Abstract

Nested conditions are used, among other things, as a graphical way to express first order formulas ruling the applicability of a graph transformation rule to a given match. In this paper, we propose (for the first time) a notion of structural morphism among nested conditions, consistent with the entailment of the corresponding formulas. This reveals a structural weakness of the existing definition of nested conditions, which we overcome by proposing a new notion of span-based nested conditions, embedding the original ones. We also introduce morphisms for the latter, showing that those form a richer structure by organising the various models in a number of categories suitably related by functors.

5. Coupling Symbolic Reasoning with Language Modeling for Efficient Longitudinal Understanding of Unstructured Electronic Medical Records

Abstract

The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare has been revolutionary, especially with the recent advancements in transformer-based Large Language Models (LLMs). However, the task of understanding unstructured electronic medical records remains a challenge given the nature of the records (e.g., disorganization, inconsistency, and redundancy) and the inability of LLMs to derive reasoning paradigms that allow for comprehensive understanding of medical variables. In this work, we examine the power of coupling symbolic reasoning with language modeling toward improved understanding of unstructured clinical texts. We show that such a combination improves the extraction of several medical variables from unstructured records. In addition, we show that the state-of-the-art commercially-free LLMs enjoy retrieval capabilities comparable to those provided by their commercial counterparts. Finally, we elaborate on the need for LLM steering through the application of symbolic reasoning as the exclusive use of LLMs results in the lowest performance.

6. Modeling a divertor with mid-leg pumping for high-power H-mode scenarios in DIII-D considering E × B drift flows

Abstract

Edge-plasma simulations of a baffled, long-legged divertor in DIII-D, performed using the multi-fluid code UEDGE, indicate that the position of the detachment front is constrained to the location of the pump duct along the low-field side (LFS) baffle. Simulations including magnetic and E×B drifts were performed for 12.5 MW deuterium plasmas including intrinsic carbon and seeded neon to assess the optimal location of the LFS divertor pump to create a stable detachment front between the target and the X-point. The radiation front position in the simulations, taken to be indicative of the detachment front, can be controlled between the pump and X-point in the favorable magnetic field direction for H-mode access by moving the pump duct location upstream of the target along the LFS baffle. In the unfavorable magnetic field direction, the radial Eθ×B drift flows are directed towards the pumping surface, efficiently removing the injected deuterium gas and limiting the sensitivity of the radiation front location to the gas injection rate. The role of pumping rate and drift direction on the pumping efficiency are also found to affect the divertor plasma conditions and detachment front location in UEDGE simulations.

9. Vallen: Incidentie en risicofactoren bij patiënten met een beroerte

Abstract

Valincidenten komen veel voor bij patiënten na een beroerte. Deze literatuurstudie geeft een overzicht van de incidentie en de risicofactoren. Naast algemene valpreventie is het belangrijk rekening te houden met de specifieke problemen die gerelateerd zijn aan een hoger valrisico na een beroerte, zoals een depressie en cognitie stoornissen. Uit de geïncludeerde studies komt een aantal risicofactoren naar voren, zoals het zich verplaatsen van bed naar stoel, lopen naar badkamer en toilet, en de eerste dagen na het ontslag naar huis. Een keer gevallen zijn tijdens de ziekenhuisopname is een significante risicofactor voor latere valincidenten. Een meetinstrument om het risiconiveau betrouwbaar in te schatten is er (nog) niet. Scores op een aantal meetinstrumenten zoals de Barthel Index en de Timed-Up-and-Go test kunnen gebruikt worden als indicatoren voor een verhoogd risico. Na een val kan angst om te vallen ontstaan, waardoor het activiteitenniveau van patiënten vermindert. Het wordt aanbevolen om voor het ontslag naar huis patiënten een test af te nemen naar het vertrouwen in de balanshandhaving bij verschillende activiteiten. In de weinige studies waarin valincidenten een uitkomstmaat zijn, blijkt intensieve oefentherapie gericht op balansverbetering het aantal valincidenten te verminderen.

Abstract

The paper develops an abstract (over-approximating) semantics for double-pushout rewriting of graphs and graph-like objects. The focus is on the so-called materialization of left-hand sides from abstract graphs, a central concept in previous work. The first contribution is an accessible, general explanation of how materializations arise from universal properties and categorical constructions, in particular partial map classifiers, in a topos. Second, we introduce an extension by enriching objects with annotations and give a precise characterization of strongest post-conditions, which are effectively computable under certain assumptions.

17. A Model-Derivation Framework for Software Analysis

Abstract

Model-based verification allows to express behavioral correctness conditions like the validity of execution states, boundaries of variables or timing at a high level of abstraction and affirm that they are satisfied by a software system. However, this requires expressive models which are difficult and cumbersome to create and maintain by hand. This paper presents a framework that automatically derives behavioral models from real-sized Java programs. Our framework builds on the EMF/ECore technology and provides a tool that creates an initial model from Java bytecode, as well as a series of transformations that simplify the model and eventually output a timed-automata model that can be processed by a model checker such as UPPAAL. The framework has the following properties: (1) consistency of models with software, (2) extensibility of the model derivation process, (3) scalability and (4) expressiveness of models. Abstract

The DIII-D tokamak has elucidated crucial physics and developed projectable solutions for ITER and fusion power plants in the key areas of core performance, boundary heat and particle transport, and integrated scenario operation, with closing the core-edge integration knowledge gap being the overarching mission. New experimental validation of high-fidelity, multi-channel, non-linear gyrokinetic turbulent transport models for ITER provides strong confidence it will achieve Q ⩾ 10 operation. Experiments identify options for easing H-mode access in hydrogen, and give new insight into the isotopic dependence of transport and confinement. Analysis of 2,1 islands in unoptimized low-torque IBS demonstration discharges suggests their onset time occurs randomly in the constant β phase, most often triggered by non-linear 3-wave coupling, thus identifying an NTM seeding mechanism to avoid. Pure deuterium SPI for disruption mitigation is shown to provide favorable slow cooling, but poor core assimilation, suggesting paths for improved SPI on ITER. At the boundary, measured neutral density and ionization source fluxes are strongly poloidally asymmetric, implying a 2D treatment is needed to model pedestal fuelling. Detailed measurements of pedestal and SOL quantities and impurity charge state radiation in detached divertors has validated edge fluid modelling and new self-consistent ‘pedestal-to-divertor’ integrated modeling that can be used to optimize reactors. New feedback adaptive ELM control minimizes confinement reduction, and RMP ELM suppression with sustained high core performance was obtained for the first time with the outer strike point in a W-coated, compact and unpumped small-angle slot divertor. Advances have been made in integrated operational scenarios for ITER and power plants. Wide pedestal intrinsically ELM-free QH-modes are produced with more reactor-relevant conditions, Low torque IBS with W-equivalent radiators can exhibit predator-prey oscillations in T _e and radiation which need control. High- β _P scenarios with q _min > 2, q _95 –7.9, β _N > 4, β _T –3.3% and H _98y2 > 1.5 are sustained with high density ( $\bar n$ = 7E19 m ^−3 , f _G –1) for 6 τ _E , improving confidence in steady-state tokamak reactors. Diverted NT plasmas achieve high core performance with a non-ELMing edge, offering a possible highly attractive core-edge integration solution for reactors.

23. Strong field ionization and gauge dependence of nonlocal potentials

Abstract

Nonlocal potential models have been used in place of the Coulomb potential in the Schrodinger equation as an efficient means of exploring high field laser-atom interaction in previous works. Al- though these models have found use in modeling phenomena including photo-ionization and ejected electron momentum spectra, they are known to break electromagnetic gauge invariance. This paper examines if there is a preferred gauge for the linear field response and photoionization characteristics of nonlocal atomic binding potentials in the length and velocity gauges. Abstract

This volume contains the proceedings of the (first) Graphs as Models (GaM) 2015 workshop, held on 10-11 April 2015 in London, U.K., as a satellite workshop of ETAPS 2015, the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. This new workshop combines the strengths of two pre-existing workshop series: GT-VMT (Graph Transformation and Visual Modelling Techniques) and GRAPHITE (Graph Inspection and Traversal Engineering). Graphs are used as models in all areas of computer science: examples are state space graphs, control flow graphs, syntax graphs, UML-type models of all kinds, network layouts, social networks, dependency graphs, and so forth. Used to model a particular phenomenon or process, graphs are then typically analysed to find out properties of the modelled subject, or transformed to construct other types of models. The workshop aimed at attracting and stimulating research on the techniques for graph analysis, inspection and transformation, on a general level rather than in any specific domain. In total, we received 15 submissions covering several different areas. Of these 15 submissions, nine were eventually accepted and appear in this volume.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, education systems must prepare students with the skills and knowledge to be able to thrive in a global economy and society. Toward this end, teachers play a key role in supporting students to develop as global citizens who bridge cultural divides, understand sustainable development issues, and act as changemakers in their communities. iEARN-USA connects an international community of K-12 educators and youth to collaborate and learn together on projects designed to make a difference in the world. Through iEARN programming, students can acquire important 21st-century skills and global competencies, allowing them to communicate ideas, recognize other perspectives, and take action while connecting their learning to real-world issues. Abstract

The Paxos distributed consensus algorithm is a challenging case-study for standard, vector-based model checking techniques. Due to asynchronous communication, exhaustive analysis may generate very large state spaces already for small model instances. In this paper, we show the advantages of graph transformation as an alternative modelling technique. We model Paxos in a rich declarative transformation language, featuring (among other things) nested quantifiers, and we validate our model using the GROOVE model checker, a graph-based tool that exploits isomorphism as a natural way to prune the state space via symmetry reductions. We show that the visual rule formalism enables the required restructuring to be formulated in a very concise manner. Abstract

A nonlocal quantum model is presented for calculating the atomic dielectric response to a strong laser electric field. By replacing the Coulomb potential with a nonlocal potential in the Schrodinger equation, a 3+1D calculation of the time-dependent electric dipole moment can be replaced with a 0+1D integral equation, offering significant computational savings. The model is benchmarked against an established ionization model and \textit{ab initio} simulation of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation. The reduced computational overhead makes the model a promising candidate to incorporate full quantum mechanical time dynamics in laser pulse propagation simulations., Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures

In this paper we present the extension of an existing method for abstract graph-based state space exploration, called neighbourhood abstraction, with a reduction technique based on subsumption. Basically, one abstract state subsumes another when it covers more concrete states; in such a case, the subsumed state need not be included in the state space, thus giving a reduction.
