A two-week management educational program assessed the management style of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in light of criticisms aimed at NASA management following the Challenger space shuttle disaster. The criticisms contended that NASA managers value consensus too highly and overlook safety considerations in order to adhere to program schedules and objectives. The educational program, which assessed 537 NASA managers at middle to upper management levels, tested the managers as to their learning styles, personal attributes, motivational profiles, and interpersonal response orientations. Tables and text describe the typical NASA manager. The profile indicates NASA managers are an 'inbred and homogeneous' group that tends to think collectively, makes decision in a 'masculine' style, exhibits unsatisfied upper-level ego needs, and values control over subordinates.

Review of 29 state and the three federal laws governing computer crime indicates that legislation has not kept up with technology, perhaps because the concept of computer crime is difficult to define. In a survey, 72 managers in computer fields and 84 undergraduate business students were asked to identify ethical, unethical and criminal behavior in eight scenarios involving the use of company computers. The objective of this research was to compare the results of a recent study of the effects of VDT use on worker well-being with two other broad-based studies done previously in different areas of the United States. The populations sampled represent the millions of clerical and administrative workers whose jobs are being automated. The 140 clerical and administrative workers in the current study represent a sample of U.S. Navy civilian employees in the Washington, DC area. Our results found that: (1) there are a variety of health complaints associated with increased hours of VDT use; (2) more VDT users experience job boredom than non-users; (3) frequent users experience more work pressure and more control by management than occasional users. The authors confirm that VDT operators, especially those who use VDTs more than four hours a day, experience more stress than non-users.

This article discusses the use of web-based software to aid and assist instruction. Several web-based systems are recommended to help improve student learning and enrich the teaching experience as well. Information is provided on software that allows randomizing problems, algorithmic variation of number within problems and automated grading. The growing interest of students in web-based systems is also explained.

The article focuses on the need for U.S. southern states to increase its output of marketers with doctor of philosophies (PhD) to meet the projected rise in demand from 1977 to 1981. A reason for increasing doctoral production in the South is that the region is still both socially and economically underdeveloped. More than 60 percent of marketing doctorates hired in the south received degrees from southern universities. The demand-to-supply ratio for all academic fields is 1.53.
