Implementation science has grown considerably in school mental health over the past decade, driven by the persistent gaps between knowledge about "what works" to promote student well-being and what is typically delivered in schools. In 2014, Owens and colleagues outlined an implementation research agenda for the field of school mental health, emphasizing professional development and coaching, evidence-based practice fidelity, and sustainment. This paper provides a 10-year progress review across these domains and articulates an updated research agenda focused on: (1) pragmatic implementation strategies, (2) implementation mechanisms explaining the connection between implementation strategies and outcomes, (3) strategic intervention redesign to promote implementation, and (4) de-implementation of low-value practices. We propose critical research questions in these areas and conclude by highlighting contemporary study designs and methods (i.e., hybrid trial designs; sequential, multiple assignment, randomized trials; rapid qualitative approaches; economic analyses) that can be leveraged to investigate implementation research questions in school mental health over the next decade. In doing so, we hope to promote shared understanding of evolving implementation research priorities and opportunities to promote equitable, pragmatic, and sustainable implementation efforts in school mental health and drive synergy across projects.

Mixed methods research (MMR) can support enhanced understanding of complex educational issues, like the inclusion and support of individuals with disabilities in community and school settings. In this systematic review, we explored the extent to which MMR has been used in research exclusively focused on disability across special education (SPED), general education (GE), and disability studies in education (DSE; n = 115 studies). We examined research explicitly considering individuals with extensive support needs (ESNs) in this literature. We highlight the prevalence of MMR exploring topics relevant to individuals with ESN and features of this body of work, including (a) participants in these studies, (b) the presence of theoretical and/or conceptual framing for the research, (c) the goals/aims of the research studies, (d) the purposes for mixing, and (e) the data-generation methods used by the authors. We discuss patterns in the data that reflect differences across subfields, presumptions of competence, and ways ableism shapes research studies. Implications for research and practice to improve inclusive experiences for individuals with ESN are discussed.

There continues to be a call for research focused on better understanding and supporting the needs of students with minoritized identities. A review of school psychology research reveals that while the field has made strides, there still is an underrepresentation of research in this area. The trend toward centering diversity in research demonstrate efforts within the field to include more representation of minoritized groups despite the lack of diversity plaguing the profession. It is, therefore, vital for researchers to determine whether their practices cause undue harm to students in ways that fail to understand their strengths, muting their voices, and de-centering their experiences. As such, researchers must intentionally and iteratively examine their research aims and methodology to more equitably incorporate diverse student groups in their studies. In this paper, we discuss the significance of how minoritized groups are included (e.g., aggregated) and methodological considerations for advancing singular research methods. We propose the integration of mixed methods research to mitigate the shortcomings of a single method and obtain a more holistic view of students. Together, this is a call of action for researchers to intentionally and more consistently include minoritized students in research in ways that authentically affirm their identities.

This systematic meta-analytic review investigated the relations between achievement goals and internalizing symptoms and disorders, namely, anxiety and depression. The number of samples for each focal relationship ranged from 3 to 36. The results indicated significant effect sizes for the relations between mastery-approach goals and anxiety (r = - 0.10) and depression (r = - 0.18), as well as performance-avoidance goals and anxiety (r = 0.25) and depression (r = 0.16). A significant effect size was also found for the relation between performance-approach goals and anxiety (r = 0.15), and a non-significant effect size was observed for the relation between performance-approach goals and depression (r = 0.05). Mastery-avoidance goals were not significantly related to either anxiety (r = 0.08) or depression (r = - 0.13). Several moderators representing the conceptualization of achievement goals (e.g., theoretical model), sample characteristics (e.g., education level), and methodology- and publication-based characteristics (e.g., year of publication) were significant, and suggested avenues for future research. These findings herein have implications for intervention programs that could focus on reducing the links between achievement goals and internalizing problems.

Pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) traditionally has been used in research concerning prospective and practicing classroom teachers. This essay argues that PCK is also relevant to other professions including those advancing quantitative reasoning (QR). To illustrate, the case of PCK for teaching QR is considered. Those in fields such as public health, journalism, meteorology, and government increasingly find themselves responsible for helping the public understand an ever-growing amount of quantitative information that has a bearing on societal well-being. Several examples illustrate how such professionals' responsibilities require knowing prevalent QR patterns in society, strategies for fostering sound reasoning, and the general nature of school curricula. Professional organizations in education, colleges of education, and educational researchers would benefit from expanding PCK research to encompass multiple professions. These expanded research and development efforts would simultaneously address urgent societal needs.

The use of Augmented Reality (AR) is a relatively new but significant trend in the educational landscape, including in technology education. The aim of this article is to discuss different perspectives on AR applications and describe the similarities, possibilities, and differences between them. Initial research in the field of technology education has shown numerous applications, especially since many tools, machines, and techniques must be learned in the hands-on practical sector, a discipline where AR is already being used in the industrial sector. However, there are even more applications in the industrial context. The resources utilized in these cases are often not available in the education sector, and the requirements for such systems differ between educational and industrial applications. When considering the specific application of AR in schools, it offers yet another perspective compared to educational research and industrial applications. Based on the results of an exploratory study among technology teachers in Lower Saxony, it becomes clear that costs, accessibility, and the lack (thus far) of appropriate learning materials are seen by teachers as the biggest challenges to effectively using AR in schools. It is noted that research and development projects in general technology education are necessary to effectively implement AR in technology education.

This collaborative-participatory research aimed to develop the research agenda of the college of teacher education (CTE) of a state university in Zambales, Philippines from 2017 to 2021. The research involved the core research group, faculty researchers, campus and university officials, and stakeholders such as students, alumni, and partner agencies (department of education (DeEd) faculty and administrators). The study was carried out in the first quarter of 2017 to develop the CTE research agenda framework, identify the key research areas, and present to the stakeholders. During the third quarter of 2018, the developed research agenda was revisited and reformulated as the university was converted into a more comprehensive university. A total of six themes were included in the final CTE research agenda framework with corresponding theme descriptions and research topics. The use of participatory-collaborative research effectively develops a college research agenda of the CTE. The processes involved in research agenda setting can serve as a basis for other teacher education institutions (TEIs) in coming up with their respective research agenda geared towards uplifting the quality of teacher education. The study could also serve as a guide for other colleges in formulating and revisiting their research agenda.

This study aims to determine how technophobia, or dread of technology, hinders education and offers future research recommendations. Utilizing systematic reviews, researchers scoured numerous research sources for articles on technophobia in education. The admissions criteria were established, and 18 research works that met those criteria were selected for the study. The results suggest that fear of technology makes it more difficult for people to embrace and utilize it in education, and the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the trend toward online education, bringing new challenges and obstacles. The study suggests additional research into the causes of technophobia, its effects on students, the efficacy of teacher training programs, and the effect of teaching methods on students' dread of technology. Lastly, the study suggests that students, instructors, and education support personnel devise effective strategies to combat technophobia.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed significant weaknesses in education systems globally, with many African countries, including Nigeria, struggling to respond swiftly to its impact. In Nigeria, the challenge was compounded by ongoing insurgency and insecurity, leading to extended school closures. To mitigate these disruptions, educational institutions adopted emergency remote teaching and learning methods, indirectly highlighting the potential of open, distance, and eLearning (ODeL). However, these initiatives often lacked proper ODeL design and pedagogical components. In response to these issues, a National Research Fund project, sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) titled "Setting an Agenda for Research into Open, Distance, and eLearning in the Global South: Nigeria as a Case Study" was initiated. The project aimed to identify gaps, high-priority areas, and research trends in ODeL to inform policy and guide practices amidst numerous challenges. This study aimed to investigate priority areas within ODeL that deserve more research attention and to offer insights into how this research could contribute to more resilient educational systems and promote innovative practices. The study employed a mixed-method approach, starting with an online survey of randomly selected 382 ODeL practitioners from Nigerian higher education institutions, followed by in-depth interviews with 26 purposefully selected ODeL experts. The findings revealed a consensus on key research areas, including learner support, technology, and instructional delivery. The study identified emerging research priorities specific to the African context. Addressing these key areas could significantly contribute to developing resilient education systems and promoting innovative educational practices in Nigeria and beyond.

Research in self-compassion has rapidly increased. Providing a comprehension of the scientific knowledge landscape will be helpful for researchers to identify the gaps and develop future research ideas in this field without subjectivity. Thus, overarching structures in self-compassion Scopus-indexed research were sought to be analysed here. Bibliometric techniques were used to extract documents indexed in Scopus under the domain of self-compassion (N = 1,764 articles) using bibliophily, a web interface of the Bibliometrix 3.0 and VOSviewer to conduct analysis and visualisation. The number of published articles shows an upward trend; the United States occupies the leading position in publication volumes and citations. Undoubtedly, K. D. Neff and her sustained cited model were reported as a prolific author and influential article in self-compassion literature. The top affiliation was the University of Texas at Austin, which was the leading university in both production and citation. Mindfulness was a key journal that was considered in publication volume and received citations; however, authors tended to publish from diverse selected sources. The top 50 most frequently used terms were related to individual differences and psychological status. Finally, the thematic mapping provided a comprehensive illustration showing significant themes and knowledge gaps in self-compassion research, which categorised individual differences as basic, measurement validation as niche and PTSD as emerging themes. The current findings presented scientific mappings and extensive tables containing information that usefully proposes future directions and the critical broader scope of research in self-compassion.

This paper presents a concise review of research articles focusing on Quality Assurance (QA) in Higher Education post-2019. The review encompasses various aspects such as methodologies, frameworks, challenges, and advancements in ensuring educational quality. It synthesizes findings from diverse scholarly works, highlighting emerging trends and key insights. Through this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the evolving landscape of QA in higher education, identifying critical areas for further research and policy development.

This article analyses the extent to which German history curricula address aspects of diversity. The curricula are analysed in terms of whether they include diagnostic phases to identify students' individual interests. It also examines whether the historical experiences of minorities and the agency of subaltern groups are addressed. The extent to which the curricula abandon a Eurocentric perspective and integrate global historical aspects will also be considered. Methodologically, the curricula of two main school types in all German states were analysed by means of a qualitative content analysis. The focus was on curricula for lower and upper secondary schools. The results show that diversity is usually addressed only from the perspective of established narratives. A national and Eurocentric history continues to dominate the curricula. Only a few curricula explicitly address the diagnosis of students' performance and ideas. Finally, the paper discusses the evolving nature of curricula, influenced by societal needs and growing sensitivity to social diversity. It highlights the need for future research on diversity in teacher education and the practicality of implementing complex concepts such as postcolonial thought in the classroom. More empirical research is needed on current curricula and the teaching of history in different regions and types of school.

The economic impact of resource investments into higher education has been the focus of considerable research in recent years. Many contributions analyse the strength of the connection between economic development and higher education at the local level and the conditions which make certain systems more effective and efficient than others. In this paper, we provide a systematic bibliometric review of the available literature on the subject, various dimensions of this complex issue, constructing and analysing a map of variables used by selected researchers in the field. A summary of knowledge gaps, research limitations, topics explored and applied methods is provided to envisage future research in this field.

Health professions education (HPE) research in the General Practice domain (GP-HPE) is vital for high-quality healthcare. Collaboration among GP-HPE researchers is crucial but challenging. Formulating a research agenda, involving stakeholders, and fostering inter-institutional collaboration can address these challenges and connect educational research and practice. We used Q-methodology to explore perspectives on GP-HPE research of participants from all Dutch postgraduate GP training institutes. Participants individually sorted statements based on the relevance of future GP-HPE research for educational practice. Data analysis comprised inverted factor analysis, rotation, and qualitative interpretation of configurations of all statements. The National Meeting on Educational Research took a participatory approach. We included 73 participants with diverse involvement in GP-HPE research. We identified five distinct perspectives, each representing a research focus area for developing and innovating GP education: the clinician scientist, the socially engaged GP, the specific GP identity, the GP as an entrepreneur, and the GP engaged in lifelong learning. The resulting five perspectives align with General Practice hallmarks. Q-methodology and a participatory approach facilitated collaboration among stakeholders. Successful inter-institutional collaboration requires a common goal, neutral leadership, participant commitment, regular meetings, audit trail support, process transparency, and reflexivity. Future research should address evidence gaps within these perspectives. Using Q-methodology turned out to be valuable for compiling a national research agenda for GP-HPE research. The research process helped to cross boundaries between researchers in different institutions, thus putting inter-institutional collaborative advantage center stage. Our approach could provide a conceivable procedure for HPE researchers worldwide.

Studies investigating autistic community research priorities indicate a mismatch between what autism research focuses on and what autistic people want to see researched. Furthermore, there has not been a research priority-setting exercise specifically with autistic people in Scotland, where there are unique cultural, political and social contexts. Using a community-based participatory design, we aimed to identify the research priorities of autistic adults living in Scotland. Autistic and non-autistic researchers designed and conducted a survey where 225 autistic adults rated and ranked research topics in order of importance and provided qualitative feedback on issues and questions important to them. The top five research priorities were mental health/well-being, identification and diagnosis of autistic people, support services, knowledge and attitudes towards autistic people and issues impacting autistic women. There were differences in priorities according to different intersections of identity, and qualitative responses indicated a desire for research to focus on support and understanding. The bottom three priorities concerned genetics, treatments and interventions and causes. These findings emphasise the need to address the gap between what autism research focuses on and the everyday lives of autistic people.

Causal evaluations in teacher education are rare. Underlying reasons include a lack of clearly defined treatments, a lack of research designs that can work in the context of teacher education programs, and a lack of resources for enacting these designs. This article provides a framework for how to fill these gaps. We first propose an approach to conceptualizing treatments and then describe two research designs suited to the needs of the field. Finally, we discuss resources key to advancing causal research in teacher education at scale.

Study abroad (SA) has long been regarded as a key component of internationalization efforts in higher education and much scholarship has investigated the practices and outcomes of SA from varied perspectives. More recently, scholars have paid growing attention to ways to increase the participation of historically marginalized students in SA, to design SA programs to meet those students' needs, and to document their experiences abroad. Despite recent scholarship in these areas, relatively little research has employed an equity lens to address research on language-focused SA. This article puts forward language-focused SA as a possible venue to pursue equity and to provide quality education for all students, especially for historically underserved students. More specifically, we address three overarching questions: (1) What theoretical frameworks could be implemented to research SA through an equity lens?; (2) What methodological approaches could inform SA research with an equity lens?; and (3) What topics could be examined to research SA through an equity lens? Drawing on equity as a guiding principle, we discuss relevant research tasks that demonstrate specific ways to address these overarching questions in future research on language-focused SA.

While research evidence has the potential to improve classroom practice, research-practice gaps continue to persist not least owing to the limited relevance of research findings for practice. A common approach in healthcare to address the research-practice gap is to form research priority setting partnerships (PSPs) in which stakeholders identify questions they would like research to answer. This paper presents the results from such a PSP in education with a focus on cognitive science research, which has received increased attention in the past few years owing to its potential to explain memory and learning processes and inform classroom practice. Over 400 questions from teachers were collected using an online survey. The final 15 research priorities highlight the need for research on a wider range of subjects, settings and phases as well as research designs that take the complexity of classrooms into consideration and aim to answer how different teaching strategies interact with each other as well as student motivation and agency at the micro- and macro-level. The role of teacher expertise vs. fidelity to original research designs should also be investigated further. Overall, this paper highlights the importance of taking teacher voice into account to ensure that new research in the field is both academically rigorous and practically relevant.

In this article, we discuss major themes on Black males' mental health that have emerged from this monograph. We will also discuss and emphasize how various institutional agents such as student affairs practitioners, faculty, and administrators can use this information to better support Black males in higher education. Finally, we will also discuss implications for future research in student services.

Despite its mainstreaming into the broader educational ecology, open and distance education (ODE) still leaves much to be desired in terms of both practice and research. Inspired and informed by the author's 35 years of experience as an ODE practitioner, researcher, reviewer, and editor, this article concentrates on 10 critical issues of ODE research that have long existed but may have a consequential impact on its healthy growth. The issues discussed cover scarcity of longitudinal research, paucity of scaling-up and generalization research, preference for success over failure presented in research, the need for a systems approach, lack of sociocultural sensitivity, technologization of research, scant attention to ODE for the underprivileged and disadvantaged, insufficient research on ODE policy, negligence of historical research, and disinterest in revisiting ODE theories. The causes of these problems are critically interpreted and their possible negative impacts on the field of ODE are explored in a concise manner. The purpose of this article is to encourage further discussion and debate on ODE research to sustain its presence and acceptance as a legitimate mode of education in the wider educational community.

South African higher education policies have since 1997 called for the expansion of research collaboration with the African continent and Global South. In this article, the authors' analysed South Africa's international research collaboration trends and patterns during the 2012-2021 period. Focusing on co-authored scholarly publications, the authors' analysed bibliometric data from Scopus, highlighting the countries South African public universities have collaborated and produced knowledge with, and the parts of the world they have neglected in the past decade. The findings highlight the growth of South Africa's international research collaboration and the expansion of the number of countries universities collaborate with. While the past decade has seen a growth in research collaboration with Brazil, Russia, India, China and Nigeria, South African universities continue to be largely Eurocentric and prioritise collaboration with the Global North while sidelining research collaboration with the African continent and Global South. Contribution: The findings presented in this article contribute to an understanding of South Africa's international research collaboration footprint during 2012-2021 and highlight which parts of the world should be prioritised by universities in the expansion of research collaboration in the future.

The current LGBTQIA+-hostile political climate highlights a growing need among school librarians for evidence-based support addressing inclusive professional practices. To establish a baseline of studies providing this evidence and to identify areas where further research is needed, this study used systematic literature review methodology to examine international empirical research in the field of school and youth librarianship published between the years of 2009 and 2021. The study's objectives were to identify and categorize published empirical research on LGBTQIA+ topics in school and youth librarianship and to identify and categorize gaps in that research, proposing focuses for future research studies. Findings determined that little research has been done to examine LGBTQIA+ inclusive school library services for youth. Also revealed was a monolithic approach to the discussion of LGBTQIA+ identities and expressions. More research in this area and the employment of diverse methodologies to uncover a detailed and expansive picture of what LGBTQIA+ inclusive service means are desperately needed.

The current study aimed: (1) to analyse teachers' view profiles from positive to negative based on the analysis of influencing factors and (2) to investigate the most studied concepts and methods in this context. According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive review of 25 peer-reviewed articles published between January 2010 and December 2022. Our findings show a landscape in which concepts related to mathematics teaching and learning often intersect with other domains. Nevertheless, a distinction exists in the definition of the fundamental concept, with limited attention given to mathematics learning and the role of students in contrast to the focus on mathematics teaching and the role of teachers. Our research highlights the necessity of thorough exploration of the dynamic factors that influence these views and their associated outcomes, categorised as: (A) mutual consistency, (B) weak consistency, and (C) inconsistency, each providing distinct implications for support needs. Additionally, from an ontological perspective on affect, many studies overlook the notion of "view" as a state or trait characteristic, potentially leading to inappropriate method selection. Therefore, we propose recommendations for future research, advocating for methodological precision, expanded object exploration, dynamic profiling, and the inclusion of diverse teacher categories.

Higher education institutions are moving towards highlighting the importance of research. According to the Department of Higher Education and Training in South Africa, the status of higher education institutions will be determined by the extent to which they are engaged in research and research-related activities. Higher education institutions have a role to play in generating new knowledge as well as producing appropriately skilled professionals. The current study explored key stakeholders' perspectives of the role of the research units within a faculty of health sciences that is clinically driven, and how these units could contribute towards developing and strengthening interprofessional postgraduate research, collaboration and capacity development amongst staff. The study adopted a qualitative, exploratory descriptive approach. Data were gathered from individual face-to-face, in-depth semi-structured interviews with 15 participants. Five themes emerged from the thematic analysis, namely: i) "There's been intentions and there is the reality"; ii) "Driving the research agenda and pulling it together"; iii) "The stronger your base, the stronger your output, the stronger your future: Creating a succession pipeline"; iv) "It takes a specific kind of personality to run a Unit" and v) "The climate has changed, views have changed". The findings of the study clearly indicated that the stakeholders perceived the role of the Units differently. The establishment of a 'Faculty Research Centre' with a contextually relevant framework or model could contribute towards developing a clear understanding and consistent description of a research centre. It may also facilitate the strengthening interprofessional, postgraduate research, collaboration, and capacity development amongst staff.

Education in the correctional environment is endorsed as an effective rehabilitative tool linked to reducing recidivism and improving reintegration. Unfortunately, while researchers from the Global North are particularly active on the subject of the accessibility of digital education in corrections, the same cannot be said for the Global South. Of further concern is that few of the studies conducted have focused specifically on incarcerated women's access to education. As discussed in the literature review to follow, research regarding higher education in corrections has the potential for expanding academics, stakeholders, and policy makers understanding of incarcerated students' pathways towards education attainment. Using an intersectional feminist framework, I argue that there is a need for further research on Global South and gender responsive perspectives on carceral education. Research on the topic can identify opportunities offered and challenges faced, as well as the possible implications for students broader societal functioning post-release.

Young refugee populations continue to grow. This scoping review aims to identify and summarize studies of programs that provide linguistically responsive practices for children who are refugees. Secondary aims of this review are: (a) to identify the gaps in the literature, and (b) to suggest future research and policy directions. By studying key features of linguistically responsive practices for children who are refugees, we can better understand the important components of a high-quality inclusive and equitable environment for all children, including those with minority language backgrounds. We conducted an electronic database search and identified 14 studies. Studies varied in location, country of origin, and language support. The findings from this review revealed a critical need to develop, implement, and study linguistically responsive programs for children who are refugees in host countries.

Autistic adults experience disparities in physical health and health care access. A major barrier to addressing these disparities is a lack of federal funding for research on this topic. In seeking funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), we discovered nodes that contribute to structural discrimination in physical health--related research for autistic adults. To examine this structural discrimination, we systematically searched funded research on all physical health--disparity conditions in autistic adults using NIH RePORTER. Among 61 unique studies, none focused on improving the relevant physical health condition through intervention, programs, or services for autistic adults. Thus, we need updated policies and procedures that support research on physical health disparities in populations with developmental or mental health conditions.

MOOCs (massive open online courses) have attracted considerable attention from researchers. Fueled by constant change and developments in educational technology, the trends of MOOCs have varied greatly over the years. To detect and visualize the developments and changes in MOOC research, 4,652 articles published between 2009 and 2021 were retrieved from Web of Science and Scopus with the aid of CiteSpace. This study sought to explore the number of publications, co-citation network, cluster analysis, timeline analysis, burstness analysis, and dual-map overlays based on co-citation relationships. The first finding was that the number of publications on MOOCs had increased consistently, and grew especially quickly between 2013 and 2015. Second, the main topic of the top 10 co-cited studies revolved around the problem of learner continuance. Third, blended programs, task-technology fit, and comparative analysis have emerged as popular subjects. Fourth, the development of MOOC research has followed distinct phases, with 2009 to 2012 the starting phase, 2013 to 2015 the high growth phase, 2016 to 2018 the plateau phase, and 2019 to 2021 another peak phase. Lastly, both cluster analysis and dual-map overlays provided empirical evidence of cross-disciplinary research. Our findings provided an in-depth and dynamic understanding of the development and evolution of MOOC research and also proposed novel ideas for future studies.

With the changing and developing technology, numerous new systems that cannot be given up and have a great impact are becoming a part of our lives. Augmented reality (AR) is one of these systems which can be claimed as magic. AR has been gaining considerable interest in the field of education, and language learning since Pokémon Go, the most well-known AR location-based game, was launched. There has been much evidence to support the effectiveness of AR in education. The present study set out to review in detail the current research studies published in SSCI/ESCI/ERIC indexed privileged journals in the field of language education and technology within the last five years, on the topic of augmented reality in language learning. The selection of articles was made on the basis of empirical studies on the use of AR in language education. Surprisingly, only seventeen studies seem to fall into the said category in these selected, SSCI/ESCI/ERIC journals. On the grounds that there emerges a lack of such studies and complying with the nature of the present study, all these articles have been reviewed in detail, in terms of three aspects: (1) research features, such as research focus, design, data collection tools, study, and educational context; (2) the use of AR, such as theory behind AR use, and AR applications used in the studies; (3) results of the studies. The results showed that much emphasis has been on vocabulary learning, the learning effectiveness, attitudes, and motivations of language learners with scant attention given to language skills. There is a current paucity of empirical research focusing specifically on different language skills. Hence, it is desirable to examine the effects of AR on different language skills of language learners.

Strategy instruction is essential in the literature of language learning/learner strategies. This paper employs a literature review to determine how much strategy instruction is addressed in language learning research in Saudi Arabia, how many instruments have been used and what kind of strategies are taught. A search was conducted on articles from 1950 to 2020 through the Saudi Digital Library. From an initial 297 records, 17 (5.7%) studies met the review criteria. This small number reflects the shortage of language learning strategy instruction in Saudi Arabia. The reviewed studies also targeted different variables in their strategy instructions, which shows that they were developed based on personal discretion. The most taught strategies are reading strategies and then vocabulary/spelling strategies. The least taught strategies, however, are social and motivational strategies. Only one of the studies utilized a standardized measure for one of its dependent variables after instruction. Thus, it was difficult to make comparisons across the studies. It is recommended that Saudi strategy researchers include strategy instruction in their investigation of language learning strategies and calculate the duration of their instruction in hours for clarity. They should also explain in detail what intervention is used, why and how they conducted the instruction. In addition, strategy instruction is a demanding task that requires a multi-method data collection approach.

Background: Despite calls for greater use of research and an appetite to do so within adult social care, a gap persists between research and practice. Aims and objectives: To explore views of adult social care staff about research and its application to everyday practice. To understand how these might impact upon research use capacity-building initiatives within adult social care organisations. Methods: Thematic analysis of semi-structured qualitative interviews with 25 staff members working within the adult social care departments of three English local authorities. Findings: Participants characterised research as feeling separate from practice. They reflected on their use of it in relation to pressures affecting adult social care and identified a lack of relevant research. Research benefiting service users, supporting individual practice or informing organisational decision-making was considered useful. However, research could also be viewed as a luxury where its findings were felt to represent an 'ideal' rather than real world of practice or did not accord with practice knowledge or local experience. Discussion and conclusions: While participants feel positively towards research, there remains a gap between these perceptions and its use in practice. There remains a need to improve research relevance and accessibility and to clarify its role in decision-making in social care, including where there is no evidence, where evidence challenges existing practice, or where the evidence base is growing. Collaborative partnerships between adult social care organisations, researchers and service users could help to narrow the research-practice gap and support the routine translation of research to practice.

Homeschooling has grown into a large and highly diverse segment of American education. However, empirical studies of homeschooling have remained methodologically underdeveloped. The purpose of this article is to chart an agenda for a new generation of research on homeschooling. A narrative review of quantitative research published since 2000 is undertaken to identify gaps in the current evidence base. This review indicated that prior work is generally limited by small samples, uniform operationalizing of homeschool practice, and cross-sectional data sources. This article then concludes by describing strategies that researchers can use to address the limitations of previous studies.

A previous study of creative writers' self-reports revealed important differences between research as it is carried out in the context of creative writing and the more scholarly types of research academic librarians often focus on. However, that study left many questions open. For this follow-up study, the author interviewed published creative writers about the role of research in their creative process. This study offers new insight into creative writers' attitudes toward the use of creative license. Though the sample was relatively small, the findings support the results of the original research.

Although critical participatory action research (CPAR) has been cited as a means to cultivate more equitable systems in education, its promise has not been fully realized as a mechanism to enhance the experiences of minoritized cultural groups in U.S. higher education. As outsiders within academia who are multiplicatively marginalized, Black women's engagement in CPAR demonstrates unique potential to address this gap. In this paper, I introduce an agentic diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategy embedded in a critical action research methodology known as a participatory action research counterspace (PARC). After situating the proposed methodology in existing literature, I describe a PARC study involving a group of Black women students, faculty, staff, and administrators at a predominantly white institution (PWI), as well as the defining contours of the methodology. A discussion outlining the benefits of the PARC methodology for Black women enrolled and employed in higher education is also included.

Energy literacy is a developing field of research and practice that provides a comprehensive way of understanding how energy functions in the universe, on the earth, and in our social and personal lives. This literature review, building on an increasing momentum of research across various disciplines, outlines current energy literacy scholarship focused on a range of educational contexts (i.e., K-12, higher and post-secondary, teacher education and professional programs, and informal education). This review aims to show how energy literacy serves as a multifaceted way of developing knowledge and experiences about energy, which is an integral part of environmental and sustainability education, and that links to educational research and scholarship that supports energy transition in society more broadly.

This article contributes to the growing debates about the criticality of global education (GE). Our study responds to the critical post/decolonial debates that point out that GE remains complicit in the perpetuation of social inequalities in the world. Contrary to the macro discursive character of those studies that show that GE is complicit in the reproduction of hierarchisation and depoliticisation, our aim is to map the concrete micro discursive processes in order to find out how exactly are these processes enacted on the level of language, an academic avenue that has remained underresearched so far. By applying Critical Discourse Analysis to the Slovak textbooks on GE, our study shows how particular socio-semantic uses of language reinforce hierarchisation of social actors and depoliticisation of structural complexities and complicities. We also attempt to set our study into a broader context of debates on the self-positioning of post-socialist Central and Eastern European states. We argue that in the context of Slovakia, GE discourse re-confirms the colonial matrix of power-knowledge-being. As we point out, GE becomes a tool through which Slovakia is able to get rid of the label of the Other and position itself as the superior (Western) Europe.

Objective: To evaluate the association between health behaviors with academic performance among tertiary education students. Methods: Six databases were searched until July 2020 for prospective cohort studies evaluating the association between health behavior(s) (dietary intake, physical activity, sedentary behavior, alcohol intake, sleep, smoking or illicit drug use) and academic performance. Results: Thirty-four studies were included (18 assessed sleep, 16 alcohol intake, 12 illicit drug use, 10 physical activity, 8 diet, 4 smoking, 2 sedentary behavior). A consistent negative association with academic performance was demonstrated for sleep (12/18 studies), alcohol intake (13/16) and illicit drug use (9/12). Most (7/10) studies found no association between physical activity and academic performance. Conclusion: Findings suggest interventions to mitigate the influence of poor sleep, high alcohol intake, and illicit drug use on academic performance may be needed. Further research of other health behaviors, along with their co-occurrence, with academic performance, is required.

Very little is known about the status of autism research in Central Asia. The purpose of this scoping review was to examine the scope and focus of the peer-reviewed research studies conducted with autistic people and their families in five Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The electronic databases of EBSCO Host and Web of Science were used for systematic search of literature. Eleven articles that met eligibility criteria were included in the review and analyzed for topics and research areas outlined in the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee Strategic Plan. Ten of these studies were conducted in Kazakhstan and one in Uzbekistan using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research designs. Five of the seven research areas - Diagnosis, Biology, Risk Factors, Services, and Treatment and Interventions - were represented in these studies, while there were no studies identified in the areas of Lifespan Issues or Infrastructure and Surveillance, highlighting a gap in research. None of the studies reported co-authorship of scientists from Central Asian countries. The review identified knowledge gaps and research needs to guide future research in autism in Central Asia to address the needs of autistic individuals and their families living in this region.
