Major disruptions to traditional academic learning have occurred since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, as most higher education institutions have shifted to online or hybrid course delivery. This virtual shift has significant implications for service-learning. In this study, we explored the impact of virtual service-learning on public relations instructors and community partners. Interview respondents described challenges to virtual service-learning related to the pandemic but also noted unanticipated benefits, such as creativity and resilience. In addition, community partners and public relations instructors recommended a heightened focus on communication, flexibility, and adaptability to ensure successful virtual service-learning experiences for students and organizations.

The rise of fake news is an increasing issue for cancer patients. Specifically, the use of cannabis as a cure for cancer is the most shared social media content regarding alternative cancer treatments (Shi, Siyu, Arthur R. Brant, Aaron Sabolch & Erqi Pollom. 2019. To better understand the relationship between fake news, perceived credibility, social sharing, and belief in health misinformation, we conducted an online experiment in the United States to explore how people react to fake cancer news on Facebook.

Hattiesburg, Mississippi experienced two tornados within a four-year span (2013–2017). Community members who participated in response and recovery to both disasters were interviewed to understand how coordination changed between the two events. The purposive sample included representatives from a variety of organizational types, sizes, and missions. Four findings emerged detailing how organizations used collaborative management networks to respond to the disaster. Respondents indicated the importance of coordination, communication facilitation, identification, and experience. Lessons learned in 2013 did not have to be learned in 2017 when resultant network coordination and effective responses were retained by actors and made a part of their routine responses to crises.
