Background: Stroke is a condition in which Spasticity in the body musculature greatly affect the functional independence of the patients. Hold- Relax and Static Stretching is one of the useful treatment to reduce Spasticity. Aim: To find out the effect of Hold – Relax V/S Static Stretching on Elbow flexors muscle Spasticity in Stroke Patient Materials and Methods: 20 subjects were randomly allocated into two groups (Group A and Group B). For 10 subjects in Group A Control group was given Static Stretching with conventional rehab and Group B Experimental group was given Hold- Relax with conventional rehab. Treatment were given to 3 weeks 3 sets per sessions. The outcome measure used to assess the Spasticity before and after the intervention was Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS). Following stroke, patients lose functions of the motor, sensory and higher cognitive skills to various degrees which diminish their ability to balance effectively and make necessary postural adjustments. Circuit training was being used to improve balance in patients. Circuit training is a form of body conditioning that involves endurance training, resistance training, high intensity aerobic exercise and exercises performed in a circuit. Berg Balance Scale was used as an outcome measure. Method: It is an experimental study done in 20 stroke patients selected with the help of purposive sampling method. Patients were selected on the basis of inclusion criteria and were divided into two groups. Group A received circuit training and Group B received conventional training. Training was given for 3 session per week for 4 weeks. Pre and Post BBS was taken. Result: The study suggested that circuit training is more effective than conventional training in stroke patients. Background: Pharmaceutical marketing activities are regarded as ethically challenging by most medical professionals. This study was planned to understand the extent of the interaction of pharmaceutical companies with healthcare providers & to determine the level of awareness about the ‘Medical Council of India (MCI) Code of Ethics’. Methods: A questionnaire based survey was conducted among 100 consultants and residents. The questionnaire mainly dealt with ethical issues about accepting free gifts, medicines and other sponsorships from pharmaceutical representatives, interactions and expectations from representatives of pharmaceutical companies by doctors and ascertaining among them the level of awareness about the MCI’s code of ethics. Results: 59.4% residents and 58.8% consultants do not consider small gifts (stationery/books/drug samples) as ethically problematic. 88% residents and 85% consultants felt that offers should be limited. 72% of consultants were aware of the revised MCI code of ethics as compared to 28% of residents. Conclusions: Most physicians do maintain a code of ethics with regards to accepting gifts and they felt that inexpensive gifts do not influence clinical judgment. Consultants were of the view that amended MCI code of ethics would not affect their clinical practice significantly.

Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and error control coding techniques over binary extension fields require efficient computation of finite field multiplication. Polynomial basis and normal basis are widely used in binary fields. Since inversion can be computed by performing repeated multiplication and squaring can be computed by performing only one cyclic shift operation using normal basis, it is considered as more efficient than polynomial basis. This research paper presents hardware implementation and performance comparison of various normal basis multiplication methods in terms of space and time complexities.

Insulin resistance and low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) are associated with pulmonary morbidity, including asthma, but the underlying mechanisms are not well elucidated.To investigate whether systemic inflammation underlies the association of metabolic abnormalities with pulmonary function among urban adolescents.Th-cell responses and monocyte subsets, and their association with serum homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and HDL, and pulmonary function were quantified in 168 adolescents, including 42 obese subjects with asthma, 42 normal-weight subjects with asthma, 40 obese subjects without asthma, and 44 healthy control subjects. Th-cell responses (Th1 [CD4(+)IFNγ(+)] and Th2 [CD4(+)IL4(+)] cells) to stimulation with phytohemagglutinin, leptin, and dust mite, and classical (CD14(+)CD16(-)), resident (CD14(+)CD16(+)), and patrolling (CD14dimCD16(+)) monocytes, and their C-C chemokine receptor type-2 (CCR2) expression were quantified by flow cytometry.Th1/Th2 ratio to all three stimuli was higher in obese subjects with asthma than normal-weight subjects with asthma and directly correlated with HOMA-IR. Classical monocytes inversely associated with Th1/Th2 ratio to phytohemagglutinin (r = -0.43; P = 0.01) and directly with Asthma Control Test score (β = 1.09; P = 0.04), while patrolling monocytes correlated with Composite Asthma Severity Index score (β = 1.11; P = 0.04) only among obese subjects with asthma. HDL was inversely associated with patrolling monocytes and directly associated with CCR2 expression on resident monocytes. CCR2 expression on patrolling monocytes predicted residual volume (RV), RV/TLC ratio, and FRC, after adjusting for HDL, but not after adjusting for body mass index. Association of Th1/Th2 ratio with RV, FRC, and inspiratory capacity was attenuated after adjusting for HOMA-IR.Th1 polarization and monocyte activation among obese subjects with asthma correlates with metabolic abnormalities. Association of monocyte activation with pulmonary function is mediated by body mass index, whereas that of Th1 polarization is mediated by insulin resistance.

Background and design:Viable tissue is essential to assess the rate and extent of biotransformation during percutaneous absorption in vitro. We assessed the viability of hairless mouse whole skin (WS) and stratum corneum/epidermis (SCE) and human neonatal SCE following separation from the dermis by EDTA phosphate-buffered saline (EDTA-PBS) incubation or by heat treatment by measuring the conversion of dextrose to lactate. Lactate concentrations in receptor fluid samples were determined using a Sigma diagnostic lactate determination kit. A standard curve was prepared and samples assayed spectrophotometrically at 340 nm using a lambda 2β spectrophotometer. Standard curves were prepared for each experiment and correlation coefficient values (r) were calculated.Results:Our results showed that heirless mouse SCE was associated with glucose conversion to lactic acid at an increased rate if incubated in EDTA-PBS for 4 h and used immediately. Lactate production was greater with the dermis present (EDTA-PBS WS). The rate of glucose to lactate conversion in hairless mouse SCE was 20–25% of that found in WS. Compared with Dulbecco’s modified PBS (DMPBS)-treated WS controls, the rate of lactate production in EDTA-PBS-treated WS was nearly a 50% less. Heat treatment in water at 60° C to separate SCE from hairless mouse WS appeared to eliminate viability. Viability of hairless mouse SCE, as measured by glucose conversion to lactate, was comparable to human neonatal SCE.Conclusions:These results suggest that the dermis is a significant contributor to glucose metabolism and that incubation in EDTA-PBS is a contributing factor to the overall decrease in metabolic capacity of the tissue. As a result of these findings, hairless mouse SCE appears to be useful as a model for human neonatal SCE in percutaneous absorption studies.
