Star anise has been used for a long time in improving human health and curing diseases, owing to its unlimited components with complex chemical structures and a wide range of bioactivities. This study is aimed to investigate the influence of extraction methods (steam distillation, ethanol Soxhlet extraction, supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, subcritical n‐butane extraction) on the yield, aroma properties, chemical composition, and bioactivity of star anise essential oils. Electronic nose detection revealed the essential oils from subcritical extraction exhibited the most intense aroma, while the essential oils from ethanol Soxhlet extraction had a more complex aroma profile. Fourier‐transform infrared analysis showed the presence of benzene rings, carbonyl groups, C=C, and aromatic ether bonds in the essential oils extracted through different methods. The major components were heterocyclic olefins, heterocyclic oxygenates, and aromatic oxygenates, as well as certain amounts of flavonoids and polyphenols. Correlation analysis revealed the relative contents of volatile trans‐anethole, wormwood, d‐limonene, cineole, and trans‐α‐citronelene were strongly associated with the antibacterial activity of the essential oils. Similarly, the contents of volatile components (d‐limonene, cineole) and non‐volatile components (total flavonoids and total polyphenols) were strongly correlated with the DPPH scavenging activity of the essential oils. These results confirm the effectiveness of the ethanol Soxhlet extraction method in retaining the bioactivity of the essential oils. Finally, with a Box–Behnken central composite design of response surface and single‐factor experiments, the optimal extraction conditions for the ethanol Soxhlet method were determined: ultrasonic frequency of 80 kHz, crushing particle size of 60 meshes, liquid–material ratio of 8:1 (mL:g), and ultrasonic time of 35 min. Under these conditions, the essential oil yield was 25.51% ± 0.21%. Overall, these findings highlight the significance of extraction methods in obtaining high‐quality star anise essential oils with desirable aroma properties and potent bioactivities. Intake of 17β-estradiol (E2), bisphenol A (BPA), and diethylstilbestrol (DES) from food can contribute to endocrine disorders. Therefore, developing a sensitive method for the simultaneous detection of E2, BPA, and DES and understanding their combined effects on endocrine disruption are crucial. We developed a fluorescence aptasensing platform utilizing DNase I–assisted cyclic enzymatic signal amplification in conjunction with an aptamer/graphene oxide complex. Using PEG 20000 as a surface-blocking agent, the aptasensor achieved ultralow detection limits of 2.643, 0.3039, and 0.6996 for E2, BPA, and DES, respectively. The sensor demonstrated accurate detection in plastic bottled water at spiked levels of 10 and 100 ng/mL. Systems toxicology revealed 30 potential targets for mixture-induced endocrine disruption. Molecular docking showed binding affinities of E2, BPA, and DES for ESR1 of −9.94, −8.29, and − 8.98 kcal/mol, respectively. These results highlight the effectiveness of the aptasensor and provide valuable insights into endocrine disruption mechanisms. Fracture healing is a complex process during which the bone restores its structural and mechanical integrity. Collagen networks and minerals are the fundamental components to rebuild the bone matrix in callus. It has been recognized that bone quality could be impaired during aging. However, how the structural and mechanical recovery of fracture healing is influenced by aging, particularly from the perspective of organization and mineralization of the collagen network in callus, remains unclear. A tibial fracture model was established for both the young (5 weeks) and aged mice (68 weeks). On the 21st day postfracture, the characteristics of the collagen network, mineralization, and the nanoscale mechanical properties of the callus were assessed. The results indicated that aging postpones the fracture healing process, leading to incomplete microstructure, less mineral content and mineralization, and weaker mechanical properties of callus. In the aged mice, the internal fixation and mechanical immobilization promoted the mineralization of callus by increasing mineral crystal length and mineral-to-matrix ratio by 48 and 42% compared to the internal fixation and free movement control group, respectively. By contrast, in the young mice, the internal fixation and mechanical immobilization induced disordered collagen fibrils and decreased the crystal length and mineral-to-matrix ratio by 32 and 36%, compared to the internal fixation and free movement control group, respectively. The present findings suggested that the aging-induced structure and mechanical differences of callus during fracture healing initiate from the organization and mineralization of collagen fibrils. Multiscale structural and mechanical analysis suggested mechanical immobilization is beneficial to the structure, composition, and mechanics of callus in the aged mice while impairing the organization and mineralization of collagen fibril in the callus of the young mice. These findings suggested that different mechanical intervention strategies should be adopted for fracture healing at different ages, which provides valuable insights for the clinical treatment of bone fracture.

Objective: This study investigated stroke patients and their primary caregivers, examining the impact of stroke events on caregivers and families, identifying factors affecting burden levels, and proposing measures to improve caregivers' quality of life and reduce family burden., Methods: This study adopted a questionnaire method, which includes a general information questionnaire, a patient self-care ability evaluation scale (Barthel index), a caregiver needs evaluation scale, and a social support evaluation scale (SSRS)., Results: A total of 163 primary caregivers, mostly spouses or children of the patients, participated with an average age of 55.99 ± 11.92 years. A significant portion (36.81%) provided care alone for an average of 6.06 years. Social support received by caregivers was generally low, with only 1.84% reporting high support. 90.13% of caregivers experienced varying levels of burden, with 61.35% experiencing mild burden, 25.15% moderate burden, and 3.68% severe burden., Conclusion: The study concluded that China's nursing system for stroke patients is inadequate, relying heavily on family members for rehabilitation.
