Abstract Schwannomas are benign neurogenic encapsulated peripheral nerve tumors of Schwann cells that rarely occur in the retroperitoneum. We present a case of a 22-year-old man who presented with right flank pain and was initially diagnosed as hydatid cyst based on the imaging and borderline results of anti-echinococcus (IgG). Albendazole was prescribed and taken for 4 months with no response and later underwent surgical excision of the mass. The diagnosis and morphology confirmed the nature of the schwannoma. Complete surgical excision remains the gold standard for the management of these tumors. The infectious parasitic illness echinococcosis, also known as hydatidosis, mostly arises from the larval forms of the tapeworm species Echinococcus granulosus. The prevalence of renal involvement in total hydatid disease is documented to be approximately 2-3%, a notably lower rate in comparison to the involvement observed in the liver and lungs. As a result of the lack of observable symptoms, the cyst remains asymptomatic and exhibits a slow progression over a period of time. The computed tomography (CT) scan is often regarded as a highly accurate diagnostic procedure owing to its capacity to precisely ascertain the size and location of the lesion, as well as its correlation and influence on surrounding tissue. The most effective therapeutic strategy entails implementing surgical procedures to extract a hydatid cyst involving the renal system.

Hydatid cyst is a zoonotic disease caused by CestodaEchinococcus, especially Echinococcus granulosus. Isolated renal hydatidosis is an extremely rare clinical condition associated with nonspecific symptoms and physical findings. Diagnosis can be difficult and depends on imaging findings and histologic examination of excised tissue specimens.Here, we report a case of an isolated right renal hydatid cyst in a 10-year-old girl who presented with progressively worsening right flank pain. Diagnosis was established using multimodal imaging after which she underwent a successful cystectomy, had a smooth post-operative course, and was discharged with improvement and a continuation of albendazole.

Abstract Hydatid cyst (HC) is a zoonotic parasitic disease in agricultural and pastoral areas while renal involvement without liver and lung hydatid is both less common in clinical practice and rarely described in literature. We present a case of a 40‐year‐old male from Xinjiang who complained of flank pain in the right with oliguria. Robot‐assisted laparoscopic exploration, conversion to open laparotomy and excision of internal capsule in right kidney were performed. Finally, a typical renal HC was diagnosed after complementary examinations. Isolated renal HC is very rare and can be misinterpreted as a cystic renal cell carcinoma pre‐operatively.

The purpose of this study is to identify preoperative predictive factors of urinary fistula in renal hydatid cyst and to develop a scoring system for this disorder. We retrospectively analyzed all patients operated for renal hydatid cysts between January 2000 and December 2020. We divided our patients into two groups according to whether or not the renal hydatid cysts opened in the urinary tract. Predictive factors of the presence of a urinary fistula have been studied to obtain a simple score to predict the presence of a urinary fistula. Differences were considered significant if p < 0.05. Urinary fistula was detected in 33 of 96 patients. Univariate analyses showed significant differences in patient age, cyst size, location, hydaturia, eosinophil count, and platelet count between patients with and without urinary fistula. In multivariate analyses, hydaturia (p < 0.005), eosinophil count >500/mm3, (p = 0.01), cyst diameter >5 cm (p = 0.02), and upper or lower renal pole location (p = 0.003) were significant and independent predictors of urinary fistula. A score was developed to predict the opening of the cyst in the urinary tract. The total score varies between 0 and 15. The resulting area under the receiver operator characteristic curve was 0.798 (95% CI, 0.726–0.866; p = 0.023). At a cutoff point ≥8, the specificity achieved was 100%. Preoperative detection and management of urinary fistula are important issues in the treatment of renal hydatid cyst. Developing a scoring system based on routinely measured laboratory and radiologic factors will help the clinician to manage patients with renal hydatid cysts. Hydatid disease is frequent in endemic regions especially in sheep farming areas. Kidneys are uncommonly affected (2%–4%). We report a case of right renal colic with hydatiduria revealing a primary renal hydatid cyst ruptured in the mid calyx proved by computed tomography scan and laboratory testing. A kidney sparing surgery was performed by excision of the protruding dome and suturing of the fistula without any postoperative complication. This case emphasizes on further studies to define a standard treatment modality for renal hydatidoses.

Renal hydatid cyst, an uncommon manifestation of Echinococcus granulosus infection, presents a diagnostic challenge due to its asymptomatic nature. Here, we report the case of a 34-year-old male who presented with intermittent left flank pain, abdominal fullness, and passage of whitish clots in urine. Physical examination revealed a palpable 15 cm × 11 cm hard mass extending from the left hypochondrium to the left lumbar region. Ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced computed tomography identified a 15 cm Bosniak type 3 complex cystic lesion arising from the left kidney, causing hydronephrosis and hydroureter. The patient underwent a left nephrectomy, and a histopathological examination confirmed a renal hydatid cyst. This case highlights the diagnostic difficulty in differentiating renal hydatid cysts from other renal lesions. Despite suggestive radiological findings, conclusive diagnosis remains elusive, particularly in solitary complex renal cysts. Cystic hydatid disease usually affects the liver (50–70%) and less frequently the lungs (15%) and other organs (10%). Isolated renal hydatid cyst is an uncommon condition (1%). Laparoscopic surgery is the mainstay of operative treatment. A 17-year-old youth presented with a large exophytic cyst arising from the lower pole of the left kidney (BOSNIAK-1). The cyst was excised laparoscopically. Histopathology showed it to be a hydatid cyst. Two years later, he presented with an umbilical port site swelling for 6 months, painful for 2 days, and was operated as suspected port site strangulated incisional hernia. At surgery, there was a port site cyst which was removed intact, and the hernia was repaired. Histopathology showed features suggestive of a hydatid cyst. Isolated renal hydatid is an uncommon condition (< 1%). Laparoscopic surgery is safe and feasible in the majority of cases. Port site hydatid cyst recurrence is an extremely rare complication after laparoscopic hydatid surgery. Only one other such case has been reported in literature till now. It occurs due to the lodgment of scolices at the port site during laparoscopy. It can also mimic as strangulated umbilical hernia, and thus, the preoperative diagnosis is challenging. Rationale: Cystic echinococcosis (hydatid disease) is a parasitic infection of humans, but renal hydatid cyst is rare. It is even more uncommon to find hydatid cyst and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) synchronously in one kidney. Patient concerns: This report presents a 47 years old Iranian man with the chief complaint of lower abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasound and computed tomographic scan was performed for more evaluation. Diagnosis: RCC was the most probable diagnosis, so he went under left total nephrectomy. Eventually, after histopathologic examination of the excised kidney, cystic echinococcosis came to the first line and papillary RCC was the second diagnosis. Outcomes and lessons: Diagnosis of hydatid cyst and RCC is mostly based on imaging, but, as we noticed in this case, distinguishing between these two may sometimes be difficult due to radiological similarities.

Cystic hydatid disease is a parasitic disease caused by the larvae of the small tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus . It is still a serious public health problem in endemic regions such as the Mediterranean basin, especially in the Balkans. Background & aim: Hydatid disease of urinary tract is limited to renal involvement by echinococcus granolosus. Involvement of other parts of the urinary tract has been limited. However, the other types of echinococcuses are rare. The aim of this study was to report experiences with renal hydatid cyst, and a brief review of articles. Methods: In the present study, 16 patients aged 9 to 61 were operated in Yasuj, Iran, from September 2001 to September 2005. Diagnostic methods included ultrasound, CT scan, MRI and serologic tests. Fourteen patients were diagnosed by open surgery with peristaltic neoplasia through peristaltic peristalsis and 2 patients diagnosed with renal tumor, but their pathology was diagnosed. In addition, in this study review was carried out of the published English-language studies in Pabmind and Scopus. Results: The mean age of the patients 39 years (9 to 61 years), the ratio of women to men, serologic tests were negative in both cases, which were negative for nephrectomy, ultrasound, CT scan and MRI had no specific differentiation for renal hydatid cyst. Conclusions: Renal hydatid cyst is still one of the health problems that should be considered. Due to advances in imaging techniques, rapid diagnosis of kidney hydatid cyst is possible, but renal hydatid cyst should be rejected in any cystic mass in the kidney, especially in endemic areas before surgery.

Hydatid disease, is a parasitic disease caused by the larval stage of the cestode Echinococcus granulosus. The Liver and lungs are the commonly affected organs but rarely kidney can be affected. Patient with primary renal hydatid may present with nonspecific symptoms or may be diagnosed incidentally. Imaging and serology are useful for diagnosis. The best therapy is surgery. This case is reported to discuss a 35-year-old female presented with complaints of left side flank pain and swelling. The abdominal US and CECT show renal cyst, which was nonspecific. She underwent an open surgical exploration and cystectomy plus partial pericystectomy done. Post-operative serology test show Echinococcus IgG positive. Postoperatively, the patient had an uneventful recovery and discharged with Albendazole therapy for 8 weeks. Renal hydatid cyst is rare, accounting for less than 2 to 3 % of all hydatid disease. Renal hydatid cysts can remain asymptomatic for many years and then can be discovered incidentally. The diagnosis and staging of renal hydatid cysts rely heavily on imaging and serology. Hydatid disease is primarily treated surgically. A high index of suspicion should be maintained, especially in endemic areas, to ensure timely and accurate diagnosis of renal hydatid cyst. Surgical excision remains the treatment of choice, with appropriate preoperative and postoperative anthelminthic therapy. Renal hydatid cyst is a rare disease comprising of about 2–3% of all locations. We present a case of renal hydatid disease in a 48-year-old female patient who presented with a history of left flank pain without fever or hematuria. Ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a 3-cm cystic lesion Bosniak IV occupying the mid-zone of the left kidney diagnosed as renal malignancy. Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy was performed, but the histopathological examination of the lesion revealed hydatid cysts. Echinococcosis is a parasitic infestation caused by Echinococcus granulosus and is an endemic disease in many parts of world. The symptoms and signs depend on the location and size of the cyst. Renal cystic echinococcosis or hydatid cyst (HC) disease of the kidney is extremely rare and constitutes only 2-4% of all cases of hydatid disease (HD). We present a 39-year-old male patient who was referred to our outpatient clinic with cystic right kidney mass that was incidentally diagnosed during hepatobiliary ultrasound for chronic hepatitis B evaluation. Routine blood tests were normal without eosinophilia. Indirect haemagglutination test was negative. Abdominal kidneys, ureters, and bladder X-ray showed an 83×95 mm sized curvilinear calcification in the right upper abdominal quadrant. Abdominal computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a 10x9x10 cm sized cystic mass arising from the middle pole of the right kidney, destructing the whole upper pole and extending into the liver. Daughter vesicles were present in the cystic lesion suggesting renal HD. Right retroperitoneal exploration with flank approach and right radical nephrectomy was performed without any complications. Pathology confirmed HC lesion. Following surgery, albendazole 400 mg per os twice daily for 4 weeks was suggested.

Objective: The aim of this work is the presentation of a case of isolated renal hydatid cyst with novel findings and an unusual surgical scenario.Clinical Presentation and Intervention: A 54-year-old female patient presented with left loin pain and a palpable left renal mass. Imaging described a well-demarcated left renal cystic lesion with a double-layer wall. Radical nephrectomy was performed due to the possibility of malignancy. On retrograde revision, the double-layer wall represented the detached germinative membrane of a hydatid cyst that was confirmed by histopathology.Conclusion: Isolated renal hydatid cyst could be misinterpreted as a renal tumor. We are hereby presenting a case of a gentleman in his fourth decade with a giant right renal hydatid cyst. The clinical manifestations, radiological features, and serology were all not suggestive of hydatid disease; however, typical Echinococcus scolices were detected histologically following cyst aspiration. The giant cyst was successfully treated laparoscopically.

Hydatid disease is a cyclozoonotic parasitic infestation caused by the larval stage of the cestode parasites of Echinococcus spp. (Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus vogeli, and Echinococcus multilocularis). Isolated renal involvement is extremely rare. A 50-year-old male patient presented with acute left loin pain. Ultrasound revealed left mild hydroureteronephrosis with lower pole mass lesion. Computed tomography (CT) scan abdomen and thorax revealed the isolated renal hydatid disease with upper ureteric calculus. On blood examination, he was found to have HIV infection with immunosuppresion. He underwent left partial nephrectomy with pyelolithotomy. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of renal hydatid. Immunosuppression may be the cause of unusual site of hydatid cyst and partial nephrectomy is the treatment of choice in isolated renal hydatid cyst with renal calculus in HIV-infected patients.

Hydatid disease is a parasitic infestation by larval form of Echinococcus granulosus. Isolated renal involvement is extremely rare. There are no specific signs and symptoms of renal hydatidosis. However it may present as palpable mass, flank pain, hematuria, malaise, fever, and hydatiduria or as a complication of it such as infection, abscess, hemorrhage, necrosis and pelviureteric junction obstruction, renal failure etc. Except hydatiduria, none are pathognomonic for renal hydatidosis. There is no literature on renal hydatidosis presenting as renal mass we report 2 cases of isolated renal hydatidosis, which mimicked a renal mass on imaging study.

In 2012 a 34-year-old female referred to Razi Hospital, Rasht, Iran with complaints of right flank pain and grape-like material in urine. Diagnosis was made by ultrasonography and CT scan. The patient was treated surgically with nephrectomy in combination with perioperative chemotherapy with albendazol.

Hydatid involvement of the kidney accounts for only 2-4% of all cases of hydatid disease it is very rare and again primary involvement of the kidney without involvement of liver parenchyma or lung parenchyma that makes it extremely rare. The purpose of this article is to review the imaging features of hydatid disease of the kidney and thus show the role of radiography, excretory urography, sonography, CT, and MRI in the diagnosis of Hydatidosis. Hydatiduria accompanies only 10 to 20 % of all cases of renal Hydatidosis and usually microscopic, here we are reporting a 65 years old female with abdominal lump in right hypochondriac region with pain on USG finding suggestive of hydatid cyst of liver with indentation and possible involving right kidney but MDCT suggest it is a primary right renal hydatid large exophytic cyst having multiple daughter cysts involving upper pole of kidney with breech in the cortex and it extends to involve right renal pelvis which indenting to inferior surface of liver. Abstract: The traditional method of treating hydatid disease by open surgery has, in recent years, been challenged and minimally invasive approaches, including percutaneous and laparoscopic management, have been gaining wide acceptance. We present a 13-year-old boy with the diagnosis of isolated right renal hydatid disease, and a total pericystectomy was performed laparoscopically. Total operative time was 4.5h and estimated blood loss was 150ml. The only complication was an early urinary leak which was successfully treated with internal stenting. Abstract: Parasites are rarely localized only in the urinary system. Schistosoma haematobium infection is very frequent in tropical Africa; it is revealed by a hematuria. Most hydatic cysts are localized in the liver, but a renal infection is possible.
