The modification of polymethylmethacrylate will confer antimicrobial resistance to the material and the method of modification, incorporation or coating, can influence the antimicrobial action. The objective of this study is to answer the question "Antimicrobial incorporated or coating polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), which promotes better antimicrobial action?"

This systematic review aims to answer the question: " Are CAD/CAM total denture bases more susceptible to color change compared to heat-cured polymethylmethacrylate when subjected to immersion in different beverages and cleaners?". PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews will be followed and publication details such as authors and year; type of study; liquids and cleaners used; hardness and roughness; color change; method; result; and conclusion will be included. The synthesis of the results will be focused on the evaluation of the color change after immersion of denture bases in liquids and cleaners.

Beta titanium (β-Ti) alloys have shown promising outcomes in recent years, but whether they have intrinsic antimicrobial activity is unclear. So the objective was to assess the existing literature and answer “Do surface treatments applied to beta titanium alloys for implants present statistically significant results for antimicrobial activity when compared to the control group?”.

As a guideline for bone tissue regeneration, scaffolds mimic the extracellular bone matrix and environmental conditions of natural bone. Methods of manufacturing scaffolds, such as polyurethane foam modeling, melt molding and freeze drying, have limitations in controlling pore size and interconnection. Additive manufacturing is carried out quickly and accurately layer by layer using unit cells that are periodically repeated along all directions of the structure, with geometric flexibility that allows the construction of formats compatible with the lesion, reproducibility and better pore control . Surface coatings are explored to enhance the electrochemical performance, osteoconduction and biocompatibility of printed porous metallic scaffolfs and to further control the risk of bone resorption. Thus, we sought to answer the question: “In large bone defects, how effective are titanium scaffolds printed with surface treatment for osteoconduction?”.

Several surface treatments are developed to improve the properties and increase the success rate of titanium implants, among these treatments can be performed coatings with materials such as calcium phosphates and hydroxyapatite. However, the adhesion strength of the coating to the implant is essential, and it is important to investigate ways to improve this adhesion. There are reports that this adhesion may be influenced by roughness, however this is not yet clear, and there are studies that do not observe this influence. Thus, this systematic review aims to evaluate the adhesion of hydroxyapatite coatings on titanium implant surfaces and its alloys, seeking an answer to the following question "What is the influence of surface roughness on the adhesion of hydroxyapatite coatings?".

Objective: This study aimed to systematically review the literature about sealants modified with materials to promote antimicrobial activity and answer the question “What is the effect of incorporating materials that promote antimicrobial activity to pit and fissure sealants?” Materials and methods: Data were collected from questions about the material incorporated, its concentration, purpose of incorporation, analyses, and conclusions obtained. The Cochrane Library, LILLACS, ScienceDirect, and PubMed databases were searched with the terms “SEALANT”, “ANTIMICROBIAL”, and “ANTIBACTERIAL”. The selection of studies was performed in two stages. Inclusion criteria were applied via the evaluation of titles and abstracts, and exclusion criteria, via the complete reading of the studies. The adapted Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tool was used to analyze bias risk. Results: Due to the heterogeneity of the data found, it was impossible to perform a meta-analysis. We obtained 1389 references, including 11 of them in this review. Analysis of the studies found that modified sealants may show antimicrobial activity and alter their other properties. After applying the JBI tool, all studies showed low bias risk. Conclusion: Modified pit and fissure sealants show antimicrobial activity and altered physicochemical and mechanical properties. Objetivo: Este estudo é uma revisão sistemática da literatura sobre selantes modificados com materiais para promover atividade antimicrobiana para responder à questão “Qual é o efeito da incorporação de materiais que promovem atividade antimicrobiana em selantes sobre fossas e fissuras?” Materiais e métodos: Dados foram coletados a partir de questões sobre o material incorporado, sua concentração, propósito de incorporação, análises e conclusões obtidas. As bases de dados Cochrane Library, LILLACS, ScienceDirect e PubMed foram pesquisadas com os termos “SELANTE”, “ANTIMCROBIAL” e “ANTIBACTERIAL”. Os artigos foram selecionados em duas etapas. Critérios de inclusão foram aplicados pela avaliação de títulos e resumos e critérios de exclusão, pela completa leitura desses artigos. A ferramenta adaptada do Joanna Briggs Institute foi usada para analisar o risco de viés. Resultados: Dada a heterogeneidade dos dados encontrados, foi impossível realizar uma meta-análise. Obtivemos 1389 referências, das quais 11 foram incluídas nessa revisão. A análise dos artigos mostrou que selantes modificados podem apresentar atividade antimicrobiana e alteração de suas outras propriedades. Conclusão: Selantes alterados sobre fossas e fissuras mostram atividade antimicrobiana e propriedades físico-químicas e mecânicas alteradas.

Objective: To develop a material for denture relining and assess the microbiological and mechanical properties. The proposed liner was obtained through the incorporation of nanostructured silver vanadate (AgVO3) at 0, 1, 2.5, 5, and 10% polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA) containing plasticizer. Methods: Antimicrobial efficacy was evaluated by the Kirby Bauer agar method against Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans and Staphyloccocus aureus (n = 5); and mechanical properties were also assessed through roughness, such as Shore A hardness and tensile test. The results were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey’s Multiple Comparison test (α = 0.05). Results: The material with AgVO3 at concentrations of 1% and 2.5% showed antimicrobial activity for E. faecalis, and 5% and 10% groups were effective for E. faecalis, P. aeruginosa and C. albicans. In the 5% group, hardness remained unchanged (p < 0.001). None of the tested concentrations significantly changed the roughness and the tensile strength (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Obtaining the material with antimicrobial potential promoted efficacy against E. faecalis, P. aeruginosa and C. albicans, kept the roughness property unchanged, did not change the adhesion property of the material to polymethyl methacrylate, and it maintained the hardness values compatible with resilient denture liners. Objetivo: Desenvolver um material para refinação de próteses e avaliar suas propriedades microbiológicas e mecânicas. O revestimento proposto foi obtido por meio da incorporação de vanadato de prata nanoestruturado (AgVO3) em 0, 1, 2,5, 5 e 10% de polimetilmetacrilato de metila (PEMA) contendo plastificante. Métodos: A eficácia antimicrobiana foi avaliada pelo método de Kirby-Bauer contra Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans e Staphyloccocus aureus (n = 5); e propriedades mecânicas como rugosidade também foram avaliadas por meio do teste de dureza Shore A e teste de tração. Os resultados foram analisados por ANOVA e teste de Tukey (α = 0,05). Resultados: O material com AgVO3 nas concentrações de 1% e 2,5% apresentou atividade antimicrobiana para E. faecalis, e 5% e 10% foram eficazes para E. faecalis, P. aeruginosa e C. albicans. No grupo de 5%, a dureza permaneceu inalterada (p < 0,001). Nenhuma das concentrações testadas alterou significativamente a rugosidade e a resistência à tração (P > 0,05). Conclusão: A obtenção do material com potencial antimicrobiano promoveu eficácia contra E. faecalis, P. aeruginosa e C. albicans, manteve a propriedade de rugosidade inalterada, não mudou a propriedade de adesão do material ao polimetilmetacrilato e manteve os valores de dureza compatível com revestimentos de reembasadores de dentadura resilientes.

The practice of dentistry subjects professionals to risk factors that may lead to the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) if the appropriate prevention measures are not applied. Objective: to evaluate the incidence of WRMDs in professors of the dental clinic of the School of Dentistry of Universidade Vale do Rio Verde – Unincor of the Três Corações campus. Materials and method: 35 professors from the Dentistry Clinic of UninCor answered a questionnaire about WRMDs related to the teaching profession of dentists. Results: the mean workload found among participants was 9.87 hours per day and 48.4 hours per week. Only 2 participants were not aware of WRMDs. Most participants had one or more symptoms related to WRMDs, with 18 presenting them at the end of the day and 2 at the beginning of the day. Only four professionals perform exercises for prevention, although 17 are aware of the existence of such exercises. The most frequent symptom found in the sample was muscle tension or pain. Conclusion: the high presence of WRMDs symptoms in dental surgeons is related to lifestyle and lack of prevention in the daily life of these professionals. A prática da odontologia submete o profissional a fatores de risco que, quando não aplicadas formas de prevenção, levam ao desenvolvimento de lesões de distúrbios osteomusculares relacionados ao trabalho (DORT). Objetivo: o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a incidência de DORT em professores da clínica odontológica da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Vale do Rio Verde (UninCor) do campus de Três Corações (MG). Materiais e métodos: 35 docentes odontólogos da clínica de odontologia da UninCor responderam a um questionário sobre DORT relacionados à profissão docente de cirurgiões-dentistas. Resultados: a média de trabalho entre os participantes seria de 9,87 horas por dia e 48,4 horas por semana. Dos indivíduos participantes, apenas dois não tinham conhecimento de DORT, A maioria dos participantes apresentaram um ou mais sintomas relacionados a DORT, sendo que dois apresentavam no início do dia e 18 ao final. Apenas quatro dos profissionais realizam exercícios para prevenção, apesar de 17 terem conhecimento da existência deles. O sintoma mais frequente na amostra foi tensão ou dor muscular. Conclusões: conclui-se que a elevada presença de sintomas de DORT em cirurgiões-dentistas está relacionada ao estilo de vida e à ausência de formas de prevenção na rotina desses profissionais.

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o pH de agentes clareadores a base de carbamida a 10% e 16% disponíveis comercia/mente Whiteness Standard (FGM), Review (SSWhite) e Whiteness Perfect (FGM) e manipulados em farmácia de manipulação. A análise do pH foi conduzida utilizando um pHmetro Micronal B474, calibrado em 4,00 e 7,00 com solução tampão ácido cítrico /hidrogênio fosfato de sódio, empregando-se solução KC/ 3 moi L- Três gramas de cada amostra foram depositadas em tubo de ensaio recobrindo todo bulbo do eletrodo. O processo foi repetido 8 vezes para cada agente clareado,: O eletrodo era lavado entre cada amostra usando água corrente e ácido acético a 4% para remoção completa do agente clareado,: O eletrodo foi lavado com água destilada, seco com papel absorvente e a calibração conferida. Aguardava-se 3 minutos para cada leitura, em temperatura ambiente de 24± 1°C. O pH dos produtos clareadores variou de 4,060 (agente manipulado 10%) a 6,212 (Whiteness Standard 10%), Para os agentes clareadores comerciais a 10 e 16%, o pH variou de 6,079 a 6,212 e de 5,774 a 6,040, respectivamente e para os agentes clareadores manipulados a 10 e 16%, de 4,060 e 5,006, respectivamente, ANOVA de dois fatores e teste de Tukey (pc0,05) mostraram haver diferença significativa entre os produtos e as diferentes concentrações. Conclui-se que nenhum dos agentes clareadores avaliados apresentou pH neutro; os menores pHs foram encontrados para os agentes clareadores manipulados; os agentes clareadores com concentração de 10% de peróxido de carbamida apresentaram pH mais alto do que o mesmo produto na concentração de 16%.Descritores: Concentração de Íons de Hidrogênio; Peróxido de carbamida, Agente Clareador
