huemonizing), legal, technical (5S, lean production, medical organization of a new type), training and pedagogical (mentoring) in combination and interrelation with the determining role of socioeconomic factors of the surrounding society". Materials and methods. The subject of the study — personnel policy in a medical institution on the example of the State Autonomous Institution «Serov City Hospital», using certain resources for the formation of its levels. The following methods were used in the study: analysis, classification, synthesis of scientific theoretical literature on the problem of research; analysis of documents related to the activities of a medical institution, comparison, socio-psychological testing of a number of mental and psychophysiological functions of medical workers in the professional environment. Results and discussion. The definition of "personnel policy" in a medical organization is clarified, taking into account the systematic and resource-based approach. Recommendations on the implementation of personnel policy in Serov City Hospital during the period of organizational changes and preventive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 were developed. Conclusion. The use of a systematic approach in the formation of personnel policy, taking into account the organizational and economic, sociopsychological, legal, technical, training and educational levels proposed by us in the aggregate and interrelation, with the determining role of socio-economic factors, allows to solve the most important issues of sustainable functioning of the medical institution in the period of organizational changes and preventive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Indonesian business environment heavily influenced by small-medium enterprise (SME). In embracing Industry 4.0, Indonesian SME must be able to adapt the changing environment and competitive landscape. However, the concept of competitive advantages of SMEs, especially when concerning digital transformation, yet to be clearly defined and evaluated within the industry. Several factors, directly or indirectly, affect and jointly determine the competitive strength of an individual firm. The challenge is to properly identify the specific factors, and how and to what extent they affect firm SME competitiveness. Thus, emerge the necessity to study, understand, and then identify those factors. This research seeks to answer the challenge by using a qualitative approach and the resource-based framework. Six variables discovered through studying state-of-the-art literature, namely Digital Capability, Digital Orientation, Digital Innovation, Resistance, and Government Support that connected with SME Competitiveness. The link between variables were clarified. Resulting in proposal of how those variables entwined with each other. All variables were found to be directly related to Competitiveness, with some of the relations were moderated by Digital Innovation.

The special issue assembles papers that addressed the following themes: how COVID-19 has affected agricultural and resource-based industries, the effects of major disruptions due to other disasters beyond COVID-19 on the sector and the collective lessons for policymakers and practitioners. Based on the input-output panel data of industrial sectors of Shanxi Province, which is the only province-wide resource-based region in China, this paper uses the non-parametric DEA model and the Malmquist productivity index to construct the DEA-Malmquist model for evaluation analysis of the green total factor productivity (GTFP) and its decomposition value of the sub-sector, and then through fixed effect panel regression model studies the ways of energy transition of the SDG’s. The results show that the technological progress index has the greatest contribution to the growth of GTFP, while the scale efficiency index has the lowest contribution. And the amount of investment in environmental pollution control has a significant positive relationship with the GTFP of the three major polluting industries in Shanxi. Among them, investment in environmental pollution control has the greatest positive effect on the GTFP of light polluting industries characterized by high technology, high added value and low emissions; investment in environmental pollution control has the largest positive effect on the GTFP of heavy polluting industries with heavy chemical industry and pollution-intensive industries; investment in environmental pollution control has the weakest positive effect on the GTFP of the medium polluting industries that manufacture life service products and some heavy industrial products. Based on these results, the paper puts forward effective policy for the energy transition of resource-based regions.

Distance education in higher education is a trend that has gained increasing strength nowadays. However, its institutionalization is a complex task. It requires unequivocal knowledge about resource management from its executors. This study aims to describe the main aspects of the applicability of the Resource-Based View in the effort to institutionalize distance education for the Administration course. The method used was the conceptual bibliographic, by analyzing the logic contained in each selected answer to the research questions that make up the present study. The results show that the Resource-Based Vision consists of a managerial line of thought that considers that resources are strategic for the organization. For this reason, they should be evaluated under three approaches: value, sustainability, and versatility. The more resources present these three characteristics, the greater the organization's level of competitiveness in its competitive environment.

The Livestock sector plays a central role in nature resource based livelihood of the vast majority of population and often considered as the poor people’s ATM. However this sector is facing a number of problems like bad health, shortage of feed and fodder, increase incidence of emerging and reemerging diseases etc and the most drastic amongst them being the Natural disasters like earthquake, floods, volcanoes etc. This paper gives a brief idea about the ill effects of natural disasters on the health of livestock, thereby effecting their production and productivity along with the various strategies to be kept in mind while dealing with disaster like event.

The trade service quality is considered to be the fundamental basis for creating the consumer value in the market offer. The transformation of resources into a value proposition requires to define the priority areas of their investment in accordance with the key determinants of the trade service quality, which determined the purpose of this study. It has been proved that the state of the material and technical base of Russian trading enterprises does not correspond to the tasks of ensuring a competitive level of the trade service quality.

Resource-based cities generally have "high energy consumption, high carbon emissions, and high pollution". Exploring low-carbon planning of resource-based cities means great significance for promoting the low-carbon transformation and development of resource-based cities and achieving "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality". Based on the two levels of city region and central city, the paper proposes a low-carbon planning method for resource-based cities from four aspects: industrial transformation, land use, road transportation and ecological environment. At the city region level, it is necessary to reasonably determine urban industrial structure and industrial development scale, and meanwhile, optimize the industrial layout by reasonably planning production, living and ecological space and formulating practical space control measures; coordinating the connection between external traffic and traffic system within the city; constructing a carbon sink network composed of green patches-ecological corridors-peripheral matrix. At the central city level, it is necessary to analyze gradient attributes of carbon emissions from different land types, rationally arrange various types of construction land; optimize the layout of urban residence and employment space; increase systematicness of road planning in central urban areas; give full play to the carbon sink role of ecological corridors. Finally, an empirical study is carried out with the case of Xingtai City. The research can provide theoretical basis and path reference for reducing carbon emissions of resource-based cities through spatial planning.

In order to understand dynamic capability theory, which is one of the very important business concepts in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, this study builds a relatively complete dynamic capability system from two situations based on the collation and induction of existing literature. The first situation is to clarify four different types of abilities formed by the four classes corresponding to the three elements of capability. The second situation is to clarify type of strong dynamic capabilities that are needed in the era of the fourth industrial revolution and the three micro-capabilities that it plays in practice, which are the continuous, creative and transformational capabilities of the enterprise. This study wishes to emphasize two points. First, these three capabilities must be used in conjunction to be most effective. Second, the strong dynamic capabilities of the enterprise in the era of the fourth industrial revolution are based on its strong operational capabilities （core capability） and weak dynamic capabilities （smart capability）, and they are indispensable. If the emphasis is only on developing the capability of a company to respond to changes in the environment, without core capability or core business as a fulcrum, from a long-term perspective, there are huge risks for enterprises.

This study develops a typology of dynamic capabilities to advance knowledge on how tourism organizations can manage disruptive external changes. It uses the context of a natural disaster. The article goes beyond a simple classification of organizational activities in responding to crises/disasters to create a typology of 12 dynamic capabilities. The typology is based on three dimensions that align with the disaster life cycle, source of resources, and deployment of resources. This study also provides empirical explanations for each type of dynamic capability, using qualitative data collected from 40 in-depth interviews with tourism organizations and other stakeholders across two years. Several practical implications and future research directions are provided based on the findings and limitations of the study.

Retirement planning is a widely promoted activity to enhance wellbeing for aging populations. However, there is limited follow-up data to understand the antecedents of multi-dimensional retirement planning activities, the resources such activities produce or the explanatory mechanisms. This research draws on recent theorizing, which suggests that retirement planning may play a mediating role in explaining how pre-retirement antecedents are transformed into retirement resources. Antecedents, planning and retirement resources were examined using 3 waves of follow-up data collected in 2006, 2008, and 2014. Four hundred thirty-five people originally employed in 2008 and retired by 2014 participated in the study. Health, income, and a positive retirement attitude (T1) were the strongest predictors of retirement planning (T2), but job satisfaction and occupation also played smaller predictive roles. Financial planning (T2) predicted health, psychosocial, and financial resources in retirement (T3). However, health, lifestyle, and psychosocial planning played a minimal role in explaining retirement resources, and only financial planning demonstrated noteworthy evidence of mediation. Findings can help to inform policy decisions by identifying those at greatest risk of not planning, and to isolate the factors most likely to explain the longer-term effects of planning. Understanding which resources are predicted by different domains of planning will also help inform the targeting of interventions.

Research on the effects of within-person personality variability has mainly focused on the consequences for subjective well-being. Drawing on a resource-based approach, we extend this field to the work domain, expecting that since deviating from one’s average trait level is resource intensive, it should relate negatively to behaviors that require the investment of additional resources, such as organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), while it should relate positively to behaviors that replenish one’s resources, such as counterproductive work behavior. Using two personality dimensions that are predictive for work-performance (conscientiousness and core self-evaluations), and a new variability index that is not confounded by the mean, we find an effect of personality variability on negative performance outcomes (counterproductive work behavior), while no relation is found with positive forms of extra-role performance (organizational citizenship behavior). These results were replicated across three separate experience sampling studies, confirming that, while within-person personality variability is related to performance, those relationships are relatively weak and they do not hold for every performance facet.

The large organizations are more interested in adopting new technology because these organizations have more financial resources, human capital, technological competencies, employees, and organizational support. On the other hand, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have more challenges with respect to suppliers, organizational contextual factors, technological competencies, and financial resources which negatively influence the adoption rate of e-procurement system. The present study aims to identify these challenges with the purpose to understand the adoption capabilities that can help SMEs to adopt e-procurement systems in the perspective of a developing country. To achieve this aim, the researcher data had gathered from the internal and external stakeholders of five SMEs of textile sector. Findings highlighted that SMEs are facing many challenges such as complexity and formalization, formal and informal linking structures, financial and strategic integration, industry characteristics, and technology infrastructure. The adoption of e-procurement systems can improve the employee abilities, motivation, opportunities, interconnectedness and system openness, inventory system, purchasing process, and organizational capabilities.

Understanding why some firms outperform others is central to strategy research. The resource-based view (RBV) suggests that competitive advantages arise due to possessing strategic resources (i.e., assets that are valuable, rare, nonsubstitutable, and inimitable), and researchers have extended this logic to explain performance differences. However, RBV is relatively silent about the actions managers could use to create or capitalize on a resource-based advantage. Enriching RBV, the resource orchestration framework describes specific managerial actions that use such resources to realize performance gains. After reviewing the conceptual evolution of these two literature streams as well as related streams, we use meta-analytic structural equation modeling to aggregate evidence from 255 samples involving 111,120 observations to answer outstanding research questions regarding the strategic resources–actions–performance pathway. The results show strong complementarity and interdependence between their logics. Additional inquiry drawing on their complementarity is a clear path toward enhancing scholars’ understanding of how and why some firms outperform others. We build on our findings to lay a foundation for such inquiry, including a call for theorizing centered on the interdependence of resources and actions, as well as new theoretical terrain that can help resource-based inquiry continue to evolve.

Animals often need to signal to attract mates and behavioural signalling may impose substantial energetic and fitness costs to signallers. Consequently, individuals often strategically adjust signalling effort to maximize the fitness payoffs of signalling. An important determinant of these payoffs is individual state, which can influence the resources available to signallers, their likelihood of mating and their motivation to mate. However, empirical studies often find contradictory patterns of state-based signalling behaviour. For example, individuals in poor condition may signal less than those in good condition to conserve resources (ability-based signalling) or signal more to maximize short-term reproductive success (needs-based signalling). To clarify this relationship, I systematically searched for published studies examining animal sexual signalling behaviour in relation to six aspects of individual state: age, mated status, attractiveness, body size, condition and parasite load. Across 228 studies and 147 species, individuals (who were predominantly male) invested more into behavioural signalling when in good condition. Overall, this suggests that animal sexual signalling behaviour is generally honest and ability-based. However, the magnitude of state-dependent plasticity was small and there was a large amount of between-study heterogeneity that remains unexplained. When signalling to attract mates, animals in poor condition could signal less to conserve resources (ability-based signalling) or more to maximize short-term reproductive success (needs-based signalling). Meta-analysis of 147 animal species shows that signalling is predominantly an honest indication of ability, although there is a trend for needs-based signalling when comparing old with young unmated individuals.

Based on the model of proactive motivation and the conservation of resources (COR) theory, the current study examines how workplace ostracism as a negative relational context influences feedback-seeking behavior (FSB) and whether personal (i.e., loss-focused coping orientation) and condition resources (i.e., supervisor and spousal support) can buffer the detrimental impacts of workplace ostracism on employees. Using a sample of 506 employees from China, we employed the PROCESS macro to examine our hypotheses. The results showed that workplace ostracism had a negative indirect impact on FSB by reducing vitality. Employees’ personal and condition resources also weakened the direct detrimental impact of workplace ostracism on vitality as well as its indirect impact on FSB (i.e., moderated mediation effects). This study extends the relational antecedents of FSB by examining workplace ostracism. More importantly, we provide a resource perspective to interpret how and when workplace ostracism influences FSB, moving beyond the dominant cost-value framework in the FSB literature.

This study takes China's oil and gas resource-based cities as the research object and builds a green growth efficiency evaluation index system from the four dimensions of social economy, resources and environment, science and technology, and government policy. Based on the non-radial and non-angle SBM model combining with the Malmquist–Luenberger (ML) index model for undesired output, it measures the green growth efficiency of oil and gas resource-based cities in China from 2010 to 2017 from both static and dynamic perspectives. It also analyzes the changing trend and room for growth of the green growth level of oil and gas resource-based cities. The results show that: (1) Using the combined SBM and ML methods can scientifically evaluate the green growth efficiency of China's oil and gas resource-based cities; (2) The green growth level of China's oil and gas resource-based cities generally rose first in 2010–2017 and then showed the declining wave momentum. The green growth efficiency has a lot of room for improvement; (3) The green technology progress index (TC) shows a U-shaped changing trend, and however, the TC is greater than 0.7 and approaching to 1 between 2011 and 2017, indicating that green technology progress has a promoting effect on green growth efficiency; (4) Indicating green technological progress is the main factor for improving the green growth efficiency of oil and gas resource-based cities.

Regional economies in emerging countries vary greatly in terms of their global integration. External shocks, therefore, require adjustment mechanisms that reflect local conditions. This paper focuses on the role of real exchange rates (RER) in the economic performance of regions. In particular, we use monthly data to construct RER for 77 Russian regions over the period 2000–2016. The results validate the adoption of a regional perspective by showing nontrivial differences across regions. Oil-producing and resource-based regional economies experienced much larger RER movements and higher volatility. Overall, RER appreciated steadily until a major drop in 2008, and then, again in 2014. Growth regressions show that RER depreciations have a stimulating effect on regional performance but only in the short run. These results confirm previous findings indicating that RER are a key facilitating factor but not a major determinant of growth and are thus unlikely to produce sustainable development.

Innovative marketing practices are essential for firms to increase sales and profitability. This paper aims to investigate the determinants of firms’ marketing innovation based on the employment of resource-based view and stakeholder theory. A probit regression model linking marketing innovation with proxies of firms’ resources and pressures from firms’ stakeholders was tested based on a dataset of 5,857 Vietnamese enterprises taken from a survey by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam in 2016. The findings indicate that firms’ size decreases the probability of marketing innovation by 1%, while internal knowledge gained from internal R&D causes the probability of marketing innovation to increase by 0.18%. Besides, the political connection and collaborations with competitors and private consultants drive the probability that firms implement the marketing innovation up by 0.09%, 0.12%, and 0.09%, respectively. On the other hand, export-oriented firms are more likely to implement marketing innovation by 0.03%, while foreign ownership reduces the chance of this decision by 0.05%. This research also reveals the essential role of the firm’s market pressures to enter into new markets or improve product quality in encouraging marketing innovation by 0.16% and 0.13%, respectively. The growth of mobile workforces to support diversified resource extraction activities, compared to historically single-industry towns, represents a key change in rural and remote resource landscapes that has accelerated since the 1980s. Mobile workforces can present many opportunities to rural communities and economies. However, the capacity, viability and competitiveness of rural-based businesses to engage in supply chains serving mobile labour may be undermined by limited attention to how businesses manoeuvre downturns while maintaining a level of readiness to recover and scale-up in order to meet emerging mobile workforce needs. Drawing upon interviews with businesses in Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada, our research uses the concept of resiliency to examine challenges and strategies associated with business capacity and agility to scale-up and scale-down in response to changing economic conditions associated with large-scale mobile workforces and related economic sectors. Our findings suggest that the capacity to scale-up and scale-down is shaped by capital, human resource and infrastructure strategies, inventory management and contract management strategies. Industry and state policies may also play a role supporting the conditions that will improve the agility, capacity and readiness of businesses operating in volatile resource-based economies.

PurposeBesides small- and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) constraints, there is a lack of critical observations of the human capital model naturally inspiring themselves from within. Therefore this paper exposes the factors of emotional intelligence (EI) that make entrepreneurs gain sustainable competitiveness.Design/methodology/approachA data of self-administered survey from 397 SMEs in Malaysia was investigated using regression analysis.FindingsThe results reveal factors of EI comprised of self-confidence, self-innovation, self-inspiration and self-vision that have significant positive impacts on entrepreneurial performance. Amazingly, EI contributes almost 30% of the success, where self-vision and self-innovation are the robust EI to strengthen and sustain entrepreneurial performance. In contrast, self-confidence and self-inspiration are generic EI of human capital and easy to be applied by rivals.Research limitations/implicationsThe study provides a comparative benchmark model for SMEs, managers and entrepreneurs inspiring themselves from within that they can emulate and attain the same success. SMEs can obtain success by investing and culturing EI factors within themselves.Practical implicationsThe study provides a comparative benchmark model for SMEs and managers inspiring themselves from within and expands the theory of heterogeneous SMEs and the human capital to sustainable business and competitiveness. SMEs can obtain success through capitalizing human capital attributes within themselves.Originality/valueThe study is the first providing the viable model for SMEs or entrepreneurs leading themselves from within, to their action, behaviour, decision and achievement or the performance mechanism with a benchmark model of entrepreneur EI as a booster.

Innovation capacity has become a crucial factor determining the future competitiveness of resource-based cities (RBCs). To realise sustainable development, RBCs need to adopt innovation and a system to initiate the related institutional factors. Traditional methods for evaluating innovation efficiency fail to consider the internal operation processes of the innovation system. In this study, a regional innovation system was deconstructed into two inter-relational chained substages of innovation. This study focuses on a typical resource-based city, Qitaihe, in the Old Northeast Industrial Bases of China. It establishes a non-radial SBM-based superefficiency model to examine technological innovation—of the city's overall efficiency and that of every substage—to better determine the root causes of internal inefficiencies amidst innovation production. The results of this study suggest the following: (1) resources exert an obvious crowding-out effect on innovation, and the technological research and development (RD and (2) to break the ‘resource curse’, RBCs should focus their measures on boosting the efficiency of R&D personnel. This study offers another perspective on China's experience that might be beneficial for other countries.

Non-point source (NPS) pollution is a major cause of the deterioration of surface water quality. Effectively controlling NPS pollution, especially that from rural areas, is critical in improving the quality and safety of water resources. However, most of the approaches employed for NPS control are low-efficiency or impractical owing to ignorance of the willingness of participants, as well as the high cost. To improve the effectiveness and efficiency, this study newly proposes a resource-based approach for agricultural NPS pollution control via using biological agents. In this approach, the domestic organic waste and livestock manure are economically utilized to produce organic fertilizers and plant protection agents to replace harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides, respectively. The approach has been applied in the Danjiangkou catchment area in Nanyang City, and the results show that: (1) the most severe pollutants, total P and total N concentrations have been effectively reduced and their values in 2025 are predicted to be the same level as that before significant deterioration; (2) with unpowered sewage treatment and spontaneous participation of farmers, the treatment cost is significantly reduced; (3) the resource-based treatment of domestic waste and livestock manure supports the development of an efficient and sustainable agricultural economy. HIGHLIGHTS The resource-based approach is cost-saving and efficient for agricultural NPS pollution control.; The domestic sewage is treated with micro-power or no power.; The domestic organic waste and livestock manure are economically utilized.; A spontaneous collaboration arises between villagers, enterprises, and governments.

PurposeBuilding upon insights from institutional theory and resource-based view (RBV), the aim of this study is to investigate the direct effects of stakeholder pressures on organizational resources, organizational capabilities and green export business strategy and to explore the indirect impacts of organizational resources and capabilities on the link between stakeholder pressure and green business strategy from an emerging economy.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative study was conducted to test the conceptual model within this study. In total, 235 questionnaires were collected from Turkish exporting manufacturing companies and the data was analyzed through structural equation modeling.FindingsThe results of the study demonstrated that stakeholder pressures have strong and positive effects on organizational resources and organizational capabilities for firms from emerging markets. Also, organizational resources, capabilities and stakeholder pressures have significant impacts on green export business strategy, which in turn, influences positively export market and financial performance.Practical implicationsSeveral implications were presented in this study via examining the forces affecting companies' environmental strategies and how implementing these strategies result in favorable gains in their international operations for emerging country exporters.Originality/valueThe contribution of this study lies in the under-researched context, in discussing the mutually and contradictory roles played by stakeholders and in examining determinants of the adoption of green strategies by emerging-market exporters. In this sense, stakeholders make the life of the company tougher at home by demanding a greener posture; on the other hand, by doing so, they prompt the company to be competitive when selling to developed markets.

It is a known fact that organizational strategies have created a competitive advantage of organizations. However, this competitiveness can be achieved only with the proper deployment of human, physical, and organizational resources. A study on the resource-based paradigm, specifically on human assets, explores the significance of human involvement and human investment perspective in enterprises. In view of that, a mixed approach, with a quantitative and qualitative survey was conducted in randomly selected manufacture industries in the UAE. The statistical analysis, with the help of SPSS 20 confirms the correlation between this model with its latent variables, talent management and change management, towards a strategic move. Moreover, the results prove that this RBV can enhance the mobility of various resources in the organization, maintain a culture, uphold gain-sharing, and boost network opportunities for the organizational and individual competencies.

This paper has analyzed the dynamics mechanism of resource enterprises community vulnerability, selected the key factor of resources to establish a nonlinear dynamical model. The model reveals the constrained relation ship between the number of vulnerable enterprises and resource shortage rate, and the same relationship between t vulnerable enterprise numbers and the owning rate of resource market by the biggest enterprise in re source-type enterprises community of China. The results showed that, the shortage rate of resources take up more percentage than the occupancy of resource rate of the strongest enterprises in Enterprise community when D>q. the characteristics and patterns of the Chinese enterprise evolution are as follows, (1) The strongest enterprises n1 will decline or transform in the enterprise community. (2) The enterprises which survived after the shortage of resources will go through three stages: ① resistance stage; ② recovery stage; ③ stable stage. We believe that there are three move ments that can make sure the resource-based enterprises community keep growing continuously in the competitive market for resources, (1) under stand the enterprise resources shortage rate and the strongest enterprises share in resource rate in enterprise community, (2) follow the even-odd symmetry or odd-even symmetry laws based on the familiarity of a re source economy, (3) put the enterprises in the suitable position.

PurposeWhile studies have established that networking is an investment in an individual's career that pays off, recent research has begun to examine the potential costs of networking. This study suggests that prior research is limited in scope, as it remains focused on the work domain. Drawing upon the work home resources model (Ten Brummelhuis and Bakker, 2012), the authors broaden this perspective and develop a framework of negative consequences in nonwork domains. The paper proposes that networking generates costs in nonwork domains, because it requires the investment of finite energy resources in the work domain, and people lack these resources in other domains.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses structural equation modeling of multisource data from N = 306 individuals and their partners to examine how networking affects two distinct nonwork outcomes: work–family conflict and work–life balance.FindingsAnalyses support the general framework: networking is related to time- and strain-based work–family conflict, and work time mediates the relationship between networking and these forms of conflict. Moreover, networking exhibits an inverted U-shaped relationship with work–life balance, indicating that excessive networking as well as a lack of networking decrease work–life balance.Originality/valueThis study adds to the emergent literature on the negative consequences of networking. The findings suggest that employees and organizations should adopt a broader and more balanced perspective on networking: one that takes the well-known benefits – but also potential costs in work and nonwork domains – into account.

Drawing on the resource based approach and capabilities viewpoint, in this research it has been examined whether BGs’ and Traditionally Internationalized Companies/Traditional Exporters show differences in terms of organizational capabilities that are thought to have an impact on the early and rapid internationalization of BGs, and the effect of the organizational capabilities on the probability of a company’s being classified as a BG or as a TC, as well as their effects on their export performance at different levels (all SMEs, BGs, TCs). The study was carried out with a survey of 112 exporter SMEs (61 of them were TCs and 51 BGs) in the Aegean Exporters' Associations list. In this study various research models have been developed and many findings have been reached that will contribute to the literature.

We study firm level antecedents that drive different motives of internationalization of emerging economy firms. Based on firm's resource based considerations of asset exploitation versus asset augmentation and locational advantages of host countries, we provide a framework to classify the motives of internationalization of emerging economy firms belonging to knowledge intensive industries. Motives of internationalization have been classified into three broad categories – market-seeking, opportunity-seeking, and strategic asset-seeking. We determine motives behind different modes of internationalization – alliances, acquisitions, and greenfield ventures. Drawing upon the adaptability, amalgamation, and ambidexterity (AAA) advantages from the springboard perspective, we find that firm characteristics like R&D investments, availability of financial slack, firm's ownership structure, and family control shape up its motive of internationalization.

Focusing on the deficiency of intuition, real-time and complexity of threat evaluation of radiation resource, an algorithm based on improved radar chart method (RCM) is proposed in this paper. In the algorithm proposed, coarse sorting is integrated with fine sorting to obtain a more accurate and reliable result of threat evaluation. Coarse sorting is applied to sequence all the radiation resource roughly according to radar operation mode, and reduce the task priority of low-threat radiation resource. Then, on the basis of improved RCM, fine sorting is applied to sequence the radiation resource with same radar operation mode. Finally, obtain the results of threat evaluation which combined coarse sorting with fine sorting. Simulation analysis shows the correctness and effectiveness of this algorithm. Comparing with classical method of threat evaluation of radiation resource based on RCM, the algorithm proposed in this paper is more visual in image and can work quickly with lower complexity.
