Although the literature advocates that the state plays a significant role in affecting firms' behaviour in emerging economies, whether state participation promotes or impedes firms' innovation decisions requires further scholarly attention. In this study, we develop a framework in which we examine how and under what conditions state participation affects firms' green innovation. Results from publicly listed firms in China show an inverted U‐shaped relationship between state participation and green innovation, so that state participation in the form of minority ownership is most effective for firms seeking to conduct green innovation. This curvilinear relationship is negatively moderated by firm age and firm size, such that the inverted U‐shape flattens when a firm is older and larger. The relationship is positively moderated by subnational institutional development such that the inverted U‐shape steepens when institutional development is higher. These findings provide useful implications for resource dependence theory in explaining whether state participation serves as a facilitator of or a burden on firms' green innovation. All industries depend on natural capital assets and ecosystem services, either directly, through their supply chains, or through their investments. Companies are therefore challenged to reorient their production systems and turn the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity into an opportunity for sustainable economic development. In this paper, we analyze the interest of institutional investors in these corporate policies through the role they play in the disclosure that companies make about them. For a balanced data panel of 8,320 firm‐year observations from 832 global companies operating in different sectors of activity over the period 2011–2020, the results obtained indicate that institutional investors, especially those with investment a long‐term investment horizon, are interested in biodiversity commitments and exercise their demand for information on these initiatives through their representatives on the board of directors. Furthermore, we show that companies are rewarded for disclosing relevant information on business policies, biodiversity management, and the valuation of ecosystem services in the value chain. Knowledge of the initiatives that companies are promoting to curb climate change and the impacts resulting from these activities require the disclosure of relevant information that can be used by stakeholders in their decision‐making processes. The objective of this work is to complement previous studies by analysing the effect and type of relationship that exists between internal and market corporate governance mechanisms. We theoretically argue that business transparency related to climate change is explained both by climate governance and by the coverage of the company by financial analysts and that there may be both a complementary and substitutive relationship between the two mechanisms. The results obtained on a global climate governance score show the existence of a substitutive relationship, but the individualised consideration of the components of this score suggests a potential divergent relationship. Assessing the role of diversity in corporate governance has attracted growing interest. In addition, significant relationships are expected between diversity dimensions and firm performance. This research aims to analyze the relationships between female presence in corporate board-firm financial performance and the extent to which such influence is moderated by family ownership. The study's sample, based on the listed firms on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), represents the nonfinancial sector from 2008 to 2019 with 2087 firm-year observations. Fixed-effect regression analysis was applied to examine the proposed hypothesis. The study's findings indicate that the presence of women in corporate governance is positively associated with firm financial performance. Simultaneously, the mentioned relationship is less pronounced when family ownership is a moderator. The empirical findings of the study support the argument that the presence of women in corporate boards is positively associated with financial performance and supports the reforms made by codes of corporate governance (CCG) that make the presence of female directors' mandatory on the corporate boards. Additionally, the study findings partially confirm that a higher proportion of women on the board increases firm performance. This study offers insights for policymakers to implement legislation for a diverse gender placement in the board of directors and exploit the potential benefits of the gender-balanced board, which generally improves firm performance. This study examines depressive symptoms faced by non-native international medical students studying in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. The targeted population for this cross-sectional study included nonnative medical students studying in Chinese universities. This study used convenience sampling. An online, self-administered questionnaire was distributed to international medical students studying in Chinese universities from February 2020 to June 2021. The questionnaire collected demographic data, information regarding struggles faced, and used the CES-D-10 Likert scale to assess both the challenges and depression symptoms, respectively. By analyzing the 1,207 students' responses, the study found that students with poor Chinese language were two times more likely to suffer from depressive symptoms (OR = 2.67; value of p 0.00). Moreover, female students were found more prone (76.35%) than their male counterparts (44.96%). The study found that food adaptability, health issues, accommodation issues, and financial issues were related factors contributing to depressive symptoms among non-native international medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study tried to highlight the factors that resulted in depressive symptoms among non-native international medical students, and the findings may help diplomatic representatives take necessary actions to help their citizens during this difficult time.
