Quantitative studies of V2 in Medieval French have produced diverging results with respect to the rate of use of V2 and the informational value of the initial XP. These divergences are hypothesized to relate to the register of investigated texts. The hypothesis is verified by the systematic analysis of unambiguous V2 (with an expressed post-verbal subject) with respect to rates of use and informational value of XPs in three register-differentiated Anglo-Norman prose legal texts from the 1260–1300 period. On rates, unambiguous V2 is three times more frequent in the most formal, legal treatise text than it is in the less formal, court dialogues. On informational value, indications are provided that the XP tends to have a Focus value more often in more formal texts. Register thus impacts the behavior of unambiguous V2 configurations in Medieval French; using data less remote from the primary competence of speakers helps in approaching the effective curve of change. STUDY QUESTION What is the prospective risk of Type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Nordic women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared to controls? SUMMARY ANSWER A diagnosis of PCOS and BMI ≥30 kg/m2 is a high-risk phenotype for a prospective risk of T2D diagnosis across Nordic countries. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY The risk of T2D in women with PCOS is increased. The risk of T2D is related to BMI and the magnitude of risk in normal weight women with PCOS has been discussed. However, prospective data regarding risk of T2D in population-based cohorts of women with PCOS are limited. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This national register-based study included women with PCOS and age-matched controls. The main study outcome was T2D diagnosis occurring after PCOS diagnosis. T2D was defined according to ICD-10 diagnosis codes and/or filled medicine prescriptions of anti-diabetic medication excluding metformin. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS The study cohort included women originating from Denmark (PCOS Denmark, N = 27 016; controls, N = 133 994), Finland (PCOS Finland, N = 20 467; controls, N = 58 051), and Sweden (PCOS Sweden, N = 52 409; controls, N = 254 010). The median age at cohort entry was 28 years in PCOS Denmark, Finland, and Sweden with a median follow-up time (interquartile range) in women with PCOS of 8.5 (4.0–14.8), 9.8 (5.1–15.1), and 6.0 (2.0–10.0) years, respectively. Cox regression analyses were adjusted for BMI and length of education. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE The crude hazard ratio (HR, 95% CI) for T2D diagnosis in women with PCOS was 4.28 (3.98–4.60) in Denmark, 3.40 (3.11–3.74) in Finland, and 5.68 (5.20–6.21) in Sweden. In adjusted regression analyses, BMI ≥30 vs <25 kg/m2 was associated with a 7.6- to 11.3-fold risk of T2D. In a combined meta-analysis (PCOS, N = 99 892; controls, N = 446 055), the crude HR for T2D in PCOS was 4.64 (3.40–5.87) and, after adjustment for BMI and education level, the HR was 2.92 (2.32–3.51). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Inclusion of more severe cases of PCOS in the present study design could have lead to an overestimation of risk estimates in our exposed population. However, some women in the control group would have undiagnosed PCOS, which would lead to an underestimation of T2D risk in women with PCOS. BMI data were not available for all participants. The present study should be repeated in study cohorts with higher background risks of T2D, particularly in populations of other ethnicities. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The prospective risk for diagnosis of T2D is increased in women with PCOS, and the risk is aggravated in women with BMI ≥30 kg/m2. Data converters are necessary for the conversion process of analog and digital signals. Successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converters (ADC) can achieve high levels of accuracy while consuming relatively low amounts of power and operating at relatively high speeds. This paper describes a design of 8-bit 125 kS/s SAR ADC with a proposed high-speed comparator design based on dynamic latch architecture. The proposed design of the comparator enhances the performance compared to a conventional dynamic comparator by adding two parallel clocked input complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) transistors which reduce the parasitic resistance in the latch ground path and serve to minimize the latch delay time. The design of each sub-system for the ADC is explained thoroughly, which contains a sample and hold circuit, successive approximation register, charge redistribution types digital-to-analog converter, and the new proposed comparator. The proposed design is implemented using 180 nm CMOS technology with a power supply of 1.2 V. The average inaccuracy in differential non-linearity (DNL) is +0.6/-0.8 LSB (least significant bit), and integral non-linearity (INL) is +0.4/-0.7 LSB. Negative concord (NC) is used in many English varieties but usually considered ungrammatical in ‘standard’ contemporary English, where negative polarity items (NPIs) are used. In this paper, we take a novel experimental approach to the use of NC versus NPI constructions, in relation to register, sets of speech repertoires linked to specific situational and functional parameters. We report on two rating experiments with American and British English participants using interlocutor relations as a formality manipulation. Results show that (i) across both samples, NC constructions were rated as less appropriate than NPI associates, and (ii) there was a register effect in the American English data in that NC was rated less appropriate in formal than informal contexts. Background and Hypothesis Recent research showed that young people who presented to hospital with self-harm in Finland had a significantly elevated risk of later psychosis. We investigated the prospective relationship between hospital presentation for self-harm and risk of psychosis in an unprecedentedly large national Swedish cohort. Study Design We used inpatient and outpatient healthcare registers to identify all individuals born between 1981 and 1993 who were alive and living in Sweden on their 12th birthday and who presented to hospital one or more times with self-harm. We compared them with a matched cohort, followed up for up to 20 years, and compared the cumulative incidence of psychotic disorders. Furthermore, we examined whether the strength of the relationship between hospital presentation for self-harm and later psychosis changed over time by examining for cohort effects. Study Results In total, 28 908 (2.0%) individuals presented to hospital with self-harm without prior psychosis diagnosis during the follow-up. For individuals who presented to hospital with self-harm, the cumulative incidence of diagnosed psychosis was 20.7% at 20 years follow-up (hazard radio = 13.9, 95% CI 13.3–14.6, P -value <5 × 10−308). There was no evidence of a dilution of the effect over time: while the incidence of hospital self-harm presentation increased, this did not result in an attenuation over time of the strength of the relationship between hospital self-harm presentation and subsequent psychosis. Preserving cultural heritage through monitoring, registering, and analyzing damage in historical architectural structures presents significant financial and logistical burdens. Developed approaches for monitoring and registering 4D (4-dimensional)-scanned range and raster images of damaged objects were investigated in a case study of historical Baron Palace in Egypt. In the methodology, we first prepared and observed the damaged historical models. The damaged historical models were scanned using a laser scanner at a predetermined date and time. Simultaneously, digital images of the models were captured (by a calibrated digital camera) and stored on a researcher's tablet device. By observing and comparing the scanned models with the digital images, geometric defects and their extent are identified. Then, the observed data components were detected on the map. Then, damaged statue materials were investigated using system of energy dispersive (SEM; scanning electron microscope, Gemini Zeiss-Ultra 55) and XRF (X-ray fluorescence) spectroscopic analysis to identify the statue's marble elements, and the results indicate that SEM-EDX and XRF analyses accurately identify major and minor compositions of the damaged statue. Then, the damaged models were registered in two stages. In the registration stages, the corresponding points were determined automatically by detecting the closest points in the clouds and ICP (iterative closest point) algorithm in RiSCAN. The point clouds (of the Palace and damaged statues) gave very detailed resolutions and more realistic images in RiSCAN, but it is a costly program. Finally, the accuracies of the registration tasks were assessed; the standard deviations are within acceptable limits and tend to increase irregularly as the number of polydata observations used in the registration calculations increase. Tasting descriptors, which are common terms used to describe a food product, play a significant role in tasting discourse and particularly in tasting notes. Although they have been the subject of a number of studies from different perspectives, none of them describe and classify descriptors from their form, function and combination in tasting notes in English. In this paper, we examine a corpus of tasting notes with the aim of 1. determining the positioning of English descriptors in relation to the keywords designating the tasting process; 2. scoping the depth of description, as indicated by the number of descriptors; 3. identifying if the descriptors are specific to a given aspect of the food product or are generic enough to be used to describe different aspects of it.; and 4. categorizing frequent semantic associative processed among descriptors and keywords. Our results will be a valuable resource for professionals, technical writers and students’ tasters in English.

Aviation English (AE), a specialized register of English, prioritizes precision, brevity and clarity to maximize aviation safety. While there has been a growing focus within the linguistics community on AE training and assessment since the release of a set of standards and recommended practices, its linguistic properties remain comparatively underexplored. Drawing upon Biber's (1988) multi-dimensional (MD) analysis framework, the present study conducted a corpus-based comparative MD analysis to investigate the multi-dimensional linguistic profile of AE vs. casual conversational English (CE) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to extract and interpret the co-occurring linguistic features of routine AE and non-routine AE. The comparative MD analysis shows that AE exhibits more information condensation, less authorial stance and technicality, and fewer features of online information elaboration compared to CE. The EFA shows variations in the linguistic and textual composition of the two sub-registers of AE across two dimensions. Non-routine AE demonstrates a present-focused, viewpoint/intention-oriented approach, involving higher levels of integrative information flow compared to routine AE. Routine AE is characterized by a higher degree of information condensation and is marked by a planned, procedural, and intensive use of standard phraseology. Abstract Background The real-world tuberculosis (TB) surveillance data was generally incomplete due to underreporting and underdiagnosis. The inventory study aimed to assess and quantify the incompletion of surveillance systems in southwestern China. Methods The inventory study was conducted at randomly selected health facilities (HF) by multi-stage stratified cluster sampling. The participants were included in the period between August of 2020 in province-level and prefecture-level HF, and in the period between June to December of 2020 in other categories of HF respectively. The clinical committee confirmed medical records were matched to the National Notifiable Disease Reporting System (NNDRS) and the Tuberculosis Information Management System (TBIMS) to define the report and register status. The underreporting and under-register rates were evaluated based on the matched data, and factors associated with underreport and under-register were assessed by the 2-level logistic multilevel model (MLM). Results We enrolled 7,749 confirmed TB cases in the analysis. The province representative overall underreport rate to NNDRS was 1.6% (95% confidence interval, 95% CI, 1.3 − 1.9), and the overall under-register rate to TBIMS was 9.6% (95% CI, 8.9–10.3). The various underreport and under-register rates were displayed in different stratifications of background TB disease burden, HF level, HF category, and data source of the medical record in HF among prefectures of the province. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.57 for the underreporting null MLM, indicating the facility-level cluster effect contributes a great share of variation in total variance. In spite of decades of research developing a model of language and context, there is little consensus in systemic functional linguistics (SFL) about how context should be modelled and how language and context are related. In this paper, we review recent work in SFL which focuses on modelling register as a resource – reconceiving field as a resource for construing phenomena, tenor as a resource for negotiating social relations, and mode as a resource for composing texture. This work has a number of implications for SFL’s conception of realisation (as strata of abstraction), instantiation (as a cline of generalisation), and individuation (as a scale of belonging). For realisation it bears critically on the issue of whether or not to adopt a stratified model of context (as register and genre) and the relationship between extrinsic functionality (field, tenor, and mode) and intrinsic functionality (ideational, interpersonal, and textual metafunctions). For instantiation, it bears critically on our modelling of principles for coupling (co-selecting and arranging choices within and across languages and related modalities of communication) – for example mass, presence, and association. And for individuation, it bears critically on the perspectives of allocation (i.e. how access to meanings and their uptake is distributed across communities) and affiliation (i.e. how meanings are used to collaborate and struggle, within and between social groups). Our basic aim in this paper is to suggest a model for improving traction as far as SFL work on language in context is concerned, fully embracing a multimodal perspective on language and related modalities of communication as resources for meaning.

This protocol presents a comprehensive proposal for the establishment of the Saudi Cerebral Palsy Register (SCPR), a crucial project for investigating and addressing the prevalence, etiology, and management of cerebral palsy (CP) in Saudi Arabia. The SCPR will not only provide a robust database for ongoing research and analysis but will also serve as a platform for investigating the causes of CP, implementing preventative strategies, and improving the quality of care and outcomes for people with CP and their families in Saudi Arabia. Detailed case definitions, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and data collection protocols are discussed to ensure the integrity and comparability of the data. The plan also outlines strategic funding, institutional and government endorsement, sustainability considerations, potential challenges and proposed solutions, and expected outcomes and impact. These include creating research and educational opportunities, fostering regional and international collaborations, and significantly contributing to CP prevention strategies. Overcoming anticipated obstacles, such as stigma, institutional policies, and collaborations, and securing both necessary funding and endorsements are highlighted as critical for the success of the SCPR. The project is not only aligned with promote prevention of health risks, a target of Vision 2030 in Saudi Arabia, but is also expected to have a substantial impact on the health and quality of life of people with CP and their families in Saudi Arabia, serving as inspiration for similar efforts worldwide. Background: the number of infants and children who receive artificial nutrition at home has been steadily increasing over the last decades, as better outcomes for children with chronic conditions have been achieved. In order to evaluate the need of resources to implement the technique it is necessary to know how many patients benefit from home artificial nutrition. This information can be estimated from the register of patients, when available. Methods: in this paper the characteristics of all registers were reviewed, especially those devoted to pediatric patients. Results: only two pediatric registers are active in 2023: the Canadian register and the Spanish one. NADYA register from the Spanish Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (SENPE) and the recent REPAFI, form the Spanish Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. The most valuable register from the British Society, BANS, stopped providing information in 2018. Conclusion: despite the fact of acknowledging the importance of having gathered information on the prevalence and incidence of home artificial nutrition, to fit resources to necessities, the number of active registers is quite short. Aim: To describe long-term care (LTC) use in Finland and Sweden in 2020, by reporting residential entry and exit patterns including hospital admissions and mortality, compared with the 2018–2019 period and community-living individuals. Methods: From national registers in Finland and Sweden, all individuals 70+ were included. Using the Finnish and Swedish study populations in January 2018 as the standard population, we reported changes in sex- and age-standardized monthly rates of entry into and exit from LTC facilities, mortality and hospital admission among LTC residents and community-living individuals in 2020. Results: Around 850,000 Finns and 1.4 million Swedes 70+ were included. LTC use decreased in both countries from 2018 to 2020. In the first wave (March/April 2020), Finland experienced a decrease in LTC entry rates and an increase in LTC exit rates, both more marked than Sweden. This was largely due to short-term movements. Mortality rates peaked in April and December 2020 for LTC residents in Finland, while mortality peaked for both community-living individuals and LTC residents in Sweden. A decrease in hospital admissions from LTC facilities occurred in April 2020 and was less marked in Finland versus Sweden. Conclusions: During the first wave of the pandemic mortality was consistently higher in Sweden. We also found a larger decrease in LTC use and, among LTC residents, a smaller decrease in hospital admissions in Finland than in Sweden. While the phenomenon of tonogenesis is well represented in the literature, diachronic tone change in already-tonal languages has received less attention. This paper considers two types of tonal morphology used to mark the "potential" inflectional category on verbs in Coatec Zapotec (aka Di′zhke′). Some verbs are marked with upstep. Coatec upstepped tones are emergent tonal contrasts that are developing out of high register allotones which assimilated to a historical high tone on a now-deleted preceding syllable. Other verbs display patterns of tone ablaut such that a verb with underlying low or falling tone surfaces with high or rising in the potential. Both upstep and tone ablaut in Coatec can be traced to an earlier floating high tone that could dock onto different syllables according to a set of ranked constraints. Using a combination of internal and comparative reconstruction, details of the earlier tonal system are revealed. This is the first published treatment of Proto-Zapotec tone since Swadesh (1947) and the first paper to address tone in Proto-Zapotecan and Proto Core Zapotec. *ʔ is revealed to have been a consonant through the Core Zapotec period, suggesting that the complex systems of phonation contrasts found in some Central Zapotec languages are a recent development. Cases of tonal contrasts developing out of phonation contrasts are known from Southeast Asia, but Zapotec phonation contrasts arose out of interaction between the glottal consonant and pre-existing tonal contrasts. An exploration of the morphological environments conducive to upstep leads to new discoveries about Zapotecan derivational voice prefixes and reveals the origins of perfective allomorphy. The question of how to understand the relation between language and action lies at the heart of both philosophical pragmatics and linguistic anthropology. This same question, although framed in a very different way, also emerged as a basic concern for communist revolutionaries in Vietnam in the mid 1940s and, I contend, continues to exercise the imagination of party members and others up until the present day. Drawing inspiration from Asif Agha's definition of a (semiotic) register as a "cultural model of action," in this essay, I consider the ways in which Hồ Chí Minh along with other high‐ranking party members sought to reform Vietnamese through a project of register formation, and thereby to transform the language into an effective instrument of mass mobilization. I suggest that this project centrally involved reconceptualizing the relationship between language and action and was pursued by, on the one hand, identifying and proscribing ways of speaking in which the connection with action was seen to be broken such that speech amounted to "mere words" and, on the other, by promoting a way of speaking in which, as the frequently used Vietnamese expression has it, "speaking goes hand‐in‐hand with doing" (nói đi đôi với làm). Purpose: The primary aim of our study was to identify the absolute incidence and implant survival of multiply revised knee arthroplasties based on nationwide register data. The secondary aim was to determine the change in the absolute incidence and implant survival of multiply revised knee arthroplasties Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study of primary knee arthroplasties using several nationwide Danish registers. All primary knee arthroplasties performed in Denmark from 1998 to 2021 were identified. From these primary arthroplasties, revision procedures were identified. Kaplan–Meier plots were used in survival analysis to estimate the likelihood of implant survival. Results: 161,384 primary knee arthroplasties and their revisions performed between 1998 and 2021 were identified; of 13,786 (8.5%) revisions there were 10,638 1st revisions, 2,148 2nd revisions, 624 3rd revisions, 223 4th revisions, and 153 procedures that had been revised more than 4 times. The 10-year revision-free survival of primary arthroplasties was 92.3% (95% confidence interval [CI] 92.2–92.5). First-time revisions had a 10-year revision-free survival of 75.9% (CI 74.9–76.9). The 10-year survival of second- and third-time revisions was 65.1% (CI 62.6–67.6) and 57.8% (CI 53.4–62.5), respectively. The 10-year implant survival probabilities of primary knee arthroplasties were 91.4% in 1998–2009 and 93.3% in 2010–2021 (difference 2.2%). The 10-year implant survival probabilities of 1st revisions were 77% in 1998–2009 and 75% in 2010–2021 (difference –2.4%). Conclusion: We found that 0.3% of all primary knee arthroplasties resulted in 3 or more revisions. The implant survival decreased for each consecutive revision, with almost half of the 3rd revisions being re-revised within 10 years. The 10-survival of the primary implant was higher in 2010–2021, and the 10-year survival of the 1st revision was higher in 1998–2009.

Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) has garnered considerable interest in the field of language education in recent times; however, limited research has focused on the role of AI in the specific context of register knowledge learning during English language writing. This study aims to address this research gap by examining the impact of ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, on the acquisition of register knowledge across various writing tasks. The research design employed a one-case shot pre-experimental design, with 11 voluntary participants selected through convenience sampling. Preliminary results indicate that students found ChatGPT beneficial for acquiring formal register knowledge but perceived it as unnecessary for informal writing. Additionally, the effectiveness of ChatGPT in teaching neutral register was questioned by the participants. This research contributes to the existing literature by shedding new light on the effects of AI-generated chatbots in register learning during the writing process, offering insights into their potential as learning assistants. Further investigation is warranted to explore the broader implications and applications of AI in language learning contexts.

Abstract This protocol presents a comprehensive proposal for the establishment of the Saudi Cerebral Palsy Register (SCPR), a crucial project for investigating and addressing the prevalence, etiology, and management of cerebral palsy (CP) in Saudi Arabia. The SCPR will not only provide a robust database for ongoing research and analysis but will also serve as a platform for investigating the causes of CP, implementing preventative strategies, and improving the quality of care and outcomes for people with CP and their families in Saudi Arabia. Detailed case definitions, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and data collection protocols are discussed to ensure the integrity and comparability of the data. The plan also outlines strategic funding, institutional and government endorsement, sustainability considerations, potential challenges and proposed solutions, and expected outcomes and impact. These include creating research and educational opportunities, fostering regional and international collaborations, and significantly contributing to CP prevention strategies. Overcoming anticipated obstacles, such as stigma, institutional policies, and collaborations, and securing both necessary funding and endorsements are highlighted as critical for the success of the SCPR. The project is not only aligned with promote prevention of health risks, a target of Vision 2030 in Saudi Arabia, but is also expected to have a substantial impact on the health and quality of life of people with CP and their families in Saudi Arabia, serving as inspiration for similar efforts worldwide.

Background Real-world data on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) are scarce and few studies have analysed the generic HRQoL.Objectives To assess HRQoL using the generic EQ-5D instrument and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) instrument in PPP compared to plaque psoriasis.Methods Cross-sectional data from PsoReg, the Swedish National Registry for Systemic Treatment of Psoriasis (2006–2021), were examined. The study included 306 patients with PPP, out of which 22% had concomitant plaque psoriasis (n = 68), and 7041 patients with plaque psoriasis only. EQ-5D and DLQI were compared between patients with PPP and patients with plaque psoriasis, overall and stratified by sex. A subgroup analysis compared outcomes for patients with PPP vs. patients with severe plaque psoriasis (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index ≥10). Burn registers provide important data that can track injury trends and evaluate services. Burn registers are concentrated in high-income countries, but most burn injuries occur in low- and middle-income countries where surveillance data are limited. Injury surveillance guidance recommends utilisation of existing routinely collected data where data quality is adequate, but there is a lack of guidance on how to achieve this. Our aim was to develop a rigorous and reproducible method to establish an electronic burn register from existing routinely collected data that can be implemented in low resource settings. Data quality of handwritten routinely collected records (register books) from a tertiary government hospital burn unit in Mysore, India was assessed prior to digitisation. Process mapping was conducted for burn patient presentations. Register and casualty records were compared to assess the case ascertainment rate. Register books from February 2016 to February 2022 were scanned and anonymised. Scans were quality checked and stored securely. An online data entry form was developed. All data underwent double verification. Process mapping suggested data were reliable, and case ascertainment was 95%. 1930 presentations were recorded in the registers, representing 0.84% of hospital all-cause admissions. 388 pages were scanned with 4.4% requiring rescanning due to quality problems. Two-step verification estimated there to be errors remaining in 0.06% of fields following data entry. We have described, using the example of a newly established electronic register in India, methods to assess the suitability and reliability of existing routinely collected data for surveillance purposes, to digitise handwritten data, and to quantify error during the digitisation process. The methods are likely to be of particular interest to burn units in countries with no active national burns register. We strongly recommend mobilisation of resources for digitisation of existing high quality routinely collected data as an important step towards developing burn surveillance systems in low resource settings. • We detail how to use routinely collected data for a new electronic burn register. • Methods include how to assess data quality, digitise data, and complete verification. • Process mapping should be used to detail potential sources of selection bias. • Two-step verification yielded very low error rates (6 errors in 10,000 fields). • Data presented utilising these methods would adhere to STROBE and RECORD guidance. (1) Background: The true dislocation incidence following THA is difficult to ascertain in population-based cohorts. In this study, we explored the cumulative dislocation incidence (CDI), the relationship between the incidence of dislocation and revision surgery, patient- and surgery-related factors in patients dislocating once or multiple times, and differences between patients being revised for dislocation or not. (2) Methods: We designed an observational longitudinal cohort study linking registers. All patients with a full dataset who underwent an elective unilateral THA between 1999 and 2014 were included. The CDI and the time from the index THA to the first dislocation or to revision were estimated using the Kaplan–Meier (KM) method, giving cumulative dislocation and revision incidences at different time points. (3) Results: 136,810 patients undergoing elective unilateral THA were available for the analysis. The 30-day CDI was estimated at 0.9% (0.9–1.0). The revision rate for dislocation throughout the study period remained much lower. A total of 51.2% (CI 49.6–52.8) suffered a further dislocation within 1 year. Only 10.9% of the patients with a dislocation within the first year postoperatively underwent a revision for dislocation. (4) Discussion: The CDI after elective THA was expectedly considerably higher than the revision incidence. Further studies investigating differences between single and multiple dislocators and the criteria by which patients are offered revision surgery following dislocation are urgently needed. Background: Administrative health data, such as hospital admission data, are often used in research to identify children/young people with cerebral palsy (CP). Objectives: To compare sociodemographic, clinical details and mortality of children/young people identified as having CP in either a CP population registry or hospital admission data. Methods: We identified two cohorts of children/young people (birth years 2001–2010, age at study end or death 2 months to 19 years 6 months) with a diagnosis of CP from either (i) the New South Wales (NSW)/Australian Capital Territory (ACT) CP Register or (ii) NSW hospital admission data (2001–2020). Using record linkage, these data sources were linked to each other and NSW Death, Perinatal, and Disability datasets. We determined the sensitivity and positive predictive value (PPV) of CP diagnosis in hospital admission data compared with the NSW/ACT CP Register (gold standard). We then compared the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and mortality of the two cohorts available through record linkage using standardised mean difference (SMD). Results: There were 1598 children/young people with CP in the NSW/ACT CP Register and 732–2439 children/young people with CP in hospital admission data, depending on the case definition used. The sensitivity of hospital admission data for diagnosis of CP ranged from 0.40–0.74 and PPV 0.47–0.73. Compared with children/young people with CP identified in the NSW/ACT CP Register, a greater proportion of those identified in hospital admission data (one or more admissions with G80 case definition) were older, lived in major cities, had comorbidities including epilepsy, gastrostomy use, intellectual disability and autism, and died during the study period (SMD > 0.1). Conclusions: Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics differ between cohorts of children/young people with CP identified using a CP register or hospital admission data. Those identified in hospital admission data have higher rates of comorbidities and death, suggesting some may have progressive conditions and not CP. To investigate the association between chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases (CIRD) and drug use disorder (DUD). Individuals aged ≥ 30 years in 2009 that met the following conditions were included: residing in the Skåne region, Sweden, with at least one healthcare contact in person and no history of DUD (ICD-10 codes F11-F16, F18-F19) during 1998–2009 (N = 649,891). CIRD was defined as the presence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), or systemic lupus erythematosus. Treating CIRD as a time-varying exposure, we followed people from January 1, 2010 until a diagnosis of DUD, death, relocation outside the region, or December 31, 2019, whichever occurred first. We used flexible parametric survival models adjusted for attained age, sociodemographic characteristics, and coexisting conditions for data analysis. There were 64 (95% CI 62–66) and 104 (88–123) incident DUD per 100,000 person-years among those without and with CIRD, respectively. CIRD was associated with an increased risk of DUD in age-adjusted analysis (hazard ratio [HR] 1.77, 95% CI 1.49–2.09). Almost identical HR (1.71, 95% CI 1.45–2.03) was estimated after adjustment for sociodemographic characteristics, and it slightly attenuated when coexisting conditions were additionally accounted for (1.47, 95% CI 1.24–1.74). Fully adjusted HRs were 1.49 (1.21–1.85) for RA, 2.00 (1.38–2.90) for AS, and 1.58 (1.16–2.16) for PsA. More stringent definitions of CIRD didn't alter our findings. CIRD was associated with an increased risk of DUD independent of sociodemographic factors and coexisting conditions. Background. Neuropsychiatric symptoms in major neurocognitive disorders have been strongly associated with suicidality. Methods. The objectives were to explore suicide rates in degenerative neurocognitive disorders (DNDs), alcohol-related neurocognitive disorders (ARNDs), and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). Patients who received these diagnoses between 1998 and 2015 (N = 231,817) were identified from nationwide registers, and their mortality was followed up until December 31, 2018. We calculated incidences of suicides per 100,000 person-years, types of suicides, and suicide rates compared with the general population (standardized mortality ratio [SMR]). Results. During the follow-up, 0.3% (95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 0.2-0.5) of patients with DNDs, 1.1% (0.7-1.8) with ARNDs, and 1.0% (0.7-1.3) with TBIs committed suicide. Suicide mortality rate was higher in men (58.9, 51.3, to 67.4 per 100,000) than in women (9.8, 7.5, to 12.5 per 100,000). The highest suicide rate was in ARNDs (98.8, 65.1, to 143.8 per 100,000), followed by TBIs (82.0, 62.4, to 105.8 per 100,000), and DNDs (21.2, 18.3, to 24.5 per 100,000). The SMRs (95% CI) were 3.69 (2.53-5.38), 2.99 (2.31-3.86), and 1.31 (1.13-1.51), respectively, and no sex difference emerged. The most common cause of death was self-inflicted injury by hanging or drowning (12.4, 10.3, to 14.8 per 100,000). Conclusions. Suicide rates were higher in all three patient groups than the general population. Suicide risk remained elevated for more than 10 years after diagnosis. The suicide methods were mostly violent. Background: Despite encouraging developments after its initial founding in Indonesia more than seven decades ago, inequity in access and availability of neurosurgical services throughout the country continues to pose a challenge. We aimed to elaborate on the start-up of a previously inactive neurosurgical service in North Maluku, an archipelagic province in East Indonesia, and describe cases managed within the first two years of service. Methods: In the North Maluku Database in the Neurosurgery register, demographic and clinical information of neurosurgical patients admitted to Chasan Boesoirie General Hospital, Ternate, from January 2021 to December 2022, were analyzed. Surgically managed patients were rendered visually according to their decades of life and districts of events. Results: There were 998 new patients (mean age ± standard deviation [SD]: 34.7 ± 19.6 years, 60.3% male) managed and 216 neurosurgical procedures (mean age ± SD: 33 ± 20.4 years, 67.1% male) performed. The majority of patients operated were within the 1st decade of life (18.5%), presented to the emergency room (56.5%), covered by national health insurance (69.4%), from outside Ternate (62.5%), diagnosed with neurotrauma (40.7%), and discharged alive (80.1%). Ternate was the only district where all seven types of neurological diseases were encountered. No surgeries were performed for patients from Taliabu, the farthest district from Ternate. Conclusion: A large portion of neurosurgical patients in North Maluku were those young and at productive age who were transported from outside Ternate with acute neurological disease (particularly neurotrauma). When learning a second language, some connectives are more difficult to acquire and to master than others. While previous research has assessed different factors responsible for this difficulty by using offline tasks, little is known about the extent to which L2-readers are sensitive to different connectives while reading. In our study, we compared self-paced reading times of native and non-native speakers of French for sentences that were correctly or incorrectly marked with either the infrequent connective cependant ('however') or the more frequent mais ('but'). Results showed that incorrect uses only produced longer reading times when mais was used. Yet, in a sentence-evaluation-task using the same set of sentences, L2-speakers were able to discriminate incorrectly marked sentences with cependant from correctly marked ones. We conclude that a good theoretical understanding of connectives for L2 (Experiment 2) does not always warrant a quick activation of their meaning while reading (Experiment 1). Communicating scientific research to the public is as important as ever. Several studies have investigated the ways that science writers communicate personal feelings and assessments, otherwise known as stance, in their writing, reporting somewhat mixed results. In this study, I examine the grammatical stance marking of science news articles. I compare the ways that writers and the researchers that they quote uniquely contribute to the overall expression of stance in these articles. Results reveal that the researchers’ talk substantially contribute to the overall stance of science news articles compared to their writers, indicated by a greater use of modal verbs, stance verbs and adjectives controlling that complement clauses, and stance adverbials, including a greater use of ‘boosters’. This study suggests that researchers’ talk in science news articles co-participate in the newsworthiness of science and offer an alternative perspective on academic research uncommon in research writing.

Register refers to a form of language variation specific to a particular community or group. Different language varieties within a community can convey distinct meanings. This paper aims to identify the forms of registers used by pro players from the Onic e-sports team in the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and to explain their functions. The data found were 18 registers used by pro players to communicate in the team. The form of the register is classified into two: lingual units of word as many as 15 registers and lingual units of phrase consisting of 3 registers. From these registers there are three functions, namely; a) enhancing communication efficiency, b) boosting hype and atmosphere, and c) facilitating communication among players. Studying these registers is significant as it sheds light on the unique linguistic dynamics of gaming communities, contributing to a deeper understanding of language use in digital and collaborative environments.

One or more forms of advance directives are regulated in the majority of legal systems. However, people generally do not create advance directives. The main reason for this problem is that people do not have enough information about this legal institution, and it is too difficult or expensive to create one. Furthermore, it is also questionable if someone has an advance directive whether it will be able to achieve the aimed legal effect. Similarly, the enforcement of the advance directives could be problematic, especially if litigation is required to enforce these wills. The situation of advance directives is more or less the same in the majority of legal systems. Our aim is to show that these problems could be solved using the already existing, e.g. in Austria or Hungary, digital health databases and by introducing a non-litigation legal dispute framework.

Background Central register of data on exposure to carcinogenic or mutagenic chemical substances, their mixtures, agents or technological processes (CRCR) conducted by Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine (NIOM) enables monitoring of such agents occurrence in working environment in Poland. The NIOM conducts CRCR based on the provisions of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of 24 July 2012 on chemical substances, their mixtures, agents or technological processes with carcinogenic or mutagenic effects in the work environment. The work summarizes the information reported to CRCR in 2018–2021. Material and Methods The data were extracted from CRCR, to which it was transferred by sanitary inspections. The data were extracted from CRCR. Data in this register is gathered based on employers’ notifications to sanitary inspection. The study includes the number of reported agents (chemical substances and technological processes), the number of enterprises and the number of persons exposed to particular groups of agents (chemical substances, technological processes, ionizing radiation). Results The number of substances notified to the CRCR increases, from 382 reported substances in 2018 to 444 in 2021. Significant increase in the number of enterprises reporting technological processes (from 981 in 2018 to 5422 in 2021) and the number of exposed persons results from the law amendments extending the list of carcinogenic or mutagenic processes. Conclusions The CRCR is a unique database on the occurrence and exposure to occupational carcinogens and mutagens, in which data from over 20 years has been collected. The increase in the number of reports to the register was mainly influenced by legislative changes regarding carcinogenic or mutagenic agents. Due to amount and complexity of data, they can be used for analysis in projects and programs aimed at raising awareness and reducing risk of occupational exposure to carcinogens and also during legislative works in Poland and in the EU. This research uses the material object of the Friday sermon, namely the translation of the sermon register of the scholar Ash-Shaikh Dr. Abdul Muhsin Al-Qosim. Each language has specific characteristics or is different from other languages. This research aims to find out the register of the Friday sermon of Ash-Sheikh Dr. Abdul Muhsin Al-Qosim at the Nabawi Mosque. The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected using listening techniques and data transcription in processing the data; the data was processed using the analysis model, namely Miles & Huberman. The result of this study is the existence of language registers contained in three perspectives: religious terminology, code mix, and language function. These three aspects are register or language variation forms, with details of seven categories in religious terminology, code mix (words and phrases), and five types of language functions.
