We study the growth of the absolute value | Δ p | of the discriminant of the F p -endomorphism ring of the reduction of ψ modulo p and prove that, for all p , | Δ p | grows with | p | . Let $(K, v)$ be a Henselian discrete valued field with a quasifinite residue field. This paper proves the existence of an algebraic extension $E/K$ satisfying the following: (i) $E$ has dimension dim$(E) \le 1$, i.e. the Brauer group Br$(E ^{\prime })$ is trivial, for every algebraic extension $E ^{\prime }/E$; (ii) finite extensions of $E$ are not $C _{1}$-fields. This, applied to the maximal algebraic extension $K$ of the field $\mathbb{Q}$ of rational numbers in the field $\mathbb{Q} _{p}$ of $p$-adic numbers, for a given prime $p$, proves the existence of an algebraic extension $E _{p}/\mathbb{Q}$, such that dim$(E _{p}) \le 1$, $E _{p}$ is not a $C _{1}$-field, and $E _{p}$ has a Henselian valuation of residual characteristic $p$., Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX: final form, incorporates Referee's suggestions, to appear in Journal of Number Theory

Given a one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring $(R,\mathfrak{m},k)$, we prove that it is almost Gorenstein if and only if $\mathfrak{m}$ is a canonical module of the ring $\mathfrak{m}:\mathfrak{m}$. Then, we generalize this result by introducing the notions of almost canonical ideal and gAGL ring and by proving that $R$ is gAGL if and only if $\mathfrak{m}$ is an almost canonical ideal of $\mathfrak{m}:\mathfrak{m}$. We use this fact to characterize when the ring $\mathfrak{m}:\mathfrak{m}$ is almost Gorenstein, provided that $R$ has minimal multiplicity. This is a generalization of a result proved by Chau, Goto, Kumashiro, and Matsuoka in the case in which $\mathfrak{m}:\mathfrak{m}$ is local and its residue field is isomorphic to $k$.

We prove local uniformization of Abhyankar valuations of an algebraic function field K over a ground field k. Our result generalizes the proof of this result, with the additional assumption that the residue field of the valuation ring is separable over k, by Hagen Knaf and Franz-Viktor Kuhlmann. Let Λ be a basic finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk $ , and let $\widehat {\Lambda }$ be the repetitive algebra of Λ. In this article, we prove that if $\widehat {V}$ is a left $\widehat {\Lambda }$ -module with finite dimension over $\Bbbk $ , then $\widehat {V}$ has a well-defined versal deformation ring $R(\widehat {\Lambda },\widehat {V})$ , which is a local complete Noetherian commutative $\Bbbk $ -algebra whose residue field is also isomorphic to $\Bbbk $ . We also prove that $R(\widehat {\Lambda }, \widehat {V})$ is universal provided that $\underline {\text {End}}_{\widehat {\Lambda }}(\widehat {V})=\Bbbk $ and that in this situation, $R(\widehat {\Lambda }, \widehat {V})$ is stable after taking syzygies. We apply the obtained results to finite dimensional modules over the repetitive algebra of the 2-Kronecker algebra, which provides an alternative approach to the deformation theory of objects in the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves over $\mathbb {P}^{1}_{\Bbbk }$ .

In [BS07] Breuil and Schneider formulated a conjecture on the equivalence of the existence of invariant norms on certain $p$-adically locally algebraic representations of $GL_n(F)$ and the existence of certain de-Rham representations of $Gal(\bar{F}/F)$, where $F$ is a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. In [Bre03b, DI13] Breuil and de Ieso proved that in the case $n = 2$ and under some restrictions, the existence of certain admissible filtrations on the $\phi$-module associated to the two-dimensional de-Rham representation of $Gal(\bar{F}/F)$ implies the existence of invariant norms on the corresponding locally algebraic representation of $GL_2(F)$. In [Bre03b, DI13], there is a significant restriction on the weight - it must be small enough. In [CEG+13] the conjecture is proved in greater generality, but the weights are still restricted to the extended Fontaine-Laffaille range. In this paper we prove that in the case $n = 2$, even with larger weights, under some restrictions, the existence of certain admissible filtrations implies the existence of invariant norms.

Let $p$ be a prime. Let $R$ be a regular local ring of dimension $d\ge 2$ whose completion is isomorphic to $C(k)[[x_1,\ldots,x_d]]/(h)$, with $C(k)$ a Cohen ring with the same residue field $k$ as $R$ and with $h\in C(k)[[x_1,\ldots,x_d]]$ such that its reduction modulo $p$ does not belong to the ideal $(x_1^p,\ldots,x_d^p)+(x_1,\ldots,x_d)^{2p-2}$ of $k[[x_1,\ldots,x_d]]$. We extend a result of Vasiu-Zink (for $d=2$) to show that each Barsotti-Tate group over $\text{Frac}(R)$ which extends to every local ring of $\text{Spec}(R)$ of dimension $1$, extends uniquely to a Barsotti-Tate group over $R$. This result corrects in many cases several errors in the literature. As an application, we get that if $Y$ is a regular integral scheme such that the completion of each local ring of $Y$ of residue characteristic $p$ is a formal power series ring over some complete discrete valuation ring of absolute ramification index $e\le p-1$, then each Barsotti-Tate group over the generic point of $Y$ which extends to every local ring of $Y$ of dimension $1$, extends uniquely to a Barsotti-Tate group over $Y$.

Over a global field any finite number of central simple algebras of exponent dividing m is split by a common cyclic field extension of degree m. We show that the same property holds for function fields of 2-dimensional excellent schemes over a henselian local domain of dimension one or two with algebraically closed residue field.

We consider projective Hjelmslev geometries over finite chain rings of length 2 with residue field of order q. In these geometries we introduce and investigate the so-called homogeneous arcs defined as multisets of points with respect to a special weight function. These arcs are associated with linearly representable q-ary codes. We establish a relation between the parameters of a linearly representable code and the parameters of the associated arc. We prove an inequality for the largest homogeneous weight of an arc of given size N. We consider the $$\tau $$ -dual of a homogeneous arc and give an explicit formula for the homogeneous weights of the hyperplanes with respect to the dual arc. We prove that if a homogeneous arc is of constant weight, this weight is forced to be zero and the arc is a sum of neighbour classes of points. We prove various numerical conditions on the parameters of homogeneous two-weight arcs, as well as an interesting identity involving the parameters of a projective homogeneous two-weight arc and its dual, which isturns out to be also a homogeneous two-weight arc. Finally, we present examples of two-weight homogeneous arcs some of which are new.

We define a motivic conductor for any presheaf with transfers $F$ using the categorical framework developed for the theory of motives with modulus by Kahn-Miyazaki-Saito-Yamazaki. If $F$ is a reciprocity sheaf this conductor yields an increasing and exhaustive filtration on $F(L)$, where $L$ is any henselian discrete valuation field of geometric type over the perfect ground field. We show if $F$ is a smooth group scheme, then the motivic conductor extends the Rosenlicht-Serre conductor; if $F$ assigns to $X$ the group of finite characters on the abelianized \'etale fundamental group of $X$, then the motivic conductor agrees with the Artin conductor defined by Kato-Matsuda; if $F$ assigns to $X$ the group of integrable rank one connections (in characteristic zero), then it agrees with the irregularity. We also show that this machinery gives rise to a conductor for torsors under finite flat group schemes over the base field, which we believe to be new. We introduce a general notion of conductors on presheaves with transfers and show that on a reciprocity sheaf the motivic conductor is minimal and any conductor which is defined only for henselian discrete valuation fields of geometric type with {\em perfect} residue field can be uniquely extended to all such fields without any restriction on the residue field. We prove a tight bound on the number of realized $0/1$ patterns (or equivalently on the Vapnik-Chervonenkis codensity) of definable families in models of the theory of algebraically closed valued fields with a non-archimedean valuation. Our result improves the best known result in this direction proved by Aschenbrenner, Dolich, Haskell, Macpherson and Starchenko, who proved a weaker bound in the restricted case where the characteristics of the field $K$ and its residue field are both assumed to be $0$. The bound obtained here is optimal and without any restriction on the characteristics. We obtain the aforementioned bound as a consequence of another result on bounding the Betti numbers of semi-algebraic subsets of certain Berkovich analytic spaces, mirroring similar results known already in the case of o-minimal structures and for real closed, as well as, algebraically closed fields. The latter result is the first result in this direction and is possibly of independent interest. Let $\mathcal {R}$ be a commutative Frobenius local ring. A result that the injective hull of an LCD code $\mathcal {C}$ over $\mathcal {R}$ is free of dimension $\ell (\mathcal {C})$ , where $\ell (\mathcal {C})$ is the minimum over the cardinalities of the generating sets of $\mathcal {C}$ , is proved in this correspondence. Applying this result, a concise proof for the main result in a recent paper by Sanjit Bhowmick et al. is derived. Furthermore, the LCD $\lambda $ -constacyclic codes with $\lambda $ being a unit, $\pi (\lambda ^{2})=1$ and $\lambda ^{2} \neq 1$ , where $\pi $ is the natural projection of $\mathcal {R}$ to its residue field, are characterized, as another application of our result.

Let R be a discrete valuation ring with infinite residue field and X a smooth projective curve over R. Let G be a simple simply-connected group scheme over R and E a principal G-bundle over X. It is proved that E is trivial locally for the Zariski topology on X providing E is trivial over the generic point of X. The main aim of the present paper is to develop a method rather than to get a very strong concrete result.

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for log smoothness of a proper regular arithmetic surface with smooth geometrically connected generic fibre over a discrete valuation ring with perfect residue field. As an application, we recover known criteria for log smooth reduction of minimal normal crossings models of curves.

For an element $r$ of a ring $R$, a Diophantine $D(r)$ $m$-tuple is an $m$-tuple $(a_1,a_2,\ldots,a_m)$ of elements of $R$ such that for all $i,j$ with $i\neq j$, $a_ia_j+r$ is a perfect square in $R$. In this article, we compute and estimate the measures of the sets of $D(r)$ $m$-tuples in the ring $\mathbb{Z}_p$ of $p$-adic integers, as well as its residue field $\mathbb{F}_p$., 22 pages.
