Introduction: Colon interposition is an alternative solution for esophageal reconstruction if the stomach cannot be used. The study reviews current indications and results of coloplasty for cancer., Methods: Patients who underwent colon interposition for gastro-esophageal malignancy were included. Primary coloplasty was defined as upfront colon interposition. Salvage coloplasty was defined as colon interposition after primary reconstruction failure. Mortality, morbidity, function, and survival were evaluated., Results: We included 28 patients (24 men, median age 61 years). Ten (36%) patients underwent primary coloplasty due to previous gastrectomy (n = 5), conduit gastric cancer (n = 2), extensive gastroesophageal involvement (n = 2), and gastric cancer recurrence (n = 1). Salvage coloplasty was performed in 18 (64%) patients for postoperative graft necrosis (n = 5) and intractable strictures (n = 3). Operative mortality, morbidity, and graft necrosis rates were 14% (4/28), 86% (24/28), and 14% (4/28), respectively; there were no significant differences between primary and salvage coloplasty. Survival rates at 1-, 3-, and 5 years were 81%, 51%, and 38%, respectively. Survival was decreased after primary coloplasty when compared to salvage coloplasty (P = 0.03). Nine patients experienced tumor recurrence (primary: n = 6, salvage: n = 3) after coloplasty and eight of them died., Conclusion: Colon interposition after esophagectomy is a useful but morbid endeavor. Colon interposition as salvage therapy is associated with improved survival compared to its use as primary esophageal replacement, and colon interposition in the latter cohort should be used with caution due to poor cancer-specific survival in this patient population., (© 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Objectives: To evaluate the quality of life of the holders of a ureteral double J stent (US) using the USSQ questionnaire (Ureteral Stent Symptom Questionnaire), validated in French in 2010., Methods: Between January 2009 and December 2011, 249 patients underwent flexible ureteroscopy for urolithiais in our service. Among them, 160 received a US in perioperative, and they were sent self-questionnaire USSQ-FR retrospectively. The questionnaire includes 38 questions, concerning the perioperative period with US, and 4 weeks after its removal, grouped into 6 sections: urinary symptoms, pain, general health, professional resounding, sexual resounding, and other problems. A subgroup analysis was performed, comparing US used in emergency and planned US, active patients or retired, male or female. Statistical analysis used the Chi(2) test for paired data, the Fisher exact test and the Kruskal Wallis test., Results: Of the 157 questionnaires sent (two patients who died, one mentally retarded), we obtained 80 responses. Quality of life appears to be significantly altered in all areas explored by the questionnaire. Urinary symptoms: 26.9 versus 19.9 score (P<0.0001), pain: 16.1 versus 10.7 (P=0.003), general health: 13.9 versus 9.1 (P<0.0001), professional practice: 6.1 versus 3.6 (P=0.0002), female: 3.3 versus 1.8 (P=0.001). There was no significant difference if the US was placed in emergency or programmatically, if patients were professionally active or retired. In addition, women had a significantly impaired quality of life compared to men for urinary symptoms, general health and professional practice., Conclusion: US are responsible for a significant impairment of quality of life for patients. Single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy is considered as a form of natural orifice surgery with better esthetic outcomes than traditional laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It is a technically demanding procedure, and no adequately powered trial has assessed the safety of this technique. Vascular injuries are less common than bile duct injuries during this procedure, but they can be rapidly fatal. The development of a right hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm is a rare but serious complication associated with single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Two weeks following a single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy for angiocholitis, a 40-year-old male patient presented with obstructive jaundice and persistent abdominal pain. The diagnosis of compressive hematoma due to a ruptured right hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm was confirmed by computed tomography scan and angiography. It was successfully treated by selective embolization of the right hepatic artery. In our experience, endovascular management was a noninvasive and effective treatment of ruptured pseudoaneurysms.
