The current study attempts to address the relationship between material waste and change orders in residential building projects implemented in the West Bank in Palestine. The main objectives include: (1) identify the main factors affecting change orders in residential projects, (2) identify the main factors affecting martial waste eon construction sites, (3) address the relationship between change orders and construction material waste, (4) develop prediction model that shows the impact of change orders on material waste. To achieve this, two methods are used: (1) questionnaire survey is conducted to identify the main factors affecting change orders and the major factors of material waste on construction sites. Fourteen (14) factors believed to affect change orders and 15 factors that might affect material waste are investigated in this study. (2) Case study is conducted to address the impact of change orders on material waste. Data collected from 40 residential building projects implemented in the West Bank in Palestine. Regression analysis is used to establish the predictive model that relates the change orders and material waste. Results indicate that the top five factors affecting change orders include: change of project scope by owner, shortage in equipment and materials, change in materials, design mistakes, and change of plans by owner. It also shows that the top five factors affecting material waste are: rework, lack of labors skills, design errors, purchasing materials not complying with specifications, and frequent design changes. The results revealed a strong relationship between number of change orders and construction material waste on site. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Currently, overweight and obesity have become public health problems worldwide, since they are conditions that cause the population to develop other diseases such as Diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension. This research was carried out with the purpose of identifying the relationship between obesity and overweight, with arterial hypertension and demonstrating the degree of correlation between both variables, as well as its intensity. Simple linear regression analysis was performed to confirm this relationship and predict the behavior of the dependent variable. These results allowed us to propose strategies to prevent chronic diseases in employees. Materials and methods: A descriptive observational study with a correlational scope was carried out at the Universidad Salvadoreña Alberto Masferrer. The population consisted of 240 employees; the sample was made up of 146, calculated in Open Epi at a 95% confidence interval. The participants were selected by applying non-probabilistic sampling by quotas. A questionnaire, taking anthropometric measurements and taking blood pressure were used as a data collection instrument. For data analysis, descriptive statistics were used such as frequencies, percentages, mode and arithmetic mean, normality tests and inferential statistics, obtaining that, for Spearman’s correlation, the value of R=0.063 with p=0.780 > 0.05, therefore, there is a positive correlation between the variables of overweight, obesity and arterial hypertension. In this study, we address the optimization of crucial elements in the production process of cream ice cream, a food product subject to strict regulations regarding hygiene and sweetening. This product is derived from an emulsion of fats and proteins and may include other ingredients and additives permitted under the Colombian Technical Standard NTC 1239. Instead of employing traditional factorial experiments, we utilize a mixture experiments-based approach with the primary objective of finding the formulation that maximizes the overall desirability of the final product. The process begins with the standardization of variables and the ice cream production process, based on two initial formulations. Through a mixture design, ten possible formulations are generated, and a multiple linear regression analysis is applied, considering factors of study such as cream, whole milk powder, and condensed milk in relation to key response variables like overrun, yield, soluble solids, and costs. The Scheffé equation, obtained through the method of least squares, describes the relationship between these variables. The analysis is completed with an ANOVA to detect significant differences among the formulations. Formulation F6 is identified as the most optimal, with an overall desirability of 22.45%, meeting the proposed constraints and emerging as the preferred choice for the production of cream ice cream that balances product quality and economic efficiency in the food industry. Stapfochloa berroi (Arechav.) P.M.

DIAMETER , *STANDARD deviations , *FIR , *FOREST management , *ALLOMETRIC equations , *FOREST surveys , *DEAD trees - Abstract
Forest inventory is the primary method for collecting and recording information regarding the volumetric quantification and yield of trees. However, this is difficult when the individual has been cut and only the stump remains, in which case inventory is achieved through regression techniques. The objective of this work was to adjust allometric equations for the estimation of normal diameter (dn), total height (at) and volume (v) using the stump diameter (dt) for Abies religiosa in different regions of Mexico. A total of 2,599 data points from 20 forest management units were used to analyze the variables and their respective predictions through eight allometric equations, which were evaluated with different statistical criteria. The adjusted coefficient of determination (R2 adj) explained 91 % of the normal diameter, together with the root mean square error (RMSE) of less than 4.75 cm with respect to the allometric equation (3). Another of the best options to estimate the total height is the Schumacher exponential (4) and the allometric (6) with values of R2 adj of approximately 50 %, accompanied by RMSE less than 5.03 m. However, for the volume of the forest, Schumacher's equation was considered pertinent since it has a RMSE ranging from 0.00001 to 0.0026 m3 with R2 adj that explains more than 74 % of the variation of the data observed in each UMAFOR. These regressions may be useful for the restoration of trees after an unplanned or unexpected felling event, as the results are statistically reliable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ELECTRIC power consumption , *ENERGY consumption forecasting , *DATA science , *SCIENTIFIC computing , *MACHINE learning , *TOPSIS method - Abstract
There is a wide variety of techniques and models for forecasting electrical energy consumption, depending on both the type of user, the forecast horizon, and the resolution of the available data. Likewise, there are different metrics to evaluate the performance of these models. So, in this research an integrated multi-criteria methodology is proposed to select the best forecast model for residential electricity consumption, using the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) to establish the weights of relative importance of the decision criteria, and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to make the selection of the optimal model. The methodology is in turn framed within a data science process, through which the data is extracted, processed, and analyzed, prior to the application of the machine learning algorithms to obtain the forecast models, which will correspond to decision alternatives. The performance metrics in the evaluation phase of the models, and the performance metrics obtained from the forecast phase, are considered as the decision criteria. From the pairwise comparisons technique, it was obtained that the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of the prognosis phase was the criterion with the greatest weight of importance, followed by the coefficient of determination R2 and the MAPE of the evaluation phase. From the TOPSIS method, the Multiple Linear Regression model was selected as the optimal forecast model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is an essay to introduce regressive or decivilizing dystopia, following the theoretical coordinates proposed by Norbert Elias. It explores the narratives of works located in a future after a nuclear disaster and, where the modern civilizing order with the centralized State and the interdependent economy has collapsed, returning to pre-modern logics of a tribal type. To illustrate and explore the scope of this proposal, the Mad Max franchise, considered iconic for its aesthetics and its argumentative cores, is taken.

The risk management business evolves rapidly, so actuaries are faced with the need for new analysis methodologies. However, the use of incorrect methodologies for actuarial modeling can have serious implications for strategic decision making. This study aims to introduce the simplex regression model as a suitable methodology for actuarial modeling of data whose values belong to the unit interval. Using a risk management data set, the linear model with normal distribution and the proposed regression model were compared. The evaluation of the models presented concluded by the quality of the modeling through simplex regression, indicating the quality of this method as a new analysis tool for the actuarial context.

The surface of agricultural soils affected with salinity causes degradation and reduction of crop production, negatively impacting the economy of farmers. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of water quality and soil salinity on rice production in the sub-basin of the Yaguachi River, Ecuador. For this purpose, 99 soil samples were georeferenced and analysed over an area of 19 027 ha, as well as water samples representative of the area under study. Soil pH and electrical conductivity (EC) maps were produced and a regression analysis between EC and rice yield was performed on 34 producer plots. The predominant texture of the soils was found to be clayey, with an average pH of 6.73; The 38.4 % of the samples had an EC between 3.8 and 7.1 dS m-1. Rice yield gradually decreased as it was grown in soils with higher salinity and 26.81 % of the yield loss was found to be attributed to the increase in EC. The salinity of the irrigation water and other quality indicators such as the percentage of soluble sodium (Na+) and the sodium adsorption ratio (RAS) classified the water as severely restricted for use. However, given that crop yields did not show as drastic a reduction as expected, it can be said that the rice plant responds to the conditions of the canton of San Jacinto de Yaguachi as moderately tolerant to salinity.

- Abstract
The Argentine anchovy, Engraulis anchoita, plays a vital role as a key prey species for several marine predators in the north Patagonian marine ecosystem of the Atlantic Ocean. Reconstructing the length and weight of each consumed specimen is essential to provide a detailed description of the trophic ecology of top marine predators. Predictive linear regression equations were calculated for the Patagonian stock of Argentine anchovy to estimate parameters of length-weight relationships using measurements of whole individuals and diagnostic elements such as otoliths, head bones and pectoral fin bones. Among the diagnostic elements analyzed, the cleithrum and dentary exhibited the best fit. This study validates the use of head and pectoral girdle bones as reliable indicators for predicting the weight and length of Argentine anchovy across a wide size range, which corresponds to the target range of various predators. These relationships can contribute to the determination of body condition, estimation of consumed biomass, and calculation of energy density, providing valuable insights into the trophic ecology of predators in the southern Atlantic Ocean., La anchoíta, Engraulis anchoita, juega un papel vital como especie presa clave para varios depredadores marinos en el ecosistema marino patagónico norte del Océano Atlántico.

ELECTRIC power management , *MICROGRIDS , *ENERGY development , *DISTRIBUTED power generation , *BACK up systems , *RENEWABLE energy sources , *SOLAR radiation - Abstract
One of the priority objectives of microgrids is to achieve energy self-sufficiency, generally resorting to distributed generation sources and backup systems; however, they are usually connected to conventional electrical networks that ensure supply to the loads. Addressing this problem, this work presents a proposal (managing elements) to minimize the dependence of power from the external electrical system in the months of greatest demand and thus guarantee the supply of the other months. The proposed methodology compares two statistical techniques: central composition design with 20 simulated experimental replicas and regression with 28. In both cases, the monthly average purchased power is analyzed as a primary response and its standard deviation as a secondary. The study variables are seven photovoltaic arrays and the feed characteristics of the turbine-generator storage of the microgrid of the Center for Development of Renewable Energies (CEDER), belonging to the Center for Energy Research, Environmental and Technological (CIEMAT). The results, with high predictive quality supported by indexes of approach to the real values of solar radiation and the operation of the turbine-generator binomial, provide regions where CEDER has the possibility of increasing the capacities of solar systems and/or modifying the geometry of the mini-hydraulics supply according to your specific conditions. Increasing and modeling efficiency is a very important aspect related to public water and sewerage utilities. An important element of measuring the efficiency of water companies is the amount of profit obtained. In previous articles we have analyzed problems of technical efciency in Romanian water and sewerage operators, in this article we present a multiple linear regression on net profit, which is an expression of economic efficiency. Using the tools of econometrics, we have modeled which elements have an important effect on increases or decreases in the profit obtained. The equation was created on the basis of the annual financial statements of the Romanian water and sewerage operators for the period 2014-2018. With the help of multiple linear regression we can predict the level of profit growth if different elements of the regression increase. The results of the research can be useful to the management of water and sewerage operators, Inter-Community Development Associations, water and sewerage regulators, as well as to economists doing sectoral analyses related to water and sewerage

In this article the behavior over time of the Earth's magnetic field in the municipality of Fúquene, Colombia is determined. From the historical series of magnetic field measurements over the Earth's surface provided by the Fúquene geomagnetic observatory, which contains the historical record of 60 years of hourly measurements of the terrestrial magnetic field components, a regression analysis of the terrestrial magnetic field components as a function of time was performed. Two methods were used to remove outliers that complemented each other, the Z_score method and the Hampel filter. In the analized period since 1955 to 2015, the intensity of the terrestrial magnetic field has decreased by 14%, with a projected variation of more than 25% for the year 2055. The magnetic field intensity change rate 0.08675 [µT/year] was calculated and compared with the information reported by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) finding an excellent agreement. Besides, the ocurrence of geomagnetic storms in the data was determined, from the gradients of the horizontal component of the magnetic field during the main solar events that occurred in the study period. According to the historical behavior of the terrestrial magnetic field components, in the future we expect that the decreasing of Earth's magnetic Field continues, which would imply a higher threat to the effects of space weather in the country, such as the generation of GICs (Geomagnetically Induced Currents) in the Colombian electricity system. We can see that in many cases, the “New Argentinian Narrative” (NAN, or Nueva Narrativa Argentina in Spanish), has a particular way of utilizing the incorrectly dubbed “lesser” genres, such as science fiction. We believe that NAN “uses” this genre with specific characteristics. First, it is operated through a mechanism of regression, as past trauma colors tints imagined futures. Here we analyze future-building in four novels: El año del desierto by Pedro Mairal (2005); Plop by Rafael Pinedo (2004); Berazachussetts by Leandro Ávalos Blacha (2007); and Gongue by Marcelo Cohen (2012). In these novels, the future is regressive and constitutes a return to the past. The configuration of time also defines that of space, and a unique new chronotopes is are created: regressive deserts and rivers. These are two significant spaces in the collective national imagination, associated with the civilization-barbarism dichotomy that is a common thread in is a constant topic in Argentine literature as a whole. These works make use of elements from science fiction in order to consider their own present, which is the consequence of a traumatic past.

This study aims to identify variables with the highest impact on students' performance in the National Exam of High School (Enem), per municipality. The research adopted the educational sociology perspective and used spatial statistics to analyze the dynamics of territorial influence. We analyzed Enem 2018, measuring the degree of importance of each category of variables for the average and variance of students' grades in the exam - which is separated in an essay and an objective test - and used statistical modeling and geospatial analysis, such as linear and spatial regressions. The results indicate that, for the objective test, variables like percentage of students with scholarship, income, race, schooling, and education level of students' mothers are relevant to students' performance and dispersion of grades in each municipality. For the essay, variables were similar to the objective test but with less impact on the average and variance of the grades. This explicative factor increases when a spatial component is introduced in the model for the essay grades, indicating that there are other regional factors, besides socioeconomics, impacting the performance and dispersion per municipality. The results reinforce the sociological studies on education since the socioeconomic disparities reflected in the students' performance stand out, which are also pointed out by Bourdieu (1998, 2008, 2009) in his studies of the fundamentals of school productivity of inequalities. Studies with this integrated perspective are relevant to understand the influence of municipalities' location, evidencing specific gaps and, consequently, directing and influencing public actions to overcome inequalities. This paper considers a frequentist perspective to deal with the class of correlated binomial regression models (Pires & Diniz, 2012), thus providing a new approach to analyze correlated binary response variables. Model parameters are estimated by direct maximization of the log-likeliliood function. We also consider a diagnostic analysis under the correlated binomial regression model setup, which is performed considering residuals based on predictive values and deviance residuals (Cook & Weisberg, 1982) to check for model assumptions, and global influence measure based on case-deletion (Cook, 1977) to detect influential observations. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis is carried out to detect possible influential observations that could affect the inferential results. This is done using local influence metrics (Cook, 1986) with case-weight, response, and covariate perturbation schemes. A simulation study is conducted to assess the frequentist properties of model parameter estimates and check the performance of the considered diagnostic metrics under the correlated binomial regression model. A data set on high-cost claims made to a private health care provider in Brazil is analyzed to illustrate the proposed methodology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
